Somersworth, NH

Celopie Semitros, age 83 of Lincoln Street, Somersworth, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Somersworth on October 19, 1921, a daughter of Yerasimos and Nicoletta Maniarigi Semitros.

She was educated in Somersworth schools and graduated Valedictorian of her class from Somersworth High School in 1938. She worked most of her life as a bookkeeper and accountant at local businesses including an auto dealership.

She was a parishioner at Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church in Somersworth, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are her brother, Nicholas Semitros; and her two sisters, Vicki Semitros and Mary Semitros, all of Somersworth.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 & 7-9p.m. Thursday, at the Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11a.m. Friday at Dormition of the Virgin Mary Church in Somersworth. Burial will follow at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery.

Dorintha Mae Bonney

Springvale, Maine

Springvale- Dorintha Mae Bonney, 65 yrs, a resident of Main Street, Springvale formerly of Kennebunk died Saturday November 19, 2005 at the Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford after a long illness.
She was born in Beverly, MA on January 15, 1940 a daughter of Carl and Marion Brewer Wallace. She graduated from Wells High School.

She was a homemaker for many years and she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved to sing and listen to music.

She was predeceased by her parents, her son Jay Bonney and her brother Robert Wallace.

She is survived by her son Jeffrey Bonney and his wife Myra Thivierge of Kennebunk.
A daughter in law, Danielle Bonney of Kennebunk. A brother John Razsa and his wife Valerie and their children Maple, Stephanas and James all of Gray, ME; two grandchildren Sasha Thivierge- Bonney and William Bonney; a cousin Marianne Squier.

Private Graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Southern Maine Medical Center 1 Medical Center Drive Biddeford, Maine 04005 in Mrs. Bonney’s memory.

Dorothy E. Wildes

Dorothy E. Wildes, 87, of Wildes District Road, died Thursday morning at her daughter’s residence in Standish after a brief illness. She was born in Jay, Maine on March 5, 1918, a daughter of Walter William and Bertha J. Gott Pike.

On December 5, 1936, she married Ralph Wildes. He died in 1965.

Dorothy worked as a secretary at Spang Lumber for over 30 years.

In her retirement years, Dorothy created the rag dolls “Hepsy and Hiram”, and created short stories to accompany them.

She was a member of the Christian Science church. She enjoyed sewing.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by a brother, Charles Pike.

Survivors include:

her daughter, Mrs. John A. (Shirley E.) Heggeman of Standish
her son, Gordon A. Wildes of Mesa, AZ
7 grandchildren
10 great-grandchildren

There are no visiting hours. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. Burial will follow in Arundel cemetery in Kennebunkport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to: The American Heart Association, 343 Gorham Road, South Portland, ME 04106.

Edward A. Eldridge

Edward A. Eldridge passed away on Sunday November 6, 2005 after a long illness at home with his family at his side.

Born in Portville New York on May 5, 1925, a son of Earl Eldridge and Lila (Keller) Eldridge.

He attended public schools there. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and received a medical discharge in 1944. Edward returned to Portville after his illness and completed high school. He then attended St. Bonaventure University in Olean NY and was awarded a degree in physics.

After graduation, he married his childhood sweetheart, Carolyn Eastman of Portville on March 17, 1951. They then moved to Columbus Ohio and raised their son Terrence.

Edward was a physicist with the Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus. Ed and Carolyn moved to Lyman Maine in 1975 to accept a position with Fiber Materials Incorporated of Biddeford. He worked there until his retirement in 1990.

His wife Carolyn passed away on July 4, 1990.

Edward and Aline Gagnon were married June 9, 2001.

Edward was a very active member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Kennebunk. Edward was known by all he met to be a kind, gentle and compassionate man.

He is survived by his wife, Aline Eldridge of Lyman, his son, Terrence and daughter in law Becky of Chesterville, a very special granddaughter Lila Carolyn Eldridge, a brother, Kenneth and sister in law Bette Eldridge of Portville NY, sister in law Patricia Eastman of Columbia SC and brother in law Jack Eastman of Basye VA and several step daughters and their families and many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his community and his church family.

Visiting hours will be from 5-7pm on Tuesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 7 Portland Road, in Kennebunk.

Edward Baines

Kennebunkport

Edward Baines, age 72 of Goose Rocks Beach, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Southern Maine Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born in Manchester, NH on March 17, 1933, the son of James and Alice Griffiths Baines.

Edward graduated from Manchester West High School and Boston University where he earned his BA Degree in Business.

He worked for the Bank of New Hampshire for many years and retired from there as Senior Vice President of Operations.

Mr. Baines served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and married Joan A. Jakaitis on May 29, 1954.

He was active in coaching youth hockey and Babe Ruth Baseball in Concord, NH, was an avid train collector, and was a member of Kiwanis International. He and his wife Joan also enjoyed family gatherings at their home on Goose Rocks Beach.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years of Goose Rocks Beach; his son, Steven E. Baines, and his wife Sarah of Saco; a daughter, Debra Dickinson, and her husband Dan of Essex, VT; a sister, Jane Liamos of Nashua, NH; and three grandchildren, Bryan, Samantha and Alex.

Visiting hours will be from 11am to 1pm Friday, March 3, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, where a funeral will follow at 1pm with Rev. Daniel Riggall officiating. Burial will follow at Arundel Cemetery.

Elizabeth H. Hunt

Elizabeth H. Hunt died February 27, 2006 at the Kennebunk Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after several months of declining health.

She had recently been a resident of Huntington Common in Kennebunk, ME after having lived on Merrifield Drive in Kennebunk since 1989, having moved there from Connecticut to be near family.

She was born in Saxtons River, VT on January 2, 1912 the youngest daughter of Lucian Moore Hunt and Mary Halladay Hunt. She attended school in Saxtons River and graduated from Bellows Falls, VT High School. She attended Middlebury College in Vermont, graduating in 1933 with a major in French. She received a masters degree from Columbia University in New York City and spent a summer studying at The Sorbonne in Paris, France.

After college she taught French in Bakersfield. Montpelier. and Bellows Falls. VT High Schools, and in Southington and Farmington, CT where she ended her career as head of the guidance department.

She enjoyed collecting unicorns, gardening, reading (Jane Austen and John Buchan) and traveling, especially several trips she made with her niece, via small camper, to Scotland, including the Orkney Islands and the Inner and Outer Hebrides. They also took a camper trip to Norway going above the Arctic Circle and returning through Finland and Sweden. Her last trip abroad was in 1984 when she, her sister and niece enjoyed traveling through Yorkshire (James Herriot Country) and spending time in Scotland including a week on the Isle of Mull. Two years later the three of them visited Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, where an ancestor was the first clergyman. She was a member of the Webhannet Women's Club in Kennebunk until it disbanded.

She was predeceased by her parents and an older sister, Hazel L. Hunt.

She is survived by a sister, Amy H. Meek. a niece. Sheila H. Meek, both of Kennebunkport, ME, a nephew, Rev. Dr. Peter H. Meek and his wife. Bonnie of Lexington. MA, and a grand-niece, Amy E. B. Meek of California.

There will be a memorial gathering for family and friends at the Bibber Memorial Chapel in Kennebunk, ME at a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Elsie M. Hallam

- Elsie M. Hallam, 84, of Alton, N.H. peacefully passed away on October 12, 2005 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Born on April 25, 1921 in Somersworth, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Earl and Margueritte Taylor Freethy, formerly of Somersworth, New Hampshire.

Elsie graduated from Somersworth High School, Plymouth Teachers College, Plymouth, New Hampshire and Columbia University in New York. She taught business for many years at the former Robinson Seminary for girls in Exeter, New Hampshire, then at Exeter High School, becoming head of the business department. After many years of dedication to her profession she retired from Exeter High School.

Elsie was a devoted and active member of organizations dear to her heart for many years, giving much of her time to community service. A member of the Somersworth Grange #264 for 69 years, she had been Master for several years, held several offices, held the Granger of the Year Award and was a leader on the Education Committee for the State, plus an active member in Eastern N.H. Pomona. She wrote the newsletter for over 10 years and made many walker bags and shawls for donations.

She was very active in the Littlefield Woman’s Relief Corp #57 of Somersworth, Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, giving many years of loving dedication to their many projects and services. She held many offices including Past Treasurer; Past Deputy President of N.H. 1980-1982; Past National President 1993-1995; conducted activities for the National Southern Memorial Committee for 5 years and was the Deputy Treasurer/Assistant Secretary for the past 9 years.

A member of the Methodist Church in Berwick, Maine for many years, Elsie loved making many aprons and other handmade items each year for their Christmas bazaars and helping with their many suppers.

She was an active member of Business Professional Women’s Club for over 20 years, holding minor offices but preferring to perform her work and contributions behind the scenes.

All who knew and loved Elsie admired her strength, dedication and determination to achieve her many goals, doing so in the most proper manner. She loved her country and always had the American flag proudly displayed outside her home.

Elsie is survived by her loving husband of 10 years, John Hallam of Alton, New Hampshire; stepdaughters Dorothy Keene Williams of North Hampton, N.H., Priscilla Keene Nickerson of Durham, N.H. and Margery Hallam Reed of Nashua, N.H.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her former husbands, Paul M. Keene and Willis Gould, Sr. She was also predeceased by her stepson Willis Gould, Jr.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 22 at 2 pm at the Berwick United Methodist Church in Berwick, ME with the Reverend Les Petit. Interment will follow at a later date in Exeter cemetery in Exeter, NH.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation in memory of Elsie M. Hallam be made to your choice of organizations or church so important to her:
