Stallfort, Ruth
Nov. 9, 1921 - Aug. 25, 2005

Ruth Oliver Stallfort, 83, of Round Pond, a professor, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died on Aug. 25 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Boston, Mass., on Nov. 9, 1921, she was the daughter of Albert and Cathering (Igoe) Oliver.
After graduating from Girls Latin School, Mrs. Stallfort attended Simmons College, where she earned a B.S. in Biology and a M.S.S. from the School of Social Work. She subsequently pursued advanced study at Columbia University School of Social Work, where she earned a U.S.P.H. Fellowship, and the Medical College of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Stallfort began her professional career as a Psychiatric Social Worker at Judge Baker Guidance Center in Boston, where she worked from 1946-1948.
She subsequently moved to the Philadelphia area, where she joined the staff at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1954, Mrs. Stallfort joined the faculty of Bryn Mawr College’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research as a lecturer in Psychiatric Social Work. She remained at Bryn Mawr for 30 years, retiring in September of 1984 as Associate Professor Emeritus.
In Philadelphia, Mrs. Stallfort met and married her husband, G. Robert Stallfort (Bob). As newlyweds, the couple lived in Bryn Mawr, but later moved to Nantmeal and finally, Elverson, Penn., where they lived for over 30 years. In 1993, the couple moved to Round Pond, retiring to an area that they had loved for many years.
Mrs. Stallfort was an avid reader and also enjoyed travel, embarking on trips to France, Greece, Germany, and Thailand in the past 10 years. In addition, she was an active volunteer. She worked at the Skidompha Used Book Store in Damariscotta, and was a driver for the elderly and infirm. A lifelong
Democrat, she also actively helped local candidates in their campaign efforts.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, a brother Karl Oliver, and sisters Helen Richardson and Marie Colella.
Mrs. Stallfort is survived by her daughter Katherine E. Stallfort and husband Frazier Caner; grandchildren Oliver and Hannah Caner, all of Wilton,
Conn.; and many nieces and nephews in the Boston area.
Memorial services were private. Memorial donations may be made to Nursing and Home Care, 180 School Rd., Wilton, CT 06897.

Tan, Marion
Sept. 14, 1935 - Oct. 18, 2005

Marion Elizabeth Tan, 70, passed away Oct. 18 at her home in Waldoboro.
Marion was born Sept. 14, 1935 in Belfast, Ireland, a daughter of Joseph and Mae Short Mallon. She met Anthony Tan when they were both 19, while he was stationed in England, and they were married in 1956; he said, “it was love at first sight”.
Together they traveled all over the world while he was in the Air Force and they retired to Pennsylvania for 13 years before taking a camping trip to Acadia National Park and deciding to retire to Waldoboro in 1986.
She was a certified belly dancer, enjoyed all crafting and found great pleasure in her nine rock gardens around her home.
Marion volunteered at Goodwill in Rockland. She loved her black lab, Shadow, and her cats, Mitzy and Daisy.
Marion enjoyed spending time with her family and her daughter said, “She was the best wife and mother, ever”. Each year she and her entire family would travel to Sea Isle, N.J., for a family reunion, which she enjoyed immensely.
She is predeceased by her sister, Rona Kissner.
Marion is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Anthony Tan of Waldoboro; daughters Michelle Tan of Waldoboro, Heather Tan-Naghshineh and husband Billy of Virginia; son Anthony Brian Tan and his wife Michele of Philadelphia; sister Brenda Mallon of England; and brothers Fred and Brian Mallon of Manchester, England.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Waldoboro.

Hanna, James
Nov. 4, 1913 - Oct. 20, 2005

James “Stan” Hanna, 91, of Waldoboro, passed away Oct. 20 at his home.
James was born Nov. 4, 1913 in Waldoboro, the son of James M. and Ethel Sherman Hanna.
He grew up in Waldoboro graduating from Waldoboro High School and continuing his education at the Wentworth Institute of Boston.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific during WWII. He played baseball after WWII for numerous local town teams. He worked locally as a machinist for Sylvania Electric, Bath Iron Works and Master’s Machine Shop.
He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a member of the Lincoln Rifle Association and the National Rifle Association.
He was predeceased by sisters, Priscilla Straughn and Carolyn Brightman; first wife Nancy Hanna; second wife, Gwendolyn Hanna; and step-sons, Stephen and Franklin Prior
Survivors include his daughter, Lorraine Hussey and husband Roy of South Portland; nephews, Brian Brightman of Dighton, Mass., and Geoffrey Straughn of Roanoke, Va.; step-daughters, Tracy Crowell and husband Gilbert of Jefferson, and Diane Drinkwater and husband Alan of Owls Head; and step-son, Craig Prior and wife Cindy of Bremen.
Visiting hours 1-3 p.m., Tues., Oct. 25 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
In Stan’s memory, memorial donations may be made to the Waldoboro Public Library, 25 Friendship Rd., Waldoboro, ME 04572.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Waldoboro.

Bartolotta, Terry
Dec. 26, 1948 - Oct. 19, 2005

Terry L. Bartolotta, 56, Bremen, passed away peacefully in her home with her husband and son by her side, on the afternoon of Oct. 19 after a long courageous battle with ovarian cancer. born Dec. 26, 1948, in Bay Shore, Long Island, N.Y., she was the daughter of Tracey Ketcham and (the late) Alice Southland Ketcham.
Raised on Long Island, Terry graduated from West Babylon High in 1967. She married Salvatore C. Bartolotta, Sr., Dec. 1, 1968 and was blessed with her son Salvatore in May of 1970. She and her family relocated to Maine in the summer of 1988 and settled in Bremen where she began working for the Bremen Town Office for the next ten years. Shortly after, she accepted a position in the Damariscotta Town Office where she worked for five years until forced to retire as a result of her illness. In her spare time Terry enjoyed creating special craft items for her family & friends, collecting Boyd's Bears and spoiling her two beautiful granddaughters.
Her sister Brenda Michelback predeceased her.
Terry leaves her father, Tracey of Oakdale, N.Y.; her husband, of Bremen; her son Salvatore C. Bartolotta, Jr. and wife Rebecca, of Bremen; her sister, Patricia Bennett of Oakdale; two granddaughters, Taylor and Shayna Bartolotta; and three nephews, Brian and Kevin Bennett and Richard Michelback.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, where the family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m., Tues., Oct. 25. Service to honor Terry will be at the Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m., Wed., Oct. 26, with Rev. Susan Winter officiating.

Reed, Josephine
June 14, 1934 - Oct. 20, 2005

Josephine P. Reed, 71, of Wiscasset, died Oct. 20 at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro.
She was born on June 14, 1934, the daughter of David and Myrtle (Bean) Reed. She attended Wiscasset schools.
Josephine loved spending time with her family, enjoyed talking on the phone, being with people, yard sales, animals, country and western music, and collecting watches and radios.
She was predeceased by her father David Reed, mother Myrtle Brewer in 1999, stepfather Ronald Brewer in 1993, and brother David A. Reed.
She is survived by brothers Arthur Reed and wife Phyllis of Wiscasset, and Donald I. Brewer of Wiscasset; sister Hortense Blanchard of Rumford; especially close aunt and uncle, John and Mildred Grover of Medfield, Mass; especially close niece and nephew, Debra Ethier of Wiscasset and Richard Brewer of Edgecomb; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside service 2 p.m., Sat., Oct. 29 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset.
Arrangements are by Mayo and Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal St., Wiscasset.

Flanders, Daniel
Oct. 9, 1932 - Oct. 21, 2005

Daniel E. Flanders, 73, died Oct. 21 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, following a long illness. He was born in Liberty on Oct. 9, 1932, a son of the late Jessie and Catherine (Cronon) Flanders.
Mr. Flanders was a graduate of Walker High School in Liberty and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He had been employed by Howard Street cemetery in Northborough, Mass., and the Northborough Water Dept. for a total of 25 years.
Mr. Flanders was a member of the Kennebec Assembly of God.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Harold Flanders; and sister Rita Hanson.
Mr. Flanders is survived by his wife, Marian Alice (Noyes) Flanders of Windsor; son Dale E. Flanders of Gardiner; daughter Cynthia Flanders of Worcester, Mass.; stepsons, David Brann and wife Sandra, and Terry Brann and wife Sue Ann, all of Windsor; stepdaughter Jeanne Tisdale of Chelsea; brother Roland Flanders of Washington; grandson Adam Thomas of Worcester; and several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 9:30-11:30 a.m., Wed., Oct. 26 at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Committal service 12 p.m., at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
Condolences to the family may be expressed via the funeral home.

Johnson, Geraldine
March 22, 2005 - Oct. 19, 2005

Geraldine Brown Johnson, 74, of Waldoboro, died the evening of Oct. 19 at St. Andrew’s Hospital and Healthcare in Boothbay Harbor.
She was born March 22, 1931 in Randolph, a daughter of the late George and Hazel Brown.
On March 18, 1950 she married Russell Francis Johnson whom she met at grammar school in 1940.
Geraldine spent her life as a homemaker enjoying her birds, cats, flowers, and her garden. She crocheted afghans, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing, camping with her family, and spending time near Moxie Lake.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of more than forty-five years.
Geraldine is survived by three sons, Thomas Ralph Johnson and wife Meredith of New Harbor, Craig Douglas Johnson and wife Donna of Augusta, and Mark Russell Johnson of Illinois; daughter Wendy Lee Ross of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Amy Lee Bramhall and husband Scott, Christopher Michael and Corey Eva Johnson, Lyn Renee Hall and husband Micah, Neal Anthony Ross, Jr., Montell Cortle Ross III, Jennifer Michaud, and Thomas Ware; and several great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a time of celebration to remember Geraldine’s life, 5-7 p.m., Tues., Oct. 25 at her home, 19 Depatsy’s Trailer Park, Friendship Rd., Waldoboro.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service, Waldoboro.

Orne, Raymond
Feb. 11, 1933 - Oct. 23, 2005

Raymond Orne, 72, of West Boothbay Harbor, died Oct. 23 at St. Andrews Hospital.
He was born in Roslindale, Mass., on Feb. 11, 1933, the son of Kenneth and Dorothy Orne. Raymond graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1957, after which he joined the U.S. Air Force for four years.
He was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston, Mass., for 38 years.
Raymond retired in 1992 and came back to his beloved home in West Boothbay Harbor with his cat, Boots.
Ray was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Patriots.
He is survived by his brother Robert and wife Joan of Groton, Conn.; aunt Margaret Orne Kelly and her husband Verner of Savannah, Ga.; aunt Joan Orne of West Boothbay Harbor; and many cousins.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no service.
Arrangements are entrusted to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 375 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay.
Donations may be made in his memory to Miles Home Health & Hospice, 40 Belvedere Rd., Damariscotta, ME 04543.
