Pastor Bryan Carey Collette
1999-12-02

ST. JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK - Pastor Bryan Carey Collette passed away at Saint John Regional Hospital on November 29, 1999.

He was born in Lewiston on January 15, 1958.

He is survived by his parents Peter C. and Eloise M. Collette; his wife, Heather Collette; his maternal grandmother Esther Merrill of South Paris; four children, Jessica, Merrill, Cara and Jade, all of Halifax, Nova Scotia; four brothers, Brad Collette of Vermont, Bruce and Peter Collette of Florida and Barry Collette and his wife Kathleen of Greenwood and his sister Tania Becker of South Paris.

During his high school years, Bryan pumped gas for his dad at the Trap Corner Store in West Paris.

Following high school, he graduated from the New Brunswick Bible Institute in Hartland. During summers he pastored a church in Turner. Following graduation from N.B.B.I. he pastored in Boistown and Sussex, New Brunswick, and had missions in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada where the family received relatives and friends on Wednesday.

Funeral services were held at the Wallace Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 1, 1999 at 3 p.m, with Pastors Allen Gallent and John Boyd officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, December 4, in the Community Room at Buck Hill Apartments, 235 High Street, South Paris.

Donations made to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.

Mrs. Mary Alice Clifford Colley
2000-06-08

WINTER PARK, FL - Mary Alice Clifford Colley, 101, died in Winter Park, FL on February 22.

She was born in South Paris in 1898, the last surviving of seven children born to Wallace M. and Apphia Parsons Clifford.

She was the widow of George R. Colley of Poland Spring.

Mrs. Colley graduated from South Paris High School, Class of 1916. She taught at the King District School and attended Bates College.

Mrs. Colley and her husband lived in Cleveland, OH, and Gary, IN before retiring to Orlando, FL in 1971.

She was a member of the DAR and the Congregational Church of Winter Park.

Survivors include daughters Mary Stierer of Troy, NY and Jane Stackhouse of St. Augustine, FL; one son George R. Colley Jr. of Rio Rancho, NM; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and first cousin, Bernice Parsons Paul of South Paris.

Memorial services will be held in Troy, NY on August 5.

Clarence E. Conant
1998-12-10

LEWISTON - Clarence E. Conant, 94 of Greenwood Mountain, Hebron died late Wednesday evening at D'Youville Pavillion.

Mr. Conant was born in Hebron, September 28, 1904, the son of Walter G. and Emily (Bearce) Conant and was a lifelong resident of that community.

He attended Hebron schools and Hebron Academy, as well as the New York Institute of Accounting and Commerce.

An orchardist by profession, he operated Conant's Orchards for nearly 40 years, until his retirement in 1972.

Mr. Conant married the former Rachel Bearce in 1936 She predeceased him in 1994. He was a long-time member and Past Master of Hebron Grange #43, a member and past president of the Maine Pomalogical Society, a founder and past president of the Maine Apple Growers of Buckfield, a former selectman of the town of Hebron and a director of the Hebron Home Telephone Company. He held membership in the Evening Star Lodge of Masons of Buckfield and was also a member and trustee of the Hebron Community Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons: Bruce E. Conant of Turner and Conrad B. Conant of Buckfield; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Conant was also predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Glover and Mildred Hanscom.

Funeral services were held, Sunday, December 6, at the Hebron Community Baptist Church.

Friends who wish may make donations in Mr. Conant's memory to Hebron Community Baptist Church, Hebron, ME 04238.

Richard A. Conant
1999-01-07

NORWAY - Richard A. Conant, 57, of Greenwood died Friday January 1, 1999 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

He was born in Beverly, MA on August 8, 1941, the son of Randolf W. and Evelyn Vogel Conant. He was educated at Beverly Technical High School. He had worked as a pattern maker by trade.

He had served as Harbor Master in Beverly, MA, he had served on the board of directors for the Danvers Fish & Game, was a member of the Ancient One's of Canton, and the Greenwood planning board.

He married Linda Bacon on April 4, 1981. He is survived by his wife of Greenwood; his mother, Evelyn Conant; three daughters, Annette Aslin of Beverly, Colleen Conant of Salem, MA and Bonny Zwicker of Beverly, MA; one son, Derek Conant of Peabody, MA and three grandchildren, Andrea, Liz, and Kyle.

Memorial services were held Monday at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris with a visitation preceding the service. Donations in Mr. Conant's memory may be sent to the American Diabetes Association PO Box 2208 9 Church St. Augusta, Maine 04330.

Jane M. Conley
1999-01-21

Jane MacKusick Conley, 64, owner of Conley's Garden Center, passed away on Sunday, January 17 in her hometown of Boothbay Harbor.

Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, daughter of Marcia Smith MacKusick and William Prall MacKusick. Jane studied music and business administration at Akron University, then permanently moved to her beloved Boothbay Harbor after spending childhood summers on Southport Island.

Renowned for her varied talents and contributions, Jane is best known for her long history of giving and working to beautify the community. She was actively involved in the Boothbay Region Humane Society, Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, Windjammer Days Parade Committee, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and countless others. In addition to sitting on the YMCA board of directors, Jane was a key player in the development of the current YMCA facility, the John C. Emery pool and racquetball courts.

In 1970, Jane was awarded Maine's Outstanding Young Woman of the Year Award. She is listed in Who's Who for Honored Professionals for 1998-99. Jane was honored to have been selected Grand Marshal of the Windjammer Days Parade in June of 1997; was founder of the Boothbay Region Tree Planting Program; the first female Rotarian in Boothbay Harbor, and was recently named a lifetime member of the Lincoln Arts Festival. She received numerous awards and commendations for her civic contributions.

Apart from her civic commitments, Jane was co-owner and operator of Conley Tree Surgeons and Garden Center for close to 40 years with her husband Ervin Godfrey Conley who passed away in August of 1992. Jane was the first woman licensed arborist in the state of Maine; governor of the Maine Nurseryman's Assoc. for numerous years, and active in the Maine Arborists Assoc. (first woman board member) New England Nurseryman's Assoc., Int'l Shade Tree Conference, American Assoc. of Nurserymen, and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.

As a lifetime music lover, Jane played her trumpet at Our Lady Queen of Peace and in the Alumni Community Band. Together with husband Erv, they enjoyed the sport of archery at which Jane's performance earned her honors as Maine's representative in New England Archery Championship Tournaments for six consecutive years, were avid lovers of nature; racquetball players; and sports enthusiasts.

Survivors include her children, Tari, David Godfrey, Jan Lovering, and Mark Rand Conley; a step-daughter, Susan Conley Walsh; an aunt, Jean Watson; brothers, Robert Rand MacKusick and William Prall MacKusick Jr.; cousin, Deedee Kaman; grandchildren, Marcia and Michael Conley Carter; step-grandchildren, Crissy Masiello and Garry Tilton; two step great-grandchildren; and many MacKusick cousins from across the country who enjoy summers on Southport Island; and friend Vivienne Daniels.

Services will be held at the Congregational Church in Boothbay Harbor on Sunday, January 24 at 2 p.m. Reception will follow. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 23 from 6-9 p.m. at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. A memorial mass will be conducted in the summer of Our Lady Queen of Peace church in Boothbay Harbor.

Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the Boothbay Region Humane Society, P.O. Box 303, Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538.

Arrangements are under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Walter H. Connell
1999-07-01

SOUTH PARIS - Walter H. Connell, 77, of Christian Ridge Road, South Paris, died Saturday morning, at the Maine Veterans' Home, South Paris.

Mr. Connell was born in Milford, MA, the son of the late Daniel and Madeline(Porter) Connell, May 8, 1922.

He attended Beebee River, NH, schools.

A maintenance man by vocation he had been associatedwith A.C. Lawrence, of South Paris, for over 30 years, until his retirement.

Mr. Connell served in the U. S. Navy during Would War II, servingwiththe same Patrol Boat (PT) squadron asJohn F. Kennedy's PT-109, in the Pacific Fleet.

An accomplished dowser(water witch), he was able to find water for many area homes, and was a member of the American Society of Dowsers, Inc., as well as a former member of the American Legion. Prior to establishing his residence in South Paris, he had resided in North Paris, coming from New Orleans, LA.

Mr. Connell is survived by four daughters, JoAnn M. Ferraro, of Andover, MA, Donna M. Berry of Quincy, MA, Dorothy L. Berry, of West Sumner, ME, and Ruth F. Hebert, of East Bethel; five sons, Chester F. Connell, of South Paris, Walter H. Connell, II, of Norway, Daniel J. Connell, of North Norway, Bruce G. Connell, of Violet, LA, and Kenneth P. Connell, of West Paris; two brothers, a twin brother Warren H. Connell, of South Paris, and Richard Connell, of Newton, KA; 23 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as wellas a special friend: Doris Maxim, of South Paris.

He was predeceased by two brothers, a sister, and a grandson.

Friends called at the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock, Tuesday evening.

Services were held at the funeral home, Wednesday morning with Interment in the Blair Cemetery, Campton, NH.

Due to his love of children, memorial donations, in his memory, may be made to a child's charity of your choice.

Mr. Warren H. Connell
2000-07-13

SOUTHPARIS- Warren H. Connell, 78, formerly of Mechanic Falls died Friday morning, July 7, 2000, at the Market Square Health Care Center.

He was born in Milford, MA, on May 8, 1922, the son of Daniel and Madeline Porter Connell.

He attended schools in Massachusetts and during World War II faithfully served in the Navy aboard the USS Chiwawa as a navigator.

After the war he worked as a first mate for the Moore-McCormak Lines of New York and as a hotel manager in New York. He owned the Snow Valley Inn in Andover, ME and the Common Market in Mechanic Falls dealing in antiques. He was also a coin collector.

Mr. Connell made his home in many states before returning to Maine to live.

He is survived by a brother, Richard F. of Kansas, a life-long friend Theresa Geissler of South Paris and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a twin brother Walter, and brothers Kenneth and Chester and a sister Ruth F. Connell.

Graveside services were held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Blair Cemetery, Campton, NH.

Family and friends called at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway, Saturday evening.

Evelyn M. Connolly
1999-12-23

Evelyn M. Connolly, 87, of Ocean Point, East Boothbay, died Friday, December 17 at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Hospital.

Born in Boston on August 1, 1912, she was the daughter of George and Mabel Marsh of Boston, Mass., the eldest of six children. She attended Girls High and the Blackstone School in Boston.

In 1930 she married John Donnellon. For many years she worked for the New England Telephone Company as a telephone operator (in the days when you picked up the phone and a human operator said "number please").

When she and her husband retired they moved to Tilton, New Hampshire where Evelyn managed their golf-drive range, miniature golf course and trophy engraving business. She was also president of the Emblem Club in Franklin, N.H.

Her first husband died in 1970 and in 1973 she married James Connolly. Following her second husband's death she retired to Port Charlotte, Florida where she enjoyed golfing, cards with friends and life in general.

In May of 1996 she moved to Ocean Point to be with her daughter and became a resident of Gregory Wing in October of 1999.

Survivors include her son, Richard Donnellon of Port Charlotte, Florida; one daughter, Connie McIntyre of Ocean Point; one brother, Chester Marsh of Plympton, Mass.; granddaughter, Deborah and great-granddaughter, Heather of Hampstead, N.H.; two grandsons, Jeffrey and Bradley Pascoe; and three great-grandchildren, Alisia Noemi, Daniel Tovey and Ariel Pascoe of Burlington, Vt. Also many nieces and nephews.

Her life will be celebrated in a memorial service next spring in Tilton, New Hampshire. Memorial contributions can be made to the Gregory Wing, St. Andrews Hospital, Boothbay Harbor.

Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.
