Eric S. Raynor

YORK - Eric S. Raynor, 23, of 89 Cider Hill Road, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at York Hospital after an accidental drowning in York Harbor.

He was born on Sept. 26, 1981, in Portsmouth, N.H. He completed his adult education general equivalency diploma, graduating in 2004.

Eric had worked in the Environmental Services and Housekeeping Department of York Hospital for the past year. Previously, he had been manager of the Auto Spa on Route 1 in York.

Eric enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, skiing and four-wheeling on his ATV.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Tom R. and Janice (Sticklor) Raynor of York; his mother, Kimberly (Courage) Williamson of Massachusetts; his longtime girlfriend, Whitney Carmichael of York; two brothers, Jason D. Raynor of Salem, Mass., and Nathan R. Raynor of York; two sisters, Heather M. Raynor of Gray, and Rebecca A. Raynor of York; his paternal grandparents, Harold and Edith Raynor of Gorham; maternal grandparents, Donald and Patricia Courage of Florida; and his maternal step-grandparents, Victor and Agnes Sticklor of Woburn, Mass.; two aunts and two uncles.

A celebration of Eric’s life was held Sunday, June 26, in the First Parish Congregational Church of York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Eric’s memory to the Epilepsy Foundation, 4351 Garden City Drive, Landover, Md., 20785-7223. Arrangements by the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home of York.

Louise B. Schiller

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Louise B. Schiller died on Monday, May 16, 2005, in Huntington Beach, Calif. She was 67 years old.

Although Louise’s life was cut short, it was a life filled with family, friends and a successful career. She split her time between her two homes in Maine and in California. She loved her cottage at Long Sands Beach, which has been in her family for 60-plus years. The cottage originally belonged to Helen C. Byrne, known affectionately as Nana Byrne. She spent her vacations and summers at the cottage with her nana and worked at The Marshall House.

She grew up in Belmont, Mass., attended St. Mary’s High School, graduated from Framingham State in 1957 and moved west to California.

Later she met and married Richard Schiller and they had three boys. Rich and Louise divorced, she returned to school and began a fulfilling career in education. Louise held various positions ranging from teaching, grant writing, facilitating and reading specialist. Although she formally retired in 1996, she continued to take part-time assignments when in California. Here in York, she volunteered at both Coastal Ridge and Village elementary schools.

Louise took up painting in the last few years. She thoroughly enjoyed it and she was proud to share her artwork. Her sons, Phillip, Michael and Duke, survive Louise. Other survivors include her daughter-in-law Colleen, her grandchildren, Sophia, Alicia and Jenessa; two brothers, Richard and Stephen, and many relatives. Her mother, Emma Kramer Byrne, and father, Leonard Byrne, predeceased her.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on July 8, at the Star of the Sea Church in York Beach. This Mass will honor the life of a truly kind, caring, loving woman who will be missed by all of the people she touched.

Thomas A. Fratus Jr.

WINDHAM, N.H. - Thomas A. Fratus Jr., 67, a resident of Windham, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, N.H., after a three-month battle with lung cancer.

Mr. Fratus was the husband of Rita A. (Bazin) Fratus. They celebrated their 48th anniversary on July 29, 2005.

He was born in Malden, Mass., on Jan. 30, 1938, son of the late Thomas A. Fratus and Francesca (Calcagno) Fratus. He was educated in Saugus, Mass., and Indiana schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at the Limestone Air Base in Fort Fairfield, Maine. After his discharge from service, Tom moved back to southern New Hampshire and began a long, active career with Andover Savings Bank in Methuen, Mass. He was a graduate of the Institute of Banking and Finance at Fairfield University, Fairfield, Conn.

Before his retirement in 1993, Mr. Fratus was an active member of the Methuen, Mass. Board of Trade, the Merrimack Valley Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and the Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce. During his retirement he was a dedicated racquetball player and member of the Salem Athletic Club, an avid hunter and member of the National Rifle Association, and a knowledgeable gardener.

In addition to his wife, survivors include daughters, Monica L. Fratus of Raymond, N.H., Laura A. Rainone and son-in-law, John J. Rainone of Cape Neddick, Alison F. Weber and son-in-law, David J. Weber of Seminole, Fla.; son, Allan T. Fratus of Hampstead, N.H.; four grandchildren, Adam, Christopher, Julianne and Tyler; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons, Scott Fratus and Thomas Fratus.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Windham Firefighters Association, 3 Fellows Road, Windham, N.H., 03087.

William F. Trelegan

OGUNQUIT - William F. Trelegan, 83, of 158 Ross Road, Kennebunk, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at the Kennebunk Nursing Center after a long illness.

He was born in Cambridge, Mass., the son of William and Yvonne (Mailhot) Trelegan and was a graduate of St. John’s Catholic High School of Cambridge. He had served in the Pacific Theatre in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He had worked as a printer at an envelope manufacturing company in Boston for many years.

Mr. Trelegan had resided in Medford, Mass., for many years moving to Littlefield’s Village in Ogunquit during the late 1980s.

He enjoyed golf and was a member of the Cape Neddick Country Club and was an avid bowler. Mr. and Mrs. Trelegan would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 4.

Survivors include his wife, Doris A. (Hamel) Trelegan of Kennebunk; one son, Peter R. Trelegan of London, Ky.; three daughters, Patricia Breau and husband, Roger, of Malden, Mass., Susan Cersasoula and husband, Tony, of Medford, Mass., and Paulette Karchenes and husband, Peter O’Connor, of Cape Neddick; one sister, Phyllis Higgins of Rockland, Mass.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was held Monday in St. Christopher’s Church. Arrangements by Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York.

Corrine M. DellaPasqua

YORK HARBOR - Corrine M. DellaPasqua, 69, of Roaring Rock Road died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at York Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Boston, Mass., on Sept. 14, 1935, the daughter of Louis and Margaret (O’Brien) Gordon.

Corrine was a social butterfly and enjoyed being with people. She could be seen every day at the local coffee shops and bakeries talking with her many friends.

Survivors include her husband, Arrigo "Rico" DellaPasqua of York; daughter, Sharlene M. Foley and her husband, Steve of Franklin, Mass.; a son, Mark J. DellaPasqua and his wife, Lynn of York; and three grandchildren, Jake, Kristen and Michelle.

Visiting hours were held Friday, July 1, at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, July 2, in St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church, York Street, York.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, N.E. Division, 30 Speen St., Framingham, Mass., 01701.

Gerald E. Collins

YORK - Gerald E. Collins - the fellow who has walked miles and miles in the Scotland Bridge area of York; who has waved as you drove by; who has chatted wherever he met you - passed on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, to his new life after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Gerry was born on Sept. 25, 1942, in Torrington, Conn., to Gertrude M. and William C. Collins. He graduated in 1964 from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vt. As a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, he served our country as a radar navigator on a B-52 on more than 100 missions during the Vietnam War, taught navigation, and retired as a major in 1985 in the Air Force Planning Division at Loring Air Force Base in Presque Isle, Maine.

Since then, he has made his home in the Scotland Bridge Road area, endearing himself to everyone. The staff at York Oncology where he was treated for two years, welcomed his upbeat presence.

His greatest pleasure was exploring this country’s and Canada’s natural beauty with family and friends in his self-contained camper. There he also indulged his daily passion for crossword puzzles.

The less fortunate have been leavened and enriched while he was a lower Maine Salvation Army liaison. He was a Big Brother while stationed in California. He has mentored young airmen on a personal and professional level. Places that serve the poor benefited from his successful avocation, clipping and redeeming coupons, rebates and bargains - all items gathered making their way to those who needed them.

Gerry was loved, admired and appreciated by his siblings: sister Jeanne Arnone of North Haven, Conn., and her husband, John ("Bud" to Gerry); brothers William (Bill) of Hamden, Conn., and his wife, Carol, and Francis (Fran) of Providence, R.I. Fran was Gerry’s best friend and traveling buddy. Gerry is also survived by "faithful companion" and dear friend Dorothy (Dot) Morton and close friend Carol Morrison, both of Providence, R.I.

He is treasured by his nieces, Marie Kurmin and Kathleen Woodward; his nephews, Jay and Dennis Arnone, and Bill and Mike Collins. He has 10 grandnieces and six grandnephews.

Gerry’s family welcomed your presence at the funeral that took place at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine, on Saturday, July 2, 2005. The burial took place in Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, 152 Holden Street, Providence, R.I., 02908 or American Cancer Society, NE Division, 30 Speen St. Framingham, Mass., 01701.

Richard Anthony LaFrance

YORK - Richard Anthony LaFrance, 67, husband of Adele M. (Murphy) LaFrance, died Monday, July 4, 2005, in York.

He was born in Boston, Mass., on Feb. 21, 1938, the son of Armand J. and Emma B. (Chouinard) LaFrance and graduated from Arlington (Mass.) High School.

Rich served his country as a member of the Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.

Rich was a business entrepreneur. After moving to Maine in 1990, he established Mainely Flags in York in 1993; in Kittery in 1994 and Portsmouth, N.H., in 1995.

Always very concerned about the need of the people around him, he was there to help others whenever a helping hand was needed.

Rich was predeceased by his grandson, Justin Ronchetti, who died in 2001. Survivors include his wife, Adele Marie (Murphy) LaFrance of York; three daughters, Signe B. LaFrance and her husband, Brian Cone of York, Michelle M. and her husband, Wayne Ronchetti of Pepperell, Mass., and Lise J. LaFrance and her husband, Greg Melone of Groton, Mass.; and three grandchildren, Francesca Cone, Kyle Cone and Sophia Ronchetti

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, in St. Christopher Church, York Street, in York. Interment in First Parish Cemetery, York. There are no visiting hours. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St. Framingham, Mass., 01701. Arrangements by Lucas and Eaton, York.

Elvis Reed

YORK - Elvis Reed, 86, husband of Elida Mae (Giggie) Reed of Beech Ridge Road, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at York Hospital.

He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Saltillo, Tenn., the son of Nev and Rosa (Clausel) Hendon and attended local schools.

While in the Air Force during World War II, he was transferred from Mississippi to the Presque Isle Air Force Base. He met and married a young local woman, Elida Giggie. They have been married for 61 years. After his service discharge in November 1945, Elvis worked as a trailer truck driver until 1965 when they moved to Kittery.

He was employed as a carpenter for area construction companies working on the building of the Kittery Trading Post and a local trailer park.

Elvis moved to York Harbor and became a private caretaker for two families for 30 years before moving to Beech Ridge Road.

He attended the York Street Baptist Church.

Members of his family include his wife, Elida (Giggie) Reed of York; a son, Timothy D. and his wife, Carol Reed of York Harbor; daughters, Sarah Ann Garger of Dover Point, N.H., and Susan Shakleton of Somersworth, N.H.; three brothers, Hollis Davison of Colorado, Luther Davison of Texas, and Dewey Davison of Arkansas; sister-in-law, Phyllis Giggie of Presque Isle; six grandchildren, Joseph Garger, Maryann Garger, Christopher Tufts, Gabriel Shakelton, Charles William Shakelton and Dalelyn Reed; great-granddaughter, Nicky Rose Fletcher, and several nieces and nephews in Tennesee. Elvis also leaves many wonderful friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 5, in the York Street Baptist Church. Interment was in the First Parish Cemetery, York. There were no visiting hours. Arrangements by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.

Angelo T. Manzi

YORK - Angelo T. Manzi, 91, formerly of New Boston Road, died Saturday, July 9, 2005, at Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth, N.H.

He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on Jan. 1, 1914, the son of Joseph and Lucy (Lanotti) Manzi. He was within shouting distance of Yankee stadium. He was a graduate of Annunciation Parochial School in Manhattan.

Angelo built his own house in Greenville, N.Y., and had lived there for 50 years with Florence, before moving to York in 1999 to be closer to his sons.

He enjoyed fishing and, when he was younger, was an avid baseball player and a fan until the last inning.

Angelo served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930s. He worked as a mechanic for 30 years for Bob Martin Foreign Auto, Capitol Buick and Yoeman’s Garage. He retired as supervisor of the service and auto body department of Orange Motors in Albany in 1981.

He was predeceased by his wife, Florence (Schnackberg) Manzi who died in October 2004, and by a son, Joseph John Manzi who died in 1987.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Debora Manzi of Cape Neddick and Thomas and Suzanne Manzi of York. Five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be private. Arrangements by the Lucas & Eaton F. H. of York.

James J. McGuire

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - James J. McGuire, 69, husband of Nancy (Sachok) McGuire and formerly of New Britain, died Saturday, July 9, 2005, at New Britain General Hospital following a brief illness.

Jim was born in New Britain, Conn., on Sept. 19, 1935, and was the son of the late James and Julia McGuire. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force. Jim was a police officer for many years in New Britain and Farmington. He was also the owner of McGuire Insurance Services in southern Maine.

Besides his wife, Jim is survived by two sons, James P. and his wife, Betty McGuire of Bristol, Conn.; Daniel and his wife, Jeanne McGuire of Shrewsbury, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Danny and Melissa McGuire. He was predeceased by a sister, Rosemary McGuire.

McGuire - Funeral rites will be held, Wednesday, July 13, 2005, with the procession departing at 9 a.m. from the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Ave., New Britain, Conn., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Britain, Conn.
