Mr. Earl S. Young

PORTLAND - Earl S. Young, 69, of High Street, South Paris died Saturday, October 13, 2001, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born in Oxford, February 12, 1932, the son of Claude and Alice Paine Young.
Mr. Young attended Oxford schools and farmed and worked as a woodsman and for many years, operated a greenhouse with his family on High Street.
He was a member of the South Paris Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and all of his grandchildren.
On November 24,1950, he married Elma Shortridge.
Survivors include his wife of South Paris; three sons and their wives, Carl and Betty, of South Paris, Dana and Linda, of Norway and Glen and Jackie of South Paris; seven grandchildren: Pam Knox, Sam Young, Danny Young, Tamsyn Young, Amanda Young, Ben Young and Gemma Young; two great grandchildren, Zack and Kayleigh Knox; three sisters, Mae Norton of South Paris, Idella Jack and Alice Williams both of Buckfield; five brothers, Claude, Jr. of South Paris, Donald, Roy, Allen and Jimmy, all of Buckfield. Mr. Young was predeceased by a sister, Wilma McAllister.
A service for Mr. Young will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the South Paris Baptist Church. Interment will be in Buckfield Village Cemetery.

Mr. Lawrence W. Hamilton

CANTON - Lawrence W. Hamilton, 80, of Oxford died Saturday, December 1, 2001 at the Victorian Villa in Canton.
Born in Boston, MA, on July 12, 1921, he was the son of Carroll and Jusline Davis Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton married Gertrude Morril and she predeceased him on May 31, 2001.
He proudly served our country during World War II in the US Army and the US Air Force during the 1950s.
Mr. Hamilton lived in Oxford for over 25 years, and worked in the US Postal Service for 29 years.
He is survived by a niece, Mary Vilasi, of Norway and a close friend, Allen Wing, of Norway.
There was a graveside memorial service on Wednesday, December 5 in the Riverside Cemetery in Oxford.

Mrs. Marie Louise L. Rendall

SOUTH PARIS - Marie Louise L. Rendall, 92, of Oxford died Friday, January 25, 2002 at Market Square Health Care Center.
Born in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada, on October 9, 1909, she was the daughter of Simon Thomas and Philonese Salway Dion.
In 1929 she graduated from Lisbon High School in Lisbon, NH.
She received an Associate Degree from Plymouth (NH) Teachers College, then took summer courses at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA and received her B.S. degree from the University of Maine.
Her first teaching assignment was in Twin Mountains, NH. From there she taught in Portland, Maine, then Naples, Maine and in Oxford until a heart attack forced her to retire in 1969.
In May of 1933 she married James Dewey Ballard in Cincinnati, Ohio. In August of 1953 she married Albert Flanders in Norway. In 1963, also in Norway, she married Jack Mallard Rendall.
Mrs. Rendall belonged to the Anderson Staples Legion Auxiliary, Retired Teachers' Association of Maine, National Education Association, Oxford County Retired Teachers' Association and Oxford Senior Citizens.
She leaves two sons, Michael Ballard of Bridgton and Thomas Ballard of Sacramento, CA; a sister, Vexanna Merrill of Portsmouth, NH; a step-sister, Leona Miller of Athol, MA.; four half-sisters, all of New Hampshire: Florence Lovering of Bristol, Beatrice Philbrook of Plymouth, Virginia Thomas of Manchester, and Irene Hughes of Ashland.
Family and friends may attend visiting hours from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, at Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St. Norway. Interment will be in the Spring in Lyman, NH.

Mrs. Ruth T. Lord

OXFORD - Ruth T. Lord, 72, of Oxford died Thursday, October 17 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
She was born in North Attleboro, MA on April 6, 1930, the daughter of Roy and Bessie White Trueworthy.
She graduated from Bridgton High School, attended Ricker College for 2 years and took a year of business courses as well as summer courses in music. She married Dana M. Lord on November 20, 1954. She had been a homemaker most of her life. She was the organist and a member of the First Congregational Church in Oxford. She was a member of the Oxford Grange, and South Paris Grange. She loved music, crafts and playing cards.
She is survived by her husband of Oxford; two sons, Linwood and his wife Dawn of Norway and David and his wife Debbie of Lewiston; 6 grandchildren, Josh Richards, Taylor Bachelder, Matthew Trepanier, Seth Thomas, Shyenne and Alysia Lord; a sister, Marylyn Benenevito of Pawtucket, RI; a half-sister, Jackie Nelson of Daphne, AL; and several other family members.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 27 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Oxford with Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway.

Mrs. Barbara Mae Bernard

VERNON, CT - Barbara Mae Bernard, 77, of Vernon, CT, died suddenly on June 9, while visiting family in California. She was born May 11, 1926, in Warwick, RI, daughter of Philip and Elsie Newmarker. In 1951, Mrs. Bernard met and married Howard Bernard in Paris, France. Together they had four children, David, Kenneth (deceased), Leslie and Nancy. From the late 1950s to the early 1970s she and her family lived in South Paris.
Mrs. Bernard was an artist and educator, enjoyed traveling, sailing, skiing, birding and working in her garden.
She is survived by her second husband, Philip Doss; stepmother, Dorothy Newmarker; sisters, Elinor Newmarker and Marie Cherms; brother-in-law Frank; a son David Bernard and daughter-in-law Michelle; daughter Leslie Bernard Glick and son-in-law Steven; daughter Nancy Bernard; daughter-in-law Anne Hawes and two grandchildren, Mysha Klus Mason and Kenneth Bernard Glick.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity particularly close to Mrs. Bernard's heart: Heifer International, P.O. Box 8106, Little Rock, AR 72203. A celebration of Mrs. Bernard's life will be held on Sunday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at the McLaughlin Garden in South Paris.

Mrs. Lois T. Bartash

RUMFORD - Lois T. Bartash, R.N., 89, of Rumford, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
She was born in Denver, CO on August 22, 1914, the daughter of John H. and Grace (Thurston) Malone. She attended Denver schools and received her nursing degree from the Denver Presbyterian Hospital. She was a registered nurse and an accomplished Concert Pianist. When she moved to Rumford she worked with her husband in the Rumford Drug Store until opening Bartash Stationery Store in 1963 where she worked until retirement when her son John J. Bartash, Jr. and his wife Barbara took over the family business.
She served with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a 2nd Lt. from March 5, 1943 to July 15, 1944.
Mrs. Bartash was a Communicant of St. Athanasius - St. John Church. She loved to garden and going to the Portland Symphony and the Boston Ballet.
She was married in Colorado Springs, CO to the late John J. Bartash, who died in Rumford on June 10, 1968.
Survivors include her son ,John J. Bartash, Jr. and wife Barbara of Rumford; a daughter, Susan L. Juffre of Pembroke, MA; four grandchildren, John J. Bartash, III of Winthrop, Andrew A. Bartash of Farmington, Kathleen Juffre of North Conway, NH and Regina Juffre of Pembroke, MA and a very dear cousin, Betty Owen of Colorado.
Calling hours and funeral services will be private and held at the families' convenience. Interment at St. John Cemetery, Rumford. Those who desire, please contribute to McKennel's Animal Adoption Agency, 88 Hall Hill Road, Rumford, ME 04276 in her memory. Arrangements are under the care of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin Street, Rumford, ME 04276.

Mr. Herbert 'Herb' W. Kittredge

HANOVER - Herbert "Herb" W. Kittredge, 84, of Hanover, died September 6, 2004 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. He was born in Berlin, NH on September 19, 1919, the son of James B. and Elizabeth M. (King) Kittredge. Mr. Kittredge was an Army Veteran of WWII and had worked as a carpenter most of his life. He married Ruth Rolfe on April 1, 1939. He was a member of the American Legion Post 81 of Bethel as well as the 40/8 of the Legion. He was an avid snowmobiler and a member of the Windy Valley Snowmobile Club where the Club house is dedicated to him.
Mr. Kittredge is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Rolfe) Kittredge of South Paris; one son, Walter Kittredge and his wife Sandra Coyle of Ft. Meyers, FL; two daughters, Patricia M. Brown and her husband Blair C. Sr. of Brunswick and Kathy L. Bean and her husband Harlan of South Paris; one brother, Henry Kittredge and his wife Marie of Georgia; one sister Ella Rolfe of Waterford; seven grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Laurier M. Kittredge in 1975; two brothers, Lewis Kittredge and Arthur Kittredge and one sister, Lillian Herrick.
Graveside funeral services were held at the Pine Grove Cemetery, West Bethel on Sunday September 12 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Dingley officiating.
The family suggests those who wish may make memorials in Mr. Kittredge's name to the Maine Handicapped Skiing, c/o Wendy Iseman, 8 Sundance Lane, Newry, ME 04261.

Mr. Charles "Bumpa" Pavlock

WEST PARIS - Charles "Bumpa" Pavlock, 85, of West Paris, formerly of New Bedford and Fall River, MA, died at home Monday, November 8.
He was the husband of the late Mabel (Gregory) Pavlock.
Born in Shenandoah, PA, he lived in New Bedford and Fall River for many years and in West Paris for the past year and a half.
A retired Navy Chief Petty Officer, he also served in the Army and Coast Guard and was a veteran of W W II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was employed by the Goodyear Rubber Co., New Bedford.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Jennifer Roy and her husband Richard of ME; a grandson, Christopher Guertin and his wife Lesley of Fall River; five great-grandchildren, Jared, Adam, Jaymeson, Klair and Brennah; a sister, Catherine Calandra of Philadelphia; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Patricia A. Charette and a brother Anthony Pavlock.
A funeral service will be held Friday, November 12, at 9 a.m. in the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Androscoggin Hospice, 127 Pottle Rd., Oxford, ME 04270.

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Seeley

OTISFIELD - Dorothy Mae Seeley, 79, of Bolsters Mills Rd. died Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at her home. She was born in German, PA on March 12, 1925, a daughter of Stanford and Grace Collins.
When she was 16 she attended Hornell Bible School and at the age of 34 she began her ministry career in Rochester, NY. Mrs. Seeley served in the ministry for 32 years until she became too ill to continue. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. On October 30, 1942 she married her childhood sweetheart and soulmate, Earl E. Seeley. Mr. and Mrs. Seeley worked together in ministry for the entire 62 years they were married.
Surviving are her husband; three sons, Earl Robert Seeley, Edwin Clyde Seeley and Gaston William Seeley; two daughters, Mary Ann Stuart and Martha Mae McCormick; her sister, Agnes Colter; her brother, Lester Collins; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours were held Thursday, December 30 at Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Rd., Casco where a funeral service was held Friday.
