Gertrude French
2000-08-24

NORWAY - Gertrude A. French, 84, of Norway died Monday August 21, 2000 at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born in Norway on May 4, 1916 the daughter of Lewis and Ada Merrill Pushard.

She attended Norway schools and she married Philip L. French on September 28, 1934. Both of them lived in Norway all their lives.

Mr. French predeceased Mrs. French on August 14, 1974.

Mrs. French worked in the local shoe shops all her life.

She is survived by two sons, Clarence of Norway and Gary of Oxford; two daughters, Jean Mckeen of Albion and Pearl French of South Paris; two sisters, Mary Korhonen of Norway and Frances Pushard of South Paris and a half sister, Ethel LaCourse of Norway.

She was predeceased by her husband Philip; one daughter, Evangeline Little of Norway, one sister, Ellen Louise Whitman, and a half brother, Lyman Herrick Jr.

There will be a graveside service held Wednesday, August 23 at 10 a.m. in the Pike's Hill cemetery with Rev. Betsy Webber officiating. There are no visiting hours.

Donations in Mrs. French's memory can be made to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral, South Paris.

Mrs. Hildreth Shaw Frost
2000-08-10

BURLINGTON, MA - Hildreth Shaw Frost of Burlington, MA, formerly of Wellesley, and a community newspaper reporter and freelance writer, died Wednesday, July 19, at the Lahey Clinic. She was 82.

Born in Keene, NH in 1918, Mrs. Frost graduated from Norway High School 1936. She moved to Boston where she attended Bryant & Stratton and became one of the first medical records librarians at the Brooks Hospital in Brookline, MA.

Mrs. Frost was on the editorial staff of The Waltham News-Tribune for 16 years and a part-time reporter for The Wellesley Townsman, both in Massachusetts. Her features have appeared in several other New England newspapers and magazines. She authored pamphlets for the Unitarian-Universalist Association, headquarted in Boston and was employed as the Alumni Editor at Babson College in Wellesley prior to commencing her reporting career.

Mrs. Frost also wrote and published children's stories as a consequence of her own curiosity regarding marine life and living among the Isles of Shoals, off the New Hampshire coast, where she and her family spent many summer seasons as staff members at the Star Island Conference Center. Professional affiliations included the National League of American Pen Women, Women in Communications, The Newspaper Guild of Boston, the Manuscript Club of Boston, and the Writers' Group until her illness. She was always involved as a volunteer, giving generously of her time, writing, and sewing skills throughout her life.

Mrs. Frost was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Robert Vernon Frost, and by her son, Dana Stanley Frost, killed in action in Vietnam in 1965. She is survived by her son Robert H. Frost of Portsmouth, NH; her daughter Sara Frost Schoman of Lexington, MA; and her sister Vesta Shaw Waldron of So. Windsor, CT. She also leaves her grandchildren: Daniel Frost of Madison, WI; Brady Webster Frost of Washington, D.C.; Nathaniel Edward Schoman of Lexington, MA; and Valerie Hildreth Schoman of Lowell, MA.

Interment service will be at 1 p.m. on August 17, at Norway Pine Grove cemetery in South Paris. There will be a memorial service at the Unitarian Society of Wellesley Hills in Wellesley, MA at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 24.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Frost's memory to The Star Island Corporation, 10 Vaughn Mall, Suite #8, Worth Plaza, Portsmouth, NH 03801, to the Friends of the UUA c/o The Unitarian Universalist Association, 25 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02108, or a charity of your choice.

Mr. Lloyd C. Fuller

WEST PARIS - Lloyd C. Fuller, 87, of West Paris, died Saturday, September 9, 2000 at the Ledgeview Living Center.

Mr. Fuller was born in West Peru on May 13, 1913, the son of the late Herman L. and Eva (Dixon) Fuller.

He attended the Bryant Pond schools and worked as a sawyer for P.H. Chadbourne in North Western Maine and New Hampshire.

Mr. Fuller enjoyed playing horseshoes, puzzles, and watching Red Sox games.

He is survived by a daughter, Joy Harding and her husband Jim of Grand Junction, CO; a son, Gary L. Fuller and his wife Esther of Locke Mills, three sisters, Maxine Lovejoy of Bethel, Ardella Gallant and her husband Gerald of Mexico, and Marjorie Fuller of South Paris; a half-sister, Rachel Seeley Parent of Oxford; six grandchildren; 10 great-grand children; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 12, in the Pine Grove Cemetery, West Bethel, with the Rev. Richard Mowery officiating.

Arrangements were by the Greenleaf Funeral Home, Bethel.

Mr. Lloyd C. Fuller

Lila Farrington
2000-08-24

RUMFORD - Funeral services for Mrs. Lila B. Farrington were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, August 14, at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.

Officiating was Pastor Lloyd Waterhouse of the Grace Fellowship Church, Oxford.

Music selections were The Old Rugged Cross and In The Garden.

The poem If Tomorrow Starts Without Me was read by her granddaughter Julie Lothrop. Words of remembrance were given by her daughter Bonnie Vashaw and grandson Dan Richard.

Committal services were conducted by Pastor Lloyd Waterhouse.

Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Andover.

Pall Bearers were Jeremy Vashaw, Andrew Theriault, Reginald Farrington, Jamie Cantelo, Douglas Douglas, Rick Graham Jason Lee and Tom Farrington.

Carolyn Farmer
2001-05-03

Carolyn Farmer, 96, of Wiscasset, died Monday, April 30, at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.

Born in Boothbay January 2, 1905, she was the daughter of George W. and Margaret (Alley) Greenleaf Sr.

She attended Boothbay Harbor schools and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1922. She graduated from Gorham Normal School in Gorham and married Raymond E. Farmer in June 1926. Mrs. Farmer and her husband moved to Honduras for several years while he was employed by United Fruit Company. In 1931 they returned to Wiscasset and she was employed at A&P Tea Company as a clerk.

Mrs. Farmer and her husband owned and operated Farmers Market in Wiscasset retiring in 1965. She spent many winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Mrs. Farmer was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Wiscasset, and enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, reading and playing cribbage.

Survivors include two sons, Roy E. Farmer and his wife Joanne and Wesley E. Farmer Sr., all of Wiscasset; one daughter, June Paulson and her husband Nels of Converse, Texas; one son-in-law, Wilford Cronk Sr. of Wiscasset; eight grandchildren, Kim Haeberle, Jackie Bailey, Terri Misiewicz, Wilford Cronk Jr., David Cronk, Wesley Farmer Jr., Raymond Farmer and Candace Flint; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and great-great-grand-children.

She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond E. Farmer, and by one daughter, Verne Cronk.

Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 3 at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street in Bath. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at St. Philips Episcopal Church, Hodge Street in Wiscasset. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset. A gathering of family and friends will be at St. Philips Episcopal Church Parish Hall after the burial.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Campbell Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1111, Wiscasset, ME 04578 or to a charity of ones choice.

Kora T. Farmer
2001-02-22

Kora Temple Farmer of Southport, died Sunday, February 11 in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Born in Boothbay Harbor April 18, 1907, she was the daughter of Lincoln M. and Daisy Jackson Harris. She attended Boothbay Harbor public schools and graduated in 1929 from the University of New Hampshire. Following her graduation, she was a teacher in the Rockland School District for several years.

On October 10, 1930, she married Franklin Farmer of Southport who died February 15, 1988. They were residents of Portland for three years, then lived in Falmouth for 25 years before retiring to Southport.

While living in Falmouth, Mrs. Farmer was active in several square dance and round dance groups. She was an accomplished classical pianist. She was a member of Southport Methodist Church, College Club of Portland and Chi Omega sorority.

Since 1997, Mrs. Farmer resided primarily with her son, Franklin H. Farmer, in Williamsburg, Va.

Survivors also include a daughter, Lucinda Krauter of Raymond; four grandchildren, Franklin H. Farmer and Scott M. Farmer of Hayes, Va., Clare Farmer Thomas of Gloucester Point, Va., Benjamin B. Krauter of Raymond; and one great-grandchild, Aislee Thomas of Gloucester Point, Va.

A family memorial service was held at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay on Saturday, February 17.

Interment will be in May at Decker cemetery in Southport.

Lois A. Farnham
2001-01-04

Lois A. Farnham, 85, of North Belfast Ave. in Augusta, died Monday, January 1, 2001 at her home after a long illness.

She was born in Boothbay on May 22, 1915, the daughter of Ralph E. and Ruth E. (Adams) Wylie. Mrs. Farnham was a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School. She was the owner of Moeller's Hairdressing in Damariscotta for over 15 years, and had more recently worked for the State of Maine at the Augusta Mental Health Institute for 15 years.

Mrs. Farnham was predeceased by her husband of 20 years, Isaac A. Farnham, and a brother, Clarence E. Wylie.

She is survived by a son, William A. Farnham of Somerville; a daughter, Ardath E. Wood of Vassalboro; three sisters, Jenny Rittle of Nobleboro, Della Cormier of West Bath and Marjorie Goodrich of Edgecomb; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, January 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street in Augusta. A committal service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Fr. Leonard Leclair Memorial Chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.

Ralph E. Farrar
2000-10-12

Ralph E. Farrar, 49, of Bremen, died Wednesday, October 4 at the home of his son, Jamie, after a long illness.

Born October 29, 1950 in Boothbay Harbor, he was the son of Edward T. and Christine (Feltis) Farrar.

Mr. Farrar graduated from Lincoln Academy in the Class of 1969. For many years he was self-employed as a Marine Specimen Preservationist, working until illness forced his retirement.

After the birth of his daughter, Heather, he began playing drums professionally, working with several bands in the area. He also had a lifelong love for hunting, fishing and, most especially, chocolate.

Survivors include his mother, Christine Thurber of Newcastle; one son, James E. of Bremen; one daughter, Heather Higgins of Jefferson; two sisters, Rosalie Campbell of Damariscotta and Carla Dubord of Jefferson; and his granddaughter, Megan Farrar.

Visiting hours were held Friday, October 6 at the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta. A graveside service followed at the New Harbor Cemetery, with Rick Newell officiating. He was laid to rest with his father.
