Roger Daigle
1998-08-06

Roger Daigle, 62, formerly of Boothbay, died Thursday at his home in Ocala, Florida.

Mr. Daigle was a fleet mechanic for the city of Ocala.

Surviving is his wife of 13 years, Elsie Daigle; a stepdaughter, Verna G. Werlia of Boothbay Harbor; a brother, Dana of Burlington, Washington; an aunt, Irma Heally of Orlando, Florida; and an uncle, Ray Michaud of Norway, Maine.

Arrangements are by National Cremation Society Funeral Home, Ocala, Florida.

Priscilla C. Dalton
1999-07-29

Priscilla C. Dalton of Kittery, died Tuesday, July 20 of cancer at her home.

Born July 11, 1935, in Wiscasset, she was the daughter of Earl and Madeline Colby. She was a graduate of the Class of 1953 at Wiscasset High School.

Mrs. Dalton is predeceased in 1987 by her husband, Gerald L. Dalton Sr., whom she married in 1954 in Wiscasset, where they lived until 1960. From there they moved to Kittery, where she lived until her death.

She was known for her tremendous amount of energy and caring personality. She was very involved with the Maine Brain Injury Foundation and the needs of the Butler House in Saco.

Her hobbies were growing plants and flowers, which showed in her yard and home, and shopping.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald L. Dalton Jr. and wife Nancy of Wiscasset, and Glen Dalton of Saco; two daughters, Cathy Dalton and Patrick Hoy of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Cindy Dalton Flores and husband Luis A. Flores Jr. of Kittery; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Monday, July 26 at Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Dalton has requested that donations be sent to the Butler House, 15 Notts Road, Casco, ME 04072. Arrangements were by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

William Dalton
2000-03-23

William "Wayne" Dalton, 61, a lifelong resident of Wiscasset, died Saturday, March 18 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a courageous 14-year battle with cancer. born in Wiscasset on August 12, 1938, he was the son of Joseph P. and Edith M. (Jones) Dalton. Mr. Dalton attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset High School with the class of 1956. He served in the United States Army during the Cuban crisis. He was employed by Bath Iron Works as a welder. He later worked as a carpenter for many local contractors. He designed and built his own home and workshop. Mr. Dalton enjoyed working with woods, politics and telling jokes. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Connie M. Dalton of Wiscasset; two sons, William Wayne Dalton Jr. of Austin, Texas and Gregory Alan Dalton of Wiscasset; his mother, Edith M. Dalton of Damariscotta; three brothers, Rodger Dalton of Phippsburg, Richard Dalton of Wiscasset and Arthur Dalton of Newcastle; many cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends who all helped him through his final illness. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, March 22 at Old Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset With Dr. Richard Hall officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, 87 Elm Street, Suite 203, Camden, ME 04843. Arrangements were by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset.

David Wilkinson
1998-09-11

David Wilkinson, 65, a longtime resident of Gray who was born in New Gloucester, died Tuesday, September 6.

He had been road commissioner for the Town of Gray for 16 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Gray, the National Rifle Association and the Sportsmen's Alliance of Maine. He loved to garden, growing pumpkins for kids, and he enjoyed reading, restoring antiques and studying local history.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Skilling Wilkinson, of Gray; a daughter, Jayne Wilkinson, of Gray; a brother, Allyn, of Oak View, California; and his stepfather, Paul Walker, of Lewiston.

Memorial donations may be made to Gray Rescue, P.O. Box 258, Gray, ME 04039.

All of us at The Gray News send our most sincere condolences to his wife Yvonne, who for many years has been a member of the Board of Directors of this newspaper, and to his entire family.

Mr. Wilkinson's many friends and admirers in Gray will miss him.

Father Thomas E. Davis
1999-11-11

Father Thomas Edward Davis, a priest and pastor in the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey for over 50 years, died at his home in West Orange, New Jersey, on November 4. From early childhood, he spent summers in Maine at the family home at Spruce Point, Boothbay Harbor.

He was the son of Cecilia and Edward Davis of South Orange, who was one of the founders of the prestigious printing firm of Davis, Delaney, Arrow of New York City.

Having received a degree in philosophy from Seton Hall University, he attended the Theological Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Darlington, New Jersey. He was ordained a priest at St. Patrick's Pro-Cathedral on June 11, 1949. His first appointment was to the parish of the Immaculate Conception Church in Monclair. He served the people as a pastoral assistant and teacher in the high school. While at the parish he was also the chaplain to St. Vincents Hospital in Monclair.

Recognizing his charisma as a leader of youth, Archbishop Thomas Boland assigned him to found the first Newman Center at Monclair State Teachers College in the fall of 1967. He demonstrated his leadership abilities as the Essex County Director of the Archdicean Catholic Youth Organization. He also found time to attend the Manhattan College to receive a Masters degree in Theology, to enhance his ecclesiastic skills in order to become an updated leader in the intellectual community.

In 1977 the president of Monclair State College conferred upon him the degree of Laws, Honora Causa. After serving the college community, Fr. Davis returned to work in the parishes. He served first as pastor of St. Paul's Church in Jersey City, then Ascension Church in New Milford, from which he retired in June of 1993.

During his summers in Maine he learned to be an expert yachtsman, competing in races sponsored by the local yacht club. Loving the great outdoors, Fr. Tom also became an avid skier and spent his free time in the winter on the slopes of New England and Colorado.

Survivors include his brother, Robert; and sister-in-law, Ann Hogan Davis, living in Purchase, New York, as well as six nieces and nephews; and 12 grandnieces and grandnephews.

Richard Walker Davidson
1998-02-26

LINCOLNVILLE Richard Walker Davidson, 81, died January 22, 1998, at his home on Wiley's Neck on Megunticook Lake.

Born September 29, 1916, in Chicago, IL, and raised in Manhasset, Long Island, NY, he graduated from Amherst College in 1939 with a master's degree in economics. At Amherst, where he was a member of Chi Psi fraternity, he was a four-year letterman in football and captain of he team.

On September 14, 1940, he married Anne Louise Richard.

In 1942, Mr. Davidson joined Parker & Co., pioneers in aviation and marine insurance brokerage and reinsurance. During World War II, he served as chief executive officer of the Pyrate Corp. Returning to Parker & Co. after the war, he was named vice president in 1960, president in 1966 and then chairman of the board. He retired in the mid-1980s.

At Parker & Co., Mr. Davidson was a member of the first group or civilians to fly in the Boeing 707. Later, when terrorists blew up a Pan Am jet on the runway at Cairo (Egypt) Airport, he was instrumental in developing liability policies for acts of terrorism involving airline.

Mr. Davidson was a former member of the board of directors of Flight Safety International. He belonged to the Union League and University Clubs of New York and was a member and past president of the New Canaan (CN) Country Club. He was also a member of the Wings Club, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland, and the Pine Valley (NJ) Country Club, and he held a a seat with Lloyds of London.

In Maine, Mr. Davidson was a member of the Camden Rotary Club, where he was elected a Paul Harris Fellow and the Megunticook Golf Club. He served on the board of trustees of the Camden Public Library and was a charter member and past president of the Megunticook Watershed Association. He was a member of the Nature Conservancy and active throughout in his life in Amherst College alumni affairs.

In 1983 he and his wife were presented with an Environmental Award by the Rockport-Camden-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Davidson, of Lincolnville; his son, Richard B. Davidson, headmaster of Hebron Academy, and his wife Helen T. Davidson of Hebron; two daughters, Anne Elizabeth Davidson Kidder and her husband Rushworth Kidder, Lincolnville and Jane Davidson Kopp and her husband, Donald Alvin Kopp, of West Buxton; 11 grandchildren, Sean Donahue of Washington, DC, Kristin Lehmann of Binghamton, NY, Samantha Jane Davidson of San Francisco, CA, Anne Hoe Davidson of Burlington, VT, Emily Davidson Pulsifer of Lexington, VA, Richard Angus Davidson of Hebron, Heather Kidder Godwin of Raleigh, NC, Abby Elizabeth Kidder of Lincolnville, Ian Donald Kopp of Topsham, Laird Davidson Kopp of Vizcaya, Spain, and Darby Richard Kopp of Swarthmore, PA and two great-grandchildren, Henry Christopher Lehmann of Binghamton and Liam Walker Pulsifer of Lexington.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Instead of flowers, those who wish make make contributions to the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League Building Fund, 12 Norumbega Dr., Camden, ME 04843.

Arrangements were by Laite & Pratt Funeral Home, Camden.

A. Howard Davison
1999-12-09

A. Howard "Howie" Davison, 82, of Edgecomb, died Thursday, December 2 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor following a brief illness.

Born May 21, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the eldest son of Estelle and Elmer Davison.

Mr. Davison grew up in Brooklyn and Larchmont, New York and summered at the family cottage in Round Pond. He attended Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville and returned to New York to graduate from Mamaroneck High School.

Mr. Davison returned to the Damariscotta area and opened his own record store. He was drafted in 1941 and served five years at various stateside military bases as a member of the Army's Signal Corps. He returned to Maine and in the early 1950s purchased the Merry Farm homestead on the River Road in Edgecomb.

In 1951 the Merry Barn opened for business and Mr. Davison turned it into the most popular nightspot in the mid-coast area. He hosted a wide variety of musical events including square dances, record hops, and live bands. He was well-known throughout Maine and New England for his calling and traveled to many town halls, including local island communities to provide an evening of dancing and entertainment.

After retiring from calling Mr. Davison dedicated over 20 years of volunteer service providing music programs and sing-a-longs for area nursing homes. His years were spent bringing enjoyment to others through music.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hilton Davison of Edgecomb; one son, Hoard H. Davison of Bancroft; two daughters, Beth D. Weller of Falmouth, and Heather R. Webster of Norridgewock,; one brother, Elmer J. Davison of Round Pond; and five grandchildren.

A remembrance service in celebration of Mr. Davison's life was held on Sunday, December 5 at the Edgecomb Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

Charles Davison, Sr.
1999-01-15

Charles Michael Davison, Sr., of Raymond, died Tuesday at a Portland hospital.

Mr. Davison was born in Portland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davison, of Raymond.

He is survived by three sons, Michael, Timothy and Stephen, all of Raymond; two daughters, Shirley Davison, of Raymond, and Michelle Davison, of Gray; three brothers, James, of Raymond, Paul, of New Gloucester, and Rick, of Raymond; one sister, Patricia Rogers, of Mechanic Falls; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were private, with arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, of Gray.

Corinne S. Davis
1998-08-13

SEMINOLE, FLA. Corinne S. Davis, 83, formerly of Rumford, died Wednesday, August 5, 1998 at her residence in Seminole, Fla. where she resided since 1974.

She was born in Rumford on August 15, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Sadie (Ayotte) Ross, and had attended schools in Rumford.

Mrs. Davis, with her husband Ted, had owned and operated the Davis Florist in Rumford for over 30 years prior to moving to Florida.

She was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church; Member of Mt. Zircon Chapter #142, O.E.S.; Formerly active in the Rumford Study Club and the Rumford Community Hospital Auxiliary where for many years she chaired the Virginia Booth of the Hospital Fair. She had been active in the Rumford Community including the Mary & Martha Club of the Virgin Memorial Chapel.

She was married in Portsmouth, N.H. to Theodore `Ted' Davis who survives of Seminole, FL. Other survivors include a son, Eugene `Punky' and his wife Huguette Davis of Bethel; three grandchildren, Mrs. Susan Phillips of Cumberland Center,; Peter and his wife Lynn Davis of Pownal, and Paul Davis of San Fransisco, CA; two great grandchildren, Lauren and David Phillips, III of Cumberland Center.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, August 12, 1998 at St. Athanasius-St. John Church in Rumford. Interment in the Sunnyside cemetery in Rumford.

Those who desire, please contribute to the Hospice of Florida Sun Coast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, FL. 33770-3770 in her memory. Arrangements were under the care of the Meader and Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin Street, Rumford.

Shannon Davison
1999-01-01

Shannon Brookings Davison, 20, of New Gloucester, died Christmas Eve as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Massachusetts.

Michelle Leavitt, a junior at Gray-New Gloucester High School, also of New Gloucester, was injured in the accident, but is expected to recover.

Shannon was born in Portland, a daughter of Paul and Marcia Brookings Davison. She graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School in 1997, and was a second-yearstudent at the University of Maine in Presque Isle.

Shannon enjoyed hiking, camping and music. She liked helping people, and planned to join the Peace Corps after college.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Benjamin, and her maternal grandparents, Lowell and Barbara Brookings, of New Gloucester, and paternal grandparents, Charles and Catherine Davison, of Raymond.

Memorial donations may be made to the Shannon Davison Memorial Fund, 19 Libby Hill Road, Gray, ME 04039.

Ella Dow Tayman
1999-01-01

Ella Dow Tayman, 72, of Gray, died December 25 at a Portland nursing home.

Born in Portland, Mrs. Tayman was the daughter of Reverend Chauncey and Ella Dow Harding. She graduated from Winslow High School, and worked at Songo Shoe and Fairchild. She married Melvin E. Tayman in 1947. She was an avid Boston Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots fan.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1992. Mrs. Tayman is survived by two sons, Robert E. Tayman, of Gray, and Richard E. Tayman, of Portland; two brothers, Charles Harding, of Naples, FL, and Lawrence Harding, of Portland; one sister, Elizabeth Pettingill, of Kissimee, FL; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were private. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
