Thomas T. King
1998-03-05

NORWAY - Thomas T. King, 64, of South Paris died Monday, February 23, 1998, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. He was born in Portland on May 9, 1933, the son of Captain A. Lincoln King, U.S.N. R. and Lael Terpena King.

Mr. King graduated from Deering High School in Portland and attended the University of Maine at Orono. Prior to becoming disabled in 1970, Mr. King worked as an electrical draftsman in California.

He then returned to the area and had lived for many years at the ElJan Retirement Home in Oxford.

Mr. King's great-great grandfather, Samuel King, settled in South Paris around 1790. Mr. King was the last family member bearing the King name left in the area. He was an avid solver of crossword puzzles and an active correspondent with many friends and relatives. He had a life-long interest in natural science.

He is survived by a daughter, Frances M. King of San Francisco; two sisters, Elizabeth K. Otterson of Paris and Judith K. Atwood of West Redding, CN; a brother, Lincoln H. King of Carthage, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held in the summer at the Durrell Hill cemetery in South Paris. Arrangements are under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

James J. Kinney Jr.
1998-07-30

James J. Kinney Jr., age 54, of Westport Island died Monday, July 27 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick after a battle with lung cancer.

Born in Bath on July 29, 1943, he was the son of James J. Sr. and Margaret (McDougall) Kinney.

He attended Bath schools and married Joyce Buckley on December 30, 1967. He owned and operated Kinney & Daughters Masonry. Mr. Kinney leaves behind many monuments of his distinctive and creative brick work in the surrounding area. Some of these are: the Masonic Temple on Baribeau Drive in Brunswick, the Emergency Room entrance at Parkview Hospital in Brunswick and several homes in the area are graced with lovely brick work or stone work Mr. Kinney crafted. For the last eight years he was employed at Bath Iron Works.

Mr. Kinney was a noble member of the KORA Temple in Lewiston, member of the Bricklayers Mason Plasterers International Union of America in Bangor where he taught the apprenticeship program, a charter member of the Exiles in Bangor, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bath where he served as an altar boy.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce M. Kinney of Westport Island; three daughters, Angelena M. Hehn of Boaz, Alabama and her husband Charles, Sherry L. Hardman of Wolfboro, N.H. and her husband Ross, and Jamie J. Kinney of Boaz, Alabama; two brothers, Terry McDougall of Freeport and Arthur Kinney of Portland; two sisters, Judy Young of St. Stevens, Canada and Zenna Inness of Rangeley; four grandchildren, T.J., Kaytelynne, Charles, Baby Hardman and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Addison Kinney.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 30 at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31 with Fr. Joseph McKenna officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery in Bath.

Memorial contributions to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, c/o the Jimmy Fund, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02115.

Francis J. Klein
1999-02-25

Francis Joseph Klein, 77, of Laurel, Delaware, died Sunday, February 14 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, Del. after a long illness. He was a long-time summer visitor to Capitol Island, Southport.

He was born in Wilmington, Del., the son of the late Esther Anna (Hartnett) Klein and Karl Vanerian Leopold Klein.

After graduating from Salesianum High School in Wilmington, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned to the 505th Quartermaster Car Company attached to SHAEF and was present at the Inter-Allied Conference of July 1945 and the Tripartite Conference in Berlin.

He returned to Wilmington after the war, where he worked for the Atlas Powder Company while earning his degree in chemical engineering at the University of Delaware. He then took a position with the E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company, working in the Process Group of the Nylon Division. He retired in 1985.

Before becoming ill, he was a member of the choir at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury, Maryland.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Marie Stees Klein of Laurel, Del.; a son, Karl Stees Klein of Laurel, Del.; two brothers, Leonard J. Klein Sr. and Karl V. L. Klein, both of Clayton, Del.; a sister, Louise M. Klein Mizerak of Stanton, Del.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Thursday, February 18 at the Short Funeral Home in Laurel, Del. Father David Tontonoz officiated. Interment was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by the Short Funeral Home, Laurel, Del.

Zilpha A. Kneeland
1998-07-09

SOUTH PARIS - Zilpha A. Kneeland, 99, of Norway died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at the Market Square Health Care Facility in South Paris. She was born IN Sweden, Maine on October 13, 1898, the daughter of Owen and Arethusa Bennett Haskell. She was educated in Sweden schools.

Mrs. Kneeland worked at the Sno-Craft in Norway for many years. She was a member of the Norway Grange.

She is survived by one cousin Charles E. Bennett of Sweden.

Interment was Monday, July 6, at the Haskell cemetery in Sweden.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Nathalie A. Knight
1999-02-18

Nathalie A. Knight, 90, Bristol, died Feb. 10 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a brief illness.

She was born Sept. 26, 1908 in South Bristol, a daughter of Sanford K. and Laura Dodge Seiders.

For 26 years she lived in Cape Elizabeth, moving back to her native South Bristol, and later to Bristol. She was a truly dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star in South Bristol.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde E. Knight, in 1962, by a son, Harold J. Knight, and by ten brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two sons, Clyde E. Knight, Jr. of Iowa Park, Tex., and Clayton P. Knight of Garden City, Ga.; three daughters, Marilyn Seiders and Pauline Farrin, both of Bristol, and Louise Lewis of Rockland; a brother, Sanford K. Seiders, Jr.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine step- grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Feb. 15 at West Bristol Cemetery, Walpole, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Arrangements are under the direction of Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta.

If desired, donations may be made to either the American Cancer Society, 52 Federal St., Brunswick 04011, or to the South Bristol Union Church, South Bristol 04568.

Genevieve T. Knight
1999-05-06

Genevieve Thomas Knight, 83, of Boothbay Harbor, died at the St. Andrews Gregory Wing on Wednesday, April 28.

Born in Boothbay Harbor on February 24, 1916, she was the daughter of Harry and Genevieve Pinkham Thomas. She graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1934.

Mrs. Knight worked as a bank teller for the Depositors Trust/Key Bank, retiring after 27 years of service.

In 1949 she married James Knight in Boothbay Harbor and would have been married 50 years this June. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters in Boothbay Harbor and the St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary. She attended Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Knight was a lover of cats.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 50 years, James Knight of Boothbay Harbor; one sister, Mary Alley of East Boothbay; and two nephews, David and Stephen Alley, both of East Boothbay.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, May 1 at the Oceanview cemetery in Boothbay. The Rev. DanaBeth Wells-Goodwin officiated.

Donations may be made to the Boothbay Region Humane Society, P.O. Box 583, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. Arrangements were by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Elizabeth Mellie Knightly
1998-12-31

NORWAY - Elizabeth Mellie Knightly, 84, of Norway died Wednesday December 23, 1998 at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born in Otisfield the daughter of Arthur and Mable Holman Wyman. She was a graduate of Norway High School in 1933.

She married Sherwood F. Knightly on June 30, 1939. Mrs. Knightly during the 1930's worked as a nurses assistant for a Dr. Bean.

She was a homemaker and helped manage the Knightly farm and truck garden. She was past grandmaster of Mount Hope Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of the 4H Club. She was a member of Norway Grange #45, Oxford Pomona, State, and National Granges. She loved to feed the birds and deer, do a lot of gardening and also crocheting. Mrs. Knightly liked to make things for her family, and always put her family first.

She is survived by her husband, Sherwood, of Norway; a daughter, Jane Chapman, of Randolph; a son, Sherman Knightly, of Swanzey, NH, five grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister Eldora Watson in 1991.

At the request of the family there are no services scheduled at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Knightly's memory can be made to the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, 29 Marion Ave. ,Norway. Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Peter P. Kovach
1998-03-26

Peter Paul Kovach, 54, of Federal Street, Wiscasset, a former telephone company executive and marketing expert, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 19 in Boston Massachusetts.

Born in Portland, he was a son of Paul Peter and Adelaide O. Leslie Kovach. He attended South Portland High School and a graduate of the University of Maine, and pursued graduate studies at Boston College and Babson College.

Mr. Kovach served as a director for public and community relations for New England Telephone and also managed area business offices. He retired in 1996.

At the time of his death he was president of Maine Events Marketing in Wiscasset and recently was responsible for planning and coordinating fund-raising and marketing for the opening of the Casco Bay Bridge and Merrill Auditorium.

Mr. Kovach began his career with New England Telephone in 1970. At the time he and his wife lived in Newburyport, Mass. In 1980, the family moved to Canterbury, N.H., where, in addition to his phone company duties, Mr. Kovach tried his hand at farming.

Once, while playing softball on the farm, he broke his leg. Stuck in a cast, he taught himself to cross-stitch and stitched designs of tractors and ponies for his children.

After moving to Maine in 1982, Mr. Kovach served on the Maine Public Relations Council's board of directors, the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Portland's Chamber of Commerce and the United Way, serving as campaign chairman in 1989. He also was a member of the Rotary, municipal boards, committees and youth athletics.In the late 1980s, while still working for the phone company, Mr. Kovach went into the sea urchin business.

He enjoyed meeting people, golf and lacrosse. Just this past January he realized his dream of playing at Pebble Beach, Calif., in a golf tournament for the Kidney Foundation. And he served as director of the Portland Lacrosse Program.

He rarely missed one of his son's lacrosse games over the past eight years. He and his wife were at Boston's Logan International Airport on Thursday, headed to his son's lacrosse game in Maryland, when he died suddenly.

He also enjoyed boating and cooking, and was renowned for his New Year's Eve menus.Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Barbara J. Dowling Kovach of Wiscasset; a son, Michael P. of Fairfield, Conn.; a daughter, Holly L. Kovach of Portland; and several aunts and uncles.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 24 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, South Portland.

Joseph Krason
1998-06-18

Joseph Krason, 73, of Lewiston, died early Friday morning, June 12 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

Born in Lewiston on May 7, 1925, he was the son of Anthony and Teofila Bialy Krason.

Mr. Krason was educated in local schools and was employed by W.S. Libby company as superintendent until his retirement.

He then went to the Ocean Point Inn at Ocean Point and really enjoyed meeting people and working with his son Tony at the inn as a director of maintenance.

Mr. Krason was an avid Red Sox fan. He belonged to the Polish Club and was a member of St. Patrick's Church.

In 1949 he married the former Wynona Farr. She died in 1989.

Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Klemanski of Lewiston; one son, Anthony of Boothbay; one sister, Frances of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Randy, Shannon and Deanna Klemanski; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis.

He was predeceased by a sister, Stella, and a brother, John.

Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Church in Lewiston on Tuesday, June 16. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Fahey Forrest Funeral Home in Lewiston.
