Altena A. Leask
1999-03-25

Altena A. Leask, 74, Dresden, died March 19 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

She was born in Dresden, daughter of Gilbert G. and Emily Kelley Lilly, and attended Dresden schools.

On Nov. 27, 1943 she married Glendon Omar Leask in Bath. He died Aug. 16, 1986.

Mrs. Leask worked at Bath Iron Works during World War II. She later worked at Richmond Worsted Mill and Clarostat. Following her employment at Clarostat, she was employed at Stinson Canning, Bath, where she worked for more than 20 years.

Mrs. Leask enjoyed doing handcrafts, hunting and smelt fishing. Last year, at age 73, she shot her first wild turkey.

Surviving are three sons, Warren Leask of Wiscasset, Paul Leask of Whitefield and Merle Leask of Dresden; three daughters, Emily Pinkham of Woolwich, and Mary Lou Sanders and Penny Leask, both of Dresden; 13 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

There will be no services. Arrangements are by David E. Desmond Funeral Home, Bath.

Earl C. Leavitt
1999-09-03

Earl Cushman Leavitt, 79, died Tuesday at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine, following a long illness.

Born in Gray, the son of Clarence Willard and Henrietta Pritham Leavitt, he lived in Gray all his life.

He married Dorothy Frances Witham in 1940, in Portland, ME.

He graduated from Pennell Institute in 1938.

He was a veteran of World War II, 1944-1946, and won the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on April 7, 1945, in Germany.

Mr. Leavitt worked at Thomas-Laughlin in Portland, Maine for 21 years, and at the Gray Post Office as a rural carrier in Gray for 21 years. He retired in 1982.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening.

He was predeceased by a sister, Alice Hathaway.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Leavitt, of Gray; five sons, Gordon and David, both of Gray, Neal of Windham, Donald Leavitt and Gary Smith both of New Gloucester; three daughters, Anna Teele, of Phillips, Amy Leavitt of Gray and Audrey Leavitt of New Gloucester; one brother, Sidney Leavitt, of Gray; and twenty-five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Gray Rescue, P.O. Box 258, Gray, Maine 04039.

Jean Louis LeBlanc
1999-06-24

SOUTH PARIS - Jean Louis LeBlanc, 76, of Berlin, NH, died Saturday June 19, 1999 at the Maine Veterans' Home.

He was born in Shelburne, NH, on May 10, 1923, the son of Lucien A. and Marie Belanger LeBlanc.

He attended school in Shelburne, Gorham, and High School in Montreal, Canada.

Mr. LeBlanc faithfully served our country in the US Army Air Force during World War II. After his discharge, he lived with his family in Rouses Point, NY. In 1952, they moved to South Paris where Mr. LeBlanc continued working for the Canadian National Railroad.

He married Florence Coupal on November 8, 1952. He worked for the railroad for 43 years and retired in 1984.

Mr. LeBlanc was a communicant of St. Catherine of Sienna Church, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5155, and he was involved in scouting.

In 1971, the Canadian National Railroad transferred Mr. LeBlanc to Berlin, NH. He then became a communicant at St. Anne Church in Berlin, a member of Knights of Columbus Council 506, and a member of the Lions Club. In 1993, he became a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Florence (Coupal) LeBlanc of Berlin, NH; four sons, Lawrence J. of Westbrook, ME, Jean L. of Berlin, NH, Allen J. of Berlin, NH and Christopher L. of Westbrook, ME; three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Barbara) Morrisette of Norway, Mrs. Paul (Catherine) Roy of Northwood, NH, and Mrs. Carter (Michele) LeBlanc-Piche of Williamsburg, VA; seven brothers, Roland, Frances, and Robert of Rouses Point, NY, Roger of Varennes, Quebec, Paul of Hawthorne, CA, Rodolphe of Portland, ME, and George of Gardena, CA; three sisters, Mrs. Rejane Traynor of Hawthorne, CA, Mrs. Margaret Scaringe of Albany, NY, and Mrs. Erwin ( Marcelle) Johnson of Prescott, AZ; 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Monday June 28 at 11 a.m. in the St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norway with Father Lawrence Conley as Celebrant. A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Maine Veterans' Home, 377 High St., South Paris, ME 04281 or The Berlin/Gorham Lions Club, P.O. Box 155, Berlin, NH 03570.

Mr. Ellsworth Ellie' Arnold Lebroke
1999-07-22

BRIDGTON - Ellsworth Ellie Arnold Lebroke, 70, of Dana Weeks Road in Porter died Saturday, July 17, from complications with diabetes and a heart condition at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton.

He was born on March 5, 1929, in Gorham, a son of Carlton E. and Janet Skillin Lebroke. He was educated in Norway schools, graduated from Norway High in 1947, from Bliss Business College of Lewiston in 1950, and from the University of Maine, Orono.

Mr. Lebroke taught at Gardner High School for one year, and for 34 years at Porter High School and Sacopee High School, both of Kezar Falls, retiring in 1985.

He was a member and secretary of the Kezar Falls-Cornish Kiwanis and a member of the National Grange, the Maine Education Association, the National Education Association and Norway Universalist Church.

He served as Selectman, Assessor, and Overseer of the Poor for the Town of Porter for over 14 years.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Gladys Myrtle Lombard Lebroke, of Porter; two daughters, Luella Murray of Limerick and Marie Downs of Marquette, MI; three brothers, Eugene Lebroke of Vancouver, WA and Arthur and Robert Lebroke of Norway; three grand children, Brandon Murray of Limerick and Ashley and Tyler Downs of Marquette, MI.

At Mr. Lebroke's request, there were no visiting hours and no funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Neal & York Funeral Home, Kezar Falls. Donations may be made to Sacopee Rescue, P.O. Box 367, Parsonsfield, ME 04047 or to SVHS Dollars for Scholars, RR 2, Box 5166, Hiram, ME 04041.

Edna Alice Lemar
1999-02-11

Edna Alice Lemar, 77, Whitefield, died Feb. 3 at her home.

She was born in Pittston on Feb. 24, 1921, the daughter of Chester and Grace Choate Ware, and was educated in Whitefield schools.

Mrs. Lemar loved gardening and enjoyed spending time with her cats and bird watching.

She was predeceased by her grandson, Timothy Perkins, and by two brothers, Edward Ware and Lawrence Ware.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, John Lemar of Whitefield; two daughters, Mary Ann Perkins of Dresden and Melody Trask of Gardiner; two sons, Terry Lemar of Whitefield and Robin Lemar of Winthrop; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Feb. 5 at Staples Funeral Home, Gardiner. Burial will be in Whitefield cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to Miles Home Health/Hospice, RR 2 Box 4500, Damariscotta 04543.

Mary Velma Letourneau
1999-04-29

Mary Velma Boggs Letourneau, 80, North Whitefield, died April 22 at Country Manor Nursing Home, Coopers Mills, where she had resided for the past several years.

Born in Whitefield on Feb. 9, 1919, she was the daughter of Hiram Clark and Mame Teresa Hatton Boggs, and was educated in local schools.

On July 4, 1959, she married Odilas Letourneau, a native of St. Come, Quebec, Canada, at St. Denis Catholic Church, North Whitefield, where she was a communicant. After nearly 25 years of marriage, her husband died on April 17, 1984.

Surviving are her sister, Mildred Cormier of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four nieces and their families, Beverly Lavigne of Augusta, Gloria MacGregor of Falmouth, and Rosalie Roberts and Jennifer Cormier, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Her two brothers, Lawrence Boggs and Norman Boggs, both died previously.

By request there are no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thurs., April 29, at St. Denis Catholic Church, Rt. 126, North Whitefield, with the Rev. John Audibert officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Gray & Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor.

Contributions may be made in Mrs. Letourneau's memory to Country Manor Nursing Home, Attn: Resident Activity Fund, Main St., Coopers Mills 04341.

Paul F. Levesque
1999-01-21

Paul F. Levesque, 26, of West Bath, formerly of Jefferson, died Wednesday, January 13 at Maine Medical Center after a long illness.

Born in Augusta on March 2, 1972, he was the son of George R. and Joan (Geary) Levesque.

Mr. Levesque attended Lincoln Academy in Newcastle and received his G.E.D. in 1993.

He worked for the Records Office/Student Information at the University of Maine in Augusta and most recently was employed at Maine Medical Lipid Center, assisting their computer operation. Prior to that, he did volunteer work at Turning Point and Nursing Services.

Survivors include one sister, Ann L. Milliken of Bath; one brother, Mark F. Levesque of Littleton, Mass.; one niece, Katelyn A. Levesque; and two nephews, William P. Levesque and Eric R. Levesque.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, January 20 at Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home in Bath, with Fr. Joseph McKenna of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bath officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in North Whitefield in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Harris H. Lewis
1998-05-28

Harris Hall Lewis, 83, of Winter Haven, Florida, formerly of Wiscasset, died Friday, May 15 in Winter Haven Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Wiscasset, he worked at Bath Iron Works, retiring in 1978 as a machinist. After he retired, he moved to Florida.

He was a former member of Lincoln Lodge No. 3 of Wiscasset.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Lewis of Winter Haven; two sons, Willard Lewis of Bristol, Conn., and Steven Lewis of Bath; two half-sisters, Muriel Long of Providence, R.I., and Elunice Natolillo of Chicago; five grandchildren; and two great-grand-children.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 at Sheepscot Cemetery. Arrangements were by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Barbara J. Lewis
1998-12-24

Barbara J. Lewis, 72, of Lessner Road, Damariscotta, died unexpectedly from injuries sustained in a automobile accident on Saturday, December 19.

Born in Buxton, she was the daughter of Melville H. and Nora G. Johnson Sr. She graduated from Windham High School and attended Farmington State College.

ON a local level, she and her friend, Marjorie Alley, established the first school, the Seaside School of Hope, founded to better the quality and care for the mentally challenged. She later focused her energies and knowledge at the state level as President of the Maine Association of Retarded Citizens, ``MARC."

In most recent years, Mrs. Lewis stayed at home where she was a devoted wife and loving mother to her husband and family.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Ira H. Lewis and her son, John of Damariscotta; three daughters, Roxanne Ward of Newcastle, Kay Reed of Westbrook and Joyce Manson of Boothbay Harbor; her mother, Nora Johnson of Coopers Mills; two brothers, Melville Johnson Jr. of Gorham and Richard Johnson of Fremont, N.H.; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Thee will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at her home on Monday, December 28 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Miles Home Health/ Hospice, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, Belfast.
