Dr. Herbert Davidson Ferris
1999-11-11

HOUSTON - Herbert Davidson Ferris went to his final home on November 7, 1999 in Houston, Texas at the age of 90.

He was born May 3, 1909 in the Bronx, New York. He graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1928 and Cornell University in 1932. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. He also graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery in 1937 and was a member of Psi Sigma Alpha.

On January 23, 1933 he married Laura Evelyn Hunter and they moved to Maine in 1938. He had a family practice in Oxford and Mechanic Falls until his retirement in June of 1974.

Dr. Ferris was a member of Kiwanis, the Masonic Lodge Council Chapter, Scottish Rite Valley of the Androscoggin, and Oxford Lodge 18.

He was a member of the Congregational Church in Oxford and he enjoyed skiing, hunting, fishing, boating and gardening.

Dr. Ferris was predeceased by his parents, Herbert William Ferris and Colina Davidson Ferris; one brother, Douglas Ferris and his wife, Laura Hunter Ferris.

He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Ferris Newton of Freeport, Texas; daughter, Cynthia Anne Fricks, of Houston, Texas; son, Herbert James Ferris of Bowdoin, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church in Oxford on Monday, November 15, 1999 at 11 a.m. There will be a private burial service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to River Ridge Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center, 79 Cat Mousam Road, Kennebunk, ME 04043, or to your favorite charity.

Mr. Kenneth W. Fone
1999-10-07

PORTLAND - Kenneth W. Fone, 63, of Denmark, formerly of Cohasset, MA, died Saturday, October 2, after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Quincy, MA, he was a 1953 graduate of North Quincy High School and a 1957 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, MA.

Mr. Fone worked at W.R. Grace for 36 years, retiring in 1995.

Throughout his distinguished career, he held a number of sales and marketing management positions - most recently as the Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Grace Construction Products.

Throughout his career. Mr. Fone was actively involved in a variety of key construction industry associations on both the local and national level.

Upon his retirement, he moved to Denmark, where he became an active member of the Denmark Lions Club.

In 1998, he was voted Lion of the Year in recognition of his commitment of making the Centennial Field Project a reality. This project exemplified Mr. Fone's lifelong support of local youth.

Mr. Fone is survived by his wife of 40 years, Suzanne (Black) Fone of Denmark; a son, Scott Fone of Bath; a daughter, Joanna Aman of Jacksonville, FL; and two grandchildren, Delaney and Zachary Fone of Bath.

A memorial service was held on October 6, at 9 a.m. at the Denmark Congregational Church.

Arrangements were under the care of the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home in Bridgton.

Phyllis B. Forbes
1998-07-02

Phyllis Bourne Forbes, 87, of Newton, Mass. and Boothbay Harbor died Monday, March 23.

Born June 14, 1910 in Waban, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Austin G. Bourne and Ruth B. Bourne of Waban and Boothbay Harbor.

Mrs. Forbes was a summer resident of Sprucewold since 1928 where her father built a summer home. She was a graduate of the Misses Allen School for Girls and Skidmore College, Class of 1932.

She was predeceased by her husband, Curtis B. Forbes, in 1977.

Surviving are her daughters, Judith F. Wooley of Natick, Mass., Jean F. Ballo of Emmaus, Penn.; four grandchildren, Kristine W. Herold of Glastonbury, Conn., Kenneth B. Wooley of Natick, Mass., Lee R. Ballo of Emmaus, Penn., and Brett M. Ballo of Bloomsburg, Penn.; two greatgrandchildren, Curtis B. Herold and Taylor G. Herold; and her brother, Earl B. Bourne of Yarmouthport, Mass.

Funeral services were private. Memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Forbes' memory to the Boothbay Region Humane Society, P.O. Box 583, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Frances Foss
1999-02-04

Frances Foss, 84, died Monday, February 1 in Bozrah, Connecticut, at her daughter's home.

Born June 22, 1914 in Boothbay Harbor, she was the daughter of the late Gardner and Jennie Williams.

On June 11, 1942 she married John W. Foss in Boothbay Harbor.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheilagh Morgan and son-in-law, Douglas E. Morgan of Bozrah; two grandchildren, Miria J. Morgan, and John E. Morgan; and two nieces.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 20 at 6 p.m. at the home of Sheilagh and Douglas Morgan of Bozrah. Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich, Connecticut is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Community Church of Norwich 564-4411.

Mrs. Florence A. Foss
1999-12-09

LEWISTON -Florence A. Foss, 58, of Minot died Tuesday, November 30, 1999, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in Lovell, December 24, 1940, the daughter of Lawrence and Hattie Irish Bean.

She attended the Verrill School in Minot and had worked as a mental health worker for the State of Maine.

She enjoyed country western dancing, her dog Pebbles and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was married to Russell Foss who died June 28,1983.

She is survived by the father of her children George Hemond of Minot; four children, Alfred Hemond of Minot, Donald and his wife, Serae, Hemond of Minot, Rosemarie and Jim Marcoux of New Kingstown,R.I. and Albert and his wife, Jeannine, Hemond of Minot; three step sons, Brian and his wife, Denise, Foss of Minot, Edward Hemond of Florida and Raymond and his wife, Julie ,Hemond of Massachusetts; four sisters, Elsie Thompson of Bridgton, Pauline Norton of Waterford, Mary Millett of Norway and Camilla Mowatt of Oxford;a brother, Lyman Rogers, of Norway; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Leon and Perley Bean, Roswell Brown and James Richards; three sisters, Elizabeth Yeaton, Lillian Edwards and Phyllis Millett.

Family and friends attended graveside services Thursday, December 2 at the Riverside Cemetery, West Minot.

Those who wish may make memorial gifts in her memory to the Arthritis Foundation, 930 Brighton Ave., Portland.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls.

Alma B. Foster
1999-06-10

Alma B. Foster, 91, of Arcadia, Florida, formerly of Skowhegan, died at DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Arcadia on Saturday, May 30 following a brief period of illness.

Wife of the late Lionel ``Buster" E. Foster, former publisher and owner of the Somerset Reporter in Skowhegan, she moved with her husband to Florida permanently 20 years ago to be near their daughter Andrea Whittaker and family of Arcadia. They spent several summers in Florida before becoming year-round residents.

Born in Madawaska, the daughter of Delphine and Adjutore Bernier, she lived most of her earlier life in Skowhegan where she married and raised her two children.

Before she was married, she worked several years as a dental assistant. After marriage, she worked on her husband's newspaper occasionally.

Mrs. Foster was known for her warm personality, joyful outlook and gift of hospitality. When the late President Dwight D. Eisenhower visited Maine, she was hostess for a reception in Skowhegan for his wife Mamie.

She was actively involved in her home church, Our Lady of Lourdes in Skowhegan. There she was a 70-year charter member of the Daughters of Isabella and was also a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She served in every office in the Daughters of Isabella except regent.

Other organizations she contributed much time to are the Skowhegan Woman's Club and the Arcadia Tourist Club. She attended St. Paul's Catholic Church in Arcadia in later years.

Survivors include her daughter, Andrea Whittaker of Arcadia, Florida; one son, Rev. Gregory Foster of Wiscasset; one sister, Catherine Graves of West Palm Beach; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Daniel, who died a few weeks after birth.

In celebration of her life there was a funeral mass at St. Paul's Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 2 followed by a committal service at Oakridge cemetery in Arcadia.

Alma B. Foster

Margaret Fotos
1998-12-17

Margaret Fotos, 74, died Thursday, December 10 at her home on Sawyer's Island, Boothbay.

Born May 11, 1924 in Everett, Mass., she was the daughter of Alexander and Margaret Thompson Burrell. She was a graduate of Everett High School.

On October 2, 1948 she married George Fotos. They formerly lived in Everett, Malden, Melrose and Peabody, Mass. before retiring to the Boothbay Region in 1980.

Mrs. Fotos was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, singing in the choir and crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, Women's Fellowship, Sawyer's Island Association, Boothbay Region Garden Club, Monday Club and the St. Andrews Society.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, George Fotos of Boothbay; four sons, Stephen Fotos of Peabody, Mass., Ronald Fotos of Atlanta, Ga., David Fotos of Reading, Mass., and Philip Fotos of Nashua, N.H.; one daughter, Heather Houde of Eldersburg, Md.; two brothers, John Burrell of Old Bridge, N.J., and George Burrell of Melrose, Mass; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 12 at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor. The Rev. Peter Baldwin Panagore officiated.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Congregational Church, Friends of the Music Fund, 1 Eastern Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Arrangements were under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.
