Norma C. Fogg
2002-08-23

Norma C. Fogg of Gray, died of cancer at her home on August 13, 2002. She was born in Mechanic Falls, Maine, on July 26, 1927, a daughter of Philip and Marion Wescott Barker.

Norma is survived by four daughters: Marilyn Brown, Doris Whitney and Jennifer MacEachern all of Gray and Susan Wilbur of Cherryfield and three sons: Johnny Holmes of Windham, Mark Fogg of Gray and David Fogg of Oxford. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and by her siblings; Methyl Wiggin, Barbara Fogg, Marion Barker and Martin Barker.

She was predeceased by two grandsons; Steven M. Audet and Dustin Brown; a brother, Maynard Barker and her husband of 49 years, John F. Fogg.

Norma dedicated her life to her family and many friends.

A memorial service was held at the Bible Believing Baptist Church with Pastor Darwin Vail officiating. Arrangements were by Wilson Funeral Home.

William M. Forbes Jr.
2003-07-17

William Maxfield Forbes, Jr., 87, died Tuesday, July 8 at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland where he resided for the past year.

Born in Boothbay Harbor on August 31, 1915, he was the son of William Maxfield and Lydia A. Davis Forbes. He was a 1932 graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School and on June 27, 1959, graduated from Williams College School of Banking in Williamsburg, Massachusetts.

On October 9, 1937, he married Elinor L. Spurr in Boothbay Harbor. A World War II, U.S. Army veteran, he served in Italy as a Gun Crewman with the Antitank Company 349th Infantry Regiment 88th Division. At the time of his discharge from active duty on April 10, 1946, he had earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.

His banking career began in 1932, as a summer job with Augusta Trust Company. After President Roosevelt declared a "Bank Holiday" closing all banks, as banks began to reopen, Mr. Forbes was employed with the newly formed institution, Depositors Trust Company of Augusta. In 1951 he was transferred to Waldoboro as manager and in 1960 returned to Depositors' Augusta headquarters to establish a Credit Department. In 1967, he transferred to Rockland as District Manager of Depositors' eleven coastal branches. He retired September 1, 1977.

During his working years, Mr. Forbes taught The American Institute of Banking course in Principles of Banking Operations at Rockland, Augusta and Waterville.

Throughout his career, he was active in many community organizations including service as President of Penobscot Bay Medical Center's Board of Directors and as a member of that boards' Building Committee, the Waldoboro Lions Club and as a board member of Knox Home for the Aged now known as The Talbot Home. He was a past chairman of Depositors Trust Advisory Board, Rockland Congregational Church Board of Trustees and served several years on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army Corps of Rockland.

He was as 20-year member of Rockland Rotary Club and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the club. In 1999, he was named as an honorary member of the Rotary Club.

He was a life member of the Seaside Lodge of Masons, Chapter #144 AF & AM, Boothbay Harbor.

While living in Waldoboro, he was one of the organizers of the Little League baseball, and served as manager of the Wildcats team.

Besides his wife of 65 years, Mr. Forbes is survived by one daughter, Claire Belyea and her husband Barry of Waldoboro; one son, William and his wife Linda of Augusta; one sister, Elizabeth Tilton of Boothbay Harbor; his grandchildren, Robin Forbes, William and Barbara Forbes, Andrew and Elizabeth Forbes, Rebecca and James T. Foster, Melinda and Philip Genthner, Leslie Parent, Gary and Erica Crosby, Jessica Belyea, Lynsey Belyea; his great-grandchildren, Kayla Parent, Philip Genthner, Steven Genthner, Meghan Forbes, Noah Crosby, Lauren Forbes, Max Forbes V, Thomas Foster, Katherine Foster as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held Friday, July 11 at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, Rockland. A celebration of Mr. Forbes' life was held Saturday, July 12 at Rockland Congregational Church, Rockland. The Reverend Irven Gammon officiated. Interment will be at a later date in Ocean View Cemetery, Boothbay.

Floretta "Toat" Fossett
2002-06-13

Floretta C. "Toat" Fossett, 92, died June 3, 2002 at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

Born in Boothbay, she was the daughter of Chester E. Emerson and Christine Brewer Emerson. In 1928 she graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School and attended reunions faithfully. In 1998 she attended her 70th reunion with eight of her classmates.

During her long life, she was employed by several hotels. The last and longest was at Rocktide Inn and Restaurant, where she would arrive early in the morning to make the oatmeal. It was soon known as "Toatmeal." She worked there for over 30 years and was reluctantly retired at 90.

Mrs. Fossett was a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Boothbay Harbor and its United Methodist Women and the Susanna Circle. She particularly liked working at the Food Pantry. She was a member and past officer of the American Legion Auxiliary and a 50-year-plus member and past officer of the Order of the Easter Star.

Her greatest treat was traveling to visit grandchildren and taking part in all of the family's special occasions.

One of her favorite hobbies was making May baskets. She helped to keep this old-fashioned custom alive by making hundreds of May baskets every year. They were given to shut-ins, friends, grandchildren and their school friends all over the U.S. and even New Zealand. She also liked to make and share with her friends her heavenly peanut butter fudge.

Mrs. Fossett is predeceased by her husband, Frederick Fossett in 1988; her daughter, Sallyann Schopper in 1974; and her grandson, Frederick Schopper in 1998.

Survivors include one son, Chester Fossett, his wife, Alice and five grandchildren, Elaine Rittershaus, her husband Charles and four children of Malden, Mass.; Brian Fossett, his wife Lisa, and two children of Nelson, New Zealand; John Fossett, his wife Berit and two children of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; James Fossett, his wife Suzanne and two children of Bloomington, N.Y.; Kenneth Schopper, his wife Linda, three step-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grand-child-ren.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the United Methodist Church in Boothbay Harbor at 2 p.m. on July 20, 2002, Rev. Allan Wells-Goodwin officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the memorial endowment fund of the United Methodist Church, Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Walter Lewis Foster
2003-10-10

Walter Lewis Foster, 80, passed away October 4, 2003, at his home in Gray.

He was born in Concord, Mass., November 1, 1922.

Survived by wife, Shirley Bartlett-Foster, two daughters, Sheryl Griffin and husband Ken of New Gloucester and Debra Chase and husband, Richard of Gray; one son, Alan Foster of Florida; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one son, Dwight Madden.

Arrangements were under the care of Wilson Funeral Home, Gray.

Mildred Mabel Morrell Foster
2003-08-01

Mildred Mabel Morrell Foster, 88, died Thursday, July 24, 2003.

She was born October 3, 1914, a daughter of Jacob P. and Alma S. Martin Morrell and attended Windham schools.

She married Merle Foster on December 24, 1932.

Mrs. Foster worked at Hansen's Farms for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Merle, and her children, Joanne Somers and David Foster.

Survived by her children, Janet Earnshaw, Springfield, VA; Jean McDonald, Grandville, Mass.; Stephen Foster, Gray; Nancy Provencal, Winthrop; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

Services were under the care of Wilson Funeral Home, Gray.

Marion Fournier
2002-02-28

Marion (Boyce) Fournier, 92, of Woonsocket, R.I., died Wednesday, February 20 at Oakland Grove Health Care Center in Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Gabriel F. Fournier.

Born in North Uxbridge, Mass., October 1, 1909, a daughter of the late Robert S. and Ada I. (Moore) Boyce, she had lived in Cumberland, R.I. for 39 years before moving to Danielson, Conn. for 29 years. She then lived in West Boothbay Harbor for 20 years before moving to Woonsocket four years ago.

Mrs. Fournier was a bank clerk at the former Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank and, later, worked in the same capacity for Brooklyn Savings Bank in Danielson, Conn., retiring in 1972.

She was a former member and sang in the choir at the First Baptist Church of Lonsdale, Lincoln, R.I., and a member of the former Electa Chapter #22, Order of the Eastern Star, Cumberland, R.I.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including John P. Boyce of Rumford, R.I., George Boyce of Lincoln, R.I., Robert Boyce of Anaheim, Calif., Shirley Lizotte of Woonsocket, R.I., and Donna Lizotte of Warwick, R.I.; several grand-nieces and grandnephews; and several great-grandnieces and great-grand-nephews. She was the aunt of the late Barbara Tedeschi.

The funeral and burial will be private. Arrangements are by D.W. Bellows & Son, of Pawtucket, R.I.

Michael Fowler, 44

Michael H. Fowler, 44, formerly of Gray, died July 14 in Clearwater, Florida, after a brief illness.

He was born in Portland, a son of Andrus H. and Joyce Boucher Fowler. He was a sheet metal contractor.

He is survived by his mother, Joyce Boucher Fowler Ronco, and grandmother, Martha E. Boucher, both of Gray; his wife, Sharon Fowler, of Houston, Texas; three sons, Michael Jr., of South Paris, Mathew, of Oxford, and Willard, of Houston; his father, of Naples; and a brother, Jeffrey A., of Bridgton.

A memorial Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Gray, with the Monsignor Robert Lavoie officiating. Burial is in Gray Village Cemetery. Arrangements were by Dolby Funeral Home.

Clara E. Fowles
2003-04-03

Clara Etta Fowles, 89, of West Bath died Tues., March 25 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

Born June 4, 1913 in Bath, she was the daughter of Lester G. and Etta M. (Rines) Munsey.

She attended Bath schools and married G. Hudson Fowles Jr. in 1932. Mrs. Fowles owned and operated a dog boarding business out of her home. She was an instructor at a summer camp in Naples for many years.

Mrs. Fowles was a member of the American Kennel Association.

She was a Mom to everybody and enjoyed taking care of people.

She was predeceased by her husband, G. Hudson Fowles Jr., on February 19, 1988.

Survivors include three brothers, Ellery "Bud" Munsey and his wife, Audrey, of Brunswick, Lester Munsey and his wife, Alice, of Phippsburg, Russell Munsey and his wife, Leola, of Sebasco; one sister, Amanda King and her husband, Robert, of Bath; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset. Memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Humane Society, 30 Range Road, Brunswick, ME 04011. Arrangements are by Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath.

Davod J. Fox
2004-02-26

David James Fox, 90, died Thursday, February 19 at St. Andrews Hospital.

The eldest of three sons, he was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on May 12, 1913 to Russell and Minnie Belle (Callahan) Fox. In 1934 he graduated from Lowell Technological Institute, now the University of Massachusetts Lowell, as a textile engineer.

In 1936 Mr. Fox married Pauline Bonneville, his high school sweetheart.

After living in Michigan, Maryland and Rhode Island as a young couple, the Foxes settled in Andover, Mass. where they remained for 25 years and where Mr. Fox was an active member of the South Congregational Church. For 30 years, he was employed by J.P. Stevens and Co., Inc. of North Andover, Mass., Boston, and New York City in a variety of textile manufacturing and sales management positions.

Inspired by their 1936 honeymoon in Bar Harbor, the Foxes began a lifelong attachment to the coast of Maine. After becoming a summer resident of Capitol Island in the 1950s, Mr. Fox particularly enjoyed the island lifestyle, his sailboat and the Picnic, his Hodgdon-built wooden boat. For several years he volunteered as an overseer of the Capitol Island Association and village Corporation, serving for 10 years.

In 1974 the Foxes moved permanently to their present home on Southport. After his retirement, Mr. Fox worked for 20 years as postmaster during the summer months at the U.S. Rural Contract Station on Capitol Island. From 1981 to 1987, Mr. Fox was an active member of the Board of Directors of St. Andrews Hospital.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Pauline of Southport; one daughter, Susan Reepmeyer and husband William of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; four grandsons, William Reepmeyer and wife Carrie of Boston, Mass, Douglas Reepmeyer and Bradford Reepmeyer, both of Brookline, Mass., and Jonathan Reepmeyer of Chicago, Ill.; and one brother, Theodore of Venice, Fla.

A memorial service to honor Mr. Fox is planned for Saturday morning, July 3, 2004 at the Capitol Island Casino. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to contribute to the St. Andrews Hospital capital campaign in Mr. Fox's memory.
