Doris Virginia Goodwin

Doris Virginia Glidden Goodwin, 90, of Hillside Street, died Sunday evening at York Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in South Effingham, New Hampshire on July 21, 1914, a daughter of Fred Colley and Edna Wentworth Philpot Glidden.

On May 31, 1941, she married Lee Wendell Goodwin. He died in 1989.

Mrs. Goodwin held several jobs over the course of her lifetime, most in the area of bookkeeping. She was employed by Central Maine Power Co, Springvale Public Library, and Springvale National Bank (now known as Key Bank).

She was a very caring person and thoroughly enjoyed helping others. She and her husband delivered “meals on wheels.” She was a Gray Lady at Goodall Hospital, a trustee and volunteer at the Wells Public Library, a Girl Scout Leader, and for many years volunteered at Laudholm Farm in Wells.

She was a member of the Eastern Star. In addition to reading, and doing things for others, she was very talented at handwork and made many afghans, sweaters, and mittens for church fairs.

Doris was pre-deceased by a brother, Ray Glidden, and a sister, Bernice Glidden Vennard.

Survivors include:
1 daughter: Cynthia Goodwin Riley of Wells
1 grandson: Thomas L.G. Riley of Portland.
1 sister: Velma Glidden Carr of Dover, NH

There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Alfred. No flowers, please. If desired, memorial donations may be made in her name to: Wells Public Library, P.O. Box 699, Wells, ME. 04090. Arrangements by Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME.

Dorothy Warner

Dorothy Babson Allen Warner, age 73 of Walkers Lane, died Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

She was born in Blue Hill, ME on February 29, 1932, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Babson Allen.

She graduated from George Stevens Academy, and also attended the University of Maine at Orono.

She worked as a bookkeeper most of her life and had worked with her husband in the family business of Warner Tax Service. She also did bookkeeping at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport.

Dorothy was a longtime attendee and sponsor of the Monday night Whist Card Party in Cape Porpoise, and also did volunteer Braile work for 40 years.

She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph W. Warner, who died in 1986.

Survivors include three sons, Joseph of Sanford, James of Norwalk, CT, and John of Kennebunk; three daughters, Judith Warner and Jennie Warner, both of Kennebunkport, and Jane Sparkowich and her husband Frank, of Wells; four grandchildren, Jennifer Warner, Jonathan Warner, Jacob Sparkowich and Jeffrey Sparkowich; and three nephews.

At the request of the family, there will be no services.

If desired, donations can be made in her memory to the Educational Services for Blind/Visually Impaired Children, Catholic Charities Maine, 1066 Kenduskeag Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401, or to Seashore Trolley Museum, Drawer A, Kennebunkport, ME 04046, or to the American Diabetes Assoc., Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster Street, Suite 98R, Portland, ME 04101.

Edmund W. Cote, 91 of Biddeford and formerly of Kennebunk, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2005.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Hope cemetery on Portland Road in Kennebunk.

Ernest Neukuckatz

North Reading, MA - Ernest Neukuckatz died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005 at his summer home in Wells, Maine of prostate cancer with complications at the age of 79.

He was born in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, South America to John and Ludvina Zimmer Neukuckatz where his father, John, was a missionary teacher for the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. The family moved to the Chicago area just before he went into first grade; he went to grammar school and high school in the area. When World War II broke out he went into the marines, where he served mainly in the South Pacific, and survived. He then went to Purdue University and afterward was hired by a company known as National Loss Control Services, a division of Kemper Insurance, as a certified industrial hygienist. He did air sampling, noise studies, radiation studies and so forth. He worked primarily in the New England area and upstate New York. Upon retirement he was the chairman of the board of trustees of Messiah Lutheran Church, Lynnfield, Mass. He spent much of his time helping others in many ways, such as cutting grass, being a handyman, or anything else that was needed. In the summers he camped in Maine for over 40 years. There was golf in the summer and skiing in the winter. According to Ernie….. “it was a wonderful life”.

He was predeceased by his father, John, and sister, Erika.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara; son Hans Neukuckatz and his wife Lisa Finigian Neukuckatz of North Andover, MA; daughter Heidi Neukuckatz Damren and her husband Arthur Damren of Ogunquit, ME; daughter Kristin Neukuckatz Durost and her husband Jonathan Durost of Wells, ME; his mother Ludvina Zimmer Neukuckatz of Plainville, IL; brother Alfred Neukuckatz and his wife Lillian of Orange, CA; brother Albert Neukuckatz and his wife Rhoda of Prospect Heights, IL; sister Eleanor Neukuckatz Drane of Plainville, IL; sister Elsie Neukuckatz Frick and husband Ralph of Duluth, GA; granddaughter Amanda Powell of Concord, NH; grandson Ian Neukuckatz of Nashua, NH; granddaughter Paulina Neukuckatz and grandson Aaron Neukuckatz of North Andover, MA; grandsons Colby and Jared Damren of Ogunquit, ME; grandson Kyle and granddaughter Abigail Durost of Wells, ME; great-granddaughters Alexandria and Ashley Powell of Concord, NH.

A memorial service is planned at Messiah Lutheran Church, 708 Lowell Street, Lynnfield, MA on Saturday, September 17th at 11:00 a.m.

Gage Olcott

Gage Olcott, age 89, of 10 Oakwood Lane, Kennebunk, Maine, died peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2005 after a brief period of failing health.

He was born in Waltham, Massachusetts on April 28, 1916, attended Newton, MA schools and graduated from Yale University in 1939 with a degree in economics. While at Yale, Mr. Olcott was a valued member of the Yale Glee Club and, after graduation, remained active in alumni affairs until the time of his death.

Mr. Olcott’s career in sales and marketing included account executive positions with a number of companies in the New York City, Boston, and Midland, Michigan areas, most notably the Dow Chemical Company from which he retired in 1981 after 30+ years of dedicated service. Mr. Olcott was an avid gardener, painter, and loved to golf and sail.

Mr. Olcott is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Marie Olcott, sons Michael, Charles, and Gage, daughter Elizabeth Towne, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Olcott was pre-deceased by his brother Charles and his parents Crete and Charles Milton Olcott of Newton, MA.

Private funeral services at Mt. Auburn cemetery in Cambridge, MA will be at the discretion of the family.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine and Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kennebunk, Maine for their outstanding care during Gage’s illness.

George A. Watson

George Albert Watson, 85, of Kennebunk, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2005 at York Hospital.

He was born in Hatfield, Mass., to the Rev. Albert P. and Alice B. Watson on Jan. 19, 1920. He graduated from Wilton Academy of Wilton, Deerfield Academy of Deerfield, Mass., and the University of Maine, Orono. He excelled in all sports and participated in school tennis, football and hockey teams.

He loved music and dancing and was the originator of the "Y" dance.

He joined the U.S. Navy and graduated from the Naval Academy Officer's Training in Annapolis, Md. He went on to serve as ensign on the USS Carbonero (submarine) in the Pacific theater during World War II and upon his discharge, held the rank of lieutenant (jg).

At the end of the war, he worked for Curtis Wright of Caldwell, N.J., in the rocket division. He subsequently was vice president of sales of Fenwal Inc., controls division, in Ashland, Mass., and was serving in this capacity upon his retirement.

He and Margaret raised their family in Topsfield, Mass., and retired to Moody Point, and most recently resided at Huntington Common in Kennebunk.

George was an avid golfer and active volunteer for many years in organizations including Laudholm Trust, Wells Library Board of Trustees, S.C.O.R.E. of Portland, USS Albacore and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum.

He was a member of the Wells Congregational Church of Wells.

He was dearly loved and is survived by Margaret, his wife of 62 years; his sister, Helen Lustig of Manchester, N.H.; his three children, Peter Watson of Cummington, Mass., Kim Watson of Slidell, La., and Barbara Watson Lefebvre of Groton, Mass.; and seven grandchildren, Jeni Watermill, wife of Jim Watermill, Emily Watson, Trigg and Gaia Burrage, and Benjamin, Corey and Laura Lefebvre. He was a beloved father-in-law of Kathleen Watson, Derek Burrage and Kenneth Lefebvre.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 15, at 11 a.m., at the Wells Congregational Church.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Harriet M. Nicolais

Harriet M. Nicolais, 92, born in East Chatham NY, peacefully passed away on August 13, 2005 at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with loved ones by her side.

She was the beloved wife of the late Mario D. Nicolais. Daughter of the late Mary B. Lobdell. Mrs. Nicolais resided in Pelham NY for 50 years and upon her retirement moved to Kennebunk, ME in 1998.

Mrs. Nicolais had a 65 year long career as a legal secretary first for Judge Lambert in Pelham NY, then as a paralegal for 35 years with the Law Offices of Mario D. Nicolais in Pelham NY, and lastly for 20 years with Attorney Hunter Meighan, at the law firm of Meighan and Necarsulmer in Mamaroneck, NY. She was a gift to those who loved her. She had a passionate love for football and could challenge the best of the best in a good game of Scrabble.

She is survived by her two children, Ronald Nicolais of Portland and Kennebunk ME and daughter, Marie A. Clark of Kennebunk ME. Cherished grandmother of Mario D. Nicolais II, Dante Nicolais, and Teo Nicolais all of Lakewood, Colorado; Alicia Caron and her husband, Eric of Medford MA; Heather Earley and her husband, Thomas of Marshfield MA; Scott Clark of Franklin MA and Cynthia Dowman and her husband, John, of Essex Junction, Vt. Also survived by four loving great grandchildren.

A private family celebration of her life took place at 5pm on Sunday, August 14, 2005, at Narragansett Point, Kennebunk, ME.

Henry T. Bushway

Henry T. Bushway, 88 years, of Allen Street, died Sunday August 21 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH after a brief illness.

Henry was born in Charlestown, NH on December 28, 1916, the son of Leon and Hattie Eno Bushway.

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Hampshire.

Henry also proudly served his country during WW II and the Korean War in the US Army Air Force.

He enjoyed spending time and being part of the American Legion Post 69 in Somersworth.

Henry was employed at the General Electric Company for 30 years.

Henry enjoyed music and taught piano, saxophone, and voice from his home. He was the director of the GE Choir and enjoyed directing plays and concerts. He was also the past president of the Dover Senior Center. At one time Henry also raised Harness Racing Horses.

His six brothers and two sisters predecease Henry.

Surviving Henry are his wife Priscilla and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Somersworth, NH on Tuesday, August 23 from 4 to 6 pm.

Father Robert Cole will celebrate a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, August 24 at 10 am at the church.

Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice in Henry’s memory.
