Frank W. Hussey, age 81 0f Coles Hill Road, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at his residence.

He was born in Somerville, MA on June 26, 1922, the son of Eugene D. and Pauline E. Cooper Hussey.

He graduated from Dartmouth College earning his BA Degree and was a member of its Dragon Honor Society.

He served his country in the US Army during WWII.

Frank worked for Foot Flair in Manchester, N.H., United Shoe in Cincinnati, Ohio and Dorson-Fleischer Shoe in Manchester, N.H. where he served as its Vice President and retired from there.

After his retirement, he moved to Florida where he worked as a Real Estate Agent for Downing-Frye Real Estate in Naples.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Patricia Bell Hussey of Wells; a son Peter C. of Portland; a daughter Heidi Hussey-Cone of Keene, N.H.; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, Research and Treatment of Pulmonary Fibrosis, 122 State Street, Augusta, Maine 04330.

Galen O. Humphrey III

Wells - Galen O. Humphrey III, newborn son of Galen and Amy Humphrey Jr., resident of Kimberly Circle, died Friday, July 9, 2004 at the Maine Medical Center in his Mother’s and Father’s arms.

Galen was predeceased by his sister Haley Lillian Humphrey after her long battle with leukemia.

Beside his loving parents, Galen is survived by his sister Molly; Uncle Jason Humphrey, Uncle Michael Gilday and Aunt Holly Gilday; grandparents Bernadette Humphrey, Galen and Nancy Humphrey Sr., Robert and Pam Gilday, and Michael and Claire Boutin; and great grandparents Ronald and Lucille Fortier and Janice Gilday.

Friends may call at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells from 9-10:30 am on Tuesday, July 13, 2004. A Funeral Litergy will follow at 11 am on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church, Wells with Father Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Ocean View cemetery in Wells.

Gerard Gilman "John" Jones

Gerard Gilman “John” Jones, 79, a resident of Worster Road, Berwick died unexpectedly Friday April 16, 2004 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH.

John was born in Berwick on May 6, 1924, a son of Gilman and Stella Burke Jones.

He attended Berwick schools and went on to join the Navy during WWII where he served as a Gunners Mate on the USS Trenton. After the war, John worked as a control inspector for General Electric, retiring after 38 years of service.

John loved the outdoors, spending his time doing yard work, gardening and playing tennis. More importantly to him though, he loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Olive of 40 years; daughters Paula and Donald Boucher of Felton, CA, Linda and Ted Lyons of Berwick, Beverly and Rick Johnson of Dedham, MA, Sandra Jourdain and Dennis Flanagan of Somersworth, NH; a brother Frank Jones; sisters Estelle O’Connell, Peggy George, Mary Arnault, and Pat Dickinson; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

John was predeceased by his daughter Beverly Kennie; two brothers James “Casey” Jones and Richard “Brud” Jones; and his sister Eileen Leclerc.

Friends may call From 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick ME.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday 11 AM at Our Lady of Peace in Berwick with Father Cameron presiding.

Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Somersworth, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerard Jones’ memory to: Our Lady of Peace, 25 Berwick Road, Berwick, Maine 03901 or the Berwick Library Building Fund, Berwick Public Library Association, 43 Route 236, Berwick, Maine 03901.

Helen Smith

Helen Alberteen (Roberts) Smith, age 91 of Kennebunkport, died Tuesday April 6, 2004 at Scarborough Terrace.

Helen was born in Waterboro, Maine on May 26, 1912, the daughter of James W. and Rebecca (Carpenter) Roberts. She attended Waterboro schools and graduated from Waterboro High School in 1930.

She worked in Kennebunkport for a private family for a number of years.
Following her marriage to Francis H. Smith, they bought a house on 3 School Street in Kennebunkport.

She was a member of the Village Baptist Church since 1939 and taught Sunday school and served on many committees until sickness in her family forced her to retire.

She enjoyed visiting and sending cards to sick church members and friends. She also loved flowers, gardening and feeding birds.

Her husband, Francis died November 15, 1997.

Helen is survived by two nieces, Fay Ann Crooks of Falmouth and Cheryl Smith of Portland; and a nephew, Harry Smith.

There will be no visiting hours.

A funeral service will be held at 2p.m. Monday April 12, 2004 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk with Pastor Patricia Batten officiating.

Donations can be made in her memory to a charity of ones choice.

Burial will be at Arundel Cemetery.

Helen Huff Jones 87 yrs., a resident of Upper Guinea Road in Lebanon, ME died Wednesday May 19, 2004 at her daughter’s home following a brief illness.

Mrs. Jones was born in Rosiere, New York on May 23, 1916 a daughter of Frank A. and Mary Docteur Huff, the second oldest of six children.

She grew up in the Cape Vincent, NY area attending a country school in Rosiere and graduated from the eight grade.

Helen began working as a housekeeper, employed at local hotels and hospitals as well as private homes in the Cape Vincent Area.

Mrs. Jones’s pride and joy was her grandchildren.

She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She also enjoyed cooking and baking and continued to do so until a very recent illness.

Mrs. Jones will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by three sisters.

She is survived by her son Ronald Jones of Manchester, NH, her daughter Helen (Jones) Halbmaier and her husband Richard with whom she lived in Lebanon, ME , two brothers Richard A. Huff and Ralph M. Huff of Limerick, New York and four grandchildren Stephanie Jones, and Jamie, Janea, and Jason Halbmaier.

Visiting Hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Saturday May 22, 2004 at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel 36 Rochester Street Berwick, ME.

Visiting Hours will also be held at 10 AM on Monday, May 24, 2004 at the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church on 31385 County Route 4 (Rosiere Road), Cape Vincent, NY where a Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM with the Reverend Pierrie Aubin officiating.

Interment will be in Rosiere Cemetery, Rosiere, NY.

Helen A. Rosenquist, 91, died May 16, 2004 at Seaside Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center after a brief illness.

She was born in Gardner, MA, on August 25, 1913, a daughter of Francis and Macella Alisauskas and lived most of her life in Fitchburg, MA.

She is predeceased by her husband, O. Henry Rosenquist.

She is also predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Frank Alisauskas and a sister, Damey Dokurno, all of Gardner, MA.

She is survived by a daughter, Grace Lashua of Biddeford, ME and a sister, Martha Alison of Gardner, MA.

Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.

Wells- Hazel M. Davis of Wells died Sunday June 6, 2004 after a long illness with lung cancer.
She was born in Chesterfield, MA., the daughter of the late Frederick K. and Florence E. (Moore) Utley.

Hazel attended Amherst Schools and graduated from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

From there, she pursued a teaching career in Education and taught in Trumbull, CT., South Deerfield, MA., Amherst, MA., and South Yarmouth, MA.

In addition, she was a Tour Guide for many years on the Cape Cod and the Islands where she lived before retiring to Maine.

Her love of children, books, nature and gardening led her into many areas of volunteering and enjoyment.

She was a member of the Friends of the Wells Public Library, giving many hours with the Projects of the Friends.

She was involved with the Love program at the Wells Elementary School, and a volunteer at the Wells Reserve, Laudholm Farm.

In addition she belonged to the Webhannet Garden Club and the York County Retired Teachers Association.
She was also a participant on the History Committee of the 350th celebration of Wells.

She is survived by her husband of 46 yrs, Richard A Davis, a son Christopher A. Davis and his wife Mary Ann and their children Isabelle and Benjamin all of Boulder, Colorado. A sister, Elizabeth Mannett of Westbrook, CT., and a brother F. Knowlton Utley and his wife Faith of Belchertown, MA and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visiting hours will be held from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road Wells, ME. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 AM at the Chapel with Pastor Ellie Mercer officiating.

In Lieu of Flowers Memorial Donation may be made to the Wells Public Library 1434 Post Road, PO Box 699, Wells, Maine 04090 in Mrs. Davis’s memory.

Harold P. Hanson 92 years a resident of Berwick Road, Ogunquit died Sunday April 11, 2004 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a brief illness.

Mr. Hanson was born in Wells, Maine on May 10, 1911 a son of Orville and Ruth Hood Hanson.

He attended Kennebunk Schools. He worked at the Portland Shipyard during WWII.

Mr. Hanson was employed by the former Kesslen Shoe of Kennebunk for 38 years as a cutter.

He also worked for National woodworking of West Kennebunk for several years.

He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

He was predeceased by his first wife Georgian Bartlett Hanson who died in 1961.

He is survived by his second wife of 39 years Eleanor Hamilton Hanson of Ogunquit; two step daughters Marlene Damren of North Berwick and Faye Friend of Ogunquit; a brother Donald Hanson of Sanford and a sister Gladys Bodwell of West Kennebunk; a niece Joann Kippax of Greene , ME.; one grand niece Abigial Herroiz of Portsmouth, NH; one great grand niece Arielle Kippax and one great grand Nephew Ian Kippax both of Greene, ME.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 PM Wednesday April 14, 2004 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 111 Chapel Road Wells, Maine where a funeral service will be held 1 PM Thursday.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk, Me.

Harold E. White

Harold E. White, 86, a resident of Sunset Terrace, Kennebunk, ME formerly of Naples, FL and Worcester, MA, died Monday, April 26, 2004 in Kennebunk, ME.

He was born June 7, 1917 in Worcester, MA the son of Elizabeth (Mars) White and Bertram White.

He attended Classical High School and was graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and also from its School of Industrial Management.

He was a Fifty Year Associate of WPI and a member of the President’s Council.

He was a Registered Professional Engineer of the State of Massachusetts.

He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.

He was commissioned at Yale University and studied Radar at Harvard University and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Assigned to the China Burma Theatre, he reported to a base in Central India where the B-29 bombers were first stationed. Subsequently, he was transferred to the First Troop Carrier Squadron in Assam, India in support of Merrill’s Marauders and later the Mars Task Force in the reopening of the Burma Road.

He was Group Communications and Radar Officer in the Tenth Air Force at the end of the war and was transferred to China to assist in the relocation of Chaing Kai-Shek’s troops to strategic locations in China during the Civil War.

Upon his return to the United States, he began his civilian career with the Norton Company in Worcester, MA as a factory engineer and rose in the engineering staff organizations to Research Director.

He later transferred to the operating side of the business and relocated to Niagara Falls, Ontario as Director of Furnace Plant Operations in North America.

After a short relocation back to Worcester, he was appointed Manager Director of the Norton Company operations in the United Kingdom. During his seven years in Europe, his assignments expanded and he became Vice President and General Manager of Northern Europe and was appointed a Corporate Officer of the Company.

Relocation back to the United States included assignments as General Manager of the Organic Division, General Manager of Norton Company of Canada and General Manager of the Coated Abrasive Division, with headquarters in Watervliet, N.Y.

Following retirement he continued employment as a management consultant and also served with the International Executive Service Corps in South America.

During his years living in Worcester County, he was a member of the Holden District Hospital Board of Trustees and a member of the Holden Congregational Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 yrs, Betty Patricia (Wallace) White of Kennebunk, ME; two daughters, Patricia A. White of Cambridge, MA and Catherine E. (White) Gallagher of Surprise, AZ; a son, David S. White of Kennebunk, ME; two granddaughters, Cynthia P. (White) Brown of Scarborough, ME and Anne Maka Dakin of New York City; and two grandsons, Petty Officer Andrew D. White of the U.S. Coast Guard and Michael C. Maka of Nashua, NH; one great-granddaughter, Lucia Joy Dakin of New York City; and two great-grandsons, Samuel L. and Ryan A. Brown, both of Scarborough, ME.

Burial services will be private. Contributions are recommended to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 33 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115.
