Joy Keene Smith
December 30, 2005

Joy Keene (McMore) Smith, 65, died Friday December 30, 2005 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Glens Falls, NY on April 1, 1940, the daughter of Harold and Lunetta (Churchill) McMore. Joy was an honor graduate of Glens Falls High School, Class of 1958, and the University of Maine at Orono in 1962, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, and Sigma Mu Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies.

Joy was married to Basil L. Kellis and they divorced in 1991. In addition to raising her children, she had a craft shop at Wells Beach and also worked in the real estate and retail industries.

Joy married Robert V. Smith, Sr. in 1993. They divided their time between Wells, Maine and Smith’s Parish, Bermuda. A self-proclaimed cat lover, she was an active volunteer at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals when in Bermuda. For the past 16 years, Joy worked at the Wells Beach Resort Campground. She will be fondly remembered there as a friend to co-workers and campers alike.

Joy was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend. She enjoyed gardening, craftwork, quilting, sewing, and decorating. She delighted in making handmade gifts for her family and friends.

Joy is survived by her husband; two sons, Michael A. Kellis and his wife Carolyn D. of Kennebunk, and Mark A. Kellis and his wife Michele A. of Sanford; stepson, Robert V. Smith, Jr., stepdaughter, Crista A. (Smith) Komansky and her husband Henry, and mother-in-law Edith I. Smith all of Bermuda; her sister Fay M. Graham and her husband John J. of Argyle, NY; two granddaughters, Rebekah A. and Hannah L. Kellis of Sanford; grandson, Jordan M. Kellis of Kennebunk; and two nieces, a nephew, three grandnieces, and two grandnephews.

There will be no visiting hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Kennebunk United Methodist Church, 160 Alfred Road, West Kennebunk, Maine.

Karl Elwin Goodwin
December 26, 2005
West Kennebunk

Karl Elwin Goodwin, 79 years, of Alfred Road, West Kennebunk died Monday, December 26,2005 at the Kennebunk Nursing Home.

Karl was born July 15, 1926 in Alfred, Maine a son of Benjamin and Mollie Burleigh Goodwin.

He attended local schools. Karl worked at the Seabrook Nuclear Plant, Saco Tannery, and Kesslen Shoes for many years. He also developed his own trash run and his truck was a familiar sight around Kennebunk. He also delivered the Journal Tribune for many years in the Kennebunk area.

Karl belonged to the Arion Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Goodwins Mills. He was also a member of the Saco Grange.

Karl enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Laurette, in 2003; a son, Lee David Goodwin in 1979; 2 brothers: Reverend Harley Goodwin, and Benjamin Goodwin, Jr; and 1 sister, Lucille Royal Goodwin.

Survivors include:
2 sons:Dale Nathan Goodwin of West Kennebunk and Mark Wayne Goodwin of Boise, ID.
2 daughters: Robin Milliard of West Kennebunk and Donnamarie Stackpole of Kennebunk.
4 brothers: Linwood and Leo Goodwin, both of Dayton; Clinton Goodwin of Arundel; and Glen Goodwin of Chatham, New York.
1 sister: Ruth Flwelling of Aroostook County.

Visiting hours are Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, during which a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m.

The funeral will be on Friday, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Lois Ann Connelly

Wells, Maine

Lois Ann Connelly, 75, of Hillside Street, died early Thursday morning at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in Cambridge, MA on June 12, 1930, a daughter of Charles N. and Elizabeth (Blight) Young. Lois grew up in Belmont, and graduated from Belmont High School.

On July 4, 1953, she married Frederick W. Connelly after the two eloped to New Hampshire.

Lois was employed for over 20 years as a repairwoman for the Telephone Company. She enjoyed sewing and her computer. Along with her husband, she was a member of the Senior Club in Moody.

Survivors include:
her loving husband of 52 years, of Wells
3 sons: Frederick W. Connelly, Jr., of Edgartown, MA
Thomas M. Connelly of Littleton, MA
Charles E. Connelly of Belmont, MA
2 daughters: Kathleen A. Connelly of Littleton, MA
Jeanne M. Good of Cary, NC
1 brother: Alan Young of Richmond, VA
1 sister: Donna Heaney of Acton, MA
12 grandchildren

Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 23, from 4 to 7 PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM.

Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

Malcolm E. Morgrage, Jr.
December 23, 2005
Wells

Malcolm E. Morgrage, Jr. age 62 of Meetinghouse Road, died Friday, December 23, 2005, at York Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Quincy, Mass on July 13, 1943, a son of Malcolm E. and Alberta J. McKeon Morgrage, Sr.

He graduated from York High School in the Class of 1961, and also graduated from New Hampshire Technical Institute.

Malcolm married Emma Hutchins in 1973. Together, they have owned and operated the Wells Sunoco Station for 34 years.

First and foremost, he enjoyed his friends and family, and also enjoyed fishing, race cars, boating, and camping.

Surviving are his wife of Wells; a son, James Malcolm Morgrage of Boston, Mass; two daughters, Joanne Morgrage of Pembrook, N.H. and Melinda Morgrage of Wells; a brother, David of North Fort Myers, FL; a sister, Marjorie Page of Wells; four nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, December 28, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to:

Margaret A. Strickland

Kennebunk

Margaret A. Strickland 101 years, died Friday at the Kennebunk Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.

She was the widow of Clarence E. Strickland.

Mrs. Strickland was born June 14, 1904 a daughter of George and Carrie Whitney Bryant. She attended schools in Canaan, Me. She was a self-employed housekeeper and served many families on Drakes Island, Wells. She was a member of the Golden Girls of Arundel. She attended and was a member the Jehovah Witness Church of Arundel.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, a daughter, Carolyn Strickland, a son, Donald and two brothers, Alton Bryant and Victor Bryant and a sister Mary Ella Welch.

She is survived by one son, Frederick Strickland of Waltham, MA and five grandchildren, George and his wife Mary Strickland and Paul and his wife Jane Strickland, all of Arundel, David Strickland of Waltham, MA, Ellen Donahue and her husband William of Scarborough, and Carol Leggett and her husband Harry of Ohio. Several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive her.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 1st at 11 AM at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk with Elder David Noble officiating.

Interment will be in Hope Cemetery.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice in her name.

Margaret M. Savoie

Medway-Margaret M. Savoie, 83 years, of Medway, formerly of Sanford died Wednesday December 21 lovingly cared for by her daughter, Cyndy, and son-in-law, Roger.

Margaret was born in Sanford on March 28, 1922 a daughter of John and Elizabeth Cote Martel. She attended Sanford schools, worked at Jagger Mill, and retired from Sprague Electric in Sanford.

Margaret loved spending time with her family, especially going out to dinner or getting an ice cream cone. She also looked forward to completing the New York Times crossword puzzle each day. Margaret enjoyed puzzles of any kind, quilting, sewing, and other handcrafts.

Margaret’s husband Joseph Roland Savoie and sister Dorothy Boisvert predeceased Margaret.

Surviving Margaret are her daughters Cyndy Burgess and her husband Roger of Medway and Charlene St. Amand and her husband Roger of Ocala, FL; brothers George Martel of South Portland, Adrien Martel of Sanford, and Joseph Paul Martel of Salem, MA; sister Irene Johnson of Worcester, MA; grandsons Alan Burgess and his wife Ann, Nick Burgess and his,wife Laurel, Timothy St. Amand and his wife Paula, and Thomas St. Amand; and great grandchildren Emily Burgess, Alexander Burgess, Broudy Atkiss, and Aiden Burgess.

Out of respect for Margaret’s wishes, services will be private. There will be a public spring Interment in St. Ignatius cemetery in 2006.

Marie F. Higgins
December 22, 2005
Kennebunk

Marie F. Higgins, age 77 of High Street, died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at her residence.

She was born in Cambridge, Mass on August 26, 1928, a daughter of Robert E. and Mary B. (Clancy) Murphy.

Marie attended St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart Schools in Cambridge.

She worked at Corning Morningstar in Kennebunk for several years, and was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church where she also served as Eucharistic Minister for many years.

Mrs. Higgins was a Past Member of the American Legion Post # 159 Auxiliary, and a Past Member of the Lower Village Mothers Club.

Her family was her life and she also enjoyed watching the Red Sox.

She is predeceased by her husband, Clifford J. Higgins who died in 1995. She is also predeceased by a daughter, Ann-Marie Higgins, who died in 1951; and a twin sister, MaryLou Fowler.

Surviving are two sons, James C. of Kennebunk and John J. and his wife Leif Ann of Oxford; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Suzor and husband Richard of Kennebunk and Linda Mattuchio and husband Richard of Kennebunkport; a brother, Joseph Murphy of Winchester, Mass; a sister, Ann Wentworth of Bridgewater, Mass; and 10 grandchildren, Todd and Ryan Mattuchio, Neil and Eric Higgins, Jamie and Cara Suzor, Curtis, David and John Higgins, Jr., and Derek Searles; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 9am Tuesday, December 27, at St. Martha’s Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Beacon Hospice, 42 Brickyard Court, York, ME 03909.
