Glenn C. McIntire

Glenn C. McIntire, 81, of 171 Beech Ridge Road, York, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at his residence.

He was born on July 30, 1920, in York, the son of Claude A. and Etta (Pratt) McIntire. He was a 1938 graduate of York High School. He had served in the U.S. Army in Africa and Italy during World War II.

He had been a foreman for Iafolla Construction Company of Portsmouth, N.H., and worked for the Pease Air Force Base Public Works Department, Newington, N.H., for many years. He later became foreman of Shop 02 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, retiring in 1982 after 22 years.

Mr. McIntire had operated the McIntire Farm for many years and operated the McIntire Christmas Tree Farm, which he began in 1968, with his son, Gary.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American legion, John F. Hill Grange of Eliot, and was a 49-year member of St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge.

He enjoyed spending time at his camp in Brownfield, and wintered in Haines City, Fla., for 14 years. He enjoyed caring for his dog, Buddy. Mr. McIntire was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed fishing and traveling the back roads of Maine. he and his wife, Frances, had just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in May.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah McIntire, who died in 1948; by a granddaughter, Sarah McIntire, who died in 1973, and by his nephew, Robert McIntire, who died in 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Frances M. (Blaisdell) McIntire of York; two sons, Gary R. McIntire and his wife, Julie, of York, and Wayne McIntire and his wife, Judy, of York; one daughter, Suzanne Woodbury and her husband, Chester, of York; eight grandchildren, Evan, Ian, Cameron and Jonathan McIntire, Kate and Meredith Woodbury, Lisa Patterson and Stephanie Collier; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held Saturday at Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York, with Interment in First Parish Cemetery. Masonic services were held Friday. Donations may be made to the York Hospital Home Care, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909, or to the York Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 238, York, ME 03909.

James P. Sullivan

Retired Captain James P. "Jim" Sullivan, Salem (Mass.) Fire Department, 81, husband of Mary "Betty" (O'Brien) Sullivan of Salem and Ogunquit, died at home Thursday, July 4, 2002. He and his wife had celebrated 50 years of marriage Oct. 6, 2001.

Born in Peabody, Mass., the son of the late Patrick H. and Elizabeth (Dalton) Sullivan, he was educated in Salem Elementary Schools and was graduated from St. Mary's High School, Lynn, Mass. During World War II, he was employed briefly by the former A.C. Lawrence Leather Company. In 1948, he was appointed to the Salem Fire Department and spent most of his career at Engine 4, Salem, until retiring in 1983 with 35 years of service.

Among the activities enjoyed the most were his family, traveling and gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James P. "Jim" Jr. and Karen Sullivan of Danvers, Mass.; a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Sullivan of Newport, N.H.; a brother, William Sullivan of New Haven, Conn.; a sister, Marie Giunta of Salem; three grandchildren, Ean, Ryan and Ashley Sullivan, all of Danvers, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday in Salem, with Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 12 Kent's Way. Theodore Hansen

Theodore Hansen, 78, of York, and Winter Haven, Fla., died of kidney failure on Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at his residence.

Mr. Hansen was born March 12, 1923 in Lake Forest, Ill.

He was a Maine resident for 54 years, and began wintering in Florida 13 years ago.

Mr. Hansen was employed as a plumbing and heating contractor.

He attended Hope Presbyterian of Winter Haven, and was a member of the First Parish Church of York.

He was a member of St. Aspinquid Lodge No. 198, a trustee of the York Sewer District, and a past commander of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Jean M. Hansen; a brother, Gerrold Hansen of Lake Forest, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Betty M. Homes, and four nephews.

Funeral arrangements will be made at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Marion E. Desmond

Marion E. Desmond, 90, of 2 Victoria Court, York, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at her residence after a long illness.

She was born on June 23, 1911, in Stoneham, Mass., the daughter of Francis S. and Ella (Driscoll) Desmond. She was a 1928 graduate of Stoneham High School and received a bachelor of education from Boston University in 1932 and was a member of Phi Lambda Sigma sorority.

Miss Desmond had been a schoolteacher and served as principal at Stoneham Elementary School for 39 years. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Teachers and volunteered in York for many years.

Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Robert (Eleanor F.) Morris of Stoneham; two nephews, Paul R. Morris of Merrimac, Mass., and Donald F. Morris of Greenland, N.H.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday in St. Christopher Church, York. Memorial donations may be made to St. Christopher Church, 1 Lilac Lane, York, ME 03909, or to the charity of one's choice.

Olive Foley

Olive Ann (Sullivan) Foley, 73, of 11 Desmond Lane, York, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at York Hospital.

She was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Manchester, N.H., daughter of George and Alice (Fountaine) Sullivan and graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1946.

Before being a homemaker, she was employed as a clerk in the City Treasurer's Office in Manchester.

She and her husband, Donald, chose Manchester to raise their family of five children. They had relocated to York 12 years ago to embrace their retirement years. This past November they celebrated 49 years of loving, dedicated marriage together.

For all she had endured, Mom was an inspiration to us all in what life is about. Regardless of her pain and discomfort, she was a shining lesson in life, that of love, and unconditional acceptance for the people we are.

When she smiled it caused others to brighten. This was the magic she possessed. She was active in the Paget Foundation and was a volunteer at York Hospital. She enjoyed reading and painting with watercolors.

She leaves her husband, Donald M. Foley of York; four sons and their wives, Michael Foley of South Berwick, Donald and Patricia Foley of Manchester, Shaun and Margaret Foley of Merrimack, N.H., and Kevin and Kristy Foley of Mount Vernon, N.H.; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Paul Masse of York; two sisters, Margaret Parodi of Auburn, N.H., and Teresa Donati of Goffstown, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; many friends and wonderful caregivers from the Adult Day Program of Portsmouth, N.H.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday in St. Christopher Church, York. In lieu of flowers, it is the family's request to make donations in her memory to the Paget Foundation, 120 Wall Street, No. 1602, New York, NY 10005, and/or to the Adult Day Program (VNS) of Portsmouth, N.H.

Helen M. Smith

Helen M. (McCormack) O'Donnell Smith, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at home after a long battle with progressive supranuclear palsy.

Mrs. Smith was a resident of Methuen, Mass., for 40 years before moving to York in 1993.

Born and educated in Lawrence, Mass., she was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1942, Boston University, 1944, and Salem State Teachers College in 1969.

She was a teacher in the Methuen school system for more than 20 years, until her retirement in 1988.

She was an attendant of St. Monica's Church in Methuen for many years before moving to Maine.

She was a member of the Methuen Retired Teachers Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband, James Smith of York; children Kevin J. and his wife, Elizabeth O'Donnell of Hampton Falls, N.H., Kathleen M. O'Donnell of Lowell, Mass., Brian F. and his wife, Olga O'Donnell of Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters Anne Marie Poole of Maryland, Sandra Pauta of Haverhill, Mass.; one granddaughter, Molly O'Donnell of Hampton Falls, N.H. Widow of the late John J. O'Donnell and mother of the late John M. O'Donnell and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Monica's Church, Methuen, with burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence. Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 p.m., and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen. Memorial contributions may be made to The Society for PSP Inc., 1838 Green Tree Road, Suite 515, Baltimore, MD 21209.

Anthony P. Henry

Anthony P. Henry, 94, of Roaring Rock Point Road, York Harbor, and husband of Florence Henry, died Jan. 10, 2002, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born Dec. 10, 1907, in Easton, Pa., the son of Paul and Caroline (Periog) Henry. He was a graduate of Pace Institute in New York City.

While in college he won many awards as a runner in track and field competitions. He served in the National Guard in New York.

For 39 years, Mr. Henry worked for the American Can Co., Park Ave., New York, N.Y., and Greenwich, Conn., retiring in 1970 as an accounting supervisor.

He was a communicator of St. Christopher Church in York. he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Stamford, Conn. He enjoyed gardening and loved baseball. He had played in the New York City Minor Leagues.

Mr. Henry was the last survivor of a family of seven children, being predeceased by five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Florence B. Henry of York Harbor; two daughters, Carol Ann and her husband, Terry Powley of Mantua, N.J., and Paulette and her husband, Brian Chernack of York Harbor; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Powley of Madison, N.J., Paul Powley of Cherry Hill, N.J., William Powley of Kittery, Loren McCabe of Canterbury, N.H., and Cassandra Chernack of Kittery; two great-grandchildren, Colin and Claire McCabe, both of Canterbury, N.H.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday in St. Christopher Church, York, with Interment in First Parish Cemetery, York. Arrangements by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.

Robert W. Huntley

Robert W. Huntley, 62, of 9 Jeffrey Drive, York, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston after a long illness.

He was born on Oct. 12, 1939, in Grand Manan, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Vance and Lottie (Bishop) Huntley. He was a 1958 graduate of Shead Memorial High School in Eastport, and received a bachelor of business administration in 1962 from Hudson College, Bangor.

Mr. Huntley began his career at Kemper Insurance and Continental Insurance in Boston. He later was employed for General Reinsurance Corporation and later served as president of Folksamerica Reinsurance Company of New York, from 1980 to 1984. Most recently he served as an executive with American International Group of New York City.

Mr. Huntley had resided in Morganville, N.J. for 27 years, moving to York in October, 2000.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and was an avid gardener.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years. Mary-Jean (Forsyth) Huntley of York; one son, Mark R. Huntley of Glen Allen, Va.; two daughters, Heather A. Flyge of Robbinsville, N.J., and Melissa M. Stinson of Chester, N.H.; eight grandchildren, Maxwell, Chadwick and Lexington Huntley, Harrison, Hadley and Sydney Flyge, and Hayden and Walker Stinson; one brother, Albion Huntley of South Portland; three sisters, Joyce Tatton of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Jacqueline Cowie of Kingston, Nova Scotia, and Janet Ingersoll of Grand Manan, Canada.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. in First Parish Church, York Street, York. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the York Public Library Building Campaign, Attn. Children's Area. c/o Mrs. John Stanton, P.O. Box 444, York, ME 03909. Arrangements by the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.

George K. Donnell

George K. Donnell, 76, of 110 Scituate Road, York, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at York Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 30, 1925 in York, the son of Raymond and Blanche (Rowe) Donnell. He was a 1943 graduate of York High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Donnell worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Public Works Department as an electrician and planner and estimator in Shop 07.

He was a member of the Second Christian Congregational Church of Kittery and a member of Naval Masonic Lodge of Kittery. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Donnell was predeceased by his wife, Janet (MacKenzie) Donnell who died in 1993 and by his brother, Robert Donnell.

Survivors include one son, Charles W. Donnell and his wife Nadine of York; one daughter, Laura J. Donnell and her husband, Kevin Ouellette of Rye, N.H.; one brother, Richard Brooks of York Beach; four grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Second Christian Congregational Church, 33 Government St., Kittery. Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Masonic services by the Naval Lodge will be held Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, 128 Sewall St., Augusta, ME 04330.

Ellsworth 'Al' C. Cole

Ellsworth "Al" C. Cole of York died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002 at York Hospital after a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Mobilia) Cole; his children Cristiana, Katrina, Erik, Jeffrey and Christopher Cole; his mother, M. Judith Cole Rupnow of Kittery.

He was predeceased by his father, Elmer E. Cole.

Private services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Portland, Maine Chapter, P.O. Box 426, Westbrook, ME 04092.

Howard West Reynolds

Howard West Reynolds of Lake Helen, Fla., formerly of York, passed away after a long illness on Dec. 23, 2001.

He was born June 5, 1919 in Methuen, Mass., son of Charles and Edna Worsman Reynolds. He graduated from Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen, and received his doctor of chiropractic degree from Lincoln College of Chiropractic in Indiana.

He served in the Army in World War II and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge, he pursued his passion for art and music. An accomplished saxophonist, he was in the Army band and continued playing in various bands throughout his life. He was a designer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring after 30 years.

He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Helen Hoh Reynolds, an infant son, Robert, and Nell Reynolds, his second wife.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Turnbaugh and her husband, Michael, of Glens Falls, N.Y., and Judith Blanchard and her husband, Kirk, of Newtown, Conn.; six loving grandchildren: Ryan Turnbaugh, Michelle Turnbaugh, Tristan Blanchard, Joseph Blanchard, Whitney Blanchard and Quincey Blanchard.

A family memorial service will be held in York in the spring. Contributions in Mr. Reynolds' memory can be made to the First Parish Congregational Church, York.
