Stephen L. Davis

Stephen L. Davis, 62, of Carriage House Apartments at Georgeana Way, formerly of Old Post Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 12 at his residence.

He was born May 10, 1939 in Dallas, Pa., son of Stephen and Iona (Davies) Davis.

He served in the U.S. Army Intelligence Division during the Vietnam War.

He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary in Wyoming, Pa. Mr. Davis received a bachelor's degree from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa., and received a master of English literature degree from the University of Maine, Orono.

He had been employed as a field representative for the Social Security Administration at the Portsmouth, N.H. office for 25 years, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement he worked for Advanced Systems in Dover, N.H. until 2000.

Mr. Davis was an avid reader, a sports fan and enjoyed classical music. He especially liked model railroading and had constructed an extensive model railway system in his basement.

Survivors include his former wife of 35 years, Linda (Suitor) Davis of York; one daughter, Leah, and her husband, Richard Evans of York; one son, Owen Davis and his wife, Becky of York; three grandchildren, Mallory and Heather Evans and Abigail Davis; one brother, Dwight Davis of Dallas, Pa.; two aunts and an uncle, Betty Davies and Arlene and Garfield Davies of Pa.; many nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.

Patricia S. Donnell

In memory of Patricia Donnell of Ogunquit, who died Feb. 7, 2002:

Donations may be made out to the Patrick Thompson House and mailed c/o Martha B. Burke, Program Manager of the Care Coordinator Dept. at Brigham and Women's Hospital, 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115.

Katherine Grune

Katherine Grune, 89, a longtime resident of Peekskill, N.Y., died on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002.

Ms. Grune was born in Montrose, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Jane Farley Grune, Sr.

She served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, working as a court stenographer in New York City.

Ms. Grune was a communicant at Assumption Church in New York.

She and her sister, Eleanor Grune, enjoyed vacationing the summer months at the Little "A" Cottages in York Beach.

Survivors include one brother, Charles Grune Jr.; three nieces, Joy Ann Grune, Jane Ekizian, Janet Grover; one nephew, Jeffrey Grune; three great-nieces, one great-nephew and several cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Christopher's Inn, Graymoor, P.O. Box 300, Garrison, N.Y. 10524, or Peekskill Ambulance Corps., P.O. Box 173, Peekskill, NY 10566.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Feb. 9, followed by Interment at Assumption cemetery in Peekskill.

James M. Tuholski

James M. Tuholski of Stuart, Fla., and York Harbor, formerly of Greenwich, Conn., died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 of cancer at his home in York Harbor.

He was born Oct. 21, 1924 in Henning, Tenn. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Tennessee and completed his pediatric residency there. He later became president and chief executive officer of Mead Johnson Company of Evansville, Ind. He retired in 1984 from Bristol-Myers Squibb where he served as executive vice president and then president of the Health Care Division.

Dr. Tuholski served as director of the Federal Reserve Board, St. Louis District. He was also on the University of Tennessee Development Council for 24 years. He was a board member of the Greenwich Country Club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greenwich.

His first wife, Lois H. Tuholski, predeceased him in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Sis Hoy Tuholski; five daughters, Lynn Sawyer and Nancy Tuholski Solomon of Arlington, Va., Betty Adams of Pelham, Ga., Gay Zervos of Norfolk, Mass. and Sally Tuholski Gleeson of Stamford, Conn.; 10 grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at the family farm in Tennessee. Memorial contributions may be made to York Hospital or to the Salvation Army.

Josephine DiMario

Josephine DiMario, 77, of Cape Neddick, died Monday, July 30 at the home of her son, Dr. Richard DiMario of Cape Neddick.

She was the daughter of the late Leonardo and Anunziata Scaramuzzino, who settled in Kenilworth, New Jersey, in 1915 from Calabria, Italy.

DiMario was a lifelong resident of Kenilworth, N.J., and spent the last two years of her life with her son in Cape Neddick during her illness.

She was a medical secretary for 15 years in New Jersey and prior to that was employed by General Motors for many years.

She was the wife of the late Kenilworth, N.J., Police Chief Joseph DiMario and the mother of the late Joseph DiMario, Jr., of Freehold, N.J.

Besides her son, Richard, she is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Tortorello and a sister Jean Pazienza of Kenilworth, N.J.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held August 3 in New Jersey.

Gerald G. Grover

Gerald G. Grover, 81, of 755 Shore Road, Cape Neddick, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at the Maine Veterans Home of Scarborough.

He was born on Dec. 30, 1919, in York, Maine, the son of Maurice and Sadie (Perkins) Grover. He was a 1938 graduate of York High School and attended the Wentworth Institute. Mr. Grover served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Grover had been employed as a sales representative for Decodex, a manufacturer of microfilm for the healthcare profession.

He attended the First Parish Church of York. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Ogunquit, St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge #198 of York and the Maine Royal Arch Chapter #73.

He enjoyed traveling throughout the world and he enjoyed caring for and raising his dog, Chelsea.

Mr. Grover was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Phillip Grover, and by a sister, Beatrice Bowen.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Weare) Grover of Cape Neddick; one daughter, Patricia J. Donnell of Cape Neddick; one step-son, Richard S. "Rick" Knight Jr. of Cape Neddick; four grandsons, Richard Knight III, Jon Knight, Joel and Zachary Donnell.

Private services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094. Arrangements by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.

Robert Hardy

Robert P. Hardy, 53, of Balsam Lane, Kennebunk, Maine, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at his residence.

He was born in Portland on Jan. 2, 1948, a son of Alfred W. and Lorraine Legere Bowen, Jr. He attended Holy Cross Grammar School and was a graduate of South Portland High School, class of 1967. He also was a graduate of the Culinary Arts program at S.M.V.T.I.

Mr. Hardy served with the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1969 and then with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1970 to 1975.

He had been employed as a dairy and produce manager for Shaw's Supermarkets.

Mr. Hardy's interest in music brought him to the dream of being an Elvis impersonator. That dream came to life when he and his son-in-law, Tony Finocchietti, started up "In the Memory of Elvis," a musical tribute to Elvis Presley. He did shows starting in North Yarmouth, Portland, South Portland and the Lewiston-Auburn areas, eventually branching out to Augusta and Bangor. He also did more than 75 shows in those areas. Mr. Hardy did benefit concerts for the Sweetser Children's Home and donated part of the proceeds to various local charities. his audiences were starstruck as to how he could bring "The Memory of Elvis" to life. He never revealed his real name in order to maintain the essence of the real Elvis in concert. Before his illness, he and his teammates had plans to tour the northeast United States.

Mr. Hardy was a former communicant of Holy Cross Church and a member of the Veterans in Politics.

Survivors include his mother, Lorraine Ware of Freeport, Maine; his wife, Sharon Ann (Caron) Hardy of Kennebunk; four daughters, Michelle Finocchietti of Gray, Maine; Susan Hardy of Bradenton, Fla.; Erin Codd of Boulder, Colo.; Katie Codd of Gray; two sisters, Diane Deragon of Freeport; Janice Hardy of Saco, Maine; a brother, Sherman "Chip" Hardy, Jr., of Standish, Maine; and two grandchildren.

Funeral and burial were held last week, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.

Ethel T. Houser

Ethel T. Houser, 83, of Cape Neddick, Maine, formerly of Rensselaer, N.Y., died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at the Homestead Nursing Home in Kittery.

She was born on July 12, 1918 in Castleton, Vt., the daughter of Charles and Esther Toth and was a graduate of Castleton High School. She received her degree in teaching from Castleton State Teachers College and received a Masters in Education from the State University of New York at Albany.

During World War II, Houser had worked in the Springfield, Mass. Armory assembling M-1 rifles for the military.

Mrs. Houser was a teacher at the Rensselaer, N.Y., Elementary School and had been assistant principal of the Rensselaer Junior High School and principal of Rensselaer High School.

She had resided in Rensselaer most of her life, moving to Cape Neddick in 1988.

She was formerly active in the Cub Scouts, Little League and the Parent-Teachers Association. She enjoyed knitting.

She was predeceased by her husband, John A. Houser, who died in 1988.

Survivors include two sons, John A. Houser III of Kings Mills, Ohio, and Charles T. Houser of Cape Neddick; two sisters, Eleanor "Toots" Anderson of Castleton, Vt., and Elizabeth "Bersh" Hammond of Chester Depot, Vt.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held Monday, Aug. 20 at Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York. Private Interment will be held in Albany, N.Y.

Rita B. Keith

Rita B. Keith, 84, of 76 Winter St., Rochester, N.H., died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001 at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Keith was born in Rochester on July 1, 1917, the daughter of Emilio and Ida (Morin) Beaulieu and was a lifelong resident of Rochester as well as a lifelong summer resident of York Beach, Maine. She was the widow of H. Merrit Keith who died in 1995 and was also predeceased by a son, Wayne Keith, who died in May of 2001.

She was an avid ballroom dancer, frequenting the Rockingham Ballroom and loved big band music. She was also a member of the Senior Friends and the AARP.

Surviving members of the family include: one daughter, Cheryl Clark of York, Maine; one son, Vaughn Keith of Rochester; two sisters, Angele Southworth of York and Stella Cole of East Rochester, N.H.; two brothers, Julien Beaulieu of Gonic, N.H., and Russell Beaulieu of York Beach; three grandchildren, Sheila Lessard of Auburn, N.H.; Tanya Clark of Orlando, Fla.; and Thomas Keith of Kittery, Maine; two great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Cydney Lessard of Auburn; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial took place yesterday in Holy Rosary cemetery in Rochester.

Leonard Munroe

Leonard Munroe, 85, of 36 Ridge Road, York, Maine, husband of Olive H. (Bowden) Munroe, died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 14, 2001, at York Hospital.

Born in Portland, Maine, on September 12, 1915, he was the son of James A. and Margaret J. (Snowie) Munroe and was a graduate of Portland High School in Portland, Maine. He spent his boyhood at Nason's Corner in Portland.

Mr. Munroe served in the Navy during World War II.

He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a nuclear electrical inspector and retired in 1970.

He attended the First Parish Church in York. He was a member of the American Legion Post #56 in York and was a 50-year member of the Triangle Mason Lodge #1 in Portland. He was a Meals on Wheels volunteer for the First Parish Church.

Besides his wife of 62 years, survivors include his son, Peter L. Munroe, and his wife, Debra, of Farmington, N.H.; and step-grandson, Kevin Cassell of Venezuela; his daughter, Judith J. McIntire and her husband, Wayne, of York; three grandchildren, Stephanie J. (Fuller) Collier and her husband, Walter, of Anthem, Ariz.; Lisa J. (Fuller) Patterson and her husband, Eric, of York; and Jonathan S. McIntire of York; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the First Parish Congregational Church, York Street, York. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland, Maine. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made either to the Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children and Adults, P.O. Box 518, Bath, ME 04530, or to the York Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 238, York, ME 03909.

Evans A. Walker

Evans A. Walker, 82, of Sun City, Ariz., and York, Maine, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, in Sun City, Ariz.

Mr. Walker was born on April 21, 1919, in Leominster, Mass. He was the son of Frank and Adeline (Johnson) Walker. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was the co-owner of Nutting and Walker Sheet Metal in Leominster, retiring in 1983. Mr. Walker moved to Arizona in 1983 and was an avid golfer.

His wife, Loretta (Gravelle) Walker predeceased him in 1988. He is survived by one son, Dennis E. Walker of Cornado, Calif.; three daughters, Jean Sheldon of Leominster; Kathleen W. Boston of York Beach, Maine; Kim Walker-Lewis of South Berwick, Maine; one sister, Doris Ringer of Monrovia, Calif.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a special companion with whom he lived, Trudy Pommier of Sun City.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22 in the Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St., Leominster. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Leominster.

Gertrude Sanborn Anderson

Gertrude Sanborn Anderson, 90, a resident of Falmouth, formerly of Moody, died Feb. 1, 2002, at her residence following a long illness.

Mrs. Anderson was born in South Portland, May 27, 1911, a daughter of Daniel A. and Mildred (Runnels) Sanborn.

She was a member of the York/Ogunquit Methodist Church and also belonged to the Cumberland Temple Pythians Sisters, Wells Historical Society, the Mary Martha Circle and worked at the Ogunquit Publicity Bureau for a number of years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard J. Anderson, and also her son, Bernard J. Anderson, both in 1964.

She is survived by two sisters, Wenona Cook of Moody, and Muriel Patrick of South Gardner; and several nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A graveside service will be held this spring at the Forest City Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells.
