William 'Bill' Hackett
1999-02-18

MECHANIC FALLS - William "Bill" Hackett, 74, of Mechanic Falls died Thursday, February 11, 1999, at his residence in Mechanic Falls.

He was born in Minot on January 21, 1925, the son of Emery and Nettie Pollard Hackett. He was educated in Minot and Mechanic Falls schools.

He had worked for many years at Marcal Paper and from 1983 to 1998 he operated a school bus for Mechanic Falls school department. He was a member of the Mechanic Falls fire department serving as a captain.

He married the former Geneva M. Fifield on June 24, 1944.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years of Mechanic Falls; a son, Paul E., of Mechanic Falls; a daughter, Wilma Buteau, of Mechanic Falls; one brother, John H. ,of Mechanic Falls; a sister Harriett Walsh of Grand Marcus, MN; a granddaughter, Denise; four stepgrandchildren and four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and he was predeceased by three brothers, Ralph, Robert, and Parker.

Committal services will be held in the spring at the Maple Grove cemetery in Mechanic Falls at a time and date announced later.

A visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls.

Donations in Mr. Hacketts memory may be sent to the Mechanic Falls Firemen's Association or to the Mechanic Falls Rescue, P.O. Box 130 Mechanic Falls, Maine 04256.

Elmore D. Hall
1999-09-02

Elmore D. Hall, 74, formerly of Whitefield, died Wed. Aug. 26 at Winship Green Nursing Home, Bath.

He was born in Bristol, a son of David B. and Nettie Creamer Hall, and attended Bristol schools.

He lived in Whitefield for most of his life and had worked for the Lincoln County Courthouse before his retirement. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are a son, Leslie D. Hall of Pemaquid; a daughter, Mrs. James (Marie) Morris of Minn.; three sisters, Evelyn Gifford of Round Pond, Mrs. Claude (Lillian) Seiders of South Bristol and Elsie Graffman of Bath; two grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

There will be no services. Arrangements were by David E. Desmond Funeral Home, Bath.

Wallace E. Ham
1999-04-01

LEWISTON - Wallace E. Ham Sr., age 79, of Moosewa Trail, Otisfield, died on arrival at Central Maine Medical Center, Saturday evening, March 27.

He was born in Haverhill, MA, May 3, 1919, the son of Leslie and Bess (Ray) Ham.

Educated in MA schools, Mr. Ham was a 1937 graduate of Haverhill High School. He attended Ewings Pattern Shop School.

He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Massachusetts during W.W.II.

He was employed as a Shoe Counter Pattern Maker at Lombard-Watson and later at Gould & Scammon.

Mr. Ham served as institutional representative for Troop #111 Boy Scouts of America. He volunteered at Camp Wayaka Girl Scout Camp for 15 years. He was a member of Tranquil Lodge #29 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Auburn.

He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed playing golf.

He married the former Doris Simard on December 5, 1942.

Mr. Ham is survived by his wife Doris S. Ham of Otisfield; one daughter and husband, Judith and Steve Stewart of Wasilla, AK; three sons, Wallace E. Ham Jr and his wife, Jane, of Ellsworth, Jeffrey and his wife, Denise, Ham of Auburn and Michael M. Ham of Boothbay; three grandchildren, Briana Ham, Jenna Stewart, and Steven Stewart; four step-grandchildren, John and Beth O'Brien and Laura and Lindsey Leclerc; one great-grandchild, Isaac Poliquin; one step-great-grandchild, Devin Leclerc Richard; and one brother, Delbert Ham, of Topsham. He was predeceased by a grandson, Justin Ham, in 1987.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday at The Fortin Group/Plummer & Merrill Funeral Home in Auburn.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Ham's memory to the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice Services, P.O. Box 819, Lewiston, ME 04243.

Margaret Hamilton
1999-08-26

Margaret "Peggy" Doran Hamilton, 64, of Billerica, Mass. and a long-time summer resident of Biscay Pond in Bremen died on Aug. 16 after a short illness at St. Memorial Hospital in Lowell, Mass.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 45 years, James F. Hamilton; three daughters, Debra A. Hamilton of Chelmsford, Mass, Maureen S. Smith of Wiscasset and Karen L. Hamilton of Damariscotta; a brother, Conrad of Billerica; a granddaughter, Kirsten Smith of Wiscasset, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were Aug. 18 at Sweeney's Funeral Home in Billerica; funeral service was at St. Irene's in Carlisle, Mass. on Aug. 19. Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.

Eugene Hamilton
1999-02-04

NORWAY - Eugene Hamilton, 60, of Oxford died Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Portland on Feb. 25, 1938, the son of Phyllis Smith. He attended Naples schools.

Mr. Hamilton was a self employed auto mechanic and life long resident of Oxford

He married Sandra Cobb on March 19, 1963. He enjoyed hunting, gambling and boating. He was known to many CBers as Crackerjack.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years of Oxford; a daughter, Martha Kimball of Norway; a son, Gene of West Paris; his mother of Naples; three sisters, Flora Smith of Lewiston, Sandra Smith of Naples and Louise Hamilton of Naples; two brothers, Robert of New Gloucester and Stanley Smith of Falmouth; four grand-children, Jason and Tony Kimball of Otisfield, Joshua Hamilton and Bradley Chamberlain of Bethel.

At the request of the family there are no services scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Roland Hammond
1999-01-07

Roland ``Bump" Hammond, 57, lifelong resident of Wiscasset, died Thursday, December 31 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Wiscasset on May 13, 1941, he was the son of Franklin H. and Stella Giles Hammond. His youthful passions were athletics and Corvettes. After graduating from Wiscasset High School in 1962, he served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in France and Germany.

In 1966 he married Susan Keene of Medomak. After trading in his well-polished Corvette for family life, Mr. Hammond worked at Bath Iron Works in various positions, ending his 30-year career as a senior planner.

A true family man, he will be best remembered for his kindness, integrity, and work ethic.

Beside his wife and parents, Mr. Hammond leaves two daughters, Angelica Hammond-Thibodeau of Bath and Tanya Hammond of Dresden; a son, Christian Hammond of Wiscasset; and one grandson, Isaac Hammond-Thibodeau of Bath.

A memorial service will be held at the Wiscasset Bible Baptist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 9 with Rev. Glen West officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Franklin Hammond
1999-02-11

Franklin H. Hammond, 80, of Wiscasset, died Wednesday, February 3 at Winship Green Nurs-ing Center in Bath.

Born on July 20, 1918, he was the son of George Roland and Rose (Hill) Hammond.

Mr. Hammond grew up in Dresden and graduated from Bridge Academy in Dresden. On August 30, 1940 he married Stella Giles of East Boothbay.

During World War II he entered the United States Army and in 1946 began his Marine Worm Digging Business that he owned and operated until his retirement in the 1980s. In the late 1950s he was recognized by the National Geographic for being the World's Largest Marine Worm Dealer.

Mr. Hammond was a member of the American Legion in Wiscasset, the Bath Lodge of Elks, and the Wiscasset Lions Club where he was extremely active in responding to Santa letters from the local children and active in the Toys for Tots program. He was a very prominent figure starting a recreational program for the Town of Wiscasset in the 1960s and 70s.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Hammond of Avon Park, Fla.; one son, James of Avon Park, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Susan K. Hammond of Wiscasset; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hammond was predeceased by a son, Roland T. Hammond, on January 3, 1999.

A funeral service was held Saturday, February 6 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, Federal Street, Wiscasset. Spring burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset.

Franklin H. Hammond

A committal service for Franklin H. Hammond, age 80, of Wiscasset, who died February 3, will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 14 in Greenlawn cemetery in Wiscasset with military honors. Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Judy G. Hankele
1999-07-08

Judy Giles Hankele (nee Barter), formerly of Boothbay, died suddenly on Monday, June 28 at her home in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey.

She was born in Boothbay Harbor on May 4, 1933, the daughter of Kenneth W. and Isabel Morrison Barter. Her grandparents were Arthur and Essie Barter of West Boothbay Harbor.

Mrs. Hankele was highly regarded at her last employment with Cen-Dent Mortgage Co. in Mt. Laurel where she received many Employee of the Month awards. She worked there over nine years.

Her first husband, Philip Giles of Boothbay, was the originator of the local business known as Giles Rubbish. He died in 1961 at the age of 31.

Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Giles Schreiber and her husband, Jim; two grandchildren, Brian and Kimberly; two sisters, Joan Reed of Boothbay Harbor and Lora Noreau of Barrie, Ontario; a cousin, M. Robert Barter of Boothbay Harbor; four half-sisters and a half brother of Nova Scotia, Ontario and Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, July 3 at Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay. Interment was at Ocean View Cemetery, Boothbay.

Amy E. Hanscom
1998-07-23

Amy E. Hanscom, 88, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at the Victorian Villa Boarding Home, where she had been a resident.

Born July 14, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Hartley and N. Gertrude (Sawyer) Hanscom. She received her early education at the Newry schools and afterwards attended Gould Academy.

A resident of Newry for the majority of her life, she worked on the family farm and in the home. She was an active member of the Newry Community Church, teaching Sunday School for many years. She also wrote the Newry news column for the Bethel Citizen and Advertiser Democrat for almost a quarter of a century.

Surviving are her brother, Rodney and a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Ruth) Cummings, both of Bethel; a special niece, Valda Glover of Rumford and several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Vada Enman, Ella Cole, Mable Hanscom and Hazel Newell and two brothers Ray and Roger.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, July 21, at the Newry Community Church, Route 26, Newry. Interment followed in the Head of Tide Cemetery.

Those who wish may make donations in Miss Hanscom's memory to the Newry Community Church, c/o Rodney Hascom, PO Box 644, Bethel, ME 04217.

Services were under the care of Greenleaf Funeral Home, Bethel.

Helen M. LaBosseire

Helen M. LaBossiere, 77, of Otisfield died Saturday July 18, 1998 at her residence in Otisfield.

Mrs. LaBossiere was born in Lynn, MA on January 11, 1921 the daughter of Stephen and Eva Therrian Longmire. She graduated from Lynn Classical of Lynn,MA.

Mrs. LaBossiere had been a housewife, a member of the East Otisfield Free Will Baptist Church, Ladies Circle, and the Oxford Extension Group.

She lived in Otisfield for many years.

Mrs. LaBossiere married Henry LaBossiere in June of 1937 and he died January 3, 1997.

She is survived by a son, Robert of Oxford; a daughter, Barbara Ann Brennan of Oxford; a sister, Marjorie Collomb of Otisfield; five grandchildren, Stephen LaBossiere of Otisfield, Robert S. LaBossiere of Wakefield,MA, Michael Brennan of Oxford, Michelle Mabry of Norway, and Kimberly Brennan of Lowell, MA; three great grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 22, at the Elm Wood cemetery in Otisfield with Rev. Gertrude DeCoteau officiating. Donations in Mrs. LaBossiere's memory may be sent to the Oxford-Otisfield Rescue PO Box 173 Oxford, ME 04270. Arrangements were under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.
