Mr. Archer Paris Howard
1998-12-24

BRIDGTON - Archer Paris Howard, 85, of Harrison, died Friday, December 18, 1998 at the Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton. A resident of the area since 1964, he lived on the Maple Ridge Road in Harrison and was formerly of East Peru, Maine.

Born on August 15, 1913 in Dixfield, he was the son of Arno G. and Carrie S. (Berry) Howard, and graduated from the Canton High School in Canton in the class of 1930.

For many years he ran and operated the Ma-Mere Farms, Inc. in Peru and Harrison until retirement. He was a 50 year member of the Peru Center Grange.

Having just celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary, he was married in Lewiston on June 6, 1938 to the late Pauline Ainsworth McGee who died in Bridgton on October 12, 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann R. Howard of Harrison; two sons, Philip O. Howard of Harrison and George R. Howard and his wife Nancy of Westbrook; three grandchildren, George R. Howard II and Amy M. Howard of Westbrook and Sarah N. Howard and her husband Mathew Strout of Bridgton.

At his request, there were no public calling hours, but friends were invited to attend the funeral services at the American Legion Hall on Church Street in South Paris with Mr. Dwight Pete Tripp officiating. Interment was in the East Peru cemetery in Peru.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Canton High School Alumni Association % Robert Stevens, 25 Canton Point Road, Canton Maine in memory of Mr. Howard. Arrangements were under the care of the Meader and Son Funeral Home, Rumford.

Arthur Leroy Hoyt
1999-02-18

WOLFEBORO, NH - Arthur Leroy Hoyt, 77, of Natures Way, formerly of Norway, Saco and Machias died February 14, at the Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro after a short battle with cancer.

Born in Machias on March 22, 1921, he was the son of the late Frank and Lena (Mcreac) Hoyt.

Mr. Hoyt worked as a truck driver for Pioneer Plastics, retiring in 1985. During the Korean War he served his country in the United States Army, fighting in Burma.

He was a member of the Veterans of foreign Wars. His hobbies included fishing and model railroading.

Survivors include his former wife, Beverly Hoyt of Saco; a son, Joseph Perry Hoyt of Wolfeboro; two daughters, L Tony Lecee of Bunnell, FL and Donna Wentworth of Oxford; two sisters, Shirley Hoyt of East Machias and Caroline Ewing of South Portland; his step mother, Miran Hoyt of East Machias; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

At his request there were no services.

Donations may be made in his memory to the VNA Hospice of Southern Carroll Country and Vicinity, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH.03894.

The Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes of Wolfeboro and West Ossipee were in charge of the arrangements.

Roger A. Huber
1998-06-25

Roger A. Huber, 77, of Easton, Maryland and a summer resident of East Boothbay for many years, died Thursday, June 18 at his home in Easton, Md. after a long battle with cancer.

He was born June 25, 1922 in Clarksville, Iowa, the son of Albert G. and Jenny Lind Wehran Huber.

He graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He was ordained a minister in the Presbyterian Church and served congregations in Chester, Pa., Scarborough, N.Y., Riverdale, N.Y., and Montclair, N.J. Following his ministry, Mr. Huber graduated from Seton Hall Law School, where he served as Director of Placement.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Elizabeth Gamble Thompson; his sister, Thelma; his daughters, Madge Henning, Grant Huber and Gamble Foster; his sons, Lare Huber and Evans Huber; and his grandchildren, Golo, Daniel, Evans, Emmett, Jennifer and Emily.

A memorial service was held Saturday, June 20 at Trinity Cathedral, Easton, Md. Interment was at Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, Md.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, Md. 21601

Arrangements are by the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home, Easton, Md.

Roland P. Humphrey
1999-03-04

SOUTH PARIS - Roland P. Humphrey, 97 of South Paris died Tuesday February 23, 1999 at his residence in South Paris.

He was born at New Gloucester, on January 18, 1902, the son of John W. and Lottie May Sawyer Humphrey.

He was educated in New Gloucester schools. He had worked for over 42 years in local shoe shops in the Norway area.

Mr. Humphrey was especially proud of his military service having worked on the "Flying Fortress" as an aircraft mechanic. He served during WWII in the United States Air Force.

He had lived in South Paris for many years. He married Marie Hudson on August 29, 1942 and she died in 1975.

He is survived by a daughter, Norma Hall of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren, Almon Hall of RI, David Hall of Mt. Vernon, Katherine Schulman of NJ, Gayla Pulkkinen of South Paris, JoAnn Howard of South Paris, John Dennis Farrow of Dallas, TX, Paul Humphrey, John Humphrey and William Humphrey all from Mississippi; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a son, Roland Paul Humphrey Jr.; two step-sons Harry and Joe Farrow and several Nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Norway Pine Grove cemetery in South Paris. Time and date will be announced later. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Weston Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Raymond C. Hunnewell
1998-11-05

NORWAY - Raymond C. Hunnewell, 92, of Mill St,, Oxford, died Monday, November 2,1998, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.

Mr. Hunnewell was born in Embden, on February 1, 1906 the son of Bert O. Berry and Sadie Clark.

As a youth he lived in Poland where he attended school. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII in Harbor Defense in Portland from February 26, 1941, to September 14, 1945.

On July 14, 1945 he married Edith (Betty) E. Perkins who survives him. He worked for Marcal Paper Co. in Mechanic, Falls for many years, retiring in 1972.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, Walter A. Haskell, of South Paris and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter in October, 1946, and a sister,

Graveside Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 6, at Highland cemetery in West Poland. Arrangements are under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway, ME.

Sonny Hunter
1998-12-03

Sonny Hunter, 58, Whitefield, died unexpectedly Nov. 24, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus emergency room.

He was born in Gardiner on Jan. 12, 1940, the son of Carleton F. Sr., and Gladys M. Thebeau Hunter.

Sonny had been employed at Lipman Poultry for 13 years, Swift Independant Packing Co. for 13 years, Jerry Severance for 13 years and most recently he was a self-employed truck driver.

He was a loving father, husband and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Betty Severance Hunter of Whitefield; his children, Carla and her husband, Ken Black, of West Gardiner, Jerry and wife, Sue Hunter, of Mount Vernon, Richard Hunter of Whitefield and Dawn and husband, Eric Whitemore, of South Gardiner; five grandchildren, Lee Buotte, Megan Hunter, Tim Whitemore, Alexis and Samantha Cookson-Garland; one brother; two sisters, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held on Nov. 27 at Staples Funeral Home, Gardiner.

Robert W. Hunter
1998-12-31

Robert Whitaker Hunter, 49, of Boothbay, died at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Saturday, December 26.

Born in Worcester, Mass., September 4, 1949, he was the son of Robert H. and Esther Whitaker Hunter.

He graduated from Auburn High School and attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In earlier years, Mr. Hunter trained and showed race horses. He worked for the Norton Co., in Worcester, Mass. In 1979, he moved to Boothbay and became assistant road foreman for the Town of Boothbay. He owned and operated Holiday Upholstery. A member of the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service for the past five years, he was vice chairman and an intermediate EMT.

Mr. Hunter served on the Boothbay planning board and building committee and was a former member of the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club. He was an avid fisherman and golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Hunter of Boothbay; one daughter, Candace Crocker of Cumberland; two stepsons, Kevin Ames of Portsmouth, N.H. and Aaron Ames of Chilicothe, Ohio; his mother, Esther Hunter Moore and stepfather, Erwin Moore of Rutland, Mass.; one brother, Charles Hunter of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two sisters, Cynthia Hale of Boothbay Harbor and Deborah Hunt of Rutland, Mass.; several aunts and uncles; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, December 29 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Boothbay Region Ambulance Building Fund, 11 Howard Street, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Route 27, Boothbay.

Beverly F. Hutchins
1999-03-18

Beverly Farnham Hutchins, 74, of Boothbay Harbor died Sunday, March 14 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

Born April 14, 1924 in Boothbay Harbor, she was the daughter of Frederick F. and Doris Brewer Farnham. She grew up and attended local schools, graduating from Boothbay Harbor High School in the class of 1942.

Mrs. Hutchins worked as a burner at Sample's Shipyard during World War II. She later worked on Squirrel Island at a local appliance store, and several other businesses. She also worked at the Lobstermen's Co-op as a lobster picker in the early 1970s.

She enjoyed bowling, horses and was an animal lover.

Mrs. Hutchins was predeceased by her husband, Clinton S. Hutchins who died October 10, 1983.

Survivors include one son, David C. Hutchins of Boothbay Harbor; one brother, Merle W. Farnham of Boothbay Harbor; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 19 at the Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay. The Rev. Allan Wells-Goodwin will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boothbay Region Humane Society, P.O. Box 303, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Arrangements are under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.

Beverly F. Hutchins
1999-03-18

Beverly Farnham Hutchins, 74, Boothbay Harbor, died March 14 at St. Andrews Hospital.

She was born in Boothbay Harbor, a daughter of Frederick F. and Doris Brewer Farnham, and attended local schools, graduating from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1942.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Fri., March 19, at Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay, with the Rev. Allan Wells- Goodwin officiating. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.
