Ruth E. (Andrews) Dunham
1998-07-30

WEST PARIS Ruth E. (Andrews) Dunham, 87, formerly of Bryant Pond, widow of Theodore Dunham, died Saturday, JUly 25, 1998, at Ledgeview Nursing Home.

She was born at Bethel, September 8, 1910, the daughter of the late Arthur and Bessie (Grover) Andrews. She attended Woodstock schools.

On October 21, 1929, she married Theodore R. Dunham.

Mrs. Dunham had worked at Mann's Mill in Bryant Pond.

She was a member of Judith Grover Tent #17, of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Bryant Pond.

She enjoyed bird watching, embroidery, and making lace for pillowcases

Survivors include two daughters, Bessie House of Bryant Pond and Mary McMillan of Bethel and Eustis, Florida; a son, Roland Dunham of West Paris; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Ruth Scribner; two sisters, Helen Ring and Alice Wardwell; a grandson, David McMillan and a great-grandson, Steve Owens Jr.

Graveside services were held Monday at the Hunt's Corner cemetery in Albany.

Those who desire may make contributions to Hunt's Corner cemetery Association, c/o Edwin Bumpus, RFD 1, Box 2155, North Waterford, ME 04267.

Arrangements were under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home in South Woodstock.

Judith Virginia Dunn
1999-06-10

LEWISTON - Judith Virginia Dunn, 88, a resident of the Bald Hill Road, New Gloucester, died Sunday, May 30, at Marshwood Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for four days, following a long illness.

She was born in Acton, MA, March 29, 1911, the daughter of William S. and Annie Vinal Dunn. She was educated in the grammar schools of Acton and was a graduate of Avon High School.

Miss Dunn, along with her father and brother, Malcolm Dunn, owned and operated Dunn's Dairy and Creamery Farm in Acton until the mid 1960s.

In 1960, Miss Dunn with her brother, Malcolm, established Dunn's Camps in Oxford, located on Whitney and Hogan Ponds. These Christian, non-profit, resort camps were and still are operated as a retreat for ministers, missionaries, and lay people.

As a result of the resort camps being started, the William S. Dunn Memorial Foundation was established as well.

Miss Dunn was a member for many years of the Marston's Corner Baptist Church of Auburn and presently was a member of the New Gloucester Bible Church.

She enjoyed traveling, especially wintering in Florida these last few seasons and writing. Miss Dunn authored the book, Malcolm R. Dunn, In God We Trust in her 80s. She enjoyed very much receiving visitors and was known as a woman who had a servant's heart, a servant of the Lord. Her favorite scripture from the Bible was John 3:16. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Storey of Westboro, MA; her adopted niece, with whom she had resided for many years, Rhonda Field of New Gloucester; and several nieces and nephews, including Ronnie Dunn, Elizabeth Pratley, Dot Graham, Dr. David Storey, Alan Storey, Carlton Dunn, Durwyn Dunn, Marilyn Denzer, Lynneice Powling, and Allene Cobb.

She was predeceased by five brothers, Albert, Cecil, Edward, Robert, and Malcolm.

Norma A. Dunton
1999-01-21

NORWAY - Norma A. Dunton, 75, of Norway died Monday January 11, 1999 at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

She was born in Plymouth, Maine on December 3, 1923, the daughter of James and Laura Young McIntire. She was educated in Plymouth schools.

She was employed for many years as a shoe worker at Eastland shoe in Freeport.

She married S. Aubrey Dunton December 19, 1942 and he died on July 20, 1997.

She is survived by one son, Jerry of Norfolk, MA; two sisters, Geraldine Dunton of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Janet Brunjes of Norway and one grandson, Daniel Dunton of Brunswick.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at a time and date to be announced later.

Donations in Mrs. Dunton's memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, Box 346 Augusta, ME 04330.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Fun" Home, Norway.

Anna M. Duren
1999-02-25

NORWAY - Anna M. Duren, 80, of Pequawket Trail, Steep Falls, died Tuesday, February 16. at Stephens Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Mrs. Duren was born in North Sebago, the daughter of Guy and Bertha Gregory Smith and graduated from Standish High School in 1936.

She was a homemaker and had also been a domestic for the Gregory Family in North Sebago, the Gunter/Anderson Family in Steep Falls and the Hawes Family in Portland.

Mrs. Duren was a life member of Standish Senior Citizens and a life long member and deacon emeritus of Steep Falls Baptist Church. She was known as the Sunshine Lady at the church and served on every committee and board of the church. She had taught Sunday School there for 25 years and had been the church janitor for 30 years.

She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, gardening, the out-of-doors and specialized in quilt making. She also enjoyed trips to the Rangeley area and moose and bird watching.

Her husband, Harold M. Duren, died in January, 1967. She was also predeceased by a sister, Beulah Estes.

Surviving her are one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Bertha) Nason of Otisfield; two sisters, Alice E. Smith of Steep Falls and Katherine L. Durant of Bailey Island; three grandchildren, Sara L. Nason of Tenants Harbor, Mrs. Shawn (Lisa) Smith of Oxford and Harold C. Nason of Otisfield; one niece; several nephews and several cousins.

Visiting hours were held on Thursday, February 18, at the Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel in Gorham.

A funeral service was held on Friday, February 19, at the Steep falls Baptist Church with the Reverend Stephen Finch officiating. The pallbearers were Richard Nason, Harold Nason, Shawn Smith, Roger LeGoff, Robert Durant and Donald Gregory. Spring burial will be in the Steep Falls Cemetery.

Those desiring may contribute in her memory to the Steep Falls Baptist Church, P.C. Box 26, Steep Falls, ME 04085.

George Durfee
1999-09-23

George W. ``Pop" Durfee, 67, of Boothbay Harbor died Friday, September 17, at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

He was born July 3, 1932 in Boothbay Harbor, the son of William and Grace Pinkham Durfee, and attended local schools. He started lobstering at age 14, and was a lobsterman all his life. He loved to talk to other fishermen about the business, and was well known for his dry sense of humor, honesty, and directness. He was a strong family man.

Mr. Durfee served in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was predeceased by a son, George W. Durfee II, who died in 1991.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Joyce Barlow Durfee of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Lorna-Jeanne and her husband, Steve Earle, of Boothbay Harbor and Laurie Ruth Durfee of Boothbay Harbor; a son, Lawrence W. Durfee of Boothbay Harbor; a brother, Lawrence Durfee, and a sister, Virginia Pearce, both of Boothbay Harbor; three grandchildren, Stephanie Earle, Heather Anne and Alexander Durfee, all of Boothbay Harbor; several cousins and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 22 at 2 p.m. at the Boothbay Baptist Church with Rev. Dan McNutt officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay. Donations may be made in his memory to the Fishermen's Memorial Fund, RR 1, Box 315, Back River Road, Boothbay 04537. Arrangements were under the direction of Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Louise May Dustin
1998-11-26

WEST PARIS - Louise May Dustin, 73, of Otisfield and Norway died Sunday, November 22, 1998, after a long illness.

She was born in Sweden, Maine, on December 2, 1924, the daughter of Luther Kimball. She was educated in Sweden schools and was a homemaker most of her life.

Mrs. Dustin liked attending beano, and playing cards. She is survived by her husband, Herbert Libby, of Town and Country Trailer Park in Norway; five daughters, Linda Foster of Oxford, Lottie Howes and Lorraine Dustin, both of Massachusetts, Lynn Lavoie of Lisbon, and Louann Dustin-Hunter of Brunswick; one son, Lewis Dustin of Oxford; one brother Frankie Kimball of South Paris, two sisters Alberta Whittemore of Norway and Kathleen Clark of Florida, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Dustin was predeceased by her husband and father of her children, Leon Dustin, in 1959; five sisters, Ethel Fortin, Leona Travers, Mildred (Minnie) Morrissette, Gertrude Sessions, and Abby Jones; two brothers, Richard Kimball and Charlie Kimball.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home 45 Main St., South Paris. Interment will be in the Riverside cemetery in Oxford.

Alfred F. Duttweiler
2000-01-20

Alfred Frederick Duttweiler, 75, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 15, 2000 in a Jacksonville Beach, Florida hospital. A native of Buffalo, New York, Mr. Duttweiler was a resident of Ponte Vedra Beach. Mr. Duttweiler was a veteran of the Marine Corps during World War II and an avid equestrian and boater.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth K. Duttweiler of Ponte Vedra Beach; one son, Mark Duttweiler of Palm Bay, Fla.; three daughters, Ellen Roffis of Princeton, N.J., Ann Himmel of Topsfield, Mass., and Mary Warner of Fairfax, Va.; one brother, David Duttweiler of Clemson, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be made in Mr. Duttweiler's memory to the Boothbay Region Animal Center. A private family memorial service is scheduled at a later date.

Fern H. Damon
1999-01-07

SOUTH PARIS - Fern H. Damon, 93 of Hillside Ave.,died Friday morning at Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born September 9, 1905, the daughter of George and Annie Grant Kennedy.

She graduated from Kingfield High School and Farmington Normal School.

She taught school in the one room schoolhouse in Kingfield. She worked at the Hebron Sanatorium as a secretary to Dr. Adams after her marriage to Lerone Damon who worked as the farm boss at the sanatorium.

They moved to Connecticut where she worked as a dorm mother at a secure home for troubled girls.

Mrs. Damon made her home in South Paris for over 40 years and was a member of the South Paris Baptist Church. Her family were the most important people in her life.

She is survived by two nieces, Jeannette Baldridge of Norway and Nancy Harbick of Las Vegas, Nevada and two nephews, Jimmy Kennedy of Farmington,New Mexico and Robert Kennedy of New Sharon.

Mrs. Damon was predeceased by her husband, Lerone; a sister, Stella Pierrez; four brothers Charles, Maurice and Fred Kennedy,and Roland Kennedy.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home ,South Paris.Spring Interment will be in Riverside Annex Cemetery, South Paris.

William C. Damon
1998-12-31

PORTLAND - William C. Damon, 88, of North Yarmouth died Monday, December 21, at Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Paris on July 22, 1910, the son of George and Etta Virtue Damon. He was educated in Norway schools.

He married the former Evelyn Brown on October 22, 1932. He worked at C.B. Cummings mill in Norway and the shipyard in Portland. For many years he worked with his brothers, George and Edward at Damon Brothers Sawmills on Cottage Street in Norway,. He always had a dog until later years and was very fond of them all.

He enjoyed stock car racing at Oxford Plains Speedway that his brother George built in 1950. He lived in Norway for many years, then Milford, CT and in North Yarmouth near his son in recent years.

He is survived by his wife; five sons and their families, William J. and his wife Beatrice of Norway, Fred and his wife Natalie and James all of North Yarmouth, Robert and his wife Rosalie of Auburn, Jerry and his wife Cathy of Milford, CT; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, George, Edward and Clarence; four sisters, Amelia, Edith, Gladys and Mabel, in addition to an infant brother and sister who were twins and who died shortly after birth.

Funeral services were held on December 24,with the Rev. Norman Jackson officiating and burial was in Poland Pine Grove Cemetery. Bearers were eight of his grandchildren.

Donations in Mr. Damon's memory may be made to Market Square Activity Fund, 3 Market Square, South Paris, ME 04281 or other charities of your choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.
