Shirley M. Chancellor
1999-07-08

Shirley M. Chancellor, 67, of Wiscasset died Sunday, July 4 on her 46th wedding anniversary. She had a long battle with diabetes.

She was a member of the Wiscasset Senior Center and was an avid citizens band (CB) radio participant.

She was predeceased by a son, William Gordon Chancellor, who died in 1959.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Chancellor of Wiscasset; three daughters, Cheryl Maloney of Huntsville, Alabama, Wendy Cowan of Brunswick and Robin Boucher of Seabring, Florida; two sons, Bruce Chancellor of Levine, Arizona and Aaron Chancellor of Wiscasset; many grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday, July 10 at 6 p.m. at the Mormon Chapel in Topsham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.

Irving T. Chandler
1999-04-22

BRIDGTON - Irving T. Chandler, 75, of Oxford Street Fryeburg, died Friday, April 16, at the Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sweden, the son of Leslie and Addie Littlefield Chandler and was educated in Sweden and Lovell schools.

He was a WW II Army Veteran.

Mr. Chandler lived in Lovell most of his life, moving to Fryeburg five years ago.

He worked as a woodsman, also, for Thompson Saw Mill and C.N. Brown Lumber Co. He was a care-taker for Richard King III and did carpenter work with Azel Littlefield.

Mr. Chandler was a member of Delta Lodge Of Masons #153, Past Commander of Fryeburg-Lovell VFW Post #6783, Past President of Kezar Lake Sportsman Club, a member of the Lovell Fire Department and the Fryeburg Rescue. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an avid golfer.

Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Walker Chandler of Fryeburg; one son Stephen Chandler of South Portland; two daughters, Kathleen Adams and Deborah Jones, both of East Stoneham; four sisters, Doris Hatch and Betty Hilton, both of Bridgton, Joan Andrews and Beulah Holden, both of Harrison; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Norma Louise and Paula Irene; one brother. Robert; and three sisters, Nora Ridlon, Julia Rolfe and Hilda Cannell.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at the Fryeburg-Lovell VFW Hall in Lovell with the Reverend Neil Wilson officiating. Donations may be made in memory of Mr. Chandler to the Maine Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 1161, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Funeral arrangements are by Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.

Isabelle R. Chaplin
1998-12-10

HARRISON - Isabelle R. Chaplin, 93, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, December 2, at her home in Harrison.

She was born in Hiram on December 14, 1904, the daughter of Walter and Marcia Guilford Sawyer. She attended Bridgton Academy.

Mrs. Chaplin worked at the Harrison Village Drug Store and as a clerk at the Sioux Moccasin Company in Harrison.

She was a member of the Lakeside Grange, also in Harrison. She married Harvey G. Chaplin on June 17, 1926. He died on March 17, 1985.

Survivors include a grandson, Glen D. Chaplin and his wife, Amy,, with whom she made her home in Harrison.; three great-grandchildren, Melissa, Jonathan and Adam Chaplin, all of Harrison; and a brother Clifford Sawyer of Jay. She was predeceased by a son, Eugene Chaplin, who died in 1985; a granddaughter, Gloria Chaplin,who died in 1973; and a brother who died in 1998.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 4 at the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street in Bridgton. Burial was in the Harrison Village Cemetery.

Phillips F. Chase
1998-09-03

Phillips Freeman Chase, 70, passed away Saturday, August 29 at Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas after a long battle with bone cancer.

Mr. Chase was a avid member of Rotary Club International for 32 years and a veteran of World War II. He served his country with valor and honor. Additionally, he was a Mason belonging to the Norumberga Lodge of Newtonville, Massachusetts since 1964.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Chase of Corpus Christi; two sons, Phillip Chase of Falmouth and Peter Chase of Boothbay Harbor; one daughter, Cory Chase Andrews of Boothbay Harbor; two grandsons and a host of many friends.

Memorial services will be held in Boothbay Harbor in midDecember.

Joseph Chase
1999-12-09

Joseph Chase, 90, died Friday, December 3 at Cove's Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta.

He was born in Farley, Mass.

Mr. Chase worked for Raytheon in Waltham, Mass. for many years.

He is survived by a sister, Jeanne Flaherty of Dorchester, Mass.; two nieces and a nephew, all of Massachusetts; and a companion, Betty Atwood of Wiscasset.

Services will be held at a future date in Lake Wales, Florida.

Carolyn G. Chick
1999-07-22

Carolyn Grant Chick, 75, of Boothbay Harbor, died Saturday, July 17 at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born April 24, 1924 in Pemaquid, she was the daughter of Verdie A. and Myrtie Osier Grant. She was educated in Lewiston and Bath schools.

Mrs. Chick worked during World War II in the canteen at Bath Iron Works. She was a caregiver in Boothbay Harbor after the war.

On April 24, 1968 she married William H. Chick of North Monmouth and they operated a general store in that town. After her husband died in 1978 she moved back to Boothbay Harbor.

She was a member of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor.

She was predeceased by a sister, Edith Willey.

Survivors include two brothers, Burton Grant of North Edgecomb and Verdie Grant of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Alice G. House of North Monmouth and Margaret Hamblin of Bath; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held on Wednesday, July 21 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home. Rev. James O'Brien officiated. Burial followed in the New Harbor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor or the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, Atlantic Highway, Edgecomb, ME 04556. Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Earle L. Child
1998-07-02

AUBURN - Earle L. Child, 90, of Clover Manor, who lived in Canto, for most of his life, died early Saturday morning, June 27, 1998. Mr. Child was born in Hartford, May 18, 1908, the son of the late Lewis W. and Emma E#. (Bragg) Child. He attended Hartford Elementary School, and Canton High School.

He married Josephine Kennedy, in 1952, who predeceased him in 1970. Mr. Child was, for many years, a trackman for the Maine Central Railroad, from which he retired, and was a past member of the Canton Odd Fellows.

He is survived by three brothers, Enoch B., of South Paris, Lewis W., Jr., of Canton, and Richard W. of Hartford and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Child was predeceased by two sisters, Emma L. Lyons, and Eleanor M. Child, and a brother Joseph.

Funeral services were at the Andrew Funeral Home, Bryant Pond, Tuesday and Interment was in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Canton.

Floyd D. Child
1998-11-26

RUMFORD - Mr. Floyd D. Child, 88, of Main Street, Peru, died peacefully at the Rumford Community Home early Saturday morning, November 21.

He was born September 14, 1910, in Peru, ME, the son of Leon and Pearl (Miller) Child and had lived in Peru for his entire life. He graduated from Dixfield High School in the Class of 1928.

Mr. Child was a Supervisor in the Finishing Room at Stowell-McGregor for 47 years where he was an active member of their bowling league. He also loved to spend time in his shop.

He married Ethel Welch in Rumford on October 25, 1928. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together.

He is survived by his wife of Peru; three sons, Charles of South Paris, John and his wife Lorna of Carthage and James and his wife Glynda of Dixfield; two daughters, Carol Cayer and her husband Paul of Peru and Linda Knowles and her husband Richard of Dixfield; 27 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased in 1984 by a daughter, Gloria Walker, who is survived by her husband Baxter of Hancock.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 24 at the Demeritt Cemetery, West Peru.

Arrangements were under the direction of Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.

Charles D. Child
1999-02-25

SOUTH PARIS - Charles D. Child, 67, of Dixfield, died early Monday morning, February 22, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. with his two daughters by his side.

Formerly of New Britain, CT for over 38 years, he returned to Maine in May of 1993 and resided in Dixfield.

He was born in Rumford on March 16, 1931, the son of Floyd and Ethel (Welch) Child and graduated from Dixfield High School with the class of 1949., where he was a three letter athlete. He worked temporarily for Stowell McGregor, then enlisted with the U.S. Marines from September 30, 1949 to February 12, 1953 and was stationed at Parris Island, NC, where he served as an airplane mechanic.

Mr. Child was employed as a machinist at the New Britain Machine Co. in CT for over 33 years and then five years as a security guard for the Pinkerton Company at the Stanley Works also in New Britain, CT until retirement on May 1, 1993, when he moved back to Maine to be near his family.

He had received numerous commendations from the American Red Cross, to which he had proudly donated six gallons of blood. His free time was spent pursuing his favorite pastime, golf. He will long be remembered as a kind and generous man.

He was formerly a member of the New Britain, CT Elks Lodge #957, B.P.O.E.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ethel Child of Peru; two daughters, Toni Robertson of Rumford and Dawn Allen of Peru; three granddaughters, Amy Robertson of Newry, Melissa Allen of Syracuse, NY and Amanda Allen of Peru; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Carol) Cayer of Peru and Mrs. Richard (Linda) Knowles of Dixfield; two brothers and their wives, James and Glynda Childs of Dixfield and John and Lorna Child of Carthage. He was predeceased by a sister, Gloria Walker, of Ellsworth, who died in 1984 and by his father, Floyd Child of Peru, who died November 21, 1998.

At his request there will be no public calling hours, but friends are invited to attend graveside services in the spring at the Demeritt Cemetery, West Peru.

Those who desire, please donate to the American Red Cross, United Valley Chapter, P.O. Box 439, Auburn, ME 04210 in his memory. Arrangements are under the care of Meader & Son, Rumford.
