John Desjardins, Sr.
May 23, 2004
Berwick, ME

John H. Desjardins, 83 years, died Sunday May 23, 2004 at his residence on the Lower Crossing Road in Berwick surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the widower of Valeda Desjardins who died April 1, 2003.

John was born in Dover, NH March 25 1921 a son of Joseph Alexander and Mary Alice (Morin) Desjardins. He attended St. Charles School in Dover. During World War II he served in the US Army Air Corps in India, Burma, the air offensive in Japan and China. He received the Distinguished Unit Badge, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Mr. Desjardins was employed with American Radio in Dover, NH for over thirty-three years. He later worked for Moore Business Forms before retiring. He was a member of the Berwick American Legion and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose serving as its Secretary.

He is survived by two sons John H. Desjardins Jr. and his wife Bea of Sebastian, FL and Michael Desjardins and his wife Debbi of Berwick, three brothers Joseph Desjardins of Dover, Philip Desjardins of Freemont CA and Hector Desjardins of Dover, one sister Alice Brooks of Dover and two grandchildren, Michael and Melissa of Berwick. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church Berwick with Reverend Hilary Cameron officiating. Interment in St. Charles Cemetery, Dover.

Should Friends desire memorials may be made to the Wentworth Homecare and Hospice, 113 New Rochester Rd. Suite 4, Dover, NH in Mr. Desjardins memory.

Linda M. Desmarais (Eriksen) of Ogunquit, formerly of Andover, MA, and Needham, MA, May 26, 2004. Beloved wife of Richard R. Desmarais. Loving mother of Richard R. Desmarais Jr. of Houston, TX, David L. Desmarais and his wife Tina of Ogunquit and Lisa M. Desmarais of Burlington, VT. Sister of Karen G. Campanella of Needham, MA, and Steven E. Eriksen and his wife Sarah of Marshfield, MA.

Daughter of the late Gladys K. and Erik C. Eriksen. Also survived by many nieces & nephews. A celebration of Linda's life will be held at her home in Ogunquit beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5. In lieu of flowers her family requests that donations in loving memory of Linda be made to:

Wells – Richard A. “Dick” Denault, age 68 of Wells, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 5, 2004.
He was born on September 21, 1935 in Dover, N.H., the son of the late Leo A. and Irene Mailloux Denault.
He graduated from Dover, N.H. High School in the class of 1953.
Mr. Denault served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1975. He then went on to obtain a degree at Morris Business College in Business Management. He spent many years in retail, including 14 years at Reny’s and was currently employed at Hannaford in Wells.
In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling and especially walking on the beach.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone he met, and once you met him, you would not forget him.
He was a generous, caring man who loved his children and grandchildren.
His love of sports included being a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Yankees.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Loretta D. Denault of Wells; his four children, Lisa D. Denault of Portsmouth, NH, Michael R. Denault of Sarasota, FL, Julie E. Bossinger of Lake Worth, FL, and Eric T. Denault and his wife, Birdie of Thomaston, ME; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; sisters in law and brothers in law.
Visiting hours will be from 2 – 4p.m. Sunday, May 9, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, with a funeral service to follow at 4p.m. with Rev. Joseph Ford officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held on Monday, May 10, at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 343 Gorham Road, South Portland, ME 04106.

Robert Frank LeBarge

Sanford- Robert Frank LeBarge, 67 of Lebanon Street, Sanford, Maine died Wednesday, March 03, 2004 after a long illness at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.

Robert was born on July 26, 1936 in Alfred a son of Frank and Myrna Weeks LeBarge. After graduating from high school he became a stone mason. Robert was especially proud of the stonework that he did at the Franciscan Monastery in Kennebunk Lower Village.

Robert enjoyed fishing in his youth. He never lost his fascination with the ocean and he enjoyed reading sea novels.

Robert is survived by his wife Marjorie; daughters Amber Lebarge, Bonnie Callahan, and Gayle Morrissette; sons Daniel Morissette and Raymond Morrissette;
11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 5 from 6-8 pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Aletha Silvester

OBITUARY: Aletha M. Silvester, 62, went to be with the Lord on November 30, 2003. She died at her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous and inspirational battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born in Rehoboth, MA, daughter of Francis and Bessie Maker. Her family moved to West Boylston, MA and she graduated in the 2nd graduating class from West Boylston High School. She attended Bouve College (Tufts University) and graduated from Ithaca College of Ithaca, NY in Physical Therapy.

She lived life fully. She enjoyed Girl Scouting and especially camping. She was blessed with the Gift of Hospitality. She was an active tennis player and occasional skier. She had a passion for renovating historic homes and for interior decorating. Her work on the restoration of 800 South Greenway, a historic coral rock home located in Coral Gables, FL resulted in a special award presentation from the City of Coral Gables.

After relocating to Cape Porpoise due to her illness, she joined a new church plant sponsored by the Presbyterian Church of America, Christ the Redeemer Presbyterian Church of Portland, ME. She also attended for many years the Key Biscayne Presbyterian Church and Old Cutler Presbyterian Church. In addition, she was a member or the Guild of the Miami Museum of Science, PEO Chapter E of Kennebunk, ME and PEO Chapter R of Miami, FL.

After practicing Physical Therapy for several years in Massachusetts and New York, she married Larry Silvester, also of West Boylston. As a loving wife and fulltime mother, she entertained well, opened her heart and her home to all she knew. She hosted numerous Bible Study reach outs feeling her home was meant to be used to glorify God.

Surviving her are her husband and two daughters, Amy E. Schmidt, wife of David Schmidt of Ft. Worth, TX, and Julie M. Silvester of Orlando and NYC. She is also survived by her mother Betty Maker of Bradenton, FL, a brother George E. Maker of Burlington, Wisconsin, and 3 grandchildren Sarah, Clay and Meredith.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday December 6, 2003 at 2:00pm at the Methodist Church on the Cape, Langsford Rd., Cape Porpoise. A second Memorial Service will be held on January 17, 2004 at 2:00pm at the Key Biscayne Presbyterian Church on Key Biscayne, FL. A private family graveside service will take place.

She had a vision for a scholarship fund to be established for deserving young women to be able to have a Christian Summer Camp experience. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Christ the Redeemer Presbyterian Church, C/O Doug Warren, 33 Overset Rd., Portland, ME 04103

Sarantis Haralambidis
March 29, 2004
San Jose, CA

– Sarantis K. Haralambidis 76 years a resident of Bayview Terrace, Wells and late of San Jose, CA died unexpectedly Monday March 29th, 2004 in San Jose.
He was born in Athens, Greece, the son of Konstantine S. and Katherine (Georgiadou) Haralambidis.

Mr. Haralambidis came to the United States to escape from the attempted communist take over of Greece immediately after WWII.

He served in the United States Army from 1951 through 1956 and was a disabled veteran.

He was a member of the American Legion.

He became an American Citizen in 1966.

As a young man he lived in Los Angles where he worked in the design department of Catalina swim wear.

He also was accomplished in Ballroom dance.

He taught dance classes for the Arthur Murray dance studios in L.A., his favorite dance step was the cha cha.

Mr. Haralambidis was a car lover. He spent many hours polishing and caring for his beloved 1987 Chevrolet Caprice Classic cars vehicles.

Since his wife’s death, he had been living with his daughter in San Jose.
Together with his wife, Mary, Mr. Haralambidis owned and operated Kay Nina Sportswear in Old Orchard Beach and Wells for more than twenty-five years. His beautiful window displays were admired by locals and tourist alike.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Minoudis) Haralambidis who died in 1993 and his younger brother Evangelos K. Haralambidis in 1999.

Mr. Haralmabidis is survived by his two daughters Nina Haralambidis of San Jose and Katherine (Kiklis) Camire of Lyman, ME, his older brother Stanley K. Harris of Danville CA., two grandchildren Albert and Carrie-Marie Camrie and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Friday April 2, 2004 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk, Maine.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday April 3, 2004 at the St. Demetrios Greek Church Bradley Street RT. 5 Saco, ME.
Interment will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

Andrea Elaine Lambert

Wells - Andrea Lambert, 57, a resident of Hanover, Maryland died suddenly and unexpectedly on Nov. 13, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Portland Maine.

She was born in Wells on 8-29-1946, a Daughter of Florence Ethel Card of Wells and George Laurence Fenderson of Wells.

She graduated from Wells High School in 1964.

She was a Computer Specialist for Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service in Washington DC.

She was formerly a member of the Elmwood Grange in High Pine Maine.

She was a member of High Pine Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed her family, traveling, reading, collecting things, spending time with friends, helping others and taking long drives.

She was predeceased by her mother, Florence and her stepsister, Barbara.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Rev. George Lambert, four sons; George of Nashua NH, Stephen of Wells ME, Joel of Amesbury MA, and Timothy of Niceville FL; two daughters Susan of Hanover MD and Rachel of Niceville FL; her father George Laurence Fenderson of Wells, her sister Sherrill of Pikipsi NY, Ruth Brown of Waterboro ME, Audrey Brown of Waterboro, her stepsisters and her stepbrothers.

She is also survived by 8 Grandchildren Brandon, Terrence-Foster, Tracy, Mikey, Stephanie, Samantha, PJ, and Rebecca; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many, many friends.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Monday November 17 where services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, Me, the Reverend Gordon Fleming presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an Andrea Lambert Memorial Fund, c/o George Lambert, 131 DW HWY # 507, Nashua, NH 03060 or on the internet at www.andrealambertmemorial.com, where the most current information will be available.

Interment will be at Arlington National cemetery at a later date.

Earle C. Adams

Kennebunk – Earle Chetwood Adams, 96 yrs, a resident of Atria – Kennebunk, formerly of Storer St. in Kennebunk, died Sunday November 9, 2003 at Southern Maine Medical Center.

Earle was born in Westport, CT. on December 14, 1906.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha Wakeman Adams.

Earle graduated from Westport High School and from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY in 1928, with a degree in civil engineering.

He worked for the NY Telephone Co. for 44 years, during which time he resided in Hastings-On-Hudson, NY for 28 years.

He was a commissioned officer in the U. S. Navy and served several years during WW11, rising in status to the rank of Lt. Commander.

Before retiring from active service, he served for 20 years in the Naval Reserves. Earle was an active Cornell alumnus, attending every reunion through his 70th.

He was an area recruiter for the Admissions Office at Cornell and helped in the selection of scholarship recipients.

Earle was a member of the Tarrytown, NY Rotary Club with a perfect attendance record for 43 yrs.

Even though he maintained his allegiance as a member of the Tarrytown Club, he was an active participant in the Kennebunk Rotary Club since his retirement to Kennebunk in 1972.

He served on the Board of Trustees of the Kennebunk Free Library for many years and was a great promoter of the annual Christmas fundraiser.

He also served on the Republican Town Committee and was an active member of Christ Church in Kennebunk.

He took great pride in the grounds of his home, where he loved to garden.

He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Earle is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bethana Rees Adams, by his daughter, Bethana “Robin” Youngdahl of Vernon, CT, by his daughter Mary-Jane and son-in-law Brian Rivest of Dryden, NY and by four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Christ Church in Kennebunk.

The family will receive friends in the church hall immediately following the service.

Joseph Archer Knight

Joseph Archer Knight, age 88 years, a resident of Sinnott Road Arundel died Wed, Nov. 19th at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was the husband of Beverly Hall Knight.

Mr. Knight was born in Arundel, Me September 24, 1915 a son of Archer B. and Margie Morrill Knight.

He attended Arundel Schools and Graduated from Kennebunkport High School.

He was a Veteran of World War 11 serving in the U.S. Army and received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War 11 Victory Medal along with his Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a Machinist Engineer for over thirty three years.

He enjoyed Hunting, Fishing, Gardening, Tending his wood lot and being a Rock hound in collecting stones.

He was a 50 year member of Arundel Lodge of Masons and served as Master of the Lodge in 1954.

A 50 year member of Murray Chapter, Maine Council and St. Amand Commandery, A member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Portland and a member of the Maine Consistory 32 o Valley of Portland.

He is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Beverly Hall Knight of Arundel, a sister in law Mrs. Ruth Knight of Kennebunk, a cousin, Charlotte Potter of New Hampshire.

Friends may Call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM A Masonic service will be held at 7:30pm.

Funeral service 11 Am Saturday the Chapel. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Should friends desire memorials may be made to the Maine Heart Fund, 343 Gorham Road, South Portland, Maine 04106 in Mr. Knights memory.

Dover, NH – Mildred T. York 92 yrs, a resident of the Dover Rehab. & Living Center, formerly of Somersworth, died Sunday November 23, 2003, after several years of failing health.

Mrs. York was born in Stafford CT May 13, 1911 a daughter of Emil and Minnie (Bondville) Turschman.

She moved from Stafford at an early age and lived most of her life in Somersworth, NH.

After graduating from Somersworth High School, she was employed as a very talented stitcher at a local shoe company.

For many years she enjoyed spending summers with her husband at Terrace Pine in Ossipee, NH.

She and her husband both loved fishing and playing bingo.

She was predeceased by her husband Aubrey York.

Mrs. York is survived by her son Bruce and his wife Rose York of Rollinsford, NH and two daughters, Patricia Pilling and her husband Edward of Kittery, ME, and Mona Dionne and her husband Arthur of Michigan. She had 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Forest Glade Cemetery, Somersworth, NH.

Romeo J. Gouin

Wells- Romeo J. Gouin, 94, a resident of Chicks Crossing Road, Wells, died November 25, 2003 at St. Andre’s Health Care in Biddeford.

Romeo was born in Chicago Illinois on February 23, 1909 a son of Xavier and Eugenie (Goudreau) Gouin. He settled in Laconia, NH where he became a Master Plumber and built his own plumbing and heating business. After retiring he settled in Wells, Maine where he has resided for the last 30 years.

Romeo enjoyed gardening and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking. He is known for his birdhouses that many family and friends treasure.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Therese Gouin; two sons Francis Gouin of Deale, Maryland and Maurice Gouin of Meredith, NH; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, December 1 at 11:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laconia, NH with Father Adrien Longchamps presiding.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to: St. Andre Health Care Facility, 407 Pool Road, Biddeford, Maine 04005 in Romeo’s memory.
