Tyyne E. Immonen
1998-04-02

Tyyne E. Immonen, 79, of Pine Street, South Paris, died Tuesday morning, March 24, 1998, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Worcester, MA on April 26,1918, the daughter of Matti and Emilia Karpinen Heikkinen and attended Sumner schools.

She lived in the New York City area and worked at various jobs and during World War II she worked in the Ranger Airplane Factory. On September 27,1945, she married Alvar Immonen. Mrs. Immonen worked over 20 years in the school lunch program for S.A.D. 17. She was a member of the Mission Congregational Church and sisters of Dorcus in West Paris and the Finnish American Heritage society.

Survivors include her husband of South Paris; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Polly Immonen of Raymond, NH; one brother Veini Heikkinen of Washington, ME; two sisters Elna Bergeron of Lewiston and Elvie Hoaglund of Copiaque, NY; a grandson, Jared, and a granddaughter, Sarah.

Graveside services will be held later in the spring at the Finnish Cemetery,West Paris. The time and date will be announced later.

Etta S. Immonen
1998-10-29

NORWAY Etta S. Immonen, 82, of Bethel Road, West Paris, died Thursday morning, October 22, 1998, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in West Paris,October 9,1916, the daughter of Karl and Greta Heikkinen Linti. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford.

She married Emil Immonen and together they ran a poultry business. Mr. Immonen died in 1982. Mrs Immonen was a member of the Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine.

She is survived by a son, Stephen, of West Paris and two grandchildren, Karl and Derk Norberg.

Mrs. Immonen was predeceased by a daughter Aili Norberg who died in 1985; two sisters, Helen House and Kay Tamminen and three brothers, Hannes, Kario and Esko Linti.

Family and friends attended graveside services Saturday at the Finnish Cemetery,West Paris. Those who wish may make memorial gifts in her memory to the Finnish-American Heritage Society, P.O.Box 294, West Paris, ME. or Tri-Town Rescue, P. O. Box 275, West Paris, ME. 04289.

Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris

Jacob J. Immonen
1999-04-22

NORWAY - Jacob J. Immonen, 91, of Main Street, West Paris, passed away on April 18, 1999, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born on January 13, 1908, in Woodstock, the son of the Late Lauri and Annie (Mikkonen) Immonen. He attended schools in Woodstock and West Paris, taught school in West Paris, and graduated from Bates College in 1929. He worked in and managed retail and consumer cooperative businesses in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New York.

Mr. Immonen served in the Army Air Corps (1942-46), completing the Army Specialized Training Program in Finnish, at the University of Minnesota.

After his father's death in 1949, he resettled in West Paris and ran the family pulpwood business.

He married Barbara A. Nelson, of Quincy, MA, in 1955. In West Paris he served on the school board, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Selectmen. He was elected to the state legislature for seven terms (1966-81) and was active in the Republican Party. He was also a member of the American Legion, Granite Lodge, A.F.& A.M. of West Paris, as well as the West Paris Historical Society.

Fluent in Finnish, Mr. Immonen was a founding member of the Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine and was active in the Mission (Finnish) Congregational Church. He often shared his knowledge of the Oxford County Finnish community and its roots.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara , of West Paris; his son, Lauri, of Portland; his daughter, Susanna, and son-in-law, Gregory Brougham, of Beverly, MA and several cousins. A brother, Edward, predeceased him in 1926.

Funeral services will be held at the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock, on Thursday, April 22 at 1 p.m.; Interment in the Finnish Cemetery, W. Paris.

Bertha Ingalls
1998-07-23

Bertha Ingalls, 80, of Taunton, MA, formerly of Norway died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at the Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA.

She was born in Kingston, MA on April 1, 1918, the daughter of Leroy and Grace Smith Jackson.

Mrs. Ingalls was educated in Kingston schools. She had worked for many years as a bookkeeper retiring from Hall Smith-Cysco in Raynham, MA.

Mrs. Ingalls was a member of the OES, Rebekas, American Legion, Christ Episcopal Church of Norway, Maine and the Poland Spring Country Club.

She married Edwin L. Ingalls on August 30, 1941 and he died on July 24, 1994.

She is survived by a niece, Nancy Gosselin of Lakeville, MA whom she had lived with for over four years; a nephew, Thomas Dowd of Falmouth,MA; three sisters, Evelyn Moskos and Eleanor Zaniboni both of Bradenton, FL, and Jane Dowd of Lakeville,MA and a brother Leroy Jackson of San Dumas, CA

A Mass was held Saturday at the Christ Episcopal Church in Norway. Interment was in the ElmWood cemetery in Otisfield.

Gail E. Irish
2000-11-02

LEWISTON - Gail E. Irish, 60, of Mechanic Falls died Saturday, October 28 at d'Youville Pavilion.

She was born in Portsmouth, NH, September 9, 1940, the daughter of Arthur E. and Phyllis Fuller Irish, Jr.

She graduated from Traip Academy in 1958 and Gorham State Teachers College in 1962. She taught school in Auburn and Mechanic Falls, worked for the United Valley Chapter, American Red Cross in Auburn, AT&T in Portland and Cranston, RI, and most recently worked for the Department of Human Services in Lewiston. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She enjoyed gardening, photography, traveling, genealogy, local folklore and will be remembered for her caring heart and helping others. She was kept comfortable in her last days with the care she received at St. Mary's and d'Youville Pavilion.

Survivors include three sons, Eric and Steven Miner, both of Auburn, David Miner of Mechanic Falls; a daughter, Amy Miner of Auburn; her mother, Phyllis Irish of Portsmouth, NH; a brother, David Irish of Norway; her aunt, Eva Hannan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery in Mechanic Falls.

Those who wish may make contributions to the American Red Cross, United Valley Chapter, Auburn, ME. Make a Wish Foundation, 87 Elm St., Camden, ME or the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Dorothy Ivernizzi
1999-02-18

Dorothy M. Ivernizzi, 90, Somerville, Mass., died Feb. 5 at Cambridge Nursing Home following a brief illness.

Born and raised in Rockland, she was the daughter of Frank and Constance Moody Gray.

Mrs. Ivernizzi resided in Somerville, Mass., since 1924. She often spent summers in Rockland and the surrounding area.

She was the widow of Joseph S. Ivernizzi.

Survivors include her brother, Floyd E. Young of Cudjoe Key, Fla.; a niece, Constance Baum of South Thomaston; and nephews, William Warren of Rockland and Jeffery Young of Colorado Springs, Col.

Mrs. Ivernizzi's remains will be buried in Mt. Auburn cemetery in Massachusetts. At her request, there are no funeral services. Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home, Cambridge, Mass.

Louis E. Imhof Jr.
2004-09-09

Louis Eugene Imhof Jr., 72, resident of Bloomfield, N.J. and summer resident of Boothbay Harbor, died Saturday, September 4, at his summer residence after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease.

Born March 8, 1932, in White Plains, N.Y., he was the son of Louis Henry and Regina Josephine Dowling Imhof.

He grew up in Manhattan, N.Y., having graduated from Guardian Angels Grammar School, Cardinal Hayes High School, and Manhattan College, as well as having attended N.Y.U. Graduate School of Business.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served overseas from 1954 to 1956.

Mr. Imhof retired as vice president of J. P. Morgan Bank in New York in 1995 after 35 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Angela Musetto Imhof of Bloomfield, N.J. and Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Michele Louise Imhof and her husband Stephen E. Davis of Manhattan, N.Y. and East Boothbay, and Lenore Marie Imhof, Esq. of Bloomfield and East Boothbay; two sons, Louis Eugene Imhof III, and Roger Joseph Imhof, Esq., both of Bloomfield, N.J. and his fianc Amy Elizabeth Liebmann of Hamburg, N.J.; a sister, Jean Collette O'Leary and her husband Raymond K. O'Leary of Sparta, N.J.; many nieces, nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated Wednesday, September 8 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Boothbay Harbor, with Rev. James Doherty, C.S.C. and Rev. Ray Picard officiating. Internment was at St. Patrick's cemetery in Newcastle.

Arrangements were entrusted to Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Jeanne G. Irmischer
2004-08-19

After a short illness, Jeanne Guilbert Irmischer died peacefully on Wednesday, August 11 at her home in East Boothbay, surrounded by family.

Daughter of Richard and Grace Guilbert, she was born in 1931 in New York City. She grew up in Fairfield County, Conn. and was graduated from Daycroft School. She attended Univ. of Michigan and received a degree from Andover College.

In 1964, she married Rudolf Irmischer, her husband of 38 years. They became entrepreneurs by establishing Nordic Woodstoves in Greenwich, Conn. which continues to thrive today.

They resided for 35 years in Greenwich, Conn. and summered in Maine. For the last three years, her winter residence was Tucson, Ariz.

Mrs. Irmischer was a devoted mother, wife, and friend. Her passions included travel, the arts, skiing, tennis, and her hobby of stained glass.

She was predeceased by her husband, and is survived by two daughters, Julie Irmischer Bowes of New Fairfield, Conn. and Krista Irmischer of South Portland; grandchildren, Trevor and Tatum Bowes; and one brother, Richard Guilbert Jr. of Hilton Head, S.C.

A joint memorial celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Irmischer will take place on August 21 from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the Irmischer cottage in East Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ocean Point Colony Trust Inc. - Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 642, East Boothbay, ME 04544.

Rudolf M. Irmischer
2003-10-16

Rudolf Max Irmischer, 70, of East Boothbay and Tucson, Arizona died Tuesday October 7.

Born in Braunschweig, Germany, son of the late Elisabeth Poweleit Irmischer and Max Albert Irmischer, Rudi was raised in Saalfeld, which had become East Germany after World War II. He "voted with his feet" by escaping East Germany in 1948. He came to the United States in 1952. When his family reunited in America, he became a skillful father figure to his younger sisters, raising his first of two families.

His careers reflected his natural leadership. Rudi went into his own woodworking business, then became manager of Harbor Marine in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 1974 he and his wife started their hearth business, Nordic Woodstove, Inc., in answer to the energy crisis. He retired in 1998.

Rudi was known for his kindness to all creatures big and small, his humor, gentleness, strength, optimism, spirituality and his ability to tell great stories. His passions were his entire family, friends, nature, travel, fine woodworking, the arts, sailing, skiing, tennis, cooking and inexpensive good wine. "He was everyone's captain."

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Guilbert Irmischer, two daughters, Julie Bowes of New Fairfield, Connecticut and Krista Irmischer of Portland, Maine, two grandchildren, Trevor and Tatum Bowes, a brother, Dieter Irmischer of Tucson, Arizona and two sisters, Elisabeth Piatt and Elke Kyff, both of Culpeper, Virginia.

A memorial service will be held August 21, 2004 at the Irmischer cottage at Ocean Point in East Boothbay.

Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.
