Kennebunk- Savoun Kuch 19 years a resident of Port Road, Kennebunk died peacefully Wednesday February 5, 2003 at the Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford after injuries from diving accident almost four years ago.

Savoun was born in Thailand on April 14, 1983 a son of Savoeun Kuch and Chhom Yay. He attended Kennebunk High School where he played football and wrestling.
He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Kennebunk.

He is survived by his mother of Kennebunk and his father of Alfred, two sisters Savy and Savin Kuch both of Kennebunk.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Monday February 10, 2003 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Parish Hall, Storer Street Kennebunk, Me where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday February 11th, 2003 with the Reverend Richard Horner officiating.

Should friends desire memorial donations may be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church 2 Lord Street Kennebunk, Me 04043 in Savoun’s memory.

Ruth P. Howard

Ruth P. Howard, 80 years, of the Renaissance Nursing Home in Biddeford, formerly of Skinner Mill Road, Wells, ME died February 9, 2005 at Southern Maine Medical Center.

Ruth was born June 27, 1924 in Hackensack, NJ the daughter of Oscar and Ruth Meeker Tischbein.

Ruth and her husband Walter lived in New Jersey then retired in Maine in the early 70’s.

Ruth worked for the York County Coast Star and was an integral part in starting Laudholm Farm Trust.

She loved every animal and bird, gardening, and rowing to the ocean on the Merriland River.

Ruth is predeceased by her husband, Walter and her brother, Alan Tischbein.

Ruth is survived by two nieces, Jill Tischbein and Amy Cramer of Kingwood, TX; nephew Alan Tischbein of Upper Saddle River, NJ; sister-in-law Janet Tischbein of Ramsey, NJ; close friends Elaine Triplett and Robert McLaughlin; several cousins and friends.

A funeral service and Interment will be held in the spring of 2005.

Rosamond H. Nutting

Rosamond H. Nutting, 87, of Atlantic Ave., Wells, died Monday, February 14, 2005 at York Hospital.

Rosamond was born in Hudson, N.H. on April 13, 1917 a daughter of Karl E. and Josie Jeannotte Merrill. She attended Hudson Schools, and later graduated from Nashua High School in the class of 1934. Rosamond attended the University of New Hampshire, was a member of Therta Upsilon Sorith, and graduated in 1939.

Rosamond worked and volunteered in the hospital coffee shop for many years. She was a member of the Hudson, N.H. Alethia Club, Nashua, N.H. Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Wells Congregation Church.

Rosamond married Frank A. Nutting, former selectman and Retired Fire Chief of Hudson, N.H. on October 5, 1940. They moved to their summer residence in Wells, ME in 1996.

She is survived by her husband Frank A. Nutting of Wells, ME, a sister Elane Holy of Georgetown, ME, three daughters Judith N. Mead and her husband Donald F. Mead of Wells, Linda R. Dannewitz of Hudson, NH, and Nancy E. Marshall of Gretna, LA, six grandchildren Dawn Mahoney of Hudson, NH, Mari-Lee Mead of Wells, ME, Scott Dannewitz of Milford, NH, Chad Dannewitz of Salem, NH, Jeffery Marshall of Gretna, LA, and Jamie Marshall of Gratna, LA, seven great-grandchildren, Thomas Gruenfelder of Wells, ME, Sam and Jack Mahoney of Hudson, NH, Scott and Peyton Dannewitz of Milford, NH, Joelle Marshall of Gretna, LA, and Savannah Dannewitz of Salem, NH.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Elsie M. Hallam

- Elsie M. Hallam, 84, of Alton, N.H. peacefully passed away on October 12, 2005 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Born on April 25, 1921 in Somersworth, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Earl and Margueritte Taylor Freethy, formerly of Somersworth, New Hampshire.

Elsie graduated from Somersworth High School, Plymouth Teachers College, Plymouth, New Hampshire and Columbia University in New York. She taught business for many years at the former Robinson Seminary for girls in Exeter, New Hampshire, then at Exeter High School, becoming head of the business department. After many years of dedication to her profession she retired from Exeter High School.

Elsie was a devoted and active member of organizations dear to her heart for many years, giving much of her time to community service. A member of the Somersworth Grange #264 for 69 years, she had been Master for several years, held several offices, held the Granger of the Year Award and was a leader on the Education Committee for the State, plus an active member in Eastern N.H. Pomona. She wrote the newsletter for over 10 years and made many walker bags and shawls for donations.

She was very active in the Littlefield Woman’s Relief Corp #57 of Somersworth, Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, giving many years of loving dedication to their many projects and services. She held many offices including Past Treasurer; Past Deputy President of N.H. 1980-1982; Past National President 1993-1995; conducted activities for the National Southern Memorial Committee for 5 years and was the Deputy Treasurer/Assistant Secretary for the past 9 years.

A member of the Methodist Church in Berwick, Maine for many years, Elsie loved making many aprons and other handmade items each year for their Christmas bazaars and helping with their many suppers.

She was an active member of Business Professional Women’s Club for over 20 years, holding minor offices but preferring to perform her work and contributions behind the scenes.

All who knew and loved Elsie admired her strength, dedication and determination to achieve her many goals, doing so in the most proper manner. She loved her country and always had the American flag proudly displayed outside her home.

Elsie is survived by her loving husband of 10 years, John Hallam of Alton, New Hampshire; stepdaughters Dorothy Keene Williams of North Hampton, N.H., Priscilla Keene Nickerson of Durham, N.H. and Margery Hallam Reed of Nashua, N.H.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her former husbands, Paul M. Keene and Willis Gould, Sr. She was also predeceased by her stepson Willis Gould, Jr.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 22 at 2 pm at the Berwick United Methodist Church in Berwick, ME with the Reverend Les Petit. Interment will follow at a later date in Exeter cemetery in Exeter, NH.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in memory of Elsie M. Hallam be made to your choice of organizations or church so important to her:

Norman Turgeon

Norman J. Turgeon, 40 of Berwick, died unexpectedly Thursday. He was born March 28, 1963 in Rochester, New Hampshire the son of Lionel and Donalda Turgeon.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing as an avid outdoorsman. He followed NASCAR and especially enjoyed the races in Louden, NH. He was also a member of the Eagles.

He worked in the construction field as a homebuilder.

He is survived by his mother, two brothers, Kenneth of Rochester, NH and Roger of Colebrook, NH, two sisters, Doreen Ballard of Florida and Elizabeth Overton of Berwick, seven nieces and nephews and one great-niece.

Friends may call on Monday, January 26 from 6-8 PM at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel on 36 Rochester Street in Berwick, Maine. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 27 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Peace at 25 Saw Mill Hill Road in Berwick. Fr. Hilary Cameron will be officiating.

Arrangements are by the Bibber Memorial Chapel – Kennebunk.

Dorothy M. Whicher

Dorothy Mae Staples Whicher, age 90 of Kennebunk, died Monday, January 30, 2006 at the Southridge Living and Rehabilitation Center in Biddeford.

She was born January 8, 1916 at Newfield, Maine, daughter of Mahlon and Ruby Chute Staples.

She attended Newfield Schools and graduated from Ethan Stone High School in 1934.

Dorothy married Edward J. Whicher on September 2, 1938.

She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, a former member of the Alewive Grange, and a member of the West Kennebunk United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served as treasurer of its Women’s Society for nine years.

She had worked for the Kennebunk System Clothing Store for 20 years until the store closed. She then worked a short time for Shirts & Things, and the Kennebunk 5 & 10 Store retiring in October of 1976.

She is survived by her husband Edward, of Kennebunk; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2PM Thursday, February 2, 2006 at Evergreen cemetery in Kennebunk with Pastor Lynne Campbell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Newfield Historical Society, PO Box 82, Newfield, ME 04056.

Mary Louise Jekelis

Mary Louise Fisher Jekelis, age 80 of Wells, Maine, died Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Monarch Center in Saco.

She was born June 17, 1925 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Donald and Marie Fisher.

Her life with her family began upon her marriage to Leopold Edward (Jake) Jekelis on May 21, 1949. She steadfastly followed him wherever his Air Force career took him, from Ohio to Alabama, to Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and finally to Colorado.

Mary was employed as a sales clerk for the J.C. Penney Company for 18 years.

She was the bedrock of her family and contributed greatly to the determination, loyalty, and love that carried forward into their lives, “as well as the stubbornness and occasional orneriness” her family said. Whether it was dancing in the Kitchen, camping in the wilderness, or playing catch in the yard, she shared a special place in their lives.

Surviving are two sons, D. Michael Jekelis of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Patrick (Rick) Jekelis of Aurora, CO; two daughters, Frances L. Cooledge of Wells, ME, and Judy J. Winger of Overland Park, Kansas; a brother, Donald Fisher; and nine grandchildren.

There are no services locally.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Fort Logan National cemetery in Denver, Colorado where she will be buried along side her husband.

Mary R. Tierney 72 yrs., a resident of Wells, formerly of Stoughton and Canton, MA died Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at her home.

Mary was born and raised in Brighton, MA, a daughter of Francis J. and Elizabeth (Rooney) Connerney and was a long term resident of Stoughton, MA.

Prior to suffering a debilitating stroke in 1978, Mary led a very good life.

She had many good friends both in her workplace as well as her neighborhood. She enjoyed ceramics, rug hooking, pillow making and Crocheting for many years.

In recent years after moving to Wells, Me in 1991, Mary enjoyed her good friends at Sunnyside Apts, Wells, ME where you could find her sitting outside with friends in warm weather. Mary was always one to break into song and make people smile.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Francis M. Tierney, three brothers Robert, Francis and Joseph Connerney.

She is survived by her two daughters, Donna M. Tierney of Wells, ME and Sheila Grandmaison of Farmington, NH; a sister, Alice Drew of Newton, MA; two brothers, Edward P. Connerney of Stoughton, MA and William R. Connerney of Needham, MA; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Visiting hours will be held from 9 to 9:45 AM Friday, February 3rd at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road Wells, ME. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 AM at St Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells.

Interment will be at 2 PM in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton, MA.
