Edward L. Bontempo
2001-03-01

Edward L. Bontempo, 85, formerly of Naugatuck, Conn., passed away at his home in Nobleboro, on Feb. 27.

Edward was born Jan. 14, 1916 in Beacon Falls, Conn. the son of Anthony and Rose Salinardi Bontempo.

He taught the violin for many years as well as making, repairing and restoring them.

He studied violin at Yale University in New Haven and continued in violin performance at Julliard School of Music in New York City.

During W.W. II he was loaned a violin to perform and tour with Andre Costelanitz at the USO shows. He was awarded, by the French Government, the American Order of the French Croix De Guerre.

He was a member of the American Legion Naugatuck Post #17 and a life member of the VFW Post #1946 in Naugatuck, Conn.

He was also a member of the Voilin Society of America.

He taught at many schools including the Naugatuck Public School system and Western Connecticut College.

Edward played in a community orchestra and coached youth symphony. Recently he had been teaching two men how to make violins.

He and his wife Ruth recently moved to Nobleboro in December.

He is predeceased by sisters, Rose Feinberg and Flora O’Connor, Brother, Marshall Bontempo.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Bontempo, Nobleboro, sons, Edward R. Bontempo of Penacook, N.H.; daughter, Carol J. Smith and husband Vinal of Brewer; sisters, Catherine Radcliffe of Meriden, Conn.; Jane Corby of Wallingford, Conn.; Josephine Jackson of Abingdon, Md; Violet Beck of Dallas, Tex.; brothers, Albert Bontempo of Waterbury, Conn.; Alfred Bontempo of Deerfield Beach, Fla.

Memorial service 11 a.m. March 2, at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro. Deacon John Kreppein will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward’s memory to the American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate, Inc., P.O. Box 346, Augusta, 04332-0346. Arrangements are under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro.

Frances Marguerite "Peggy" Dodge Booker
2000-02-10

Frances Marguerite “Peggy” Dodge Booker, 87, of Pensacola, Fla., died Feb. 3, 2000.

Mrs. Booker was born in Brewer and educated in local schools. She was a graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in home economics. She was a member and held officers in the Pensacola Alumni Chapter of Delta Delta Delta, Mother Seton Guild of Sacred Heart Hospital, AAUW, Escarosa Woman’s Club, League of Women Voters, and the Long Cove Point Club in Chamberlain. She and her husband were long-time summer residents of Chamberlain.

Mrs. Booker was predeceased by her husband, Guy A. Booker.

Survivors include daughters Ellen and husband William Addison, and Sally and husband James Currie, all of Pensacola; son Richard Booker and wife Diane of Rumson, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral Service: Feb. 7, 2 p.m., Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, Pensacola, Dr. Hugh Hamilton officiating. Burial: Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery, Pensacola. Arrangements: Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 2001 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, Fla. 32501 or Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Hanna Gesine Bormann
1999-09-23

Hanna Gesine Bormann, 78, of Jefferson passed away peacefully Wed., Sept. 22, at Maine General in Augusta.

Hanna was born and raised in Germany. She married her husband of 58 years, Friedrich Bormann, on March 15, 1941. In 1955 Hanna and Friedrich immigrated to the United States living in New York from 1955-1959 and then moving to New Jersey from 1959-1979. In 1979 they moved to Jefferson.

Hanna will be remembered as a wonderful and dedicated mother who enjoyed life. She loved spending time with her German friends and will be remembered as a wonderful hostess who loved to entertain, to laugh and dance.

Hanna is predeceased by her son Manfred Bormann.

Hanna is survived by her husband, Friedrich Bormann of Jefferson; one daughter, Renate Crosby of Jefferson; two sons, Fred Bormann of Miss., and Ralph Bormann of Bergenfield, NJ; one brother and three sisters of Germany; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Tom DeRapps will officiate.

Visiting hours will be held at 6 - 8 PM., Fri. Sept. 24 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, ME.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM., Sat. Sept. 25 at Hall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jefferson. Arrangements by Hall Funeral Home.

Eunice Clapp Bostwick
1999-02-25

Eunice Clapp Bostwick, 93, died Feb. 18 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She was born March 22, 1905, in Farmington, the daughter of Richard Harold and Ellen Lyman Clapp. She graduated from Burnham High School in Northampton, Mass., in 1921, received her bachelor of arts degree from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., and did graduate studies at Yale University in 1926.

On Sept. 16, 1926, she married Dr. Wallace Robert Bostwick in New Haven, Conn. He died Aug. 28, 1969.

She was a physician's assistant in her husband's medical practice in Blairstown, N.J.

Mrs. Bostwick is survived by two sons, Dr. George W. Bostwick of Bangor, and Richard C. Bostwick of New York City, N.Y.; one daughter, Eleanor B. Crownfield of Cedar Falls, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, by one daughter, AAnne Titus Bostwick, and by one grandson, Stephen Wallace Bostwick.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs., Feb. 25, at the United Church of Christ in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Additional services will occur at a later date in Newcastle. Arrangements are by Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Anne Bostwick Memorial Scholarship Fund, Center for New Directions, 550 East Spring St., P.O. Box 1609, Columbus, OH 43216-1609.

Ellsworth J. Bourque
2001-02-08

Ellsworth J. Bourque, 86, Newcastle and Princeton, Mass. died January 29 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Doris I. (Ikalainen) Bourque; a son, Bruce J. Bourque of Newcastle, a daughter, Judith I. Bourque, of Stockholm, Sweden and Newcastle; a sister, Jeanette (Bourque) Wright of Palmetto, Fla., and 3 grandchildren.

He was born in Lynn, Mass., a son of Joseph and Almeda Bourque. He was an Eagle Scout and an excellent swimmer. He attended Salem State Teachers’ College and did graduate work in phychology at the University of Pennsylvania and received his master’s degree and doctorate in education at Boston University. He was a Captain in the Army during World War II.

Dr. Bourque was a Rehabilitation Phychologist. He worked for the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Rutland, Mass. for 20 years where he was Chief of Vocational Rehabilitation, Education and Phychology Services. He then served on the faculties of the University of Florida, Anna Maria College, and Springfield College where he taught clinical phychology. He was Chief of Adult Habilitation at the Newark State School, a residential placement center for mentally handicapped young adults for three years during the 1970’s. Toward the end of his career he worked for the State of New Hampshire as a consultant, assisting with the location of appropriate residential placement for mentally handicapped adults.

Dr. Bourque, or “Berky” as he was known to his friends, loved the town of Princeton and was an active member of the community. He coached the Little League, and was active in the Boy Scouts. Along with partner Thomas Smith, he ran the Princeton Cookbook, a volume cherished by many Princeton residents. He was a member of the PTA, and chaired the School Committee for several years. He also chaired the Princeton Council on Aging. He was a past president of the Wachusett House Corporation which was created to build affordable housing for the elderly and handicapped. He was also involved in establishing the use of the Princeton Center School as a community center. During his free time, Berky loved working with carpentry in his workshop.

Graveside service in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Princeton, Mass. Arrangements are under the care of the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main Street Damariscotta.

Estelle T. Bousquet
2000-09-28

Estelle T. Bousquet, 73, died Fri., Sept. 22, at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home, Damariscotta.

She recently moved here from Marlborough, MA. to be close to her sister. She was born June 17, 1927, in MarlBorough, MA. A daughter of Arthur J. and Albina E. (Boisse) Coache.

Mrs. Bousquet is pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Bousquet.

Mrs. Bousquet lived the majority of her life in Marlborough, MA. She was retired from working as an office manager for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company there.

One sister, Madeline Boyd, of Damariscotta, survives her.

Visitation, A funeral Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church, with burial to follow, will be held in Stoughton, MA. Local arrangements are under the care of the Strong Funeral, 612 Main Street,Damariscotta, Arrangements in Massachusetts are under the direction of the Farley Funeral Home, Inc., 358 Park St., Stoughton, MA.

Donald B. Bowman
2000-06-15

Donald B. Bowman, 87, New Harbor, died June 6 at Miles Memorial Hospital, Damariscotta.

Born Jan. 14, 1913 in Watertown, Mass. he was the son of Milfred and Gertrude (Dole) Bowman.

He served in the US Coast Guard and following his discharge attended Vesper George School of Art in Boston. He received a scholarship from the school, spending a year studying art in France.

Mr. Bowman spent the biggest part of his career working at the Sutherland-Abbott Advertising Company in Boston. He retired as Art Director in 1978. After summering in New Harbor since the 1940s, he and his wife came here following retirement and while here he continued in the art field doing many free lance projects, working with acrylics and oils. He was a member and twice president of the Pemaquid Area Group of Artists and loved woodworking and furniture refinishing in his spare time.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Bowman of New Harbor and one daughter, Jane Bowman of Melrose, Mass.

Funeral Service: June 10, at the Chapel of the Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta. He will be laid to rest at the New Harbor Cemetery, following. Arrangements: Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta.

Guy Wentworth Bragdon
2000-10-12

Guy Wentworth Bragdon, 79, Boothbay, died suddenly Fri., Oct. 6 in Waldoboro.

Guy was born June 22, 1921 in New Bedford, Mass., the son of Guy Wentworth and Mary Elizabeth Bashaw Bragdon.

He grew up and attended schools in Massachusetts. In 1942 he married Mabel Chambers and they made their home in Ipswich, Mass. He was a vice president of Electronic Corporation of American and retired in 1973. he and Mabel then moved to their present home in Waldoboro.

Guy loved his Masonic affiliation and attended their suppers and the Shrine Parades.

He enjoyed boating, gardening and traveling to places such as Italy, Scotland, England and Puerto Rico.

He was a Masonic member of the Meduncook Lodge #211 of Friendship, Orient Lodge #15 of Thomaston, Mid-Coast Shrine Club of Rockland, John T. Heard Lodge of Ipswich, Mass, Ipswich Royal Arch Chapter of Ipswich, Mass, Past Master of the Blue Lodge, High Priest of the Chapter and Worthy Patron Order of the Eastern Star of Ipswich Chapter #94, and a member of the Episcopal Church in Ipswich, Mass. and of the Corvette Club of Massachusetts.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mabel Chambers Bragdon of Waldoboro, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Masonic service 7 p.m., and committal service at 7:30 p.m., Mon., Oct. 9, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, 04572.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Guy’s memory to the Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, 04841. Arrangements by Hall Funeral Home.
