Glenn B. Littlefield
2003-10-16

A private memorial service is scheduled at a later date for Mr. Glenn Bonner Littlefield, 74, of Florence, S.C., who died Friday, October 10 at his residence.

Born September 24, 1929 in Bath, he was the son of the late Rev. Forest and Lillian Bonner Littlefield, formerly of Boothbay Harbor.

In June of 1973, Mr. Littlefield retired as Lt. Commander, after 22 years with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of the VFW Post #3181 and Retired Military Officers Association.

Survivors include one son, David (Terri) Littlefield; and grandchildren, David Littlefield Jr. and Brittany Littlefield, all of Florence, S.C.

Cain Funeral in Florence, S.C. is assisting the family.

Mildred F. Locke
2003-12-04

Mildred Frances Locke died Thursday, October 9, 13 days before her 90th birthday.

Since 1992 she had been a resident of The Fountains of Cedar Parke in Atco, New Jersey. Prior to living in Atco, N.J., she was a long-time resident of Haddonfield and Avalon, N.J. "Lockie" as she was affectionately known by her friends, was a summer resident of Boothbay Harbor for many years.

Her roots began in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Clifford and Anna (Shannon) Locke. In 1940 she graduated from Temple University with a bachelor of science degree in education. She retired in 1975, as guidance counselor for the William Penn High School for girls in Philadelphia.

In addition to her academic career, Mrs. Locke was an accomplished artist and photographer. She enjoyed a good chat in person or on the CB radio going by the name of "Panhandle." She enjoyed collecting teddy bears, as well as cooking gourmet meals.

Mrs. Locke was the life-long friend and companion of F. Lee Nelson, who died April 1994.

She leaves behind cousins and many friends.

A memorial service will be held in Boothbay Harbor at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter.

Gregory J. Luke
2003-04-24

Gregory Jerome Luke, 85, died at his home in Fort Pierce, Fla., April 17.

Born in East Boothbay, he was the son of Joseph and Lizzie Luke.

He attended the local schools of East Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor. He moved to Fort Pierce from Norfork, Va., and lived there for 51 years.

Mr. Luke served in the Navy, stationed at the Naval Amphibious Training Base in Fort Pierce during World War II.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Fort Pierce.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Roger, Francis, Paul and Owen; and two sisters, Helen and Sally.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Edith H. Luke of Fort Pierce, Fla.; three sons, Joseph Andrew Luke of Red Level, Ala., and David Eric and Timothy James Luke, both of Fort Pierce, Fla.; one daughter, Lynn Luke Vickers of Sanford, Fla.; an older sister, Mary Elizabeth Webster of Texas; and ten grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 22 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Whitney R. Lyon
2003-07-03

Whitney Reed Lyon, 68, of Nobleboro, died at his home Tuesday, June 24.

A son of George and Mary (Sturtevant) Lyon, he was born March 8, 1935 in Waukegan, Illinois.

Mr. Lyon and his family lived for many years in Lake Forrest, Ill., where he was graduated from Lake Forrest Academy. Later he earned his business degree from Bowdoin College and worked for many years as a stockbroker in the Boston region.

He continued his career in Rochester, N.Y., where he worked for Tucker-Anthony as a broker. The family came to Maine in 1988 and while in Rockland, Mr. Lyon owned and operated R&H Taxi Company.

Throughout his life, he loved spending summers at the family cottage on Squirrel Island. He had a strong love for sailing, boating and all things on the water. He was a member of the Damariscotta-Newcastle Lions Club and spent many hours volunteering at Miles Memorial Hospital.

He was predeceased by his wife, Pamela (Poulson) Lyon in 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Amy L. Lyon of Newton, Mass. and Dana L. Daigle of Durham, N.H.; two brothers, William S. Lyon of Lake Forrest, Ill., and John P. Lyon of Holliston, Mass.

Private services will be Saturday, July 12 on Squirrel Island.

Arrangements are under the care of the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta.

Thelma C. Lane
2004-09-02

Thelma C. Lane, 55, of Edgecomb, died Tuesday, August 24, at her sister-in-law's residence in Wiscasset.

Born in Boothbay Harbor on December 7, 1948, she was the daughter of Kenneth T. and Thelma (Warren) Chubbuck.

She attended schools in Wiscasset and graduated from Wiscasset High School. She was employed by the Wiscasset school department. Mrs. Lane enjoyed caring for the elderly, her family and friends. She will be missed by all who loved her.

She was predeceased by one brother, Joseph Chubbuck on November 20, 2001. Survivors include her mother, Thelma Chubbuck of Edgecomb; one son, Larry A. Matthews and his wife Kristin of Kennebunk; one daughter, Ashley Lane of Edgecomb; five brothers, Dan, Neil, and Carroll Chubbuck, all of Edgecomb, Brian Chubbuck of Wiscasset, and Gene Chubbuck of Whitefield; one sister, Pamela Sprague of Edgecomb; one grandson, Zachary Matthews; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, August 31, at the Open Bible Baptist Church in Wiscasset with Rev. Glen West officiating. A gathering followed at the church. Burial was in Union cemetery in Edgecomb.

Memorial contributions may be made to Miles Home Health and Hospice, c/o Development Office, 35 Miles Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.

Roland H. Leeman
2004-09-02

Roland H. Leeman, 70, of Woolwich died Tuesday, August 31 at his home after a long illness.

Born in Woolwich on March 19, 1934, he was the son of Hollis and Ruth (Hayward) Leeman. He attended Woolwich schools.

On February 26, 1954, he married his beloved wife Julia A. Bates. They made their home for 38 years in Woolwich. Julia died August 3, 1992.

He worked many jobs in his younger years including truck driving for the State Highway Dept., Bisson, and Hillcrest (loading chickens). He had his own rubbish route for years. He worked for Bath Iron Works as a welder and boiler operator where he retired after 27 years due to health problems.

Mr. Leeman was a volunteer fireman in Woolwich for a few years. He was a member of the Elks in Brunswick for 19 years.

He enjoyed gardening, building projects around the house, fishing trips with his brothers and friends in Bingham and going to fairs to see horse and steer pulling.

He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Julia A. Bates Leeman, sister Marilyn Wing, and brother Charles Joseph Leeman.

Survivors include his second wife of 10 years Linda E. Leeman of Woolwich; sons Kerry R. Leeman and his wife Crystal of Wiscasset, Carroll E. Leeman and companion Cathy McGuire of Augusta, and Kevin L. Leeman and his wife Donna of Topsham; daughter Cathy Pierce of Woolwich; brothers Hollis Leeman Jr. of Woolwich, William A. Leeman of Freeport, and Edward H. Leeman of Bath; sisters Evelyn Webber ofReynoldsburg,Ohio, Margaret Hodgdon of Wiscasset, Mary King of Woolwich, Arlene Wallace of Bath, and Esther Hauck of Woolwich; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step-children; 15 step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

At Mr. Leeman's request, there will be no funeral services.

In his memory, donations may be made to Chans Hospice, 50 Baribeau Dr., Brunswick or the Woolwich Fire Dept., 17 Nequasset Rd., Woolwich, ME 04579.

Arrangements are under the care of Pine State Cremation Service, 500 Route One, Yarmouth, ME 04096.

Joseph "Joe" Leonard
2004-07-15

Joseph "Joe" D. Leonard, 81, died Thursday, July 8, at his home in Boothbay after battling cancer for three years.

Born September 14, 1922 in Brunswick, he was the son of Mildred Louise Hunt and George William Leonard.

In 1940, he graduated from Brunswick High School. In 1942 he volunteered and was inducted into the U.S. Army as a member of the Quarter Master Corps. Among the citations he received were the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, Philippine Liberation Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was mustered out of the service on February 11, 1946 and attended the University of Maine, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government.

In 1955 he was manager of the Milk Bottling Plant at Granite Farm Dairy in Brunswick, Maine

After taking a completive exam, he was hired as a firefighter at Brunswick Naval Air Station.

In 1959 he married Virginia Elizabeth Rogers of Easton, Penn. and Newagen, who predeceased him in 1997.

Mr. Leonard retired on Federal pension in 1973. He later worked as a bulk mail carrier and also as a school bus driver.

He was a devoted member of Our Lady Queen of Peace church for 45 years. During this period, he was an active member of the choir and served a President of the Parish Council. He was an extraordinary minister and a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus for two terms. He was also a member of the Boothbay Fire Department for 23 years.

He enjoyed following the local and college sports teams, spending time at the family camp at Flagstaff Lake in Maine, growing a yearly vegetable garden, and helping his daughter take care of the horses at their Hobby Horse Farm. He also enjoyed word puzzles, playing his guitar and singing at family gatherings. He spent many happy moments with his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Rogers Leonard; and siblings, Mary Leonard, Richard Leonard, Martin Leonard, Donald Leonard.

Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Leonard, son, John Leonard and wife Donna; grandchildren, Emma and Jacob Leonard, all of Boothbay; siblings, Barbara Leonard of Brunswick, Frances and husband Eugene of Leesburg, Fla., Robert and wife Anne of Punta Gourda, Fla. and Yarmouth, Maine; one cousin, Jeannie LeBerge of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass was held Tuesday, July 13, at Our Lady Queen of Peace church with Rev. Raymond Picard as the officiant.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Our Lady Queen of Peace, 82 Atlantic Ave. Boothbay Harbor, ME. 04538 or to Maine Center for Cancer Research, 100 Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.

Arrangements were entrusted to Simmons Harrington & Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.

Ono H. Lescure
2004-04-22

Ono Healy Lescure, 100, a near life-long summer resident of Squirrel Island, died Friday, April 16 at a Cockneysville, Maryland retirement community where she had resided for several years.

On July 8, 1903, she was born in Washington, D.C.

She was predeceased by a daughter.

Survivors include a son, John M. Lescure Jr.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Burial was Tuesday, April 20 in Ruxton, Maryland where she had resided for many years.
