Dr. Clifford Kiehn
2004-03-04

Clifford Kiehn, M.D., 96, a resident of St. Andrews Village and former longtime resident of Cleveland, Ohio and New Bern, N.C., died Friday, February 27 at his residence after a brief illness.

Dr. Kiehn was born April 7, 1907 in Detroit, Mich., a son of Adolph Henry and Eleanor C. Horne Kiehn. He attended Detroit and Buchanan, Mich. schools, and graduated from the Ferris Institute. He then attended the University of Michigan Dental School, class of 1930, and the University of Michigan Medical School.

Dr. Kiehn entered the U.S. Army during World War II and served 3 and 1/2 years at the Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, England, studying plastic surgery under Sir H. Gillies, a pioneer in the field of plastic surgery.

After his discharge, he returned to Cleveland, Ohio, where he opened his own practice, which he operated for many years. He also taught oral surgery at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and has a chair in plastic surgery at the University.

He enjoyed trout fishing, sculpting, golfing and doing crossword puzzles.

Dr. Kiehn is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Ann MacNab Kiehn, and his second wife, Verneda Miller Kiehn.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances Browne of Boothbay; a sister, Elizabeth Kiehn of Southport; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Philip J. Kilton
2004-06-10

Philip Johnson Kilton, 88, of Boothbay, passed away Sunday, May 30 at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born in Milbridge on July 11, 1915, he was a son of Walter and Nellie Willey Kilton.

Mr. Kilton was a truck driver for Browns Wharf and also had an excavating business and was co-owner of Mill Cove Lobster Pound for many years.

He was a World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion Charles E. Sherman Post #36. He loved animals especially his cats.

He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Alice G. Kilton who passed away in 1992. They worked together for many years out of their home picking meat from lobster bodies to sell to local businesses. He was also predeceased by two daughters, Patricia A. Willey, and Priscilla A Lamoureaux; and two sons, Philip Kilton Jr. and George Kilton.

Survivors include one daughter, Dawn Marie Bagley; two stepsons, John Gray and Melvin Young; several grandchildren; many great-grand-children; and one great-great-grand-son, Cameron Chad Kilton Jr.

In memory of Mr. Kilton, donations may be made to Boothbay Region Humane Society, P.O. Box 7 Edgecomb, ME 04556.

At the request of Mr. Kilton, there will be no funeral services.

Norma L. Kindell
2004-11-04

Norma L. (Collamore) Kindell, 57, of Bremen, died early on the morning of Wednesday, October 27 at Coves Edge in Damariscotta.

Born in Damariscotta, she was the daughter of Wilson and Bridget (McCormack) Collamore. She grew up in Bremen, attending the Bremen Grade School and later went on to graduate from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle.

On April 29, 1966, she married Douglas Jack Kindell. They traveled extensively, with his job, taking them to many places and meeting many friends.

Mrs. Kindells greatest pleasures in life were cooking, her annual Christmas party, her children, friends and family. Some of her fondest memories were of the many years her children attended the Bremen Grade School, where she was a longtime volunteer.

She was predeceased by her father, Wilson, December 5, 2002.

Survivors include her husband and mother, both of Bremen; three daughters, Bridget Green, her hus-band Kevin Green and, granddaughters, Jennifer and Amanda Green of Wiscasset, Kyna Kindell of Bremen, and Heather Kindell-Leeman, her husband Christopher Leeman, grandson Timothy Kindell-Leeman, granddaughter Nor-ma Kindell-Leeman of New Harbor; her brother, Rex Collamore of Wiscasset; and sister, Kathleen OBrian of Bremen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 29, at St. Patricks Church in Newcastle, with Rev. Ray Picard officiating. She was laid to rest at the Evergreen cemetery in Bremen.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Damariscotta.

Virginia V. Kite
2004-05-06

Virginia Vose Kite, 78, affectionately remembered by her family and friends, as "PoPo" died April 28.

Born April 8, 1926 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she attended Harding Junior High School before going to Westover School in Middlebury, Conn. She graduated from Scripps College in Claremont, Calif. with a liberal arts degree in 1947.

After World War II, she met James Bandel Kite and they were married June 27, 1947.

She was a long-time member of All Soul's Episcopal Church, Junior League, the Winter Ball and Beaux's Arts Ball committees. She was active in many other civic and philanthropic endeavors. Her greatest joy was spending the long summer months in Boothbay Harbor where she enjoyed tending her flowers, needlepointing and knitting.

Mrs. Kite was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Alden Vose and granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Alden Vose and the late General and Mrs. Roy Hoffman. She is predeceased by her husband and survived by her three children, daughter Carolyn Kite Eason and husband Carrol Don Eason, daughter Virginia Kite Miller and husband Benjamin F. Miller III, and son James Bandel Kite Jr. and wife Sherrie M. Kite; five grandchildren, Charles Havener Kite, Seth Bandel Kite, James Bandel Kite III, Heidi Hoffman Kite and Margaret Mathis Kite; sister Martha Vose Williams; and brother Charles Alden Vose Jr.

A memorial service was held Saturday, May 1 at All Soul's Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City, OK. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the All Soul's Anglican Foundation or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

Elsie L. Kline
2004-01-22

Elsie L. Kline, 83, of Wiscasset, died Thursday, January 15 at her home.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut September 5, 1920, she was the daughter of Hoyt Wheeler and Anna Pratt Clough.

On June 5, 1939, she married Leslie S. Kline.

Mrs. Kline was employed as a secretary and payroll clerk in New Haven.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband on September 25, 1992.

In July of 1995 she moved to Wiscasset.

Survivors include four daughters, Jeanette and her husband Philip Latella Jr. of Wiscasset; Gloria Sandra and her husband Paul Hinman of Harker's Island, N.C., Carolynn and her husband Peter Mallinson, also of Harker's Island, and Linda and her husband Ronald Weimer of Bartow, Fla.; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Clough of New Haven; and many nieces and nephews.

No visiting hours are planned. Interment will be in New Haven, Connecticut.

Ralph W. Knapp
2004-01-08

Ralph W. Knapp, 75, of East Boothbay, died December 30, 2003 at Togus Veterans Hospital.

Born August 19, 1928 in Bigelow Plantation, he was the son of Welland L. and Nellie Roper Knapp, and attended local schools there.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict.

For many years, he was a lobster fisherman and also operated a boat and float hauling business.

He was a member of Bayview Lodge #196, AF & AM in East Boothbay.

Mr. Knapp was predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan Welland Knapp, on Jan. 5, 1994.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Gloria Dodge Knapp of East Boothbay; two sons, Larry and wife Mary Knapp of Boothbay; and Martin and wife Bobbie Knapp of Boothbay; five grandchildren, Brian Pearce and wife, Tracy of Yarmouth, Aaron Pearce and Kathleen of East Boothbay, Caleb and Carrie Knapp of Boothbay, Caroline Knapp of East Boothbay; three great-grandchildren, Isaac Knapp of Boothbay, Benjamin Pearce and Emma Pearce, both of East Boothbay; one sister, Lois Winslow of Wiscasset; and several nieces and nephews.

A visiting hour was held Monday, January 5 at the Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road in Boothbay.

A Masonic memorial service was held at 11 a.m. and a funeral service followed immediately afterwards.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Fisherman's Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 304, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, in Mr. Knapp's memory.

Arrangements were entrusted to Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.

Ruth D. Knauff
2004-01-01

Ruth D. Knauff, 94, of Waterville and Ocean Point died in her home at the Woodlands Thursday, December 25.

Born Ruth Ellen Damon, December 13, 1909 in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of Isaac and Josephine (Bent) Damon. She was a graduate of Murdock High School in Winchendon, Mass., Chandler Secretarial School in Boston, Mass., and later worked as a secretary in Ashburnham, Mass. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star in her hometown of Winchendon, Mass., in the Women's Club and Childcraft Committee in Waterville, and in the Ocean Point Casino Association in her beloved summer community on the coast.

A lover of nature, a wonderful conversationalist, and an advocate for her family and her many friends, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Frederick R. Knauff, and is survived by her son, Roger D. Knauff and his partner Carole Gardner of Winthrop; her daughter, Marcia and husband Hugh Donald of Baltimore, Md.; her four grandchildren, Melissa Victory, Matthew Donald, Beth Miller and James Donald; her four great-grandchildren, Freyja, Katyja, Brynne Victory and Ashley Donald.

A memorial service will be held in the summer at Ocean Point. Arrangements are by Wheeler Funeral Home of Oakland.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Andrews Hospital, 3 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Elizabeth Kiehn
2005-06-02

Elizabeth Kiehn passed away on Sunday, May 29, at the Gregory Wing in St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor. On October 13, 1910, she was born in Detroit, Michigan She attended Buchanan High School in Buchanan, Michigan. She went on to attend the Ward-Belmont Prep School in Nashville, Tennessee, Miami University of Ohio, and Wayne State University in Detroit, where she received a MA in Art. She also studied art at the Detroit Museum of Art and at Cranbrook Academy.

Ms. Kiehn owned and operated the Downeast Gift Shop in Boothbay Harbor on Townsend Avenue and Boothbay House Hill. She also owned and operated the Pink Cottages on Southport for many years.

Survivors include two nieces, Mary Gibson of Inverness, Florida, and Frances Browne of Boothbay. Her family and friends will miss her wonderful sense of humor and her art and antique expertise. They will honor her by continuing her tradition of frequently playing her favorite card game, Shanghai, which she taught to so many over the years.

There will be no funeral. A memorial service will be private.

Ann M. Kimball

Ann M. (Skaryd) Kimball, 81, of Northampton, Mass., formerly of Boothbay, died Tuesday, February 28 in the Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Antoinette (Koryta) Skaryd. She attended Sacred Heart School in Cleveland.

In 1946 she married George Kimball in Ashland, Mass., where they raised their children.

Mrs. Kimball worked for the Ashland Public School System. She was active in the Boothbay Seniors and Golden Ages and enjoyed community events especially Thursday evening band concerts.

Survivors include her husband, George Kimball; one daughter, Martha Kimball-Field of Amherst, Mass.; two sons, Bruce Kimball of Weston, Mass., and Chip Kimball of Sandwich, N.H.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral and burial is at the convenience of the family.

A memorial service will be held on March 25 at 2 p.m. in the First Unitarian Society of Newton in West Newton, Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Renovation Fund, 30 Locust Street, Northampton, MA 01060.

Drozdal Funeral Home in Northampton, Mass. is in charge of arrangements.
