ARUNDEL – Yen Nguyen 65 , a resident of Arundel, died December 4, 2003 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a short illness.
One of eleven siblings, Yen was born in Vietnam and immigrated to Maine in 1980.

Yen was employed for 20 years at Cryo Industries in Sanford.

Yen is survived by his wife, Phai Nguyen, of 43 years and his seven sons, Qui of Kennebunk, Chau of Arundel, Ngoc of Sanford, Dung of Oxford, Mass, Thanh of Seattle, Wash., Diep of Arundel and Hai of Kennebunk; three daughters, Thuy of Natick, Mass, Van of Arundel and Hoang of Arundel and 18 grandsons and granddaughters.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 PM Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, Dec. 8 at 1:00 PM at St. Martha Church Portland Road Kennebunk with Rev. Laurent LaPlante officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 1 Main Street Suite 300 Topsham, ME 04086-1246 in Mr. Nguyen’s memory.

William Phimister

William Phimister 92 of Moody, Maine died Monday, February 16 at York Hospital.

William was born February 3, 1912 in White Plains, New York a son of John and Elizabeth Masson Phimister.

William was a World War II Army Veteran. William devoted his career to law enforcement having been a police officer, Westchester county under sheriff, and a prison warden. He retired from law enforcement in New York State 32 years ago. William then settled in Moody, Maine 27 years ago where he and his family had vacationed for years.

William enjoyed golfing and gardening, both vegetable and especially flowers. He also belonged to the Solomon’s Masonic Lodge in New York.

William is survived by his dear wife, Ruth of 62 years; three daughters, Ruth Ann Phimister, Elizabeth Ellen Smith, and Evelyn Jean Phimister; and three grandchildren.

Should friends desire memorial donations may be made in William’s name to York Hospital, Attention: Friend Raising, 15 Hospital Drive, York, Maine 03909.

Private services will be held at a later date.

WILLIAM B. SCARBOROUGH, SR., 85, died ON JUNE 1, 2004 AT HUNTINGTON COMMOM, KENNEBUNK, ME., SURROUNDED BY HIS LOVING FAMILY.

HE HAD LIVED AT HUNTINGTON COMMON FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS WHERE HE WAS CARED FOR BY THE DEVOTED STAFF AT BRADFORD ON THE COMMON.

"BILL" WAS born ON NOV. 19, 1918 IN ENGLEWOOD, NJ, SON OF THE LATE WILLIAM B. SCARBOROUGH AND DOROTHY S. SCARBOROUGH.

HIS YOUTH IN ENGLEWOOD AND KENNEBUNKPORT WAS FILLED WITH MANY ADVENTURES AND WONDERFUL TIMES WITH HIS BOYHOOD FRIENDS, THE STORIES OF WHICH HE LOVED TO SHARE WITH HIS CHILDREN ANDGRANDCHILDREN.

HE GRADUATED FROM THE BROOKS SCHOOL IN NORTH ANDOVER MASS, THEN FROM WILLIAMS COLLEGE IN WILLIAMSTOWN , MASS, CLASS OF 1942.

HE INTERRUPTED HIS STUDIES AT WILLIAMS TO ENLIST IN THE UNITED STATES Army AIR FORCE. HE ROSE TO THE RANK OF CAPTAIN AS AN ENGINEERING OFFICER DEDICATED TO THE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF LONG RANGE BOMBERS. HE SERVED IN THE PACIFIC THEATRE PRIMARILY ON THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS FOR THE DURATION OF WWII.

ALTHOUGH HIS GRADUATION WAS DELAYED BY HIS WAR SERVICE HE WAS STILL CONSIDERED A MEMBER OF THE CLASS OF 1942 AND WAS ALWAYS AS ACTIVE AS HE COULD BE IN WILLIAMS ALUMNI ACTIVITIES WITH A NUMBER OF HIS DEAREST COLLEGE AND SPORTING FRIENDS.

HE STARTED HIS FAMILY IN WILLIAMSTOWN AFTER WAR II AND IN 1960 HE MOVED WIFE BETSEY AND 4 CHILDREN TO WEST SIMSBURY , CONNECTICUT. THERE HE WORKED IN SALES IN THE SCHOOL EQUIPMENT INDUSTRY THROUGHOUT THE 60S , 70S, AND INTO THE EARLY 80S.

BILL'S GREATEST PASSIONS IN LIFE WERE HIS LOVE OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND THE PLEASURE HE DERIVED FROM THE GREAT OUTDOORS. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY SO AS HE GREW UP AND LIVED A PART OF EACH YEAR OF HIS LIFE IN THE STATE OF MAINE WHERE AS A YOUNG MAN HE WAS VERY PROUD TO HAVE FOUGHT THE GREAT FIRE OF 1947, AND AS A FATHER INTRODUCED HIS CHILDREN TO ALL THE NATURAL WONDERS ON THE COAST OF MAINE.

AS A LIFELONG SPORTSMAN AND OUTDOORSMAN HE LOVED TO OCEAN FISH FOR MACKEREL , STRIPERS AND BLUES ( WHEN THEY CAME BACK ) AND HE TRAVELED THE WORLD WITH GREAT FRIENDS IN PURSUIT OF SALMON AND TROUT. HE SKIED WITH THE ORIGINAL NATIONAL SKI PATROL AS A YOUNG MAN, AND REVELED IN TEACHING ALL OF HIS CHILDREN TO SKI HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE SIMSBURY FISH AND GAME CLUB, THE SPORTSMANS' CLUB OF HARTFORD, AND A LIFELONG MEMBER OF THE KENNEBUNK RIVER CLUB WHERE HE SERVED AS BOTH COMMODORE AND DIRECTOR.

HE WAS A DEVOTED LIFELONG PARISHIONER OF ST. ANN'S CHURCH, KENNEBUNKPORT ME, WHERE HE SERVED ON THE VESTRY FOR MANY YEARS.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE OF 53 YEARS, BETSEY RIMMER SCARBOROUGH OF SIMSBURY CT AND KENNEBUNKPORT ME, HIS FOUR CHILDREN BILL SCARBOROUGH JR AND DAVID SCARBOROUGH, OF KENNEBUNKPORT ME,
DEEANN KRAHL OF SIMSBURY, CT AND KATIE BATESON OF CHESHIRE CT, TWO SONS-IN-LAW, FREDERIC KRAHL AND BOB BATESON, AND FIVE BELOVED GRANDCHILDREN, JONATHAN AND LIZA KRAHL, AND WHITNEY, BILLY AND ALEX BATESON.

HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY HIS SISTER, NANCY ANGIER OF PROVIDENCE, RI AND HIS BROTHER FREDERICK SCARBOROUGH OF WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS, AND MANY NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD ON JULY THE 28TH, 2004 , 3PM AT ST ANN'S CHURCH, KENNEBUNKPORT, MAINE.

THE BURIAL WILL BE AT THE CONVENIENCE OF THE FAMILY.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS MEMORIAL DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO ST. ANN'S CHURCH P.O. BOX 44 , KENNEBUNKPORT , ME 04046.

Wanda Lee Curtis, age 41 years, of North Berwick Road, Wells, Me. died Friday Dec 26 in York Hospital in York, Me. after a lengthy illness.
Wanda was born in Chelsea, Mass a daughter of Jon Calvin Curtis and Joan Emma Mae Johnson-Crow. She attended Schools in Chelsea, Mass. She was employed at Raytheon Company for several years in Electronics assembly.
Wanda enjoyed the out of doors especially camping, canoeing the Saco River with family and friends. She also was a musician and vocalist and for several years, she was the singing Bartender at the 5 O’clock Lounge in Salisbury, MA.

She is survived by her parents, Her Domestic Partner Lisa Patenaude of Wells, ME. a daughter Jordan A. Sullivan of Cape Neddick. Two brothers Jessie J. Johnson and Dale M. Crow both of Derry, NH. One grandchild, Shealyn J. Sullivan of Cape Neddick, ME.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 18, at 2 pm at the York/Ogunquit United Methodist Church on Route 1 in York, Maine. The Reverend Sharon Miesel will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St. Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086 in Wanda’s memory.

Walter Worster

North Berwick, Maine – Walter T. Worster 99yrs, a resident of Diamond Hill Road, North Berwick died Wednesday December 24, 2003 at his home after a long illness.
He was born in Berwick, Me on November 20, 1904 a son of Olin J and Minnie M. (Smith) Worster and graduated from Berwick High School the class of 1923.
He was employed by the Champlain’s Pine Company in Rochester, NH for over twenty years and he also employed by the Great Falls Bleacher Company of Somersworth, NH for 11 years retiring in 1968.
.
In late 1920’s, Walter played the drums at the KP Hall in Berwick until 1935. He also played with the Triumph Drum Corp of Berwick for several years when the town of Berwick bought the Triumph Fire Engine. The truck still participates in parades.
Walter loved the animals where he had a farm until his 80’s.
He was a member of the Berwick Methodist Church where he sang in the Choir Group for many years.

He was predeceased by his wife Grayce M. Austin Worster and his son George O. Worster and his 3 brothers and 6 sisters also predeceased him.

He is survived by two daughters Esther M. Morrow of Berwick and Gladys E. Petty of North Berwick and 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 10 to 11 AM Monday December 29, 2003 at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel 36 Rochester Street Berwick where a funeral will be held at 11 AM at the Chapel with the Reverend Peggy Dunn officiating. Interment will be in New Town cemetery in Rollinsford, NH in the spring.

Per the family request no flowers please.

Theodore Wallingford

Theodore Wallingford, 82 years, a resident of Berwick and Somersworth, NH. died Saturday, August 30, at the Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Berwick, Maine July 20, 1921 a son of Henry and Gertrude Goodwin Wallingford. He attended Berwick Schools and served as a Merchant Marine Seaman during World War 11. Following the war he was employed in Somersworth Shoe Shops for several years.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and a brother and a sister, Madeline Neault.

Graveside services will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick, Me.

T. Frank Pierce

Wells – T. Frank Pierce of Wells, ME passed away after a long illness on February 26, 2004 at Riverridge Rehabilitation Center.

Daddy Frank was born in Georgia, the son of John and Lillian Pierce. Frank was a World War II Veteran serving in the Navy as a 1st Class Gunners Mate.

Frank was a country music entertainer by night and a horse trainer / farrier by day, among many other interests including auctioneering and vending at the horse shows with his Equi-Roto brush which he invented and was very proud of.

Frank played guitar and sang in several country bands including “The Rhythm Kings” and the “Country Hot Shots” at the Voltigeur Snowshoe Club in Biddeford and the Firehouse Pub in Wells. One of his biggest thrills was performing with Red Sovine.

During 1989, Frank opened the Country Music Lounge in Old Orchard Beach with partner Joan Cole.

Pierce was awarded Pioneer Award by the Downeast Country Music Association in 1994.

Frank has three children, Thomas Frank Pierce, Jr. of Cheshire, MA, Laurie Ann Pierce of Converse, TX, and Michelle Lee Pierce of Lyman, ME.

Pierce also has two grandchildren, Johnathan Thomas Pierce and Briana Marie Pierce.

He is also survived by his sister, Louise Christmas of Chilhowie, VA.

Hazel M. Gagne

Farmington, NH

Hazel M. Gagne 78 years a resident of Main Street Farmington, NH died Saturday May 15, 2004 at the Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation Center in Rochester, NH after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Gagne was born in Dover, NH on November 24, 1925 a daughter of George and Annie M (Welch) Putman. She attended Dover Schools.

Hazel was a homemaker for most of her life.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred J. Gagne who died in 1977.

She is survived by her two sons Robert E. Gagne of Berwick, ME and Richard Gagne of Rochester, NH, Four daughters Carol Locke of Sanbornville, NH, Yvonne Owens of Somersworth, NH, Claire Rancourt of Sanbornville, NH, and Debbie Gagne of Rochester, NH., many grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery in Somersworth, NH.

Should friends desire memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster Street, Suite 98R, Portland, ME 04101 in Mrs. Gagne’s memory.

Ida Applebaum Rozeff 90 of Wells, peacefully passed away March 27, 2004 at the Renaissance in Biddeford, with her family by her side.

Ida was born on October 28, 1913 in Lynn, Massachusetts the daughter of Rose and Nathan Applebaum.

She owned and operated Tom Thumb Market in Wells and was a member of the Wells Grange.

She ran the Muffin Shop, a home bakery.

Her specialty was blueberry muffins.

She collected antiques and enjoyed antiquing.

Ida passionately discussed local and national politics and wrote letter to the editor.

She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Rozeff and three younger siblings, Sam Applebaum, Melvin Applebaum and Frances Nickerson.

She is survived by her three sons and daughter in-laws, Norman and Florence of Harlingen, TX; Robert and Gloria of Wells, ME; and Michael and Dorothy of Amherst, NY.

Ida enjoyed sharing her wisdom with her grandchildren.

She is survived by six grandchildren; Leslie Rozeff of Topsham, ME, Anita Rozeff of Lee, NH, David Rozeff of Harlingen, TX, Jonathan Rozeff of Wells, ME, Susan Rozeff of New York, NY and Paul Rozeff of Bar Harbor, ME as well as five great – grandchildren. Ida is also survived by three nephews, Norman Nickerson and family of Greenfield, NH, Arnold Applebaum and family of LaMivada, CA, and Richard Applebaum and family of Oakland, CA, and niece Marlene Goodman and family of Peabody, MA.

There will be no visiting hours or funeral service, a celebration of Ida’s life by her family and friends will take place at 12:00 pm on April 3, 2004 at her residence at 1850 Post Road in Wells.
