Mr. Douglas H. Mattor

WOOLWICH - Douglas H. Mattor, 57, died Thursday, May 24, 2007, after a year-long battle with cancer.
He was born in 1950, the first child of Larry and Laurene Mattor of Bath.
He graduated from Morse High School, class of 1968. At age 50 he returned to college and was a Dean's List student at the University of Maine, Augusta. He was preparing for a career in social work when he became ill.
Mr. Mattor is survived by three sisters, Doreen M. Boucher and her companion Steve Haining of Bowdoin, Dorcas M. Lizanecz and her husband Pete of Woolwich and Diane M. Martin and her husband Danny of Sinclair; his nephews, Darren W. Pye, Benjamin P. Lizanecz and Jacob S. Lizanecz; his nieces, Paige L. Pye and Rebecca G. Lizanecz; maternal grandmother, Edna B. Lord of Bolsters Mills; his aunts, Barbara Dalgaard and Diana Connell and numerous cousins.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 29, at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, Bath. Burial was private.

Mr. William Henry Tatro

SOUTH PARIS - William Henry Tatro, 80, of South Paris died Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.
He was born in White Plains, NY on May 13, 1927, the son of Theodore and Helen Akin Tatro. He graduated from high school in New York and attended Iona College and Columbia University. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy.
He married Eileen Haverinen in 1971. He had been employed as an accountant for a construction firm in New York. He was a lifetime member and chief of Hawthorne, NY Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norway and the V.F.W. Post #9787 in South Paris. He played clarinet with the band, "The Parisiens" and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Tatro is survived by a sister, Barbara Osgood of Turrytown, NY; a brother, Theodore Tatro of Wauchula, FL and a nephew, Bradley Grosse of Ballston Spa, NY. He was predeceased by his wife in January of 2006.
Graveside services were held on Monday, September 17 at King Hill Cemetery in South Paris. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris.

Mrs. Florence H. Graves

STOW - Florence H. Graves, 88, died Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Bridgton Hospital.
She was born in Albany, a daughter of Leslie and Maude (Emery) Kimball and attended local schools. She was a homemaker, housewife and mother. She also worked at the Fryeburg Corn Shop and the Bridgton Shoe Shop. She enjoyed knitting, reading and sewing.
Mrs. Graves is survived by two sons, Lloyd and his wife Debbie Graves of Naples and Aubrey Jr. and his wife Linda Graves of Stow; three sisters, Meryle Stone of South Paris, Helen Jewell of Norway and Eleanor Frechette of Oxford; three step-daughters, Pauline Benson of Bridgton, Audrey Andrews of Fryeburg and Florence Tripp of North Fryeburg; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband of Aubrey Graves Sr. in 1992.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, October 17, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Denmark with Rev. Janine Bean officiating. Arrangements are made with Wood Funeral Home, Fryeburg.

Mrs. Carroll P. (Jane) Lee

OTISFIELD - Carroll P. (Jane) Lee passed away on May 1, 2008.
She was born in Bar Harbor on November 4, 1927, the daughter of Albanus Moulton Pottle and Winifred Carroll Pottle. A 1947 graduate of Colby College, she was married to Martin Henry Lee on April 15, 1950.
Mrs. Lee is survived by her husband of 58 years, of Otisfield; her daughter, Katherine L. Pirtel and her husband Ronald Pirtel of South Windsor, CT; her son, Peter Moulton Lee and his wife Darcy A. Lee of Milford, CT; her son, John K. Lee and his wife Karolina Kawiaka of White River Junction, VT; her son, Martin H. Lee, Jr, of Seattle, WA; her brother, John S. Pottle of Otisfield and her granddaughters, Molly, Amy and Jane.
There will be no calling hours, and a ceremony of remembrance will be held later in the summer at a time and place to be determined. For those wishing to donate in her memory, the family requests contributions to Stephens Memorial Hospital, 181 Main St., Norway, ME 04268.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway.

Dr. Peter Parsons

SUNDERLAND, MA - Dr. Peter Parsons, 74, of Sunderland, MA, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA. Born in Lewiston on March 26, 1934, he was the son of the late Clarence and Edith Parsons of South Paris.
He graduated from Colby College, then pursued further advanced education after he served in the U.S. Army. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He married Joy Ann Harris of Washington, NC, on June 14, 1959. He served on the faculty of Holy Cross College, Worcester, MA, teaching pre-med students for 22 years. In addition, he served a time as chairman of the Biology department. In 2001, he retired from Holy Cross.
He loved his wife, daughter, son, son-in-law and two grandsons, but his devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ, His Savior, was foremost in his life.
Dr. Parsons is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Peter Brown and grandsons, Nathan Brown and Andrew Brown, of Tucson, AZ, and son, David, of Loveland, CO. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven Thomas Parsons, in 1970. He also leaves his sisters, Clarice Denney, Dorothy Martin and Jacqueline Edwards of South Paris; brother, Richard Parsons of Oxford and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his biological sisters, Ivalea Pulkkinen and Roberta Doughty of Norway.
Memorial donations may be made to Pine Brook Camp, Shutesbury, MA 01072, c/o Kevin Williams, or North Leverett Baptist Church, c/o Dr. Dan Clapp, 40 Blackberry Lane, Amherst, MA 01002.

Eleanor L. Flagg

OTISFIELD - Eleanor L. Flagg, 73, of Otisfield passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 in Harrison. She was born in Connecticut on May 22, 1937, the daughter of Irving and Marion Dunn Libby. She had been a homemaker all of her life. She married Lester Flagg on August 27, 1975. She loved to fish, hunt, camp, knit and sew. She enjoyed spending time on Moosehead Lake and living on Crooked River. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Flagg is survived by her children, Andy and his wife Anne of Steep Falls, Bobby and his wife Ester of Ossipee, NH, Donnie and his wife Cathy of Otisfield, Larry and his longtime companion Marie of South Waterford and Suzie and her husband Chris of Easley, SC; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and two brothers, George and his wife Darlene of Bowdoinham and Albert and his wife Gladys of Augusta. She was predeceased by her husband in 2003 and a son, Chris.
Graveside services were held on Monday, September 6 at Highland Cemetery in West Poland. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris.

Douglas Patrick Arthur

BUCKFIELD - Douglas Patrick Arthur, 67, of Buckfield, died of a sudden illness Monday evening, October 5, 2010 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in New Haven, CT on February 27, 1943, the son of Joseph and Della Butler Arthur. He attended schools in Branford, CT. He served in the Connecticut National Guard and had been employed at Pratt Whitney Company. He was the owner of a carpet installation business in Connecticut for many years. Upon moving to Maine he worked at Pioneer Plastics in Auburn. With his wife, they operated a foster home for over 25 years for physically challenged adults.
Twenty-six years ago he was a recipient of a kidney transplant. He enjoyed woodworking, especially furniture building and learning how to tinker on his computer with his grandson. He had been a member of the Elks Lodge in Connecticut. He was proud of his Irish heritage. He loved his grandchildren and his 57 Chevy. On August 28, 1965 he married Maryann Geyer.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years; a daughter, Elizabeth Hinkley and her husband Dennis of Buckfield; a son, Stephen of Greenwood; a son, Jeffrey of Oxford; a daughter, Heather Zizza and her husband David of Rowley, MA; a son, Pete Eichhorn; a daughter-in-law, Michele Bennett; grandchildren, Cameron and Kayla Hinkley and Joey Hooper, Shane Arthur, Beckham and Cruz Zizza, Carla and Cheryl Eichhorn; great-grandchildren, Camden Hinkley and D.J. Cote; his extended family, Marie and Milt Krom of Florida, Fred and Sonya Geyer of Connecticut, Paul and Dot Geyer of Maine, Jean and Gary Ulman of Vermont, Butch and Hilda Bailey of Connecticut, Billy and Cecee Geyer of Nevada and Skip and Peggy Murray of NY; many nieces and nephews; two foster residents, Denise Breton and Alan Huckabey; and his 57 Chevy and woodworking buddies, Skip Douglas, Don Cyr and Jeff Bureau. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Della Arthur and his best buddy, Dana Coburn. On-line condolences may be shared with his family at www.andrewsgreenleaf.com.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 9 at Buckfield Village Cemetery. Family and friends called at the Andrews Funeral Home, High Street, Buckfield on Friday evening, October 8. Donations in his memory can be made to Buckfield Rescue.

Mrs. Kristie Ann Stanewick

SOUTH PARIS - Kristie Ann Stanewick, 49, of South Paris died with her family by her side early Friday morning January 12, 2001 in her home. She found peace after a two-year battle with cancer.
She was born in Norway on August 29, 1951, the daughter of William and Ethel Allen Meserve.
She graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1969 and attended the University of Maine at Orono.
She married Mark Stanewick on January 30, 1971 and they have shared 30 years together. The Stanewick family has lived in South Paris for 24 years.
Kristie was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to all. She was a homemaker who also was a childcare provider for many years. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Norway.
Kristie enjoyed bird watching, leaf peeping, camping, cooking, and sewing. She will be remembered most for her strength, compassion for others, and her love for life.
Kristie is loved and remembered by her husband of 30 years, Mark Stanewick of South Paris; a daughter, Tina Stanewick of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Benjamin Stanewick and his wife, Elizabeth of Waterville; her father, William Meserve of Norway; a sister, Brenda Cronin of Mechanic Falls, extended family, and all who knew her.
Visiting hours were held Monday evening, January 15 at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.
Funeral Services were on Tuesday at the Second Congregational Church in Norway with Rev. Elaine Tobak officiating. Donations in Kristie's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society Box 456, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
Interment will be in the spring at the Streaked Mt. Cemetery in South Paris.

Mrs. Erma F. Wilson

PORTLAND - Erma F. Wilson, 73, of Route 5, Lovell, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
She was born in Sanford, the daughter of Raymand and Grace Libby Hale.
She grew up and was educated in Denmark.
Mrs. Wilson lived in Lovell for the past 53 years and was a beautician for 35 years. She was a member of the Lovell UCC, Delta Chapter OES, Ladies Circle and the Pine Tree Chapter of Camping.
For many years she and her husband camped in Buckfield. She also enjoyed crafts, dancing, playing cards and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband of 53 years, Enfield H. Wilson of Lovell; one son, Dale E. Wilson of Pittsfield; one daughter, Maxine F. Wilson of Chelsea; one brother, Irving Hale of Denmark and four grandchildren, Shelly, Shawn, Tanya and Brandon.
A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 10, at North Lovell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Fryeburg Rescue, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, ME 04037.
