Glee Edmonds Brann
2001-04-26

Glee Edmonds Brann, 69, Winthrop, died April 20 at her home, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Burnham at the family dairy farm on May 19, 1931, she was the daughter of Harold T. and Wilhelmine (Cunningham) Edmonds. Glee attended the one room schoolhouse locally, and was a 1949 graduate of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, and was class Salutatorian. Glee held several secretarial positions in the Pittsfield and Augusta area.

She was married to Omer Brann in 1954. When their first child was born in 1958, Glee became a stay-at-home mom. She devoted the next ten years to caring for her family. In 1968, she joined the staff of the Maine Department of Education where she worked in the Bureau of Adult and Vocational Education and the Division of School Operations for Maine’s Unorganized Territories. She retired in 1991. Glee was a devoted mother. She always put her family first. She often went without so her children could have. Glee loved and disciplined and she taught by example.

Throughout her life, Glee expressed her creativity through writing. Whether it be stories of her life and family, notes or letters to friends and family, or the journals that she kept for many years.

Everybody loved Glee. She was diminutive in size, but she had a heart the size of all outdoors. Her kindness and caring garnered her many many friends. Even brief acquaintances were deeply affected by her and remembered her.

Glee truly loved her home on the shores of Lake Annabessacook. She revelled in the sights and sounds of the lake and its inhabitants, especially the loons. Glee enjoyed nothing more than motoring around the lake in the boat every summer, observing the loons and ospreys, muskrats and otters. Her favorite time was an early summer morning when the air was still and she could hear the loons calling to one another across the lake.

Her husband of 42 years, Omer Brann, died in 1996.

Surviving are her two daughters, Lori M. Brann and daughter Sarah Merrifield; and Michele L. Brann, all of Winthrop; her two sons, Gene O. Brann and wife Peggy and their son Kyle all of Winthrop; and Todd M. Brann and wife Sandi of Bristol; her bestfriend, Susan Beach of Gardiner; several sisters-in laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Her sister, Barbara Edmonds Richards of Camden died previously.

Graveside funeral and committal prayers were offered April 24, at Sand Hill Cemetery, Somerville, with Rev. Lawrence E. Merckens officiating. Burial followed the service. If desired, the family suggest memorial gifts to HealthReach Hospice of Augusta, P.O. Box 1568, Waterville, 04903-1568. If you would like to send the family a condolence message, please feel free to e-mail it to grayfh@pivot.net. Gray & Pratt Funeral Directors, 5391 Windsor Neck Road, Windsor in charge of service plans.
