Mrs. Hazel L. Allen
2000-01-13

SOUTHPARIS - Hazel L. Allen, 95, of North Waterford died Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at the Market Square Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Bel Isle, Canada on August 13, 1904, the daughter of Charles and Irene Ganong Oneall.

She graduated high school in Bel Isle and attended college studying physical therapy in Boston, MA.

She married Albert Allen in 1923 and he predeceased her in 1966.

Mrs. Allen worked as a nurse for many years in private duty before opening the Open Door Nursing Home in North Waterford in 1955. She ran the nursing home until she retired in 1973.

She was an active member of the Jehovah's Witness Church in Norway.

She is survived by six daughters, Dorothy MacDonald of North Waterford, Evelyn McAulff of Marlboro, MA, Merle McAllister of North Waterford, Margaret McAllister of North Waterford, Irene Trimback of South Paris, and Ruthie Swett of North Waterford; a son, Albert Allen of North Waterford; 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, a son, Stanley and a daughter, Phyllis.

Visiting hours were held on Thursday, January 6, at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris. Funeral services were held Friday, January 7 in the funeral home with Rev. Norman Rust officiating.

Interment will be in the spring at the Woodlawn cemetery in N. Waterford.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Stoneham Rescue, P.O. Box 42, East Stoneham, ME 04231.

Weston E. Alley
1998-05-28

Weston E. Alley, 89, of East Boothbay died Monday, May 25 at Amenity Manor in Topsham.

Born December 23, 1908 in East Boothbay, he was the son of Melvin and Ada Farnham Alley. He attended local schools in East Boothbay.

Mr. Alley worked as a machinist at Sample's Shipyard during World War II and several other shipyards in the area before retiring in 1973.

He was a member of Bayview Masonic Lodge and made half boat models as a hobby.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Thomas Alley of East Boothbay; two sons, Stephen E. Alley and David W. Alley, both of East Boothbay; four grandchildren, Michael S. Alley and Daniel E. Alley, both of East Boothbay, Susan A. Haines of Falmouth, and Christopher D. Alley of Boston, Mass.; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 at Oceanview cemetery in Boothbay. The Rev. Allan Wells-Goodwin will officiate.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the East Boothbay United Methodist Church or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Simmons & Harrington Funeral Home, Boothbay Harbor.

Mr. Harold Allmon

WEST PALM BEACH, FL -Harold Allmon, 64, of West Palm Beach, FL, passed away on July 13 at his home after a short illness.

He was born in Mt. Pleasant, NC, the son of Hubert T. and Annie Mae Weaver Allmon, and married Marie Morin, formerly of Norway, on March 14, 1959.

He and his wife lived in Norway in the early 1960s, and he was employed by C.B. Cummings and Sons.

They resided in West Palm Beach, FL, where he was a carpenter until 1995. Then he took over maintenance at Pine Lake Camp Resort where they resided.

Mr. Allmon was the loving father of Pamela Ann Molloy (Joseph), Desira Jean Morner, Donna Blackman, Harold Jr. (Brenda), Melissa Lynn Greenlee (Victor), Holly Marie Davis (Jeff), and was predeceased by a son, Joseph Patrick (Pat).

He leaves to cherish his memory 24 grandchildren, one great-grandson, several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law, Sylvia Morin, two loving sisters-in-law, Judith Morin and Cindy Swallow (Pete), and a sister Betsy Abernathy.

He had a heart as big as gold and will be missed by everyone who ever knew him.

Services were held on Saturday, July 15, with Interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Alton I. Ames
1999-06-17

Alton I. Ames, age 73, of Wiscasset, died Monday, June 14 at Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta.

Mr. Ames was born in Burnham, Maine on August 17, 1925, and moved to Vanceboro.

He entered the United States Marines during World War II, and worked at Bath Iron Works as an electrician for many years, retiring in 1983.

He married Erma Glew.

Mr. Ames was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset and the American Legion of Wiscasset. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Erma F. Ames of Wiscasset; two sons, John Ames and his wife Priscilla of Wiscasset and Brian Ames of Wiscasset; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A service was held on Wednesday, June 16 at Maine Veterans' cemetery Chapel in Augusta with Rev. Peg Grzelkowski officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Veterans' Home, Cony Road, RR #7, Box 901, Augusta, ME 04330. Arrangements were by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset.

Helen R. Amirault

Helen R. Amirault

Helen R. Amirault, 88, of Westport Island, died Thursday, September 7 at the Plant Memorial Home in Bath.

Born in Pokemouche, New Brunswick, Canada on February 1, 1912 she attended Pokemouche schools. She married Deserie Amirault and made her home in Bath.

After the death of her husband in 1982, she moved to West Bath and later to Westport Island.

Mrs. Amirault was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bath and a member of Our Ladies Sodality.

She was predeceased by her husband and by one son, Mark Amirault, in 1964.

Survivors include three sons, Carl S. Amirault of Wiscasset, Neal E. Amirault of Georgetown and Raye J. Amirault of Westport Island; two daughters, Anne A. Hastings of Portland, and Ruth H. Amirault of Wakefield, R.I.; one brother, Stillman Robichaud of Pokemouche, New Brunswick, Canada; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, September 11 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bath. Burial followed in Calvary cemetery in Bath.

Arrangements were by the Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home in Bath.

Mrs. Etta L. Amnott
1998-07-30

NORWAY - Mrs. Etta L. Amnott, 89, died Saturday, July 25, 1998 at Stephens Memorial Hospital. She resided with her niece, Mrs. Evangeline Polland, at 98 High Street in South Paris and had lived there for the past nine years and was formerly of Bangor for many years.

She was born in Paris, Maine on December 19, 1908, the daughter of Walter and Annie (Leavitt) Knightly. She grew up on a farm on Cobble Hill in South Paris. She graduated from Paris High School and also from New England School of Theology. As a child she attended many Hymn Sings and Prayer meetings.

On June 19, 1934, she married the late Rev. Maurice Amnott, who died June 29, 1989.

Survivors include one brother, Sherwood Knightly of Norway and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ellen Stockford, of South Paris and four brothers, Guy Knightly and Arthur Knightly, both of Norway, Ralph Knightly of South Paris and Elmer Knightly of Auburn.

The funeral was held July 21 at the Meader and Son Funeral Home in Norway. Interment was in the Ashland Municipal Cemetery, Ashland, ME.

Those who desire may contribute to either the Development Fund of the Bangor Advent Christian Church, Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401; or to the Oxford Advent Christian Church, Route 26, Oxford, ME 04270 in her memory.

Alan B. Anderson
1998-06-18

Alan B. Anderson, 45, of Westport died Sunday, June 14 at his home.

Born in Damariscotta on July 30, 1952, he was the son of Martin and Virginia Cromwell Anderson.

He attended Westport and Wiscasset schools and graduated from the University of Hawaii. On November 24, 1971 he married Cheryl Paul.

Mr. Anderson entered the U.S. Army in March of 1972 and was discharged as an SP 5 who specialized in repairing automatic pilot and stabilization features on helicopters. After being discharged they moved to Westport Island.

Mr. Anderson worked for Hanley Construction in Bristol as a heavy equipment construction operator.

On March 6, 1986 he became chief of the Westport Island Fire Department. Over the years Mr. Anderson developed many valued friendships with fellow firefighters and Westport town officials.

He was also a member of the Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church.

Surviving besides his wife, are his parents and a daughter, Sue Ann May Anderson, all of Westport Island.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. from the Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church with the Pastor Stephen Daniels officiating and will continue at the Westport Fire Station.

Private burial will occur at the Paul Family Burial Ground in Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Westport Island Fire Department, 664 Main Road, Westport, ME 04578 or to the Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church, 15 Fellowship Drive, Woolwich, ME 04579. Arrangements are by the Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Darlene R. Anderson
1999-09-02

Darlene R. Anderson, 44, of Jefferson, died Wednesday, August 25 at her residence.

Born in Damariscotta on November 18, 1954, she was the daughter of George W. and Gertrude M. (Lincoln) Stickney.

She graduated from Wiscasset High School, and for several years, worked as a clerk for Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Kennebec Court Systems. In 1994 she moved to Jefferson from Westport Island.

Survivors include her father, George W. Stickney Jr. of Jefferson; two daughters, Michelle Chartier of Westport Island, and Marsha Appleyard of Linwood, New Jersey; two sons, Chuck Chartier of Boothbay and Amos Chartier of Jefferson; one brother, George W. Stickney III of Whitefield; one sister, Bertha ``Bee Bee" Naylor of South Bristol, four grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

A graveside service was held on Monday, August 30 at Highland cemetery in Jefferson.

Arrangements were by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home of Wiscasset.

Ruth M. Anderson
2000-09-14

Ruth M. Anderson

Ruth M. Anderson, 87, of Edgecomb, died Sunday, September 10 at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta.

Born in New Sweden, she was a daughter of Fred H. and Edith M. Pearson Jacobson, and graduated from Caribou High School.

Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker living in Edgecomb for more than 34 years.

She enjoyed gardening.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles H. Anderson; a granddaughter, Tracy L. Moskyok in January of this year; one brother, Rudolph Jacobson; and one sister, Alice Johnson.

Surviving are two daughters, Greta L. Anderson of Edgecomb and Carole A. Shepard of Dunlevy, Penn., and six grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 13 at the Mayo and Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset, with Fred Kelley officiating. Burial was in Union cemetery in Edgecomb.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, P.O. Box 64, Newcastle, ME 04553.
