Elizabeth E. Conroy
2000-09-07

Elizabeth Elinor Conroy, 74, of Wiscasset, died Monday, September 4 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

Born in Wiscasset October 10, 1925, she was a daughter of Charles and Edna (Hammond) Pomeroy.

Mrs. Conroy graduated, Valedictorian, from Wiscasset Academy in the Class of 1943 and from Bryant and Stratton Business College in 1945.

She lived for many years in Dorchester, Massachusetts and while there was employed by the Federal Government for over 20 years. After returning to her native Wiscasset, she became active with the Wiscasset Senior Citizens Center, most recently volunteering for the annual Blood Drive.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Conroy of Bridgewater, Mass., and Paul Conroy, also of Massachusetts. She also leaves three grandsons, Brian, Andrew and Gerald Conroy. She was predeceased by a son, William.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 11 at 1 p.m. at the Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset. Arrangements are under the care of the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.

Phil W. Cook
1999-12-09

Phil Wilson "Buddy" Cook, 67, of East Boothbay died Saturday, December 4 at St. Andrews Hospital.

He was born September 17, 1932 in Portland, the son of Philip and Mildred Tibbetts Cook.

He attended Deering High School where he was captain of his basketball team and the Mayor. He graduated from Deering in 1950.

Mr. Cook served in the U.S. Army from 1953 through 1955, stationed in Germany. During that time, he was married to Judith Miller Cook. They moved to Boothbay in 1960. Phil worked for the New England Telephone Company for 36 years as an installer and repairman.

He spent many hours coaching youth athletics at the YMCA, elementary and high schools. He also volunteered at St. Andrews Hospital for the past few years.

He was a member of VFW Post #3475 in Boothbay Harbor, Bay View Masonic Lodge #196 in East Boothbay, Royal Arch Masons-Lincoln Chapter #3 in Wiscasset and a past president of the Boothbay Region High School Boosters Club.

Mr. Cook is survived by his mother, Mildred Cook of South Portland; his wife, Judith Cook of East Boothbay; daughters Cathlene Parkhurst and her husband, David, of Boothbay and Mary Jane Tracy and her husband, John, of South Portland; sons, Peter Cook and his wife, Sheree, of Westport, Conn. and Michael and his wife, Karen, of Boothbay; nine grandchildren, Kate, Jordan, Julie, Matthew, Brittany, Jason, Catherine, Samuel and Brian; brothers, C. Allan Cook of Standish and Francis Cook of South Portland; many nieces, nephews, cousins and "good buddies."

A funeral service was held Tuesday, December 7 at 11 a.m. at Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay, with Alfred Roberts officiating.

Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay.

Donations may be made in Phil's memory to St. Andrews Hospital, Boothbay Harbor, or to the BRHS Athletic Boosters Club.

Arrangements are under the direction of Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Anita T. Cook
1998-06-04

WEST PARIS - Anita T. Cook, 78, of South Paris died Saturday May 30, 1998, at the Ledgeview Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born in Norway on October 4, 1919, the daughter of Cyrus W. and Josephine Roy Twitchell. She was a graduate of South Paris High School and Farmington Normal School (University of Maine at Farmington), and received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education from Boston University.

In 1948, She married Roy E. Cook who predeceased her in 1985. Mrs. Cook spent her first five years at teaching in South Paris and Kittery. She then moved to Lexington, MA where she taught for over 20 years.

She retired from teaching in 1977 and moved back to South Paris to reside. She was involved in volunteer work with many local organizations, including the South Paris Library and the Paris Cape Historical Society of which she was a founding member.

She is survived by her two sons, Jeffry R. of S. Brunswick, NJ, and G. Cyrus of Wallingford CT; a sister, Mary T. Johnson of Bridgton, a foster sister, Marie D. Clarke of Florida and two granddaughters, Robin Cook and Emma Cook.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, June 6, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Paris Universalist Church with Shirley Miller officiating. Interment will be at Norway Pine Grove Cemetery.

Edgar A. Coolidge
1998-11-12

QUINCY, MA - Edgar A. Coolidge, 80, of Quincy, Massachusetts, died Monday, November 2, 1998, at Quincy Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Bethel, the son of Wallace and Lilas Coolidge. He attended local schools and graduated from Gould Academy.

After graduating from business school, he moved to Quincy, where he worked briefly before enlisting in the Navy for two years during World War II.

In 1941, he married Miina K. Mikkonen of West Paris, who died in 1995.

From 1944 to 1980, he was employed at the Boston and Maine Railroad, where he worked on freight rates, serving as a supervisor during the last part of his career.

During his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, landscaping, reading and trout fishing in Maine. His favorite vacation spots were in the Gaspe Peninsula, Nova Scotia and Maine.

He was also a member of the Bethel Historical Society.

Mr. Coolidge is survived by a sister, Barbara J. Crocker of Riverside, Rhode Island, and a son, Ronald E. of Quincy.

Graveside services were held on November 4 at the Riverside cemetery in Bethel.

Robert E. Coolidge
1999-01-07

BETHEL - Robert E. Coolidge, 69, of Sunset Road in Bethel, died Sunday, December 27 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Greenwood on September 19, 1929, the son of Arthur and Anna Bennett Collidge.

He attended school in Greenwood and Locke Mills and served his country faithfully in the Navy on the USS Hunnington and USS Midway. He worked many years at A. C. Lawrence Leathers in South Paris and later as a cook at Gould Academy in Bethel.

Mr. Coolidge devoted his life to make his wife and children happy. He enjoyed his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. His door was always open to anyone he meet and he was a preacher at heart. His words of wisdom to everyone were never pick up a hitchhiker, especially anytime. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time a Trap Corner.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Greene Collidge of Bethel; two sons and their wives, William and Patricia of West Paris and Edward and Audrey of Oxford; four daughters and their husbands, Linda and Michael Korhonen of West Paris, Mary Ellen and Roenell Cummings of West Paris, Florence Coffin of Greenwood and Janet Lee Cox of Bryant Pond; two step-sons, Steppe Richards of Norway and Bruce Richards and his wife, Diane, of New Hampshire; one brother, Wilfred Collidge of Locke Mills; three sisters, Constance Blanchard and Margaret Bailey, both of Locke Mills and Annita Packard of Mims, FL; 21 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Collidge was predeceased by a son, Robert; a daughter, Theresa; a brother, Calvin and a sister, Theresa Martin.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, December 30 at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, South Pairs.

Those wishing may make memorial gifts in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME or the American Lung Association, 128 Sewall St., Augusta, ME.

Weston- Chandler Funeral HOme, South Paris, was in charge of arrangements.

Edith Coolidge
2000-07-20

NORWAY - Edith Peggy M. (Robinson) Coolidge, 87, of East Bethel, died Sunday morning at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Coolidge was born in Livermore, the daughter of the late Victor and Addie (Leavitt) Robinson, and attended Livermore schools. She married Almond Pete Coolidge, who died in 1991.

Prior to residing at Ledgeview, she had made her home in East Bethel for nearly three-quarters of a century.

She was a member of the Bethel Senior Citizens, the Bethel Historical Society, and a former member of Alder River Grange.

Mrs. Coolidge is survived by a daughter, Mary Bean; three sons, Earl, John and Victor, all of East Bethel; 18 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and a great, great grandchild.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two daughters, Arlene, and Phyllis.

At her request there are no public services.

Friends who wish may make memorial donations to: American Diabetes Association,P.O. Box 2208, 9 Church St., Augusta, ME 04330.

Arrangements are by the Greenleaf Funeral Home, Bethel.

Douglas K. Cooper
2000-09-07

Douglas Keniston "Gabby" Cooper, 76, a resident of Wiscasset since 1962, died Sunday, September 3.

Born in Rockland on August 13, 1924, he was a son of Almon and Lenora Cooper. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and graduated from the University of Maine in 1951 with a degree in Business Administration.

Upon graduation he went to work for Dragon Cement Company in New York City. He was later employed by Northern Chemical in Searsport before joining the Bath Iron Works in 1962. In 1992 he retired from the Bath Iron Works after serving as a Procurement Engineer with the Engineering and Materials Division. In the late '60s he was involved in DX program working with Gibbs & Cox in New York, and then in the '80s he was in Washington, D.C. for the foundation of the DDG51 Aegis program. In 1990 he served as a consultant to Saint John's Shipbuilding in New Brunswick.

Mr. Cooper was a past trustee of the Wiscasset Public Library, an active volunteer at the Maine Maritime Museum, Maine State Museum, and presently the secretary of the Maine Genealogical Society. He served on the Board of Directors for Camp Bishopswood; was a member of the Wiscasset Budget Committee and had previously served on the Wiscasset School Committee. In his later years he had a passion for genealogical research and was active in local bridge clubs.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Virginia Stickney Cooper of Wiscasset; five children, Ida (Jeffrey) Peterson of Falls Church, Va., Ken (Merry) Cooper of Wiscasset, Laura (Michael) Chaney and Olivia Cooper, both of Concord, N.H., and Jocelyn (Larry) Stover of Topsham; a sister, Betsey Cooper of Harrison Twp., Mich.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Wiscasset Community Center on Saturday, September 9 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wiscasset Public Library or the Wiscasset Community Center.

Miriam R. Corbett
1998-05-28

NEW YORK CITY, NY - Miriam R. Corbett of New York City, NY passed away May 12, 1998 at Calvary Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born January 27, 1925 in South Paris and was the daughter of Merton A. and Edith R. Corbett. She graduated from South Paris High School in 1942 and attended Bay Path Institute in Springfield, MA.

After brief employment at the Keene Evening Sentinel newspaper in Keene, NH, she began work in and among American Baptist churches, and resided in New York City most of her adult life. For 25 years, she served on the ministers and missionaries Benefit Board staff of American Baptist Churches, with responsibilities for emergency assistance, the development of retirement planning seminars, and administration of the program of visiting retired members. She retired in 1992.

She is survived by her mother of Corning, NY; her sister Carmen (William) Hutchins of Corning, NY; her niece Julie (Dan) Green of Lakeland, FL; and nephew Barry (Rose) Hutchins and their children of Port land .

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, June 14 at Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South, New York City, where she was a member. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, South Paris.
