Roland M. "Pee-Wee" Damon
1998-03-26

NORWAY Roland M. `Pee-Wee' Damon, 48, of Buckfield died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Stephens Memorial Hospital. He was born in Lewiston on July 9, 1949, the son of Norman F. and Francis Gesner Damon. He graduated from Buckfield High School.

Mr. Damon married Martha Henderson on March 23, 1968. He worked for General Electric for 30 years as a special processing engineer. He started in their apprentice program in New York, went to King of Prussia, PA, for a few years and came back to live in Buckfield and work for General Electric of Auburn in 1969. He was active in the Fellowship Church in Greene.

Mr. Damon loved hunting, fly fishing and archery at his camp in Eustis. He also enjoyed a game of racquetball or tennis with friends.

He is survived by his wife of Buckfield; two sons Mathew of Toledo, OH and Daniel of Storrs, CT; three brothers, Alwood of Buckfield, Bradley and Ross of Auburn; three sisters, Bobby Jean Gates of Turner, Marcia Buswell and Leah Frechette of Buckfield and several nieces and nephews.

A time of remembrance was held Tuesday evening March 24 from at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris. A memorial service was held Wednesday in the Buckfield Community Church with Rev. Eva Thompson and Rev. Richard Baril officiating.

Donations Mr. Damon's memory can be made to the Buckfield High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, c/o Treasurer Cindy Millett, W. Bethel Rd., Bethel, ME 04217.

William J. Doucette
2000-04-20

William J. "Blackie" Doucette, 82, of Boothbay, died Monday, April 17 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta

Born July 8, 1917 in Chelsea, Massachusetts, he was the son of Emanuel and Minnie Peneau Doucette

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army

Mr. Doucette was a member of Iron Workers Local #496 and worked on many projects throughout New England including the Towers in Cutler, Andover Telstar and many bridges and dams. He was an avid fisherman and fished in many lakes all over Maine. He was an active member of the Boothbay Region Fish & Game, Charles E. Sherman Jr

American Legion, Post #36, and a life member of the NRA

He was predeceased by his wife Elsie Brackett Doucette

Survivors include a sister, Eva Kilbreth of Mexico; and half-sister, Bernice Ferrioli of Wakefield, Massachusetts

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 12 at the Oaklawn cemetery in Boothbay Harbor. The Charles E. Sherman Jr. American Legion, Post #36 will conduct the service

Orman W. Douglass
1999-11-18

Orman W. Douglass, 92, of Wiscasset, died Thursday, November 11 at Mere Point Nursing Home in Brunswick.

Born in Cumberland Mills on February 23, 1907, he was the son of Wilson and Margaret Douglass.

Mr. Douglass attended Richmond schools. In 1929 he was employed by Central Maine Power Company in Augusta line department and served as town representative in Camden. He married Lillian M. Clarke.

Among his community activities, he was a member of Progressive Grange in Richmond Corner and also a member of the State and National Grange since 1924. He was president of the Wiscasset Lions Club. In the 1970s he moved to Wiscasset and for the last four years he lived with his nephew and niece, Stanley Sr. and Patsy Fairservice, in Wiscasset.

Mr. Douglass was an avid hunter and enjoyed helping needy people by fixing their appliances.

He was predeceased by his wife Lillian M. Douglass on September 10, 1983. Survivors include two nephews, Stanley H. Fairservice Sr. and Franklin "Ted" Fairservice, both of Wiscasset; and one niece, Sylvia Averill of Richmond.

Visiting hours were held Sunday, November 14, at the Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset. A funeral service was held on Monday, November 15 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Richard Hall officiating. Burial followed in Forest Hills cemetery in Bridgton.

Allene A. Dwinell
2000-08-10

Allene A. Dwinell, 94, of Pemaquid, died at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro on Tuesday, August 8.

Born in Bristol on February 24, 1906, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Nora (Reeves) Crocker.

Mrs. Dwinell attended Bristol Schools, and in May of 1930, she married Carroll Lincoln Dwinell. They lived in Chamberlain and Pemaquid, and together they operated "Link's Lobster Pound" at Pemaquid Fort. She also operated the snack bar at Pemaquid Beach for many years.

She was the Grand Marshal in the Old Bristol Days Parade for several years, and was active with the Bristol Footlighters from their inception. In the 1960s and 1970s she produced and directed the Tom Thumb Minstrel Shows, also in Bristol.

She was predeceased by her husband and two sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Reilly of New Harbor; two sisters, Geraldine Paradis of Windsor, and Louise Bickford of Pittston; one brother, Carlton Crocker of Carmel; three grandchildren, Carol Lee Crocker and Carl E. Reilly Jr., both of New Harbor, and Kim Reilly Hodgdon of Southport; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

A funeral will be held at the New Harbor United Methodist Church on Friday, August 11 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Old Fort cemetery in Pemaquid.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Harbor United Methodist Church, or to the Bristol First Responders. Arrangements are under the direction of the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta.

Mr. Philip W. Durkin
2000-06-15

SOUTHPARIS-Philip W. Durkin, 68, of North Waterford, formerly of Peabody, MA, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at Market Square Health Care Center.

He was born in Salem, MA on January 27, 1932, the son of James and Mary Buckley Durkin. He graduated from Salem High School in 1951 and attended Cohen Electrical School.

He worked for Sylvania Solutions and Supplies for 15 years. He retired from Peabody Light, working as a power station operator.

He served his country faithfully in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean War.

He married the former J. Doris Courtney on December 16, 1966.

They lived in Peabody, MA, moving to North Waterford 6 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of North Waterford; a daughter, Leslie Miller of Norway; three sons, Richard, Robert and Ronald Shruhan all of Peabody, MA; one sister, A. Kathleen Durkin of Salem, MA and one brother, James F. Durkin of Austin, TX, as well as nine grandchildren.

Family and friends may attend visitation on Friday, June 9,from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway, ME.

In lieu of flowers those who wish may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, Box 456, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011.

Leon E. Duprey
2000-09-14

Leon E. Duprey, 87, of Southport, died Tuesday, September 11 at Springbrook Center in Westbrook.

Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn M. Barton of Baltimore, Md., and Terri A. Dumont of Southboro, Mass.; one granddaughter; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; a great-great-granddaughter; brother, Eugene Picard of Mars Hill; two sisters, Florence Graham of Ashland and Cleo Bernier of Gray; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A complete obituary will appear in next week's edition of the paper.

Visiting hours will be held at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 15 with an Evening Masonic Service conducted at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 10 a.m. at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Stone officiating. Burial will be in the Decker Cemetery, Southport.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boothbay Region YMCA, Shriners Hospital, or Charles E. Sherman Jr. Post #36.

Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Perley M. Dunton
2000-03-30

Perley Milton Dunton, 92, of Edgecomb, died Tuesday, March 28 at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor.

Born in Edgecomb, he was a son of Fred and Mary Burnham Dunton. Mr. Dunton managed a lumber mill for many years, and later a mill that made lobster-trap stock.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Dunton's pastimes included hunting and camping at his camp in Plymouth, and tinkering on cars.

His wife, Edythe Merrill Dunton, died in 1993.

Surviving are a son, Albert of Leesburg, Florida; two daughters, Marjorie Thompson of Florida and Joan Swift of Connecticut; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Williams of Edgecomb; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private burial will be in North Edgecomb Cemetery. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Mrs. Ruth Arlene Duncanson
2000-09-14

PORTLAND - Ruth Arlene Duncanson, 69, of Norway died Tuesday, September 5, 2000 at Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Stow, MA on February 11, 1931, the daughter of Jerry and Heda Peterson Anderson.

She graduated, valedictorian of her class, from Stow High School.

She had worked for Opportunities, Inc. in Norway and had been an administrator at other companies as well. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed traveling and quilting. She had been a long-time resident of Stow, MA.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Walter (Larry) Duncanson of Norway; her mother of West Paris; three sons, Steven L. of Milford, NH, Paul A. of Franklin, NH, and Scott L. of Lunenburg, MA; a brother, Jerry Anderson of Cinncinati, OH and six grandchildren.

Memorial Services were held on Friday, September 8, at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, September 9, at the Brookside cemetery in Stow, MA.

Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the American Heart Association, Box 346, Augusta, ME 04330 or the Arthritis Foundation, 930 Brighton Avenue, Portland, ME 04102.

Chester Duff
2000-08-24

Chester L. Duff Jr., of Heritage Village, Connecticut, husband of Dawn Duff-Sharp, died Monday, August 21 at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. He was 88.

Mr. Duff was born July 4, 1912 in Syracuse, New York, son of the late Chester L. Sr. and Ruth Dower Duff. He was a native of Syracuse and a 20-year resident of the Pasadena, California area. He was a graduate of The Wharton School in Pennsylvania, Class of 1935. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander from the U.S. Naval Reserve after 20 years, including three years active duty during World War II, where he was a Commander of SC 636 in the Pacific.

A financial manager, he worked in that capacity for many companies, most recently as assistant treasurer for W.R. Grace and Company in New York City. During his retirement, he was a 20-year summer resident of Boothbay where in 1980 he was instrumental in forming the Boothbay Region Land Trust. He was also past president of the South Pasadena Rotary Club, a member of the Damariscotta/Newcastle Rotary Club, and former president of the Heritage Village Camera Club.

Besides his wife of Southbury, he is survived by a sister, Margaret Pratt of Virginia. He was predeceased by his first wife of over 50 years, Marjorie Lovett Duff .

There will be no funeral services. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The Southbury Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Contributions in Mr. Duff's name may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
