Christine M. Marlowe

Christine M. Marlowe, 62, of Ocean Meadows North, died early Tuesday morning, August 1, 2006 at her residence following a short illness. She was born in Portland, Maine on June 1, 1944, the daughter of Earl and Marion (MacLearn) Perry. She was educated in Portland, and was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 1962.

On October 26, 1996, she married Robert K. Marlowe in Portland.

For many years, Christine worked in the Production department of the former Sprague Electric in Sanford.

In her retirement, Christine and Bob enjoyed their timeshare in Hawaii, and also traveled the world together, visiting Europe, Hong Kong, and San Francisco. They also enjoyed their camp in Saco.

Christine was an avid gardener and enjoyed yard work and her flower garden.

Christine is survived by:
her loving husband Robert of Ogunquit
her son: Peter O’Donovan of East Lebanon
her daughter: Kelly Allen of Waterboro
her sister: Mrs. James (Judy) MonteCalvo of Standish
3 grandchildren

There are no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 4 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Eldridge Road, Wells. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Pownal, ME., where she will be buried alongside her parents. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the professional staff at Maine Medical Center for their compassionate care during Christine’s illness. Arrangements under the direction of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME.

Claire E. Pierce

Claire E. Pierce, 91, of Cat Mousam Road, died late Tuesday evening, August 8, 2006 at RiverRidge Center for Rehabilitation. She was born in Waite, Maine on May 8, 1915, a daughter of David P. and Ethel (Williams) Delong.

On January 18, 1935, she married Lewis D. Pierce. They resided in Waite and Talmadge, ME until the late 1960’s when she and her husband moved to Kennebunk. He died in 1985.

Claire was a homemaker, where she and Lewis raised their four children.

She was previously a member of the Waite and Talmadge Congregational Church.

She was also a longtime member of the Village Baptist Church in Kennebunkport serving in the Ladies Guild & Help and Smile church groups. She also served many years on the church’s board of Deacons, and was named Deacon Emeritus on her 90th birthday in 2005.

Additionally, she was a member of the Masonic Widow’s Friends in Service Helping for over 30 years. Mrs. Pierce also spent many years as a volunteer for FISH “Friends In Service Helping”.

She enjoyed family and her church, cross word puzzles, playing cards, and reading her Bible.

Survivors include:

her daughter: Mrs. Richard (Donna) P. Lewia of Kennebunk
three sisters: Evelyn Bradley of Kalispel, MT

Lois O’Brien of Lincoln, ME

2 great-great grandchildren

Calling hours are Thursday, August 10, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 11, at 10:00 a.m. at the Village Baptist Church, 6 Maine Street, Kennebunkport.

Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk.

If desired, memorial donations may be made in her name to: The Village Baptist Church Fund, 6 Maine St., Kennebunkport, ME 04046.

Claudine L. Reid 92 years a resident of Brown Road, Milton, NH died Wednesday October 11, 2006 at her home after a long illness.

She was born in Woodland, Maine on August 18, 1914 a daughter of Ralph H and Amy H (Price) Lloyd. She graduated form Ashland High School and attended University of Maine at Presque Isle.

She owned The Windsor Hotel in Belfast, Maine for many years. She and her husband also had a stable of race horses, owned a clothing store and her husband a hardware store.

She was businesswoman most of her life.
She was very generous with everyone she knew, especially her family who loved her so much.

She was predeceased by her first husband Les Page and her second husband Edward Reid, her son Darrell R. Page, two sisters Marguerite Hatfield and Maxine Economos.

She is survived by two sisters Agnes McGoey of Vero Beach, FLA and Hazel Tuttle of Sanford, ME., a brother in law Maurice Hatfield of Clearwater, FLA., and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2 PM Friday at the New Town Cemetery, Rollinsford, NH.

Should friends desire memorial donation may be made to the Homemakers of Strafford Co. 215 Rochester Hill Road, Rochester, NH 03867 in Mrs. Reid’s memory.

Cynthia Holland

Cynthia Grace Holland, beloved mother, grandmother, and bus driver, 69, of Moose Bog Lane, died Saturday, October 14, 2006 following a brief but valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Portland on August 4, 1937, the daughter of Julian Michael and Grace May (Wilson) Ouellet. She was educated in Shapleigh schools, and then graduated from Sanford High School in the Class of 1955.

Following high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and was an in-flight photographer.

During her lifetime, while living in Virginia and Maine, Cynthia was a dedicated school bus driver, logging 47 years of service. In this capacity, she was employed by Fairfax County, VA., SAD 57 in Maine, and STA Ledgemere. She drove right up until this past June when she became ill.

Cynthia also was the owner of “Colorful Candies,” a cotton candy concession that was visible at local festivals. For many years, she also operated “Sweets and Treats” in York County.

She was a former member of the Civil Air Patrol, and the Newfield Rescue.

Survivors include:
2 sons: Russell Atkins and Joan Nickens of Woodstock, VA
Paul and Joanne Holland of Sanford
3 daughters: Carol and Ron Anthony Wanatah of Indiana
Tammy Smith of Wells
Tabitha and Michael Cox of Wells
14 grandchildren
12 great grandchildren

Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Bibber Memorial Chapel 111 Chapel Road, Wells. A funeral service will be held at the Chapel on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Rick Leach officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick. If desired, memorial donations may be made in her name to: The American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131.

David G. Wysong, 85, of Huntington Common Dr., died Saturday morning, September 23, 2006 at Southern Maine Medical Center.

There are no services scheduled. Burial will be in the Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, Manhasset, NY.

Denis G. Lane

Dr. Denis G. Lane, PhD, 66, of Pier Road, Cape Porpoise died Monday morning at his residence. He was born in Walthamstow, Essex, England on July 9, 1940, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Playle) Lane. He grew up in England, where during a summer session at Oxford University, he met his future wife Carol McCrory, formerly of Huntsville, Texas. After their marriage, the couple lived on Riverside Drive in New York City where their daughter Katherine was born in 1971.

After earning his PhD in English at New York University, Dr. Lane taught at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He and his wife, Carol, also a professor, moved to Chappaqua, New York in 1977, where they both commuted into the City to teach for the next 25 years.

Dr. Lane founded the John Cowper Powys Society, and Powys Newsletter, with chapters in the United States and Canada. Dr. Lane authored “In the Spirit of Powys,” “Modern Irish Literature,” and “Modern British Literature.”

While growing up in England, he became a fan of rock and roll music. He was introduced to a then little-known rock musician Mick Jagger, who later gained fame as leader of the Rolling Stones. After coming to America, he met one of his and Jagger's idols, Bo Diddley, a corner stone of Rock and Roll music. Subsequently, he was able to write a book about Bo Diddley's life and influence on the rock music scene.

Retiring to their house on Pier Road in 1998, where the couple had summered throughout their married life, Dr. Lane enjoyed the pleasures of gardening and especially enjoyed learning the art of building stone walls. He loved their place by the sea, the trees, flowers, stone walls, and especially watching the wildlife and birds.

He is survived by Carol, his loving wife of 36 years; daughter Katherine Lane Sillars and her husband Douglass of Lake Forest Park, Washington; his two grandchildren; and by his sister, June Smith and her husband, Ray, of Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire, England, and his nephews and nieces in England.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, with the Reverend Charles Whiston presiding. Burial will follow at Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport. For his family, friends and colleagues both in the United States and England who are unable to attend the Memorial Service, the family invites you to pause for a moment, at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern Standard Time) and in this way all can join together to remember the life of Denis Lane. Donations may be made in his name to: The Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 7028, Cape Porpoise, ME 04014. Arrangements under the direction of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

Diann Marie Pelletier

Kennebunk- Diann Marie Pelletier, 58 years, of Garrison Oaks Drive, formerly of Fitchburg, MA, and formerly of Southlake, Texas, died Thursday evening, September 7, 2006 in her home after a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer, surrounded by her loving family.

Diann was born on November 17, 1947 in Fitchburg, MA a daughter of Alfred and Lena (Capone) Mittola. She attended local schools and graduated from St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School in Fitchburg. She also took many banking courses at The American Institute of Banking, and Williams College. She married Bob Pelletier on September 1, 1968 and celebrated the birth of their daughter Karen in 1971.

Diann worked for 25 years in mortgage lending, most recently at Sanford Institution for Savings in Sanford, ME. She was also the Maine Division President for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Diann loved spending time with her family, especially her two grand daughters. She also enjoyed the beaches.

She was actively involved in the St. Francis Catholic Church in Southlake, Texas, and served as a Lector on most Sundays.

Surviving Diann are her husband Robert Pelletier; daughter Karen Bonner and her husband Robert, Jr. of Plainville, MA; sisters Bettina Mittola and Elaine Caiazzi, both of Fitchburg, MA; grand daughters Jessica and Jaclyn; and two nieces.

A celebratory Mass will be held on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martha’s Church in Kennebunk, ME.

Dickie Gene Nolette, 44, of Wells died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at York Hospital.

He was born in York, ME on May 13, 1962, a son of Leo and Dolores (Hamel) Nolette.

He graduated from Wells High School, Class of 1980.

Dickie was employed as a security guard at the Wells Beach Resort Campground.

His passion was fundraising for various charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Society, and the Children’s Miracle Network. During the Christmas season, he played Santa Claus at many events. He was a friend to everybody, and would go out of his way to help anyone.

He was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Wells Elks Lodge #2738, and was an active fundraiser for Elks charities.

He held the rank of Captain and was a member of the Wells Fire Department as an on-call volunteer firefighter.

He is survived by his parents of Wells; his sister Rose Perry and her husband William of Wells; his brother Ramon and his wife Melissa of Wells; his sister Debra and her husband Martin Shepard of Wells; his brother Robert and his wife Deborah of Kennebunk; his sister Denise and her husband Gary Walton of Wells; his brother Dennis Nolette of Biddeford; his brother Scott and his wife Rebecca Nolette of Kennebunk, along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and a great nephew.

Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, August 14 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, in Wells.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 236 Eldridge Road in Wells.

Interment will be in Ocean View cemetery in Wells.

If desired, memorial donations may be made in his name to: Maine Children’s Cancer Program, Maine Medical Center, Development Office, 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, ME 04102.
