Billie Ann Reed

Billie Ann Reed of Edgecomb died at Maine Medical Center in Portland on January 1, 2001. She grew up and was raised in Kosciusko, Miss. She was a graduate of Kosciusko High School and Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

A devoted elementary school teacher for 38 years, her career included teaching in Gulfport, Miss., France, New Foundland (Corner Brook), New Orleans and Sidell, La. Mrs. Reed taught locally in East Boothbay and at the Boothbay Region Elementary School for 19 years, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of the Maine State Teachers Association and the National Education Association.

Billie Ann had a great love of family, teaching and of her colleagues and friends. She enjoyed her gardens, rock walls, and decorating her home and dining out.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert N. Reed of Edgecomb; one daughter, Amy Rochelle Reed, of Lanham, Md.; one sister, Mary Frances Allen, of Kosciusko, Miss.; and one nephew, Christopher Allen, of Kosciusko, Miss.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made in her memory to the Boothbay Region Elementary School - Billie Ann Reed Memorial Fund, 238 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Emma Frisbie

Emma Louise Norton Hall Frisbie, 86, of Wiscasset, died Sunday, December 31 at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath,

She was born in Bath on January 23, 1914, the daughter of Nathaniel Edwin and Emma E. (Southard) Norton.

She graduated from Harding High School in Bridgeport, Conn. She was employed as a nanny from 1932 to 1935. She was then employed as a personal assistant to the Alderman Family in South Hadley, Mass. On November 21, 1939, she married John Albert Hall.

She was employed for 20 years as a medical assistant to Dr. William Goldkowski in Holyoke, Mass. For 10 years she was employed as a health care worker at the Holyoke, Falls and Buckley Nursing Homes in Holyoke and South Hadley, Mass. On November 21, 1970, she married Earle Teeple Frisbie and returned to Wiscasset, Maine in 1982.

She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and the Huntoon Hill Grange, both in Wiscasset.

She is survived by her husband, Earle T. Frisbie of Wiscasset; three sons, David N. Hall of Westboro, Mass., Rev. Dr. Richard H. Hall of Wiscasset and Douglas A. Hall of Wiscasset; three step sisters, Priscilla (Norton) Benedict of Florida, Norma (Norton) Pontz of Florida and Natalie (Norton) Tierney of Conn.; several grandchildren, Andrea Hall, James Hall, Matthew Hall, Sarah Hall, Julie Belbin, Maureen Gatti, and Susan Walsh; two great-grandsons, David Belbin and Peter Belbin; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.on Friday, January 5, at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 6 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Hodge Street, Wiscasset, with Rev. John P. Miller officiating. Spring Interment will be held in Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Philip's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 316, Wiscasset, 04578.

Leona K. Stetson

Leona K. Stetson, 88, of Wiscasset, died December 30, 2000, at Winship Green Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was born in Fairhaven, Mass., a daughter of Leon and Daisy Whittaker Kelly. She graduated from Fairhaven High School and studied at the Lady Chamberlain School of Art in Boston for a year.

She married George A. Stetson of Fairhaven. They lived throughout New England in the 17 years her husband worked for the T.W. Woolworth Co. In 1949 the family moved to Wiscasset.

Mrs. Stetson studied art under several local artists, and had her work displayed in the Farnsworth Art Museum and other museums.

Mrs. Stetson was called into the ministry in the 1960s. She became a lay preacher in the former United Church of Christ, Congregational, now the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, and at other churches as an interim minister. She was pastor of the Old South Church in Belgrade.

She worked in the healing ministry for the Order of St. Luke, based in Portland, conducting services at Woodfords Congregational Church and at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Wiscasset. Mrs. Stetson did weekly sermons on local radio stations.

Mrs. Stetson organized prayer groups in her home. This led to the "Encircling Arms Chapel," where she conducted prayer meetings until her retirement in the early 1990s.

Mrs. Stetson was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset.

A son, Bancroft Stetson, died previously.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Marcia Snow of West Bath; three sons, David of Alna, George III of Bullhead City, Ariz., and James of Edgecomb; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great- grandson.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset with the Rev. Stanley Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset in the spring.

Earl Carlisle

Earl Carlisle, 78, of Bath, died Thursday, December 28, 2000 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born in Dresden on May 8, 1922, the son of James and Lula (Moody) Carlisle.

He attended Dresden schools and married Rose Nickerson. In 1948 he moved to Bath and was employed at Bath Iron Works for 35 years, retiring in 1984 as a tool keeper.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #103 in Dresden, an honorary member of the Polar Star Lodge of Masons in Bath, and of the Masonic Lodge in Wiscasset. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows in Bath.

He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Carlisle, on December 31, 1983; one brother, Harry Carlisle; two sisters, Susie Lilly in 1988 and Jessie Skillin on September 12, 2000.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Florence E. Seigers of Bath; on step daughter, Barbara A. Ruby of Thopsham; two grandsons, Norman G. Goben Jr. of Manhattan, N.Y. and Roland G. Goben of Richmond; one great-granddaughter, Christal Stroud of Turner; one great- great-granddaughter, Taylor Stroud of Turner; and one nephew, Carroll E. Skillin of Wiscasset.

Visiting hours were Friday, December 29 at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street in Bath. A Masonic Funeral Service was held on Saturday, December 30. Spring burial will be held at Oak Grove cemetery in Bath. Memorial contributions may be made to the Odd Fellows, 488 Washington Street, Bath.

Agatha Lennot Hatch

Agatha Lennot Hatch, 93, of Damariscotta, passed away on the morning of July 6 at her residence at Hodgdon Green.

Born in Bath on March 29, 1908, she was the daughter of George A. and Margaret (Grant) Lennox.

In 1926 she graduated from Morse High School and in 1928 from the former Gorham Normal School. Later, she did graduate work at the University of Maine in Orono.

Mrs. Hatch was a member of the Corlis Street Baptist Church in Bath where she was the treasurer for 15 years. She also belonged to the National Retired Teachers Association, the Bodwell Grange, and for over 30 years she was a member of the Eastern Star in Bath.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth L. Hatch Sr.

Survivors include two stepsons, Kenneth L. Hatch Jr. of North Whitefield, and Howard L. Hatch of Orange City, Florida; and one sister, Eleanor Plant of Wiscasset.

A graveside service was held at the Oak Grove cemetery in Bath on Tuesday, July 10 at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta.

Ernest Carlton James

Ernest Carlton James, 98, of Wiscasset, died Friday, July 6 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

Born in Dresden on October 25, 1911, he was the son of Melvin Carlton and Grace Ida (Thomas) James.

On November 15, 1931 he married Melva Gertrude Bixby and they lived in Dresden until moving to Wiscasset in 1953.

Prior to World War II, Mr. James worked at the Worsted Mill in Richmond. He worked at the Bath Iron Works during World War II and after the war he began digging worms and continued to do so until 1999. Over the years, in addition to digging worms along with his wife Melva, he fished for eels and ran his farm in Dresden. He also rented out smelt camps on the Eastern River. He worked in the woods most of his life, cutting and selling lumber, pulp and firewood. He loved to work and if he was not on the mud flats, you would most likely find him working on his woodpile.

Mr. James loved to spend time with his family, his cats, play cribbage and enjoyed striking up a conversation with anyone who would listen.

Survivors include his wife, Melva G. James of Wiscasset; four sons, Ernest "Ed" Edward James of Inverness, Fla., Wilmer "Bill" James and Kevin James, both of Wiscasset, and George James of Dresden; four daughters, Iona Pinkham of Woolwich, Frances Cray of Richmond, Mamie Chapman of Dresden and Valerie Hinkley of Wiscasset; 59 grandchildren; 131 great-grandchild-ren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sons, Franklin James in 1991 and Charles James in 1988; two brothers, Tom James and Jesse James; and one sister, Iona James.

Visiting hours were held Tuesday, July 10 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset. A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 11 at the Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church in Woolwich. Burial followed in Forest Hill cemetery in Dresden.

George "Glen" Lewis

George "Glen" Lewis, 82, of Wiscasset died Sunday, July 8, at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.

Born in Boothbay Harbor, he was the son of Frank and Arletta (Barter) Lewis. He attended Boothbay Harbor schools and was employed at Sample's Shipyard.

In 1941 he entered the United States Army. He moved to Bristol, Conn. and was employed at New Departure, Bristol Brass, Pratt and Whitney, and Electric Boat, all in Connecticut. In 1953 he moved back to Wiscasset and was again employed at Sample's Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor. He was employed by Stone & Webster who built Maine Yankee in Wiscasset. In the 1970s he was employed at Bath Iron Works as a shipfitter.

On September 6, 1953, he married Elinor M. Sproul.

Mr. Lewis was a member of the Odd Fellows #71 IOOF in Wiscasset, the Lady Arambec Rebekahs, the Huntoon Hill Grange in Wiscasset, the Maine State Grange and the National Grange. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, woodworking and carpentry.

Survivors include his wife, Elinor M. Lewis; one son, Glenn M. Lewis; and one daughter, Janet M. Fairfield and her husband Gary, all of Wiscasset; two brothers, Llewellyn Lewis of Togus and Douglas Lewis of Casco; two sisters, Evelyn J. Mason of Lewiston, and Dorothy Alice Lewis of Boothbay Harbor; two grandchildren, Shaun Fairfield and Kimberly Fairfield, both of Wiscasset; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lewis was predeceased by one brother, Russell Lewis; and one sister, Gwendolyn Gaudette.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 12 at Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, 87 Elm Street, Suite 203, Camden, ME 04843.

Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home of Wiscasset.

Alexander Arthur Cheney

Alexander Arthur Cheney, 12, of Wiscasset, died on Monday, October 3, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Born in Brunswick on December 8, 1992, he was the son of Jennifer Cheney. He attended Wiscasset Schools and was on the Math team. Alex lived with his grandparents, Barry and Shirley Cheney.

He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Wiscasset.

Alex enjoyed playing soccer, baseball, basketball, golf, and he loved astronomy and the Red Sox.

Survivors include his mother, Jennifer Cheney Morgan and her husband Craig of Bath; his grandparents, Barry A. and Shirley Cheney of Wiscasset; one brother, Christopher Brewer, and one sister, Kyleigh Brewer, both of Boothbay; one great-grandfather, Kenneth Rankin of Chelsea; one great-grandmother, Florence McDonald of Farmingdale; several aunts, uncles, cousins and great-aunts and great-uncles.

Alex is predeceased by his great- grandfather, Harold A. Cheney; and his great-grandmother, Muriel Cheney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 6 at the Bible Baptist Church on Route One in Wiscasset with Pastor Glenn West officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest Hill cemetery in Dresden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Children's Cancer Center, Maine Medical Center, 22 Bramhall St. in Portland.

George Leo Angove
1998-11-26

OXFORD - George Leo Angove, Jr., 23, of Oxford, died Friday evening, November 13, 1998, in Oxford as a result of an automobile accident.

George was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on June 28, 1975, the son of George L. Angove Sr. of Lowell and Joyce A. (Norris) Kelleher or Pelham, New Hampshire. He attended Dracut schools and graduated from Lowell schools.

Mr. Angove was self employed as a construction worker in Greater Lowell.

A communicant of St. Michael's Church of Lowell, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Besides his parents, he is survived by two sons, Kevin M. Angove and Brandon R. Angove, both of Lowell; two sisters, Kellie-Gene (Angove) Hunt of Oxford, formerly of Lowell, and Jessica Lynn Angove of Lowell; a brother, Jason Lawrence Angove of Lowell; a grandmother, Joan Norris of Lowell; his step-parents, Christine Angove of Lowell and Donald Kelleher Jr. of Dracut; his fiancee, Nicole K. Lambert of Lowell; his step-grandparents, Donald and Val (Beil) Kelleher of Dracut, Shirley Nana Connelly and Charles Connelly of Lowell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was also the grandson of the late Lawrence and Lillian (O'Neil) Angove.

Donations may be made in his memory for his children, at the Fleet Bank of any branch in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Amy H. Armstrong
1998-08-06

Amy H. Armstrong, 97, died Tuesday, August 4 in Groton, Connecticut.

Born October 25, 1901 in Machias, she was the daughter of John and Martha Davis Hatt. She married Arno F. Armstrong on December 26, 1919 in Machias. Mr. Armstrong died October 10, 1978.

Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong moved from Machias to Boothbay Harbor in 1941. She worked for several years at Campbell Built Products, Boothbay Harbor; was receptionist for the Boothbay Harbor Chamber of Commerce for 17 years; was a member of the Boothbay Harbor Senior Citizens and enjoyed traveling with them on their bus trips. She was an active knitter and crocheted for the First Congregational Church of Christ in Groton, Conn. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Boothbay Harbor.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Orne of Groton, Conn. and Marguerite Adams of Yarmouth, Maine; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild. She was predeceased by two sons, Frederick and Richard Armstrong.

Date and time of graveside service will be announced. Byles Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames in Groton, Conn. is in charge of arrangements.
