Mrs. Patsy Jo (Kendall) Cote

WEST BETHEL - Patsy Jo (Kendall) Cote, 51, of West Bethel, formerly of Baileyville, died October 9, 2007 after a brief battle with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of Albert of West Bethel and dear mother of Margaret of Jamaica Plain, MA and Odette of Everett, MA. She was the daughter of Mary (Cross) and Bill Hester of Okanogan, WA and the late Lawrence Kendall. Mrs. Cote was the sister of Eric Kendall and Dona Taylor and her husband Joe, all of Gilead and aunt of Patsy Cox of Gilead.
Family and friends attended a memorial service on Saturday, October 13 at the Bethel Inn Conference Center located behind the town hall in Bethel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mrs. Cote's memory to Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, 127 Pottle Road, Oxford, ME 04270. Arrangements under the care of Oxford Hills Funeral Services, 1037 Main Street, Rte. 26 Oxford.

Mr. Burton L. Wilner

PALM BEACH, FL - Burton L. Wilner, 86, of Palm Beach, FL and a long time resident of Auburn, died in West Palm Beach on May 5, 2008 of a stroke.
Born in Newburyport, MA on October 17, 1921, he grew up in Haverhill, MA, lived most of his life in Auburn, and after retirement in 1988 settled in Palm Beach, FL.
He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a first Lt during WWII where he was a radar counter measures officer, flying B29s in the Pacific with the 500th Bombardment group. When the war ended, he returned home, married Jacqueline M. Kraunz, and finished his education at the University of Maine at Orono. He worked with his father and other family at Wilner Wood Products Company in Norway, where he was the technical and research director.
He was a founder and long term Chairman of the Board of Stephens Memorial Hospital which served the greater Norway and South Paris communities. He was an active member of the Maine Organization of Hospital Trustees and the Maine Hospital Licensing Advisory Board. He was active in the Lewiston-Auburn Jewish Community where he served as President of the Jewish Federation, Jewish Community Center, and Congregation Beth Jacob and was a founding member of Temple Shalom. He served on the synagogue's Ritual and Cemetery Committees and chaired the Community Hebrew School Committee.
While living in Auburn, he was an active participant in the International Toastmasters Club and Boy Scout Troop 111. In Palm Beach, he was a member of Temple Emanu-El and their Men's Club and Bereavement Committee. He was a devoted supporter of interfaith initiatives, both in Auburn and in Florida. He found a new passion upon his retirement to Florida when he served as Chairman of the Chaplaincy Service of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. He then completed intensive training in Clinical Pastoral Education, including a Pastoral Care Internship, to become a clinical member of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. He worked as a Jewish and Interfaith Chaplain with the Hospice of Palm Beach County and at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach.
Mr. Wilner is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his daughter, Ronnie Sugarman and her husband Barry of Brookline, MA; son, David Wilner and his wife, Jan of Holden, MA and son, James Wilner and his wife Laura of Marlborough, MA. A daughter, Janet Kornreich, died in 1992. He was a loving grandfather to Michael, Nathaniel, and Joseph Sugarman, Sarah (Kornreich) Golubchik, Hannah (Kornreich) Lastoff, Ilana Kornreich, Samantha and Joshua Wilner, Julianne and Joel Wilner and great-grandfather to Yishua Golubchik. He leaves his sisters, Elinor Goldblatt of Auburn, Ruth Schloss and her husband Jay of South Carolina, June Chason of Virginia, and his brother Stanley and his wife Phyllis of South Carolina, previously of Portland. His brothers, Charles and Richard and sister, Avis Schwartz predeceased him. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins.
The funeral was held at Temple Shalom, 74 Bradman Street, Auburn on Wednesday, May 7. Burial was at the Beth Jacob Cemetery in Auburn, and memorial observance was at the home of Elinor Goldblatt, 84 Old Carriage Road, Auburn, on Wednesday evening. Memorial observance continues Thursday evening at Elinor Goldblatt's; at the Sugarmans', 219 Gardner Road, Brookline, MA, Thursday through Tuesday morning; at Jan and David Wilner's, 112 Fox Hill Drive, Holden, MA on Sunday through Monday evening; at Jim and Laura Wilner's, 172 Stearns Road, Marlborough, MA on Sunday through Monday evening and at his home, 2778 South Ocean Blvd, Palm Beach, Sunday through Tuesday morning.
Contributions in Mr. Wilner's memory may be directed to American Friends of Magen David Adom (), to Temple Emanu-El, 190 North County Road, Palm Beach, FL, or to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the care of Albert & Burpee Funeral Home.

Mr. DeWitt (Dewey) Nester

FRYEBURG - DeWitt (Dewey) Nester, 84, of Main Street, Fryeburg died Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Maine Veteran's Home in South Paris. He had lived in Fryeburg and North Lovell since his retirement in 1979.
He was born on January 24, 1924 in Orange, NJ, son of Daniel E. and Gertrude Bergen Nester. He grew up in Maplewood, NJ where he graduated from Columbia High School, then went on and graduated from Bucknell University where he was a member of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity.
After college, he served as an ensign in the Seabees on Olinawa during World War II. He worked as an electrical engineer for New Jersey Bell and AT&T until his retirement in 1979.
Throughout his life, Dewey was active in both the church and community. He chaired the Board of Adjustment for the town of Maplewood, NJ for many years.
He served as a trustee in both Prospect Presbyterian Church of Maplewood, NJ and Fryeburg Congregational Church. In addition, he was an avid carpenter and enjoyed fishing on Lake Kezar for many years.
Mr. Nester was predeceased by a brother, D. Edgar Nester. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Nester and daughters, Dottie Eastman and her husband Donnie of Fryeburg, Lynn Brown and her husband Bud of South Paris, and Susan Beem and her husband Gary of Berlin, VT. Grandchildren include Sara and Stacy Eastman, Susan and Melissa Brown and Katherine, Daniel and Steven Beem.
A graveside service will be held at the North Lovell Cemetery, Saturday, September 27 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fryeburg Congregational Church, Main Street, Fryeburg, ME 04037 or to Maine Veterans' Home, 477 High St., South Paris, ME 04281. Arrangements are made with Wood Funeral Home, Fryeburg.

Christy A. Trask

BUCKFIELD - Christy A. Trask, 91, of Buckfield, died Sunday evening, September 5, 2010 at Clover Health Care in Auburn. She was born in Danville on May 23, 1919, the daughter of Alton and Nellie J. Edwards and stepmother Ruby Edwards. She was educated in Auburn schools and married Floyd E. Trask on December 22, 1939; Mr. Trask died in 1983.
They had three children who survive, Joanne Bonney and her husband Bob of Auburn, Ed Trask of West Palm Beach, FL and Greg Trask and his wife Martha of Turner. Mrs. Trask is also survived by five grandchildren, Eric and Denise Bonney of Parker, CO, Steve and Ellen Bonney of Strong, Gregory and Myra Trask, Christopher Trask and Lisa Trask all of Turner and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Trask had worked at Withington’s Manufacturing and Auburn Heel Factory and later drove school bus for several years until she was 82. She was involved with the Eastern Star for over 50 years having served as Grand Officer, Grand Martha, two years as District Deputy Grand Matron, Grand Representative twice, Worthy Matron many times and held most all offices as well as serving in the Rebekahs as Noble Grand several times and as District Deputy President.
Visiting hours were held at the Andrews Funeral Home, High Street, Buckfield on Wednesday, September 8. Funeral services will be held at the Buckfield Community Church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Eva Thompson officiating. Private burial will be at the Damon Cemetery.

Dorothy Brown Parsons

HARTFORD – Dorothy Brown Parsons, 89, a resident of Hartford, died peacefully Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Ledgeview Nursing Home in West Paris, where she had been a resident since October 1. She was born March 5, 1921 in Hartford, the daughter of Bert and Jennie (Gammon) Brown. She was educated in the local schools and on May 19, 1945 married Edwin Parsons in Portland, where they made their home. As newlyweds they loved walking around downtown and window shopping on Congress Street.
She and her husband owned and operated the Country Plate Restaurant in Canton for several years. While there she was one of the early founding members of the Canton Mother's Club and in 1949 became a member of Ponemah Rebekah Lodge. She served as district deputy president and past noble grand, receiving her 50 year pin in 1999. After moving back home to Hartford in the ‘60s she served as tax collector for many years. She was involved in 4-H, school activities, and other community projects.
She devoted many years as caregiver for family members who were ill, her strong spirit and sense of humor getting her through some very difficult times. She looked forward to her quilting classes each season and gifted members of her family with beautiful handmade quilts. Tuesdays were Senior Citizens day, lunch and bingo with friends.
Mrs. Parsons is survived by daughter, Ginny Libby and husband Rock of Hartford; stepson, Stanley Parsons and wife Natalie of Norway; three granddaughters, Kerri Gleason and husband Ryan of Westford, MA, Jessi Brooks and husband Robert of Auburn and Tania Silver of Alton, NH, great-granddaughter Christine Silver of Nashville, TN and great-grandson Connor of Westford, MA, who lovingly nicknamed her "Grady;" brother, Frank Brown and Genesta of Buckfield; sister, Arlene Libby of Durham; two sisters-in-law, Beulah Brown of Hartford and Doris Brown of Auburn, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edwin in 2000; daughter, Edwina; her grandson, Todd; her brothers, Marcian, Sherman and Stanley Brown and brother-in-law, James Libby.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 12 at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls. Visiting hours were held on Monday, October 11 at the funeral home. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 108, Canton. If desired, contributions may be made to Turner Rescue, PO Box 135, Turner, ME 04282.

Mrs. Frances P. 'Fran' Skillin

NORWAY - Frances P. "Fran" Skillin, 83, of 15 Main St., Norway died Thursday, January 11, at Stephens Memorial Hospital with family at her side following a brief illness.
She was born in Norway on July 23, 1917 the daughter of Frank and Lola McKeen McAllister.
She graduated from Norway High School in 1935.
In 1936 she married Arnold W. Skillin. An enthusiastic homemaker and devoted family person, she worked in area shoe factories for years. Musically inclined, she sang, played the piano, participated in dramas, and minstrel shows.
She and her husband were very active in Christian activities. Together they did transport for Western Maine Transportation, Prison Ministry, Medical Assistance and errands for elderly shut ins.
She was a member of Christian Women United, Full Gospel, and many bible studies. She made regular visits to area hospitals, nursing homes, rehab centers, county jails and private homes.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years; two sons, Richard and his wife Mary of South Paris and Vincent and his wife Peggy of Klamath Falls, OR; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four nieces and five nephews.
Memorial services were held on Monday, January 15 at the Oxford Advent Christian Church.

Mrs. Eleanor Dean

NORWAY - Eleanor Dean, 85, of South Paris died Monday, April 2 at Stephens Memorial Hospital. She was born in Middleborough, MA, on July 25, 1915, the daughter of Albino and Egeria Fontana Faietti.
She graduated from Middleborough High School and had been employed as a meat wrapper at Fernades Markets in Southern Massachusetts
She enjoyed watching baseball on television.
She married Allen M. Dean, who predeceased her.
She is survived by a son, Lorenzo Rice of South Paris and a daughter, Carol Levesque of Lakeland, FL., and two grandchildren.
At the request of the family there will be no services.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris.

Mr. Galen E. Miller

West Paris - Galen E. Miller died suddenly at home in West Paris on July 18, 2001.
Born in Easton, ME on March 12, 1923, he was the son of the late Robert N. and Mary (McDonald) Miller. He was a graduate of Caribou High School and attended Northeastern University, Boston.
As a twenty-one year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served in three wars: World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Based in England during World War II, as an armorer mechanic, on the B-26 Marauder bomber, he participated in the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, and went on to Berlin. He often spoke of the plane with awe and admiration for the rest of his life.
Mr. Miller is survived by a sister: Rena M. Johnston, of Sumner, and several nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by a brother: Robert W. Miller.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of the Andrews Funeral Home, S. Woodstock.

Mrs. Marie C. Shaughnessy

PLYMOUTH, MA - Marie C. Shaughnessy, 80, of Carver, MA and formerly of Harrison, died Thursday, November 8, in Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. She had come to Carver from Harrison in1986 and wintered in Bonita Springs, FL.
Born in Boston on November 13, 1920, she was educated in the Boston schools and was a graduate of Mission High School. She attended Boston Business School and worked as a bookkeeper for the "Boston Globe" for over 15 years and was an avid Bingo player.
Beloved wife of the late Paul J. Shaughnessy, she was the loving mother of Kevin M. Shaughnessy of Carver, Kathy J. Shaughnessy of Harrison Joanne Seely of Portland who survive her and the late Paul W. Shaughnessy. She was also the grandmother of Brady Shaughnessy, Megan Seely and Michael Seely and JP Shaughnessy and Darren Shaughnessy.
The funeral service was private and cremation will be in the Duxbury Crematory.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 1 Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346. Arrangements were by ` Funeral Home, Plymouth.
