Vanessa Jordan, 19
2004-07-23

Vanessa Mary Jordan, 19, of Windham, died unexpectedly from injuries sustained in a car accident on July 12, 2004.

She was born on September 22, 1984 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. She attended Poland High School and enrolled in the University of Maine. She was currently a student at Central Maine Community College. She was also an assistant manager of Dominoes in Windham. Vanessa was a bright, happy, energetic, young woman who loved life to the fullest. She modeled for L.L. Bean as a young girl and enjoyed softball, skiing, water skiing, sailing and snowmobiling. Vanessa loved spending time with her friends and had a deep passion for music. Most of all, she made everyone around her smile. Vanessa was a positive inspiration to everyone she met, and will be in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her parents, Wayne Jordan, of Gray, Karen Jordan, of Windham, a brother, Brian Jordan of Westbrook, Grandmother Jane Jordan of Raymond and a grandfather, Richard McKenzie of Portland. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visiting hours were last Friday at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at St Joseph's Church, 673 Stevens Avenue, Portland. Father Don Bosco Duquette was the Celebrant. Committal will be in Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Spurwink Avenue, Cape Elizabeth.

Arrangements were under the care of Wilson Funeral Home, Gray.

In our hearts-we will never forget our baby Vanessa.

Elizabeth Justesen
2004-05-13

Elizabeth Justesen, 87, of Londonderry, Vt., passed away Wednesday, May 5 at the Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath.

Born on November 25, 1916 in Passaic, N.J., she was the daughter of John and Helen (Bomhoff) Thoolen. She attended schools in Cifton, N.J.

On July 23, 1937, she married her husband Norman Justesen. They were married 38 years.

Mrs. Justesen was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and was a member of the United Methodist Church quilting group in Manasquan, N.J. and of the Second Congregational Church quilting group in Londonderry, Vt.

She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Justesen in 1975; and sister, Ida Michel in 1998.

Survivors include sister, Joan Boyes of Hamburg, N.J.; son, Norman and wife Karen, of Truckee, Calif.; daughter, Bonnie Allen and husband, Jack of East Boothbay; five granddaughters, Britta Justesen of San Diego, Calif., Jill Dalton of Portland, Stacey Justesen of Norfolk, Va., Cori Dalton of Asbury Park, N.J., Dana Dalton of Wallingford, Conn.; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be private and under the care and direction of Simmons Harrington & Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.

Memorial contributions may be made to a Local Alzheimer's Association or to the Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 911, Londonderry, VT 05148-0911.

Imogene Johnson
2005-10-13

Imogene Catlin Grocock Johnson, 92, of Newcastle, died on Thursday, October 6 while a resident of Cove’s Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta.

She graduated from Torrington High School in Connecticut, and the University of Connecticut in 1934.

In 1937, she married to Thomas Jason Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson taught Home Economics in day school, and evening classes at Torrington High School.

While living in Connecticut she was a member of the Center Congregational Church of Torrington.

Upon retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were active in the Edgecomb Congregational Church. She belonged to Ladies Aid Extension, and was a DAR member in the Marana Norton Brooks Chapter in Torrington.

In 1972, they retired to Maine.

Sewing and cooking, knitting and crafts, woodland flowers, houseplants and writing letters to friends were her joys.

While residing at Hodgdon Green Assisted Living of Eldercare Family Network, Mrs. Johnson won the "Remember Me" program sponsored by the State of Maine.

Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Jean Robinson of Stonington, Conn., and Joyce Ruth St. Pierre of New Harbor; five grandchildren, Faith, Wayne, Jennifer, Cynthia and Clifford; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at the Edgecomb Congregational Church Tuesday, October 11.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cove’s Edge Activity Fund, c/o Jenelle Cummings, 26 Schooner Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Damariscotta.

Bela Jordan passes away suddenly
2005-02-11

Bela "Eddie" Jordan, 44, died suddenly on Thursday, February 3, with his family at his side at Central Maine Medical Center.

Eddie grew up in New Gloucester, graduating from Gray-New Gloucester High School in 1979. After three years in the Army, he worked and traveled the world. He had an infectious personality and was loved dearly by all who were blessed to know him.

On his farmhouse in Mechanic Falls, he worked with his animals, and spent time fixing up his farmhouse with his longtime buddy, Ken Sumner.

There are no words to say how much he will be missed by his mother, Edith Jordan, of Auburn, who he loved dearly. He is also survived by his sisters, Debra White and Kathy Pierce, both of New Gloucester; his brothers, Dean Jordan, of Poland, and Rick Jordan, of Casco; three nieces, Shona Gonsalves, Chasity White and Ashley Jordan; and a nephew, James Jordan.

He was predeceased by his dads, Bela Jordan, Sr., in the year 2000.

A gathering of remembrance and celebration will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 13, at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray. Immediately following the remembrance period, there will be a party in Eddie's honor at the Amvets Hall, Lewiston Road, New Gloucester, from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M. A graveside service will be held in the spring.

Donald Jackson dies
2006-03-17

Donald Jackson, 76, of Gray, went to be with the Lord peacefully at his home on March 11 after a battle with cancer.

Don was born on December 29, 1930.

He enjoyed being outside, working with firewood, taking care of his cows and singing hymns at church. We will be missed greatly.

He is survived by one sister, Gladys Phinney, of Gray, five nephews-Bruce Smart and his wife Pat, of Windham, Bryan Phinney, of Gray, Abraham Phinney, of Windham, Christian Phinney and his wife Brenda, of New Gloucester, and Kerry Phinney, of Gray-two nieces-Maxine, of LaMesa, California, and Heather Phinney, of Gray.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 18, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M., with a memorial service at 11 A.M., at the Bible Believing Baptist church, Center Road, Gray. Reverend Darwin Vail will officiate.

Inez M. Jacobs
2006-03-23

Inez "Peg" Morton Jacobs of Edgecomb, died at the Heritage Rehabilitation Home in Winthrop on Tuesday, Marcy 14.

Born in Augusta on June 22, 1904, she was the daughter of Frank C. and Eva L. Morton.

Graduating from Cony High School in 1922, she worked in the Maine Statehouse until her marriage to Robert L. Jacobs in 1924. They lived in South Paris, Smyrna Mills, Hampden and finally, Gardiner.

For more than 20 years she was secretary to the superintendent of schools in Gardiner. During these years, she was active in civic events, including Girl Scouts, and worked as an air raid warden during World War II.

In 1954, they purchased a home in Edgecomb where was active in BPW, Ladies Aid, Retired Teachers, the cemetery Committee of Edgecomb and the Women's Extension. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Edgecomb where she was in the choir and played the piano for more than 20 years. She also worked with school children in Edgecomb, putting on yearly operettas. In 1968, she was honored by the University of Maine as Woman of the Year.

With the financial help of the Knox-Lincoln Club, she established the Virginia Masse Scholarship Fund which offers deserving students in Knox or Lincoln counties assistance for the second college semester.

Mrs. Jacobs was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 1964; and her two sons, Robert Jr., in 1998, and Donald M. in 1999.

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Jacobs Christopoulos of San Antonio, Fla; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at the Congregational Church in Edgecomb on Sunday, March 19. Burial was in the North Edgecomb Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Edgecomb Congregational Church UCC, P.O. Box 113, Edgecomb, ME 04556.

Fred Kautzmann
1999-07-08

Fred Kautzmann, 105, of Salisbury, Connecticut, died at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, Connecticut on July 4, 1999.

Born in Manhattan, New York, he grew up in Brooklyn, and served in the Medical Corps in World War I. Most of his adult life was spent in Demarest, New Jersey where he owned a grocery store and later a general contracting business.

He was married to Louise Plettenberg for 62 years. She died in 1988.

An avid gardener and amateur painter, he was active in the Demarest Volunteer Fire Department, R. Bradner Tilt American Legion Post and the North Jersey Chrysanthemum Society.

At the age of 91 he retired to Boothbay. While in Boothbay he was the honored recipient of the Boston Cane which he relinquished when he became a resident of Noble Horizons in Salisbury, Connecticut.

Survivors include one son, William Kautzmann of Boothbay; one daughter, Katherine Joseph of Sharon, Conn., and New York City; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A private service in New York is planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in his name to Noble Horizons, 17 Cobble Rd., Salisbury, CT 06068.

George Kayser
1998-11-12

AUBURN George Kayser, 79, of Minot Avenue in Auburn, died Friday, October 30, 1998, at his residence.

He was born at Bronx, New York on August 11, 1919, the son of George and Johanna Nargang Kayser.

He was educated in New York schools and received his B.S. in mechanical engineering at Fort Schuyler N.Y.S. Maritime Academy. He served as Chief Diving Officer in the U.S. Navy submarine service during World War II. He served as First Assistant Engineer in the Merchant Marine both before and after the war. He was later employed as a mechanical engineer in the insurance industry.

Mr. Kayser was a member of Christ Church in Norway. He was an accomplished woodcarver and enjoyed music and reading.

He is survived by five daughters, Elissa Ann Fletcher of Roswell, Georgia; Christine Helene Kayser of Staten Island, New York; Marilyn Jeanne Kayser of West Windsor, New Jersey; Heidi Marie Kayser and Erica Johanna Kayser both of Portland. He also has eight grandchildren: Neil Bryan Fletcher, Michael Harry Fletcher, Daniel Fletcher and William Christopher Fletcher, all of Roswell, Georgia. Other grandchildren are: Courtney Christine Kayser and George Gregory Kayser, both of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; John William Lilly and Matthew James Lilly, both of West Windsor, New Jersey and a brother, Rudolph Kayser of Coram, New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church in Norway. Those wishing may make donations to the Portland Conservatory of Music, 44 Oak Street, Portland, ME 04101.

Joyce M. Keach
1998-05-14

WEST PARIS Joyce M. Keach, 70, of West Sumner, died on Friday, May 8, 1998, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Barbie Keach, of West Paris, after a short illness.

Born in Vienna on September 10, 1927, to Eugene and Angie (Weston)

Weymouth, she was later adopted by Judge John H. and Della (Davis) Maxwell on October 1, 1928.

She attended school in Auburn and Florida, graduating at 16 from St. Petersburgh High School in Florida. She attended two years at the Farmington State Teachers College, Farmington.

On April 21, 1949, Joyce married Willard Keach in Maine. He died in 1980.

She was a member of the West Sumner Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed church and teaching in the Christian School up to one month before her death. She also enjoyed gardening and quilting, but her greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by 10 of her children, Betty, Wilma, Bill, Della, Jim, Rick, Bob, Dan, Ron, and Steve; 12 grandchildren; her sister, Lillian; a twin brother, John, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Willard, and two daughters Lorene and Baby Keach.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, May 11 at the West Sumner Baptist Church with Interment in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Auburn. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Larry Thurlow. Bagpiper George Pulkinen played a number of hymns at the cemetery including `Amazing Grace.' Serving as bearers were sons James, Richard, Robert, Daniel, Ron, and Steve Keach. Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock was in charge of arrangements.
