Donna E. Farmer
2004-01-08

Donna E. (Pinkham) Farmer, 79, a resident of Pine View Ridge Road, died January 4, 2004 at her residence after a long illness.

Mrs. Farmer was born November 5, 1924 in Boothbay Harbor, the daughter of Angus and Mildred Pierce Andrews, and was a 1942 graduate of Boothbay Region High School.

She married Weston Pinkham, who died in 1974, and in 1982 married Captain Thurlow Farmer, who died in 1988. They did some traveling to Florida in the winter, and North Country during the summertime.

Mrs. Farmer had lived alone off Back Narrows Road for the past 14 years. She loved her birds and fought with the squirrels.

She was predeceased by her first and second husbands and a son, Weston "Skip" Pinkham Jr, who died June 3, 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Shelley Dodge of Boothbay Harbor; five grandchildren, Joseph Pinkham, Steven Kuykendall, Amy Dodge, Amanda Dodge, and Melissa Dodge; two sisters, Marlene Grant and Nancy Campbell; her son Skip's longtime companion Terry Schiff; and many nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A springtime graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service 18 Corey Lane, Boothbay, ME. 04537.

Arrangements are entrusted to Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay, ME.

A springtime memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 4 at the Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay.

Lorna Farquhar
2001-09-06

Lorna Farquhar, 77, of Wiscasset died Thursday, August 30, 2001 at Coves Edge in Damariscotta.

Born on July 5, 1922 in Sandwich, Kent, England, she was the daughter of Admiral Stuart and Marguerite (Riviere) Farquhar.

She attended schools in England and enrolled in the WRENS during World War II as an ambulance driver.

In 1952 she immigrated to the United States where she lived in New York and was employed as the executive secretary to the President of Chiquita Banana Company. After retiring she moved to Wiscasset where she was a resident for the last 13 years.

Ms. Farquhar was a member of the St. Philip's Church Women of St. Philip's and Secretary of the Wiscasset Garden Club from 1988 to 1991.

She is survived by one cousin, Ann Riviere of England.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 11 at St. Philip's Church, Hodge Street in Wiscasset.

Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street in Wiscasset.

Alva E. Farrin
2002-05-30

Alva E. Farrin, 81, of South Bristol, died late on the evening of May 17, at the Maine Veterans Home, Augusta. born here Sept. 22, 1920, he was a son of Afton and Annie May (Gamage) Farrin, Sr.

Graduating from So. Bristol High School, he then attended the University of Maine. He entered the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater during WWII. Alva began his career working in marine biology for the National Fish & Wildlife Dept. He later became one of the founders of the New England Aquarium, Boston, where remained for several years. After returning to Maine, he worked as a fisherman, with his brother Afton, Jr. out of So. Bristol, until retiring. He had a lifelong love for gardening and wild birds.

He leaves six children, Bruce of Walpole, Jerry of New Harbor, Patrick, Rebecca and Ruth, all of Boothbay, and Kevin of So. Bristol. He leaves three brothers, Afton, Jr. of Walpole, Ramon of Ocala, Fla., Paul of Bristol; three sisters, Margaret House of So. Bristol, Annie Gilbert of New Harbor, Ruth Bullock of Pemaquid; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

His service was held at Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta on Thursday, May 23. He was laid to rest at the West Bristol Cemetery, Walpole.

Alonzo B. Fellows
2002-06-06

Alonzo Brown Fellows, 77, of Columbus, Ohio and Southport died Saturday, May 25 after a brief illness.

Born January 28, 1925 in New York City, he was the son of Reginald and Margaret Moses Fellows and grandson of Alfred J. Moses. He graduated from South Kent School and Harvard College and attended graduate school at the Sorbonne and Louisiana State University. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy.

During his career he worked as a Group Insurance Manager for Mutual of New York and Pilot Life Insurance Company.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Goodwin Fellows, his daughter, Deborah (Phillip) Gregory of Naperville, Illinois; one son, Roland (Joyce) Fellows of Ithaca, New York; and three grandchildren, Alexandra and Jonathan Humphreys and Nathan Fellows.

A memorial service will be held in August at the Church of All Saints by-the-Sea on Southport.

Roger P. Fernald
2003-08-15

WINDHAM - Roger P. Fernald, 55, of Smith Road, died at Maine Medical Center on August 3, 2003, following a brief illness. He was born in Westbrook, a son of Charles W., Jr. and Geneva S. (Proulx) Fernald. He attended Windham schools, and was a graduate of Windham High School.

He worked for several years for Arkie Rogers of Windham, then worked 20 years for his father's business, C.W. Fernald, Inc. Building Contractor, also of Windham. He then started his own business, Roger Fernald Construction, and was also a subcontractor for Home Town Home Improvements of Saco.

He enjoyed his Harley-Davidson and was a member of the United Bikers of Maine. He enjoyed his work and his perennial gardens. He also raised Springer Spaniels and showed them. He is survived by his wife, Alice Powell Fernald of Windham; his father, Charles Fernald, Jr., of Naples; sons, Daryl S. Fernald of Bridgton, Kevin L. Fernald of Standish; stepsons, Michael S. Connor and Christopher J. Connor both of Windham; a special niece, Lydia Powell of Portland; a brother, Richard L. Fernald of Casco; sisters, Pauline M. Leland of Windham, Donna L. Martin of Windham, Shirley M. Smith of Casco, Susan A. Shaw of Raymond; and six grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours, A memorial service was held at Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham.

Ryan James Field
2004-05-27

Ryan James Field, 11 months, the infant son of Christopher Field and Lucinda Powers, died May 20 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland from injuries received in an auto accident.

Ryan was born May 21, 2003 in Damariscotta, a son of Lucinda Powers and Christopher Field of Boothbay.

Survivors include his parents of Boothbay Harbor; maternal grandparents, Michael and Delicia Powers of Boothbay; paternal grandmother, Ruth Field of Portland; maternal great-grandparents, Edward and Virginia Swett of Boothbay; one sister, Danielle Bennett of Lisbon; uncles, Paul Nevers, Hatboro, Penn., James Nevers, Watertown, N.Y., Eric Nevers, Gorham, and Raymond Powers, Boothbay; aunt, Joanna Powers of Portland; great-aunt and great-uncle, Dorinda and Phil Webster of Boothbay; and several cousins

A funeral service was held Wednesday, May 26 at the Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay.

Donations may be made to the Pediatrics Ward SCU, Maine Medical Center, 22 Bramhall St. Portland, Maine 04102 in memory of Ryan Field.

Edward L. Field Jr.
2003-12-18

Edward L. Field Jr., 86, a retired Vice President of Federated Department Stores, died December 8 in Sarasota, Florida.

Mr. Field was a native of Richmond, Va. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Richmond, and his master's degree from Cornell University with a double major in collective bargaining and industrial relations.

During World War II, he served as a Naval officer. In his last year of service, he was attached to the Department of the Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Navy in the investigation and prosecution of Japanese war criminals.

His business career, spanning nearly 40 years, was divided between the corporate staffs of two major department store organizations, namely, Allied Stores, headquartered in New York City, and Federated Department Stores, headquartered in Cincinnati.

Mr. Field served as chairman of the employee relations committees of both the National Retail Merchants Association and the American Retail Federation. He was a former member of the labor relations committee of the United States Chamber of Commerce and a board member of Ohio Medical Indemnity Mutual, the parent company of Blue Shield of Ohio.

Active in an array of civic and community affairs, he served on the board of the Children's Protective Service in Cincinnati for several years, headed the hospital division of Cincinnati's Annual United Appeal, and was an active Rotarian, serving as the chairman of the Cincinnati Club's Program Committee and World Affairs Institute.

Mr. Field also served as a member and chairman of the civil service committee of the Village of Wyoming, Ohio, and was an active communicant of the Episcopal Church, serving in various capacities as a vestryman.

Following his retirement, he summered in Southport and wintered in Sarasota, Florida. He served as a member and the president of the Southport Island Association. He was a member of the Boothbay Harbor and Sarasota Yacht Clubs, and was a former member of the Cincinnati Club.

Survivors include his widow, nee Claire Noyes; daughter Donna Field Bagley and son-in-law Charles Bagley; and three grandchildren, all of Gibson Island, Maryland; a brother Jewett, and a sister Ann, both of Richmond, Virginia.

Funeral arrangements will be private.

Gladys W. Fielding
2003-05-08

Gladys W. Fielding, 92, of Bath, died Monday, April 28 at a Brunswick hospital.

Born in Boothbay November 2, 1910, she was a daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Andrews Welch. She attended schools in Dorchester, Mass, and graduated from high school there.

On August 25, 1940, she married Harold "Hink" Fielding, and they made their home in Bath.

Mrs. Fielding enjoyed "Hink's" involvement with the Bath and Maine Elks Association.

She worked as a hostess at the Sedgewick Hotel and was a police matron for the Bath Police Department.

She was a member of the Corliss Street Baptist Church.

Mrs. Fielding was predeceased by her husband, who died April 20, 1982; and a companion, Cedric P. French, who died March 8, 2000.

Survivors include one son, Bruce H. and his wife, Bettilou Fielding of Augusta; two grandchildren, Brenda Fielding of Orono, and Brian and his wife, Jennifer Fielding of Augusta; a great-granddaughter, Abbie Fielding of Augusta; and a dedicated, devoted friend, Laura Lee Chadwick of Bath.

A funeral service was held Saturday, May 3 at David E. Desmond Funeral Home in Bath. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Francis Finnegan Jr.
2004-10-07

Francis T. Finnegan, Jr. 58, of Readfield and Old Orchard Beach, the beloved husband of Mary Flynn Finnegan, died after a brief illness Tuesday, September 28, at The Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass.

He was the son of the late Francis T. Finnegan, Sr. of Augusta and Catherine Brady Finnegan of Damriscotta.

Mr. Finnegan was born in Buffalo, New York and attended local schools there. In 1963, he graduated from Cony High School. He attended Harvard College and received his Master's degree in Public Heath Administration from the Kennedy School at Harvard in 1987.

He was a commissioned officer in the Army Corp of Engineers and served with Special Forces in the Republic of Vietnam from 1966 through 1968.

Most recently, he was the Vice President for Product Development of HWT, Inc. in Portland. Previously, he oversaw Maine's Medicaid Program as the Director of the Bureau of Medical Services of the Maine Department of Human Services.

Mr. Finnegan also a member of the National Medicaid Directors Association and served on the Executive Committee. He was a nationally recognized authority on public health care financing and was a sought after lecturer in his field.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Mary and stepson Christopher Dufort; six siblings: Andrew and his wife Susan of Freeport, Kate and her husband Will Beck of Brookline, N. H., Michael and his wife June of Edgecomb, John and his wife Nancy of Augusta, Mary Ann Finnegan of Wakefield, R. I., and Margaret and her husband Mario Briccetti of Grover, Mo.; and 12 nieces and nephews.

A service in celebration of Mr. Finnegan's life was held at St. Mary's Church in Augusta Saturday, October 2.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Francis T. and Catherine B. Finnegan Scholarship Fund at the University of Maine.
