Barbara A. Curtis

Wells - Barbara A. Curtis, 70 years, a resident of Eldridge Road in Moody, died Friday March 31 at York Hospital unexpectedly.

Barbara was born June 6, 1935 in Concord, NH a daughter of Louis and Thena Thompson Ansaldo. Her family moved several times before settling in Amherst, MA, where Barbara graduated from Amherst Regional High School. Barbara pursued a career in nursing and graduated from Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.

Barbara worked at the Leeds V.A. Hospital in Leeds, MA; Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, MA; and Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA.

Barbara lived most of her adult life in Greenfield, MA before retiring to Maine in 1995.

Predeceasing Barbara are her husband of 39 years, William N. Curtis; brothers Robert and Michael Ansaldo; and her sister Mary Ansaldo.

Surviving Barbara are her sons Alan and his wife Holly Curtis and Christopher Curtis all of Florence, MA; sister Janice Shumway of Amherst, MA; and a grandchild Chelsea.

There will be private services, cremation to follow.

Arthur B. Seippel

Arthur B. Seippel, age 78 of Doane’s Wharf Road, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at his residence.

He was born in Baltimore, MD on October 12, 1926, the son of John H. and Alice Kaercher Seippel, II.

The fourth of five children, Mr. Seippel lived in Baltimore until the age of 5, when his family moved to Evanston, Ill. He attended summer school in Culver, Indiana and graduated from Short Ridge High School also in Indiana.

He later graduated from the University of Baltimore.

Arthur was a draftsman for a time and for several years, he worked for the United States Department of Labor. He medically retired from there in the 1970’s after returning from Vietnam serving in that capacity.

He met his wife, Marjorie Hotchkiss, in Evanston, Ill. and they married in 1950. They moved to Baltimore, MD for 13 years where he worked with Martins Aircraft. He and Marjorie then moved to Virginia where he volunteered with 4-H in Clifton and Winchester, VA. In 1984, they moved to Maine.

Mr. Seippel was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Masonic Lodge#113 AF&AM in Baltimore, MD and the West Kennebunk Lodge of Masons, the York Rite, and the Boumi Shrine Temple. Arthur was a member of the Embroiders Guild of America (EGA) where he was the first male Certified Judge in Needlework, and helped to found the EGA in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. He was also a member of the Southern Maine EGA.

He is predeceased by a son, Bruce Conrad Seippel who died in 1993; a brother, John Herman Seippel, III; and two sisters, Mary Shapiro and Alma L. Coon.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie of Kennebunk; a son, William H. and his wife Shari, of Roswell, GA and Kennebunk, ME; a daughter, Aliceann (Margaret) Mason, and her husband, Richard of Seaside, OR; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Eliza) Solon of Redman, OR; and eight grandchildren, Nicholas A. Whitford Mason, Margaret E. Mason, Geoffrey A. Mason, John Edward Seippel, Jacob Seippel, Catherine Seippel, Sarah Seippel, and Rebecca Seippel.

A memorial service will be held at 4pm Saturday, May 7, 2005, at Christ Church, Dane Street, Kennebunk.

Burial will be at Loudon Park cemetery in Baltimore, MD.

Dorothy Hurwitz

Dorothy Hurwitz, formerly of Kennebunk and Liberty, Maine, died in her home in Boca Raton, Florida on her 93rd birthday.

A graduate of the Boston Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1932, she was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Alfred Hurwitz.

She was the loving mother of Dr. Richard Hurwitz of Virginia Beach, Susan Hurwitz of Denver, Colorado and Tobey Isenstein of Boca Raton (and son-in-law Lorry Isenstein) and the proud “Grammy” and “Nana Num-Num” to Hanna and Jamie Isenstein, Elisa Spears, Tanya, Aaron and Joshua Hurwitz and great grandmother to Sydney Spears.

A private memorial service is planned in August in Liberty, Maine, the site of many of her beautiful memories.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to a charity of choice will be appreciated.

Edward Ralph Wilson

Somersworth- Edward Ralph Wilson, 80 years, of High Street, Somersworth, NH died Sunday March 5, 2006 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Edward was born August 17, 1925 in Barnard, VT the only son of Kenneth and Ruth Rhoades Wilson. He attended East Barnard schools. He was raised on a farm and it became a passion for him that never left.

Edward tried his hand at factory work, but soon realized that for him to be happy he had to be a farmer. After just a short period of time, he went into farming full time. He loved to be around and care for the animals. They say if you enjoy your work, you will never have to work a day in your life. Whoever said it must have been watching Edward at the farm.

Edward was also a people person. He enjoyed visiting friends and neighbors and was always eager to help out. He often drove his friends and neighbors to the grocery store or on any other errands that they might have. He especially loved to spend time with his family.

Edward was also quite a musician. He enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica. He was also a good singer. He would record his own music and then kid with his family about sending the tape on to Nashville.

Edwards’s wife Marie Broughton Wilson and his son Robert Wilson predeceased him.

Surviving Edward are his son Norman Wilson of Lebanon, ME; daughters Sandra Morris of Farmington, NH and Susan Brancheau of Huachuca City, AZ; sisters Irene Wilson of Norwell, MA and lois Moore of Sharon, VT; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Graveside Service will be held in the Spring in Brownsville Cemetery, East Windsor, VT. The date will be announced during milder weather.

Evelyn L. Levesque, 87, of Ogunquit, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at York Hospital.

She was born in Berwick on Dec. 23, 1917, the daughter of Everett L. and Gertrude Hamlin Lord.

Evelyn was a teacher for over 48 years and taught at the Portsmouth Jr. High School.

She was a member of Octecs Bridge Club, and a past member of the Eastern Star.

She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, reading and birdwatching.

She was pre-deceased by a brother, Hamlin Lord, of Ogunquit.

Surviving are a daughter, Christel (Parker) Bumphrey and her husband, Jerry of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Everett Lord and his wife Eleanor, of Ocala, Fla., and John 'Babe” Lord and his wife, Barbara of Ogunquit; two grandsons, William E. Bumphrey of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sgt. John D. Bumphrey, U.S.A.F., of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m., at the First Parish cemetery in York.

Everett T. Howard

West Kennebunk

Everett Thomas Howard, 80, of West Kennebunk, died May 18.
2005, following a long illness.

He was born on July 25, 1924 in Hillsboro, New Hampshire, the youngest child of Everett and Josephine (Vohnoutka) Howard. He attended schools in Hillsboro.

Mr. Howard served in the US Navy during World War II.

Everett was a truck driver for 40 years, working for Sterling 1946-53, Altas 1953-1973 and Roadway from 1973-86, when he retired.

He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman, which he spent many hours with his son and grandsons. He was inducted into the "Big Buck's of Maine" in 1953, when he shot a buck that was over 200lbs. He also enjoyed camping, which he and his family started doing in 1965, and continued doing until 1999. Mr. Howard was also a life-time member of the Fish and Game Club, Kennebunk, Maine and a member of the Moose Lodge of Hillsboro, NH.

Mr. Howard was a family man, devoted to his wife and children. He will be sadly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Everett is survived by his wife of 57 years, Velma, his three children and their spouses, Cheryl and Mark Laprel of Arundel, Lesley and Raymond Brown of West Kennebunk, and Ricky and Melissa Howard of Gilmanton IW, NH; nine grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew and Lesley Searles, Holly, Heidi and Benjamin Brown, and Ricky, Brendan and Jacob Howard, and 4 great-grandchildren, Matthew Hanson, Darren Goodwin, Timothy and Kendrick Holbrook, many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 20 from 6 to 8 PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, in Kennebunk. A funeral service will be held at the Chapel on Saturday, May 21st at 2:30 PM.

Interment will be in the Howard cemetery in West Kennebunk.

Fae Weiss

Fae Weiss, age 78 of Kennebunk, died Wednesday, July 06, 2005, in Brockton, MA.

She was born in Boston, MA on September 3, 1926, the daughter of Irving and Rose Yorshis Lazarus.

Fae attended Boston Schools and was owner and operator of Heritage House Antiques and Consignment Shop in Kennebunk. Fae studied Balet and Tap for 13 years and had also served as a Boy Scout Leader in the Boston Area. In addition, she enjoyed painting, gardening, nature, and auctions.

She is predeceased by her husband, Frederick G. Weiss who died in 1993, and a son, Andrew who died in 1989.

Surviving are her daughter, Donna Modist of Stoughton, MA; and two granddaughters, Robin Monroe of California, and Samantha Modist of Stoughton, MA.

A graveside service will be held at 10a.m. Friday, July 8, at Hope Cemetery, Portland Road, Kennebunk.
