Raymond W. Hillman
May 22, 2004
Fortunes Rocks Biddeford

Raymond W. Hillman, age 88, resident of Fortunes Rocks, Biddeford formerly of Winchester, MA died at Southern Maine Medical Center Saturday, May 22 after a lengthy illness. He is the husband of Frances (Bouzane) Hillman.

Mr. Hillman was born May 10, 1916 in Holyoke, MA a son of William and Mabel (Souther) Hillman.

He attended Holyoke schools and served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Susan B. Anthony AP-72 (1945).

Following his tour of duty, he worked for Commercial Union Insurance Company of Boston for 20 years as one its Vice-Presidents.

He moved to Maine in 1978. Mr. Hillman was a member of the Reading, MA Lions Club and enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.

Mr. Hillman is survived by his wife of 57 years Frances Hillman, 2 sons Lee R. Hillman of Flanders, NJ and David Charles Hillman of Cape Elizabeth, ME, 2 daughters Susan Hillman Bourne of Grand Manan, Canada and Elizabeth Hillman-Garriepy of Kennebunk, ME and 5 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. Phillips-By-the Sea Church in Fortunes Rocks Wednesday May 26 at 10:00 AM.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Salvation Army, 297 Cumberland Ave., Portland, ME 04101 in Raymond’s memory.

Reginald L. Cousens

Kennebunk, Maine

Reginald L. Cousens, 88, a life long resident of Kennebunk died July 17, 2004 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

He was born in Kennebunk, Maine on September 27, 1915, a son of Roy and Carrie (Harris) Cousens He attended local schools and served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He worked at Saco Lowell in Saco for many years. He was a member of the American Legion in Kennebunk.

Reginald enjoyed watching and recording wrestling and collecting Betty Boop memorabilia.

He was predeceased by his wife Irene Cousens who died in 1993.

He is survived by stepdaughter, Irene Joan Baker of Lyman, two step-grandchildren, Cathy Hilton of Sanford, and Richard Hilton of Lyman.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, July 22, 2004 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM followed by a 10:00 service at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, Maine with the Reverend Sally Lucas officiating . Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk, Maine.

Richard T. Howarth, Sr.

Richard T. Howarth, Sr., age 62 of Second Street, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H.

He was born in South Berwick on March 3, 1941, a son of Wilfred J. and Rosealma M. Theoret Howarth.

He attended local schools and Berwick Academy.

Mr. Howarth served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959-1963 and was a very proud veteran.

Richard worked as a marine machinist at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for over 38 years.

He married Susan Leffel on March 13, 1965 and was a loving father and grandfather.

Mr. Howarth is predeceased by a brother, Ronald Howarth.

He is survived by his wife of Berwick; two sons, Richard Howarth, Jr. of Norfolk, VA, and Daryl Howarth of Berwick; two daughters, Vanessa Moulton of Barrington, NH and Dawn Howarth-Cress of North Berwick; four brothers, Robert Howarth and A. Emery Howarth, both of South Berwick, John Howarth of Kittery and David Howarth of Berwick; a sister, Shirley Drouin of Somersworth, NH; and 10 Grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 6-9p.m. Thursday, February 26, at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick.

A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Berwick.

Burial will be in the Spring at the Evergreen Cemetery.

At the request of the family, please omit flowers.

Rita A. Alward

Kennebunk

Rita A. Alward, 93, formerly of Port Orange, FL; Atria Assisted Living, Kennebunk, ME; and Mayflower Place, Sanford, ME, died Monday, April 26, 2004 in York, ME.

Rita was born in Littleton, ME on February 28, 1911, the eldest daughter of Garfield and Frances Adams.

Her only child, Lawrence Reed, was killed in the Korean War.

Rita was an active member of the Gold Star Mothers, Port Orange Methodist Church, and worked at the Captain’s Quarters, Daytona Beach, FL until the age of 88. She will be lovingly remembered for her bubbly, talkative personality and very sharp mind.

Rita was predeceased by her husband of twenty happy years, Ernest Alward, who was a retired Sergeant Major with the Royal Canadian Army. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Marjorie Whalen, Arlene Palozie, Ruth Stone, and Marion Bagget and four brothers, Gilbert, Burns, Preston, and Harold Adams.

She is survived by a brother, the former Fire Chief of Auburn, ME, Ralph Adams. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 29th at Atria Assisted Living, One Penny Lane, Kennebunk, ME.

Robert E. Paul

Robert E. Paul, age 81, of Scarborough, ME formerly of Biddeford, died Friday, May 21, 2004, at Maine Veteran's Homes in Scarborough after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 5, 1923 in Waterboro, ME a son of Napoleon and Orise (Paul) Paul.

He attended local schools and served in the US Army during WWII form 1943 – 1946.

He was employed at Kesslen Shoe as a nailer for over 30 years. He then worked for the Waterbury Company in Biddeford for 15 years. He most recently worked as a janitor for Saco Police Department for several years before retiring.

Mr. Paul enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is predeceased by his wife Beverly (Brown) Paul in 1980, three brothers Roy, Raymond and Roland Paul.

He is survived by his two sons, Gary R. Paul and Stephen M. Paul both of Arundel, two daughters, Angela O. Reed of Alfred and Anita A. Charland of Buxton. Also survived by 3 brothers Albert, Harvey, and Norman, 5 sisters Blanche, Shirley, Bea, Doris and Alice, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Robert F. Clukey

Robert F. Clukey, age 51 of Kennebunk, died suddenly at his home on Sunday May 9.

He was born April 23, 1953 in Waterville, Maine to Maurice and the late Faith Skillin Clukey and graduated from Dexter High School. He continued his education at the University of Maine in Orono with a BS in education and received his MBA from the University of Southern Maine. He has worked for the last 27 years in the field of education: 10 years as a teacher, 1 year as a distinguished educator for the State Department of Education, and 16 years as a school administrator, most recently the past 8 years as principal of Carl J. Lamb School in Sanford.

Bob will be remembered as a man who took great joy in working with children,
both his own and those entrusted to him.

He was an avid sports fan and he especially enjoyed his sojourns to South Bend, Indiana to experience the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Bob had a true love of learning and was never seen without a book, an article, or a study nearby.

His greatest joy in life was his family. His enormous love and pride for his three daughters, Amelia, Julia, and Olivia, was evident from the moment you met him. He was supportive, and rarely missed an opportunity to watch them participate in their many sporting endeavors. Bob also deeply loved his stepchildren, Michael, Cristina, Kathy, and Robbie, and his four grandsons. He is and forever will be missed by his loving wife, Kathryn. Survivors also include: his father, Maurice Clukey and Marilyn Bolduc of Dexter; his aunt, Esther Breard of Oakland; his aunt and uncle, Marice and Bob Hartley of New York; as well as his aunt and uncle, Iris and Albert Beaupre of Florida; Richard and Janet Bowden, his parents-in-law of Wells, their children, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Bibber Memorial Chapel on 67 Summer Street in
Kennebunk on Wednesday, May 12, from 5-8 pm.

A funeral service will be held at Curtis Lake Christian Church on Westview Drive in Sanford at 4 pm on Thursday, May 13 with the Rev. Knight presiding, with burial to follow at Hope cemetery in Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robert F. Clukey memorial fund established to benefit his children at Kennebunk Savings Bank, 104 Main Street, P O Box 28, Kennebunk, ME 04043.

Robert N. Hamilton

Wells, Maine

Robert N. Hamilton, 73 years, a resident of the Eldridge Road, Wells, Me died Thursday at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a lengthy illness. He was the widower of Joyce MacPherson Hamilton who died in 1991.

Mr. Hamilton was born in Houlton, Me. April11, 1931 a son of Wallace R. and Mary Bohan Hamilton. He graduated from Houlton High School and then entered the U.S. Navy. He served for over twenty- five years and retired as Chief Warrant Officer in 1972. He received the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry cross with Palm, the Navy Achievement Medal, The European occupation Medal the American Defense Medal , and the Vietnam Campaign with Two Stars. He taught at the War College as an instructor of Naval Science. Following his Naval years he became employed with Alcoa Aluminum Ocean Research Division.

When he moved to Wells he became employed with Richard Moody & Sons Construction Company. He enjoyed Gardening, Deep Sea- Fishing, woodworking and reading. He attended the Ogunquit-York Methodist Church and was a member of the Masons in Norfolk, Va.

He was pre-deceased by his wife Joyce, his parents, a step-father, Kenneth Watson, and a brother, Wallace Hamilton.

Mr. Hamilton is survived by his daughter Joy-Lyn Moody and her husband Richard of Moody, Me and a son, Stephen R. Hamilton and his wife Rose, one brother, Thomas Watson of Old Town three sister’s Ruth Barker, Dianna Bubar all of Old Town, ME. And Mary Crocker of Cardville, ME five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Friends may call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 111 Chapel Road in Wells on Sunday from 3-5 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Monday at the Chapel with the Reverend Sharon Miesel. Interment in Ocean View cemetery Wells, Me

Robert W. Bond

Robert Wedger Bond, passed away suddenly on July 27, 2004 at the age of 87.

He was born to Ernest Bond and Alice Wedger Bond in Cambridge Massachusetts, on April 23, 1917 and was the oldest of two boys. He is survived by his brother, Norman Bond, of New York.

He was the husband of the late Miriam Andersen Bond to whom he was married for fifty-nine years. He and Miriam, resided for many years in Darien, Connecticut and retired in 1986 to Biddeford, where he resided until recently. He was active and in local government and enjoyed being a member of the Biddeford Economic Development Committee and “The Old Goats” of Kennebunk.

He is survived by his devoted children; Bruce Bond of Rochester, New Hampshire, Nancy Doyle and her husband Richard of Brookline, Massachusetts, loving grandchildren; Justin and Sarah Bond and Darren Doyle and 11 cherished nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at The Church on the Cape, 3 Langsford Road, Kennebunkport, July 31 at 1:00.

Roger M. Hall

Roger Merrill Hall 52 years a resident of Log Cabin Road Arundel died Monday July 5, 2004 at the Southern Maine Medial Center in Biddeford.

Roger was born in Hartford CT on November 3, 1951 the eldest son of Leon L. and Ethel L. (Merrill) Hall. He attended local schools.

Roger was a master chef for nearly 30 years until his illness, then he turned to his hobby, antiques. He was well versed in the subject. He bought and sold antiques as well as repairing them with excellence.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his sister Roxanne of Winter Haven, FLA., his three brothers Roy Hall and his wife Lee of Wolfeboro, NH., Ronald Hall of FLA., and Robert Hall of New Durham, NH. He also leaves his soul mate Rene Stephans and her daughter Dominique both of Arundel, and numerous of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Friday July 9th at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk where a funeral service will be held at 11AM Saturday July 10th with the Rev. Carolyn Lambert officiating.

In lieu of Flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Roger Merrill Hall Fund c/o Peoples Heritage Bank 56 Portland Road Kennebunk, Maine 04043 in Roger Merrill Hall’s memory.

Rosemary Shippee

Rosemary C. Shippee, age 75 of Scarborough and formerly of Wells, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at a Portland hospital.

She was born in Westfield, N.J. on September 23, 1928, a daughter of Malcolm and Julia Morrow Chattin.

Rosemary graduated from Jonathan Dayton High School in the Class of 1945 and was a longtime tax collector for the Town of Buckland, MA. She was also a Sister in the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

She is predeceased by her husband, Clifton W. Shippee, died in 2003, and a brother, Craig Chattin.

Survivors include a son, Tom Cooledge of Wells; a daughter, Jean Walters of Wells, a step daughter, Pam Schiavone of Puyallup, Washington; a sister, Nancy Burrington of Charlemont, MA; seven grandchildren, John Walters of San Diego, CA, Michael Walters, Jennifer Walters and Julie Walters, all of Wells; Michael Cooledge of Wells, Peter Clifton Schiavone of France, and Nicole Lundgren of Vancouver, WA; two great grandchildren, Tyler and Cameron Lundgren of Vancouver, WA.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 19, 2004 at 11AM at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, Shelburne Falls, MA. Burial will be at the Heath cemetery in Heath, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund – Heath Union Church, c/o Ruth Corey, Heath, MA 01346 in her name.
