Mary Jackson Haines, 85, a resident of River Locks Road Kennebunk, died Thursday, at Southridge Nursing Home in Biddeford.

Mary was born June 1, 1918 in Kennebunk a daughter of Harold and Mildred Nunan Jackson. She was a graduate of Kennebunk High School.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her family. She used to take her grandchildren fishing. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Mary used to drive the handicap bus and really enjoyed taking the children to Portland or Camp Waban.

She is survived by her daughter Janice Mosher; a brother Donald Jackson; a sister Bertha Perry; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 25 at 11 am in Evergreen cemetery in Kennebunk. Pastor Scott Batchelder will preside.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: Camp Waban, Route 4, Sanford, Maine 04073.

Peter A. Sargent

Peter A. Sargent, 60 years, a resident of School Street, Berwick, ME, formerly of Kennebunk died unexpectedly Saturday in Vernon, CT. He was the husband of Susan (Jakins) Sargent.

He was born in Biddeford, a son of Frank Willard and Madeline (Towne) Sargent. He graduated from Kennebunk High School. A U.S. Navy veteran serving in Vietnam and a member of the Seabees, in the U.S. Navy Reserves. For the past 34 years he was a resident of Berwick. Peter was employed at the General Electric Company in Somersworth, N.H. as a maintenance engineer from 1966 until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Berwick Fire Department. He enjoyed woodworking and going fishing.

Peter is predeceased by his father Frank in 1947 and his brother David M. in 1971.

He is survived by his mother Madeline Sargent of Kennebunk, his wife of 37 years, Susan Jakins Sargent of Berwick, two daughters, Stefanie Dillon of Thompson Station, Tenn. and Jennifer A. Giardino, Somersworth, NH., one sister Mrs. Donald (Elizabeth) Gendron of Kennebunk, three nieces also survive.

Friends may call at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk
Tuesday evening from 6-8pm. Funeral service 10am Wed at the Chapel with Rev. Laurent Laplante officiating. Interment in Arundel Cemetery. Kennebunkport.

Phyllis I. Roberts

Phyllis I. Roberts, 57 yrs, a resident of Meetinghouse Road, Wells died Sunday November 30, 2003 at home, surrounded by family and loved ones, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1965 and Victor Computer School for word processing.

She worked for Corning Components/AVX for 27 years in the computer room and shipping. She had many hobbies that included camping, campfires, Disney world, pier fries, eating out, roller skating (in her day!), and her convertible. She loved her family, friends and laughing.

She was predeceased by her mother, Lillian Thyng and her sister Joan Carol Matthews.

She is survived by her husband, Barry Roberts of Wells, her father Carroll Matthews, two sons Christopher and his wife Jill of Kennebunk, Brian and his wife April of Sanford, two sisters Patricia Grass of Kennebunk and Sally Love of Wells. She is also survived by 4 grandsons Dylan, Austin, Mason and Shawn.

Funeral Service will be held 10am Thursday December 4, 2003 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. Friends may gather 1 hour prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to the York Hospital Home Care, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909, the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St. Suite 300 Topsham, ME 04086-1246 or Beacon Hospice, 600 Roundwood Dr., Scarborough, ME 04074.

Richard I. Spencer

Richard I. Spencer, 73 years, of Kennebunk, formerly of Chester, NH died Saturday Nov 15th at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a two year battle with prostate cancer. He was the husband of Emily Vanderstucken Spencer.

Mr. Spencer was born in Medford, MA. Feb.6, 1930, a son of Earle Franklin and Helga Briand Spencer and grew up in Winchester, MA. He attended Governor Dummer Academy and graduated from Belmont Hill School. He briefly attended the University of Maine at Orono, ME. before enlisting in the Air Force in 1951. He served in Labrador and in Cambridge, Mass. He and Robert Badger bought a Mens wholesale business and sold clothing throughout Northern New England until 1962.

Mr. Spencer then formed Vend Air Corp. to manufacture and market foot and boot warmers for ski lodges, as well as a separate company that designed and sold suede ski masks and headwear. During those years, he joined a group that organized chartered ski trips to Europe. In 1966, he married Emily VanderStucken and the two bought an 1840 farmhouse in Chester, NH. Richard became a real estate broker and subsequently joined the Codman Company in Boston, where he took up Industrial Real Estate Sales. He moved on to Hunneman Co., also in Boston, and then established Spencer and Co. out of his NH home.

Richard had summered in the Kennebunks since he was a young child. His parents bought the Gideon Walker house in Kennebunkport in 1941 and Dick returned there from his years in the service. He and his wife moved to Maine permanently in 1996, where they summered at Kennebunk Beach over many years.

Dick was a member of SOIR (Industrial Realtors), Edgcomb Tennis Club and a charter member of the Arundel Yacht Club. In Chester, NH, he served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment. He was a past-President of the Kennebunk Beach Improvement Assoc. and a member of Hartley Lord’s Chowder and Marching Society.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years and his daughter, Mary Amalia “Polly” Spencer of Portland, ME as well as three nieces, two nephews and his sister-in-law, Renee Spencer. He was predeceased by his brother, Earle F. Spencer, Jr. of Winchester, MA, in 1998. Dick will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Memorial services were held 11Am Friday Nov 28th at the South Congregational Church, Kennebunkport, ME.

Ruth E. Larrabee

Ruth Edna Larrabee, 87, a resident of Western Avenue, Kennebunk died November 26 at the Kennebunk Nursing Center.

Ruth was born in Dorchester, MA. September 8, 1916, a daughter of Clement L. and Delia Sullivan Clark of Kennebunkport, Maine. She graduated from Kennebunkport High School and Gray’s Business School in Portland. She was a Red Cross Nurse’s Aid at Maine General Hospital, Portland, during World War II.

Ruth was employed as a secretary for many years in Portland, and upon returning to Kennebunk was employed by Kesslen Shoe Company, and later by Dean Jewett, Esquire in Saco, retiring in 1979.

Ruth enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She served as a substitute organist at Village Baptist Church at the age of eighteen and again in the 1960s. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening, and sewing. She made doll clothes for dolls of the early 1900s which she placed in local shops and the Old Timer’s Shop in Sanford.

Ruth was predeceased by her loving huband Linwood in 1997.

She is survived by her sons John Larrabee and William Larrabee, and by one grandchild.

A funeral and committal service will be held on Tuesday, December 2 at 11 am at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. A private Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery in Kennebunk after the service.

Thomas J. Connelly

Thomas John Connelly, age 81, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away Nov. 19, 2003 after a lengthy illness.Thomas was born in Detroit, MI to Ross and Gertrude (Ferguson) Connelly.
He served with distinction in the US Army during Word War II, in the Pacific Asian Theater and was assigned to the 80th Medical Group Headwaters Unit, 323rd Medical Battalion. He received a battlefield commission to First Lieutenant. He was awarded a Bronze Star for actions during a Japanese bombing run and the Army Commendation Ribbon and Asian Pacific Campaign medal among others.
He married Dorothy Francis Jordan (Sis) of Briarcliff in October of 1946 after returning from active duty and the family lived there for many years. She predeceases him. He has three children: Karen A. Blanchard if New Gloucester, ME, Ross J. Connelly of Biddeford, Maine, and Richard T. Connelly of Wells, Maine. A fourth child Laura died at birth. He is survived by his beloved sisters sue Herbert of Katonah, NY, Carol Davis of Courtlant, NY, Mary Monea of Niantic, CT and Sharon Weber Yakoma, WA, and a beloved nephew Jack Sarich of Briarcliff. 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive him.
Thomas was President of Imoco-Gateway, Chemical Industries of Baltimore, MD in 1970’s, and a vice president of Airwick, Inc. prior to that. The family moved to Maine in 1973 and he worked as the business manager of SAD 71 until his retirement in 1982. He was a gourmet cook and historian.
Arrangements are being handled by Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Box 910, Wells, Maine, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2003 and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2003. Funeral service will be at Messiah Christian Church at 4:00 PM Saturday, November 22, 2003, with Reverend Doctor Daniel Moore and Reverend Gary Blanchard officiating.

Warren E. Durdle

Warren Everett Durdle, age 87, resident of Kennebunk formerly of Wells and Littleton, NH. died Tuesday November 18, 2003. By his side were his two daughters, Midge Durdle of Moody Beach and Carolyn Patterson of Charlotte, N.C.

Warren enjoyed genealogy, playing cards, boating, reading, antique clocks and entertaining friends at his home with his former wife of sixty years, Arlene Durdle who died August 4, 2000. His greatest joy was swimming in the Ocean at Moody Beach with his daughters and their friends. He was affectionately nicknamed “The Seal” by the many children he taught to swim.

He was a past member of Rotary Club, Demolay, Kennebunk Senior Center, Wells Senior Cribbage Group Lions Club and Past President of the Bentley College Alumni Association.
Lovingly remembering him are three grandchildren Jennifer Deaton of Michigan, Douglas Patterson of Tennessee and Daniel Patterson of North Carolina as well as four great grandchildren.

There will be no services, Burial will be private in Mountain View Cemetery, Troy, N.H.

Alice Schepens

Alice E. Schepens, 86 years of age of Landing Drive, Kennebunk, ME died October 25, 2003, at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Spokane Washington October 4, 1917 a daughter of Maurice L. and Mary G. Stockman Schepens. She lived most of her life in New York City, where she attended school and held various secretarial positions. She also worked for the U. S. Government in Europe and at the Portsmouth Navel Shipyard.

For the past 36 years she has lived in Kennebunk, where she taught piano. She was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunk and active in the Parish.

Surviving is a sister, Mary C. Handlen of Kennebunkport, ME. and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St. Kennebunk, Monday October 26, 2003 from 5 – 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2003 at 11:00 AM at St Martha’s Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.

Andrew G. Rintala

Andrew G. Rintala 62 years a resident of Spiller Drive Kennebunk died Saturday September 13, 2003, after a brief illness.
Mr. Rintala was born in Westfield, MA on May 21, 1941 a son of Jalo Andrew and Ethel (Yefko) Rintala. He graduated from Westfield High School and Western New England College in MA.
He was an engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft of East Hartford, CT before moving his family to Kennebunk in 1986 where he also worked at the Pratt & Whitney in North Berwick, Maine. He retired after 36 years in service.
Mr. Rintala was a member of the Dutch Elm Golf Club of Arundel, ME and on the board of the directors of the Kennebunk Fish and Game Club. He served as an officer for the Pratt and Whitney Ski Club for many years.
He was an avid fisherman as well as bow hunter and golfer. He was a loyal family man providing loving care to an extended family

He was predeceased by his father and a sister Elizabeth “Betty” Benson.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rhonda Hutchins of Kennebunk, his mother, Ethel Rintala of Westfield, MA., a son, Craig Rintala and his wife Charity of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, two daughters Cara Rintala of Ludlow, MA and Jessalynn Rintala of Kennebunk, ME , three grandchildren and his nieces and nephew , Bonnie Scrivener, Beth Hassett and Brian Benson all of Suffield, CT.

Memorial Visiting Hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Friday at the First Congregational Church, Broad Street Westfield, MA, with the Reverend Steven Harvester officiating. Interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Chester, MA.

-Ann F. Clayton 82 yrs, a resident of Penny Lane, Kennebunk, ME died Friday October 3, 2003 at the Renaissance Health Care in Biddeford, ME after a long illness.
Mrs. Clayton was born in Lawrence, MA on June 1, 1921 a daughter of Albert and Ann (Hartnett) McDonald and graduated from Lawrence High School.

Ann was an homemaker for most of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband George R. Clayton.

She is survived by three sons George Clayton of Manchester, NH, Michael Clayton of Bass Harbor, ME and James Clayton of Monroe, WA, a daughter Kathleen Kelleher of Kennebunk, ME, 2 sisters Kathleen Bresnahan of Andover, MA and Eunice Wooles of Hobe Sound, FLA. 8 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday October 15th, 2003 at the St.Martha’s Catholic Church Portland Road Kennebunk, ME with the Reverend Laurent Laplante officiating.

Anna C. Bowe

- Anna C. Bowe 81 years of age, a resident of Sea Road Kennebunk died Saturday October 11, 2003 of injuries she sustained in an auto accident in Hollis, ME.
Mrs. Bowe was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on June 27, 1922 a daughter of Oscar and Ann M. Baxter Lussier and grew up in the Rhode Island Area. She graduated from St. Xavier’s Academy in Providence, RI and Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing in Providence, RI . She also holds a masters degree from University of Maine in Majoring in Psychology and Education.

She was served in the U.S. Navy as nurse in WWII where she met her husband Lewis Warren Bowe who predeceased her after a 45 years marriage.
Anna retired in 1987 after 35 years in Clinical Educational and administrative position and private practice in the field of Psychiatric Mental Health nursing. She was certified as a Psychiatric- Mental health nurse by the American Nurse Association and belonged to the ANA Council of Psychiatric- Mental Health Nurses.
Anna served in numerous capacities at Mercy Hospital in Portland, York County Counseling Services and a private practice. She was an active member of the Maine State Nurses Committee, serving in many commissions and committees, as will as, the Board of Directors from 1974 – 1978 at the State level and from 1984 – 1986 at the District level.
She was very involved in her community as an active participant in the literacy program and her church of St Martha’s Catholic Church of Kennebunk. She served as Eucharistic Minister. She lived her life around her faith, which overflowed to all around her.
She and her late husband, Warren moved to Maine in 1963, making their home in Falmouth and then Kennebunk.

She is survived by her three children – Robert Bowe of Freeport, Michael Bowe of Sebago, Anne Marie Dubay of Kennebunk and 7 Grandchildren – Eric, Mark and Matt Gauthier, Joshua and Daniel Bowe and Timothy and Scott Bowe, all living in Maine. Her two daughter-in-laws Mary Bowe and Dorothy Bowe viewed her with great affection. She is also survived by her brother – Gene Lussier of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., her two sisters Dorothy Dawalga of Lockmere N.H. and Jeanne Spyrka of Woonsocket R.I.

Visiting hours will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 15th at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, Me. 04043.
Funeral Mass with a Celebration of her Life will be held Thursday, October 16th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Martha’s Church Portland Road Kennebunk with the Reverend Laurent Laplante officiating. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.
Should friends desire memorial donation may be made to the St. Martha’s Church P.O. Box 510 Kennebunk, Maine 04043 in Mrs. Bowe’s memory.
