Carolyn Ward
December 23, 2009
Kennebunkport, Maine

Carolyn Ward, 69, of Wildes District Road, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. She was born in Barnstable, MA on October 1, 1940, the daughter of Charles Franklin Hallett and Ann Teresa (Talejis) Hallett.

She spent more than twenty six-years of love, friendship, gardening, and family time, with her husband, Allan L. Beausang II.

She grew up in Barnstable before moving to Winchester, Massachusetts where she served as the Town Clerk for over 20 years, retiring in 2004. From the 1988 to 1990 Carolyn served as the President of the Massachusetts Town Clerks Association. Indeed, her commitment to civic responsibilities extended well beyond her own town, bringing her to Bosnia in 1997 to assist in overseeing the country’s first democratic elections.

After enjoying summers at Turbat’s Creek for more than twenty years, Al and Carolyn retired to Kennebunkport on a permanent basis.

An avid gardener, Carolyn was probably happiest digging in the dirt. She brought beauty to every landscape she touched. Her talent in the garden might have been matched by her talent in the kitchen. Any meal prepared by Carolyn was memorable. Carolyn was the heart of her family – bringing and keeping its members together over the years, making every gathering special through her spirit and warmth. Carolyn’s love also extended beyond her family to her many dear friends.

Survivors include her loving husband Allan of Kennebunkport; her daughter Laura Landry; stepsons Allan Beausang, Eric C. Beausang and his wife Elizabeth; stepdaughter Bethany K. Beausang and her husband John Gosselin; her step mother Doris Hallett; grandchildren Sara Broadstone and her husband Jason, Michael McDonough, Lily Yi Qiong Gosselin, Christian Thor Beausang, Daniel Beausang, Hannah Beausang and great grandson Christian Brannen.

Memorial visitation will be on Monday, December 28, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m., and on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, where a Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ruth Merriam officiating. If desired, the family encourages memorial donations in her memory to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel.
