Everett L. Basford
1999-02-25

Everett Lemont Basford, 77, Rockland, died Feb. 23 at a Rockport hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Benton, June 30, 1921, he was the son of Ellis Lord and Ina Bell Young Basford. He attended Lincolnville schools and Camden High School, and was also a student at the Dexter School of Cooking.

Mr. Basford served in the Army during World War II and was in active combat overseas. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He married Annie Mae Childes on Nov. 14, 1947, in Rockport. They had one daughter.

He was a composer and a song writer, with recordings under the Rockland Records recording label. He appeared on television and radio broadcasts statewide and was known as "The Northern Gospel Singer". He had ministered with his gospel music in churches throughout the state, was an ordained minister, and served as interim pastor at the Camden Pentecostal Church for many years. Mr. Basford was a singer on WRKD in Rockland weekly on "Gospel Melodies" for many years, which is now known as "Living Waters. In years past, he also held weekly church services at the Lincolnville Center Community Building. He is best known for his recorded songs "Camden by the Sea" and "Maiden's Cliff." He hosted his own radio program on WBME- Belfast. He attended The Family Worship Center in Camden.

Mr. Basford was a carpenter, painter, auto mechanic, and worked as custodian at the Mary E. Taylor School until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement, he and his wife, also a musician, would perform at local nursing homes and retirement centers.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, of Rockland; his daughter, Priscilla A. Basford Harvey and her husband Allen of Camden; four sisters, Valma Basford Sherman and Agnes Basford Underhill, both of Lincolnville, Irene Basford Brookings of Alna, and Angela Basford of Coopers Mills; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Emmanuel Basford.

Visiting hours were from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wed., Feb. 24, at Laite & Pratt Funeral Home, Camden, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thurs., Feb. 25; the Rev. Stephen Cerce will officiate. Burial will follow at Sea View Cemetery, Rockport. A gathering of family and friends will be held following Interment at the home of Priscilla and Allen Harvey, 71 Start Rd., Camden.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to The Family Worship Center, 23 Conway Rd., Camden 04843.

Grace Kennedy Baum
2000-03-23

Grace Kennedy Baum, 95, Rockland, died March 15 at Camden Health Care center after a short illness.

She was born in Union, a daughter of Walter and Lottie Mank Calderwood, and attended local schools.

She was the wife of William F. Kennedy for 62 years until his death in 1983.

Mrs. Baum resided in Waldoboro for 52 years before moving to St. George. She was a member of the Rebekahs in Waldoboro for several years. She also was a member of the Warren Grange and the Homemaker’s Club.

Her second husband, Everett Baum Sr. died in 1996.

Two sons, Arthur and Harold Kennedy, both died previously.

Surviving are two sons, John H. Kennedy of Cumberland Center and Ronald Kennedy of Ballentine, SC; a daughter, Mrs. Everett (Arlene) Baum Jr. of St. George; a sister, Marion Whitney of Damariscotta; and 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and two great-grand children.

A private funeral will be held at Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro.

Ellen E. Beam
1999-05-06

Ellen E. Beam, 77, Rockland, died April 25 at an Augusta hospital.

She was born March 21, 1922, in Owls Head, the daughter of John and Amelia Anderson Hall.

Mrs. Beam was a member of the Finnish Congregational Church of South Thomaston. She enjoyed yard sales and collecting cat memorabilia. She was raised on a farm and loved all animals and attending fairs.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Graves; by three brothers, Edward Hall, Arthur Hall, and Walter Hall; and by a sister, Hilda Hall.

Mrs. Beam is survived by two sons, Kenneth N. Hall Sr. of Chelsea and Gerald E. Graves of Jefferson; a daughter, Sally Vigue of Gardiner; six grandchildren, Kenneth, Amy, Sue, Rose, Nicholas, and Kendra; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; a niece; and several cousins.

A graveside service was held April 29 in Ash Point cemetery in Owls Head; the Rev. Harold Peaslee officiated. Arrangements were by Carpenter Funeral Home, Rockland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland 04841.

Herbert Glen Beamis
1999-12-02

Herbert Glen Beamis, 47, died Nov. 28 in Washington, Me. He was born Jan. 6, 1952 in Plymouth N.H., the son of Harold and Priscilla Cutting Beamis.

He worked for CCM Maska as a plant director for ten years in Bradford, Vt. While working at CCM Maska, he was actively involved in the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He was active in the community and anonymously helped many people everywhere. Herbert had a soft spot for children and the elderly.

His life in recent years revolved around fishing, lobstering and working on his house.

He will be sadly missed for his great sense of humor and his caring spirit. May his demons finally be at peace.

Herbert is predeceased by his father, Harold Beamis (1998).

Herbert is survived by his wife, Debra Beamis of Washington; two daughters, Kelly Ste. Marie and Melissa Beamis, both of Plymouth, Mass.; two sons by his first marriage, Michael Beamis and Christopher Gigeuer, both of Laconia, N.H.; his mother, Priscilla Beamis of Warren, N.H.; one grandson, Austin Owen of Plymouth, Mass.; three sisters, Vicki Beamis and Shirley Beamis of Groton, Vt. and Gayle Beamis of Warren, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

At his request there will be no funeral services. He will be cremated and his ashes tossed to the wind. Arrangements are under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.

Lyle L. Bean
2000-05-25

Lyle L. Bean, 46, of Wiscasset, died Friday, May 19, 2000 at Miles Memorial Hospital.

Born on May 17, 1954 in Damariscotta, he was the son of Frank T., Sr. and Muriel Cunningham Bean. Mr. Bean grew up in Wiscasset and attended local schools. He worked as a dishwasher and maintenance person at many restaurants throughout the mid-coast area, including the Holiday Inn in Bath and Le Garage in Wiscasset. Recently he was employed as a stock clerk at Ames Department Store in Wiscasset.

For over 25 years, Mr. Bean was a member of AA. He loved to go hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He was predeceased by his father, Frank.

Survivors include his mother, Muriel Bean of Wiscasset; a brother, Frank T. Bean of Rushville, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 22 at the Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset. Pastor Glen West will officiate. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Barbara E. Beane
1998-08-20

CANTON - Barbara E. Beane, 90, died Friday, August 14, 1998, at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home, Canton, where she had been a patient.

Born in Buckfield on December 5, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Young) Ricker. She attended Buckfield High School, graduating with the class of 1925. On September 18, 1948 she married Raymond, Beane, who died in 1963.

A resident of Buckfield for most of her life, she was a homemaker and worked for several years at Cummings Dry Cleaners in Auburn. A member of the Buckfield Community Church, she was also a Charter Member of the Good Faith Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by several cousins.

Graveside services were held on Monday, August, 17, at the Buckfield/Damon Cemetery, Buckfield. Those who wish may make donations in Mrs. Beane's memory to the Buckfield Community Church. Arrangements were under the care of the Andrews Funeral Home, Buckfield.

Beatrice L. Zanoni
1998-08-27

Beatrice L. Zanoni, 90, of Norway died Monday, August 24, 1998, at the Coastal Manor in Yarmouth. She was born in Norway on November 23, 1907, the daughter of Archille and Leontine Baribeau Poirier.

She was educated in the Norway school system. She had worked for many years at B. E. Cole shoe company and also at Wilner Wood Products.

Mrs. Zanoni was a member of Saint Catherines of Sienna of Norway and was active in the Church Guild. She loved to knit, sew, and cook and was always reaching out to help others. She enjoyed her trips to California and Michigan.

She had lived in the Norway area all her life. She married Peter J. Zanoni on December 28, 1929 and he died on September 18, 1967. She is survived by two daughters, Theresa Burnes, of Yarmouth, and Lena Leblanc of Portland; a son, Dante of Westland, MI; a brother, Harvey Poirier of Norway; two sisters, Laura Edgerly of Lewiston and Diana Hemingway of Harrison; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Romeo and Arthur; three sisters, Alice Eldridge, Elizabeth Thibeau, and Juliet Myers.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, August 26, at Saint Catherines of Sienna of Norway with Fr. Lawrence Conley as celebrant. Interment was be in the Norway Pine Grove Cemetery, South Paris. Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway was in charge of the arrangements.

Dana K. Beckwith
1999-09-16

Dana Beckwith, 41, of Reed Road, Richmond, died Mon., Sept. 20 at his home. He was born in Gardiner, a son of Walter and Flora Cole Beckwith, and attended Richmond schools. He was a longtime employee of Bath Iron Works. He was a hunter, fisherman and a fan of Richmond athletic events. Surviving are four sons, Bryan or Richmond, Karl and Nathan, both of Bowdoinham, and Justin of Gardiner; seven brothers, Alex of Vassalboro, Thomas of Monmouth, John of Dresden, Dale of Washington state, David and Dean, both of Richmond, and Donald of Somerville; and one sister, Bunny of California. Graveside service 10 a.m. Fri., Sept. 24 in Forest Hills Cemetery, Dresden, with the Rev. Jim Pierson officiating. Arrangements are by Kincer Funeral Home, Richmond.

Dennis Paul Bedard
1998-10-22

NORWAY Dennis Paul Bedard, 49 of Harrison, died unexpectedly Thursday October 15, 1998 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Dracut, MA on April 2, 1949, the son of Raymond and Clair Breton Bedard. He was a graduate of Dracut High School. Mr. Bedard faithfully served our country in the US Army. He married Theresa Guilbeault on July 3, 1970 in Amesbury, MA. He worked for International Paper for 13 years in Lowell, MA. Mr. Bedard and his family moved to Harrison, ME 17 years ago. He had worked for the town of Harrison for 8 years. Mr. Bedard has been a girls softball coach for four years. He loved watching NFL football, especially the New York Jets, playing cards, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa, of Harrison; a son, Bruce Bedard, of Harrison; three daughters, Tina Britton, of Harrison, Bonnie Bedard, of East Machias, and Moriah Bedard, of Harrison; his mother, Clair, of Auburn; two brothers, Mike, of Otisfield, and David, of Lowell, MA; two sisters, Pat Roberts, of West Paris, and Barbara, of Auburn; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Raymond.

Funeral services were held Saturday with Rev. David McMahon officiating. Interment was in the Stuart's Corner cemetery in Harrison.

Irene Abbott Bedard
2000-11-23

SOUTH PARIS - Irene Abbott Bedard, 79, of South Paris died Thursday, November 16, 2000 at Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born in South Paris on February 18, 1921 the daughter of George Harold and Bertha Swift Abbott.

She graduated from South Paris High School. She also was a graduate of Wheelock College in Boston and Columbia University with a teaching degree.

She had taught school in her earlier years.

During WWII she was in charge of a day care center in Brunswick and later worked at Clifford's Drug Store in South Paris.

She married Edmond J. Bedard on June 21, 1947. She had been a homemaker all her life.

She enjoyed playing the piano, bird watching and reading.

She was a member of the Mother's Club in South Paris and the South Paris Universalist Church where she sang in the choir.

She is survived by her husband of South Paris; a son, Peter and his wife Joan Bedard of Manchester; a stepsister, Thelma Slocum of Tulsa, OK, two granddaughters, Keli Young of Lisbon and Jennifer Bedard of Charlotte, NC; a grandson, Peter J. Bedard of Manchester; one great granddaughter, Darian Lavoie of Lisbon and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 20, 2000 at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris. Family and friends attended a visiting an hour prior to the funeral service Interment will be in the Riverside Annex cemetery in South Paris.

Gilbert S. Bell
2000-10-19

Gilbert S. Bell, 72, Augusta, died Oct. 12, at Maine General Medical Center, Augusta after a brief illness. He was born in Sedgwick on February 7, 1928 the son of Edwin W. and Doris B. (Carter) Bell.

Mr. Bell attended school in Lamoine and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of the Apostolic Church of Chelsea where he was very active in the church.

Mr. Bell co-owned and operated Bell’s Auto Sales and Salvage on Rt. 17 for over 40 years.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and a son, Gilbert S. Bell, Jr.

Mr. Bell is survived by his wife of 7 years, Susie F. (Harmon) Bell of Augusta; three daughters, Rebecca Turcotte of Clinton, Candida Bell of Chelsea and Rohdell Bell of Chelsea; two step-sons, James R. Scally of Saco and Patrick Scally of San Diego, CA; two step-daughters, Dorothy Scally of India and Cindy Kelley of Harrington; two brothers, Carl Bell of Chelsea and Robert Bell of Augusta; 13 grandchildren, his friend and long time business partner Pearl Pitman of Windsor and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours Oct. 16 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta with a funeral service Oct. 17 with Pastor Harold Peaslee, Jr., pastor of the Apostolic Church of Chelsea officiating.

Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Bell cemetery in Chelsea.

Those who desire may make donations to: Apostolic Church of Chelsea, Rt. 2 Box 3009 Augusta.
