Albert L. Morris

Albert L. Morris, a resident of Goose Rocks Road, Kennebunkport, formerly of West Kennebunk, Canaan, NH and Larchmont, NY, died early Wednesday morning May 17, 2006 at Southern Maine Medical Center. He was born June 8, 1916 in Tottenville, NY, the son of Hester P. and William Morris.

Al attended P.S. Number 1 and Flushing High School in New York City. Upon graduating high school he attended Syracuse University as a Fine Arts Major. Following college he was employed by the Dorr Company (Dorr-Oliver) as a graphic artist. In rapid succession he was promoted at various times in his career to Vice President of Personnel, Public Relations and Government Projects. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1944, and returned to Dorr-Oliver at the close of World War II. He left Dorr-Oliver in 1970 and worked briefly for Communication Corporation in Greenwich, CT.

In 1971 he moved to Canaan, NH and after a short term with PR Publishing of Meriden, NH founded Phoenix Publishing, a partnership with Adrian “Lex” Paradis of Woodstock, VT. Al and Lex devoted their lives to publishing high quality books with an emphasis on beautiful design. In its 30 years of operation, Phoenix, aka, The Crazy Chicken, published more than 300 titles, many of which won prestigious design awards, including town histories, novels, biographies, non-fiction and art books. In 2003, Al closed Phoenix Publishing and returned to his love of oil painting after a 30-year hiatus. He has lifted his paintbrush (and more often his palette knife) once again to paint scenes he recorded by photography during his travels.

Al is survived by his beloved wife and business partner of 64 years, Reid Boardman Francis, two sons Stephen A. and his wife Cynthia of Kennebunkport, Craig A. and his wife Mary of Warner, NH and a daughter Carol R and her husband Barry Salter, also of Kennebunkport. He was predeceased by a third son, Peter L., formerly of Westport, CT. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren – Ryan Morris of Washington, DC, Shealeigh Fawcett of Santa Barbara, CA, Jamie Morris of Fairfax, VT, Brendan Morris of McLean, VA, Benjamin Ettelman of Portland, ME, Alyssa Ettelman of Portland, ME, Abigail Ettelman of Kennebunkport, ME, Reid Burroughs of Casselburg, FL and Peter Morris of White Plains, NY.

Friends may call on his family from 4-6 PM Saturday, May 20 at his home in Kennebunkport.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southern Maine Medical Emergency Department Expansion. 1 Medical Center Drive, Biddeford, Me 04005 in Mr. Morris’s memory.

Aliaksei G. Vasileuski, 20, of Belarus, died unexpectedly in Wells on Tuesday, June 20, 2006. There were no local services. Burial was in Shuchin Town Cemetery, Shuchin, Belarus. Arrangements under the direction of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME.

Alice Irene Bernier

Kennebunk

Alice Irene Bernier, 92, died Saturday afternoon at Goodall Hospital in Sanford following a brief illness. She was born in Kennebunk on April 1, 1914, a daughter of Elmer E. and Eva (Gravelle) Redlon. She was educated in the Kennebunk school system.

Alice was a faithful housekeeper for Myer Saxe, the President of Kesslen Shoes, and his family for over 30 years.

For the past two years, she was a resident of Greenwood Manor in Sanford.

She was an avid beano player.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Bernier.

Survivors include:
her son: Wayne Hill of Wells
a brother: Maynard Redlon of Wells
3 grandchildren
7 great grandchildren

Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. only at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk. Following cremation, she will be interred next to her husband at Pine Grove Cemetery, West Kennebunk.

Alice M. Bragdon

Lyman

Alice Margaret Bragdon 68 years a resident of 17 Sunset Trail, Lyman died Monday, August 28, 2006 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a long illness.

She was born in Kennebunkport, ME on May 27, 1938 a daughter of Milton M. and Margaret Lela (Miles) Bragdon. She graduated from Kennebunk High School with the class of 1956. She also graduated from University of Southern Maine in 1970’s.

Over the years, she was employed at several jobs including Fresh Pack of Cape Porpoise, Kennebunk Hardware and Fox Lumber of Kennebunk.

Alice volunteered to driver for YCCA taking folks to appointments.
She was a doll Collector.

She helped her children with Boys Scouts and 4H in earlier times.

She enjoyed watching her daughter and grandchildren at dance classes and could never pass a yard sale.

She was predeceased by her daughter Margaret Shorey.

She is survived by her children William Shorey II of Kennebunk, Timothy Shorey of Canton, Josephine Hunt of Kennebunkport, Erica Brown of Newfield, Autumne Howe of Presque Isle and Philip Gage of Lyman and her sister Esther Rote of Kennebunkport and fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday August 30, 2006 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk.

Graveside service will be held 11 AM Thursday at the Arundel cemetery Kennebunkport with the Reverend William Beddie officiating.

Should friends desire memorial donation may be made to the Animal Welfare Society P.O. Box 43 West Kennebunk, ME 04094 in Alice Bragdon’s memory.

Alice W. Peterson

Alice Wheaton Peterson 97 years a resident of Huntington Common, Kennebunk formerly of Needham, MA died Monday Jaunuary 8th, 2007 at her resident after a brief illness.
She was born in Manchester, MA on August 19, 1909 a daughter of Percy and Larah (Fish) Wheaton. She graduated from Manchester High School and Boston University (Sargent College), earned degree in B.S. Physical Education.
She was employed by the Brookline, MA Schools as school teacher for over 20 years.
Alice and her husband built their summer home in 1953 on Great Hill Road Kennebunk Beach and moved there permanently in 1971 and was a member of the St David’s Episcopal Church where she ran the budget box for over 28 years.

She was avid bridge player.

She was predeceased by her husband John A. Peterson and also predeceased by four brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son John A. Peterson of The Villages, FLA and a daughter Larah Paterson of Fort Lauderdale, FLA, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 PM Saturday January 13th, 2007 at the St David’s Episcopal Church 138 York Street -U.S. Route One, Kennebunk with the Reverend Dan Riggall officiating. Interment will be Private.
Should friends desire memorial Donation may be made to the St David’s Church 138 York Street Kennebunk, Maine 04043 in Mrs. Peterson’s memory.

Aline Marie Soucy

Aline Marie Soucy, 63, of Dartmouth Street, died Monday morning at Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

She was born in Biddeford on October 4, 1942, a daughter of Arthur and Laura (Nolette) Latendre. She was educated in local schools.

During her working years, she was a manager for Shell Oil.

Aline enjoyed latch rug hooking, playing Bingo, television, the ocean, and fried clams. She also enjoyed fireworks, long drives, and making new friends. Her son described her as “an adventurous coffee drinker.”

She was pre-deceased by her husband Donald R. Soucy.

Survivors include:
her son: Michael Soucy of Sanford
her brother: Leo J. Latendre of Biddeford
her sister: Doris Tellier of Biddeford
2 step grandchildren

There are no visiting hours.

A Memorial Mass will be scheduled by the family at a later date.

Alma Christine Ames

Alma Christine Ames, age 80, formerly of Berwick, Maine, died Saturday evening in Johnston Memorial Hospital. born May 27, 1925 in Orange County, Massachusetts to the late Fred and Elsie Youngren Lafontaine she was the widow of Simeon Ames who died in 1985. Alma was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #4485 in Somersworth, NH. Presently she was a member of Whitley Memorial United Methodist Church in Smithfield, NC.
Surviving are her sons, Carter Ames and wife, Nancy of Rochester, New Hampshire; Francis Ames and wife, Jean of Berwick, Maine; daughters Garnar Desjardins and husband, Robert of Lebanon, Maine; Raeann Warren and husband, Stephen of Smithfield, North Carolina; brother Albert Lafontaine of Salt Lake City, Utah; eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, May 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St., Berwick. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick, ME where Alma will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Amy D. Doane, 32, of Ross Road in Kennebunk, died Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
She was born in Biddeford, ME on October 15, 1974, the daughter of Kenneth L. Smith and Elizabeth C. Doane and was educated in Kennebunk and Saco schools graduating from Thornton Academy with the class of 1992. She then attended the University of New England in Biddeford.

Miss Doane worked as a waitress at the Glen Mor Restaurant and at the Kerryman Pub in Saco.

Amy was surviving by her daughter Morgan Campbell of Kennebunkport, ME, her father: Kenneth Smith of Kennebunk, ME and her mother: Elizabeth D. Emmons of Saco, ME, her stepfather: Duke Emmons of Kennebunk, ME and her 2 half brothers Chris Emmons of Kennebunk, ME and Nick Emmons of Kennebunk, ME and
several cousins

Anne D. Grieve, 95, of Scarborough, died on Monday, July 17, 2006 at Pine Point Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Scarborough.

Further arrangements are being handled by Whalen & Ball Funeral Home in Yonkers, NY.

Annette Cole, 76 Years, of Royal Heights and Delray Beach Florida, died peacefully on January 20, 2007 in her home surrounded by her loving family

Annette was born July 18, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, a Daughter of Benjamin and Rae Furst Rackmill. She graduated from Boston University and worked for the Dedham Schools as an educator for 26 years. She was member of BNAIBRITH.

Annette enjoyed shopping, reading, and piano playing. She loved spending time with her family.

On April 14, 1951 Annette married Jason Cole. They celebrated over 55 years together seeing their dreams come to fruition. Jason passed away just two days after the death of his beloved Annette.

Annette was predeceased by her sister; Betty Polimer. Annette is survived by her son David Cole of Chicago; her Daughters, Rhonda Cole and Karen Ginchereau; and her special grandson Ray

Friends may call from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, on Friday, January 26th at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111Chapel Road, Wells, Maine, with Rabbi, Ellen Farber where a funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM.

A private Interment will follow in Ocean View cemetery in Wells.

Annie E. Wallace, 82 years, resident of York Manor, died Tuesday after a brief illness.

She is the daughter of Fred V. and Nellie Watson Wallace.

She attended Biddeford schools. Annie enjoyed attending Biddeford Adult Ed and working with her church family and friends.

She is survived by a sister Esther Wallace of Haverhill, MA and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, October 19th at 2 PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St, Kennebunk, ME.

Private Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
