Doris M. Levy

Doris Marie Levy 83 years a resident of Wells Street North Berwick, ME formerly of Millis, MA, Kennebunk and Wells, Me died Monday May 10, 2004 at her home after a long illness.
Doris was born in Somerville, MA on January 16, 1921, a daughter of Edward A. and Julia T. (Hegy) Plant. She graduated from Somerville High School and Salem State Teachers College in MA.
She was a school teacher for Millis Elementary School in Millis, MA for twenty-five years. After her retirement, she moved to Maine and became a homemaker for the rest of her life. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, needlepoint and dollhouses. She loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Robert Levy of North Berwick, one son Lawrence Levy of Millis, MA, two daughters Mary Mascis of North Berwick and Linda A. Hingston of Hyannis, MA, and 8 grandchildren.
Her services will be private.
Should friends desire may be made to the Maine Alzheimer’s Disease Association 163 Lancaster Street, Portland Maine 04101 in Mrs. Levy ‘s memory.

Dr. Albert Lewis Hunter

Kennebunk

Dr. Albert Lewis Hunter, 88, a resident of Huntington Common, formerly of Islesboro and Camden, died July 12 in Kennebunk.

He was born in Cumberland Mills on April 30, 1916, a son of Albert and Mary Lyle Bryden Hunter. He graduated from Westbrook High School, Colby College, and Hanneman Medical School in Philadelphia.

Dr. Hunter was a pathologist and worked at hospitals in Camden, Rockland, Damariscotta and Lewiston.

A daughter, Sarah Lewis Hunter, his sister, Barbara Peters, and brother, Freeman, preceded him in death. He was an avid sailor, gardener, and beloved grandfather and great-grandfather, “Poppy.”

He is survived by daughters, Lorie Wyman and husband, Alan, of Kennebunk; Lindley Silverman and husband, Jay, of Tucson, Arizona; and sons, John and wife, Patricia, of Winston-Salem, NC; and Eric and wife, Marjorie, of Fort Fairfield. He also leaves grandchildren, Kendall Carlson and husband, Stephen, of Wilmette, IL; Christopher Hunter and wife, Anna, of Chattanooga, TN; Catherine Hunter of San Francisco, CA; and Emily Wyman of Houston, TX; great-granddaughters, Sarah and Gracie Carlson; Katie and Molly Hunter; and a sister, Margery Charleston of Waterville.

There will be no visiting hours.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 18 at 2:00 at Grindle Point Lighthouse, Islesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alice L. Pendleton Library; P. O. Box 77; Islesboro, ME 04848.

Dr. Howard Lind

North Berwick

Dr. Howard Eric Lind, age 91 formerly of Wells, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at Varney Crossing Nursing Home.

He was born in Providence, R.I. on February 22, 1913, the son of Simon E. and Maria Nelson Lind.

He graduated Providence Latin High School in 1928 and graduated with a B.S. degree from Rhode Island College in 1931 and a B.S. Degree in 1933, also from Rhode Island College. Mr. Lind then earned his MPH from Northwestern University in 1935 and his PhD from MIT in 1937.

He served his country in U.S. Army from 1941-1945.

Dr. Lind served as Director of SIAS Research Laboratories in Brookline, MA from 1947 until 1976. He then served as Director of the State Laboratory for the Maine Department of Public Health from 1976 until 1985.

He was a musician and played the organ at the Wells Congregational Church for many years.

His wife, Anna Louise Lockwood predeceased him.

Surviving are three sons, Jeffrey of South Berwick, Robert of New York City and Douglas of San Anselmo, CA; a daughter, Diane Martin of Weymouth, MA; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004 at the Wells Congregational Church with Rev. Herb Henry officiating.

If desired, donations can be made in his memory to the Wells Congregational Church Music Fund, US Rt 1 South, Wells, ME 04090.

Edith V. Brown

West Kennebunk, Me

Edith V. Brown, age 90 years , a resident of High St. Biddeford formerly of West Kennebunk died Wednesday June 10 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

Miss. Brown was born in West Kennebunk, Jan. 21 1914 a daughter of Walter D. and Olive Paul Brown. She attended Kennebunk Schools. She was a Housekeeper for several families in the Kennebunk, Biddeford and Saco area. She attended Christ Church in Kennebunk. She loved animals, gardening and making Dolls.

Miss. Brown was predeceased by five brothers, Maurice, Wilfred O., Walter A., William and Ernest R. Brown and one sister Esther Brown.

She is survived by two brothers, Clarence Brown of Fredericksburg, Va. and H. Chester Brown of Lyman, Me, Three sisters, Betty Dyer, Regina Eaton and Evelyn Brown all of West Kennebunk. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk Tuesday June 15 from One to One Thirty O’Clock when a Funeral Service will be held. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, West Kennebunk.

Edythe L. Martin

Edythe L Martin 74 yrs, a resident of Meetinghouse Road, Wells formerly of Waltham, Mass died Monday May 31, 2004 at her home after a brief illness.

She was born in Waltham, MA on October 14, 1929 a daughter of George and Clara Clarkson Veno. She graduated from Waltham High School.

She worked at the Waltham Watch Factory for five years.

Edythe was married to Thomas Martin in 1949 and raised her children. Then she was employed by the Guarantee Trust Bank in Waltham as teller for several years.

She and her husband moved to Maine in 1975.

She enjoyed kitting, gardening and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas G. Martin Sr. who died in 2002 , her son Thomas G. Martin Jr., her brother George Veno, and her sisters Mildred Veno and Mary Perkins.

She is survived by her two sons William W. Martin and James S. Martin both of Waltham, MA , her daughter Paula E. Howley of Wells, Me, two sisters Polly Doherty of West Newton, MA and Marion Garrigan of Sudbury, MA, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday June 5th, 2004 at 11 AM at the Brasco and Sons Memorial Chapel, 773 Moody Street in Waltham, MA.

Elizabeth H. Wooldridge

Elizabeth H. 'Betty' (Howard) Wooldridge, age 80 of Ogunquit and formerly of Wollaston, Mass., died Thursday, June 3, 2004 after a lengthy battle with osteoporosis and lymphoma. She died peacefully at home in Ogunquit surrounded by her family looking out at the Marginal Way and the crashing of the ocean waves.

She was born on August 20, 1923, a daughter of Herbert and Olive Wood Howard.

Elizabeth was educated in the Quincy, Mass. School System and the Chandler School of Boston.

She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed the many aspects of motherhood and even more so as a special Nana. She had previously worked as a secretary at John Hancock Insurance, Northeastern University and Bethany Congregational Church in Quincy, Mass.

Mrs. Wooldridge did extensive volunteer work in Quincy, Mass. which included PSSB Social Welfare Agency and the Senior Housing Center at 1000 S. Artery.

She married Roy L. Wooldridge on December 14, 1951.

She and her husband retired to their “special place by the sea” in 1989. Upon their retirement she volunteered with Project Love at the Ogunquit Village School where she became lovingly known as Mrs. Woolie. She also became a volunteer for the York Hospital Gift Shop.

She will be sorely missed by her family.

Surviving are her husband of Ogunquit; loving mother of Ann E. (Wooldridge) Gillespie and Scott M. Gillespie of Marshfield, Mass., and Janice L. Wooldridge of Moody, ME; devoted Nana of Meredith A. and Samuel R. Gillespie of Marshfield, Mass. and Emilee H. Wooldridge of Moody, ME; loving sister of Richard A. Howard of Bluebell, PA and previously deceased brother Lawrence W. Howard of Lake Worth, FL.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at St. Peter’s By the Sea at Cape Neddick with Rev. David Holyrod officiating.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests gifts be given in her memory to York Hospital, Attn. Fund Raising, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909.

Ethel M. Young, 84 years a resident of Seaview Ave, died Sunday April 25, 2004, at the York Hospital in York, ME.

Mrs. Young was born in Kittery, ME. on November 26, 1919 a daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Dixon) Lovely.

She is survived by her husband Meredith, one son Robert Young of Moody ME . She has 9 brothers and sister: Lovona Gomes of Vancouver, WA, Barbara Martel of Sanford, ME, Joseph Lovely JR, of Northwood, N.H., Edward Lovely of Lebanon, ME, Mary Hathaway of Hooksett, N.H., Elizabeth Smith of Nottingham, N.H., Ellen BeLand of Manchester, N.H., Frank Lovely of Ausable Forks, N.Y., and Dorothy Smith of Nottingham, N.H. Mrs.Young is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Eric Young of Kennebunk, ME, Stephen Young of Wells, ME, Lisa Brosnan of Moody, ME, and Susan Larrabee of Scarborough, ME. and 7 great-grandchildren.

A family graveside service will be held Friday April 30, 2004 at 2:00pm in the First Parish cemetery in York, ME.

Eulah N. Pease

Kennebunk – Eulah Noble Pease, age 94 of Penny Lane, died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Southern Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Clarinda, Iowa on February 3, 1910, a daughter of Jack F. and Anna E. Choat Noble. She attended schools in Clarinda and Fayetteville, Arkansas as well as the University of Arkansas. While in school in Clarinda, she played piano and sang in her church choir and on the radio at a local radio station.
Eulah was a member of the U.S. Navy (WAVES) during World War II worked at the Naval Ordinance Laboratories in Silver Spring, Maryland, where she met her husband who was also stationed there. She married Robert W. Pease on September 29, 1945 and lived in Haddonfield, New Jersey and Morris Plains, New Jersey. She worked in the sales department at Warner Lambert Pharmaceuticals in Morris Plains for 10 years, and the Morris County Board of Voter Registration for 15 years and was involved in the creation of the Friday Evening Club in Morris County, whose purpose was to bring arts, music, and entertainment to county residents.
The Pease's summered in Ocean Park and moved from Morris Plains to Saco in 1998, and then to the Atria assisted living facility in Kennebunk in 2003.
Eulah enjoyed hiking, camping, and travel; reading; botany, ornithology, and natural sciences; history, politics, and current events; music; family history; and had a wide range of intellectual interests.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Kennebunk; a son, Robert W. Pease, Jr. and his wife, Lynne of Chelmsford, MA; two grandchildren, Emily and Gregory Pease, both of Chelmsford, and several nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Friday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. If desired, donations can be made in her memory to the Maine Audubon Society, U.S. Route 1, Falmouth, ME 04105.

Eva W.M. Shaw

Wells- Eva W. M. Shaw, 76 years, of Valley Road, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at York Hospital after a long illness.

Eva was born in St. John, New Brunswick on August 16, 1927 a daughter of Alfred and Gladys Calvin Wickens. She graduated from St. John High School.

Eva enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid reader. Eva also enjoyed the ocean and trips to the mountains.

Eva is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Arnie; sons William A. Shaw and his wife Donna of Peachtree City, GA and Stephen M. Shaw and his wife Nancy of Tewksbury, MA; daughters Brenda Carol Bowdridge of Tewksbury, MA and Linda Mae Gilberg and her husband Richard of Lynn, MA; brothers Arnold and James Wickens; sister Christina Baston; and six grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, Maine, where a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 1 at 11 am with the Reverend Bob Cole officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eva’s memory to York Hospital, Attention Donations, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909.

Frances T. Mitchell

Ogunquit – Frances T. Mitchell, age 76 of New Hope, PA and Ogunquit, died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at York Hospital.

She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on March 20, 1928, a daughter of Mary E. Lyons, and graduated from Rhode Island College of Education.

Frances was a homemaker for most of her life and had summered in Ogunquit since 1982.

Her husband, Bradford W. Mitchell died June 1, 1998.

Surviving are three sons, Mark of Harleysville, PA, Scott of West Chelmsford, MA and Patrick of Fort Worth, Texas; two daughters, Paula Robinson of Warrington, PA and Kristen McPherson of Glenside, PA; a sister, Betty Fernandez of Exeter, NH; and 10 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9a.m. Wednesday, July 7, at St. Mary’s Church, Eldridge Road, Wells. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Sabattus at 11:30a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to: York Hospital, 15 Hospital drive, York, ME 03909.
