Elizabeth J. Lorusso
2004-01-29

Elizabeth "Libby" Jackson Lorusso, 55, of Wiscasset, died Thursday, January 22 at her residence, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle against cancer.

Born in Marlborough, Mass. on May 3, 1948, she was the daughter of Donald P. and Virginia R. (Sawyer) Jackson. She attended Waldoboro Schools and graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1966. She attended Northeastern University in Boston and moved back to Waldoboro in 1972.

Mrs. Lorusso owned and operated Sparky's restaurant in Wiscasset, the Kitchen Witch in Dresden and later Libby's Take Out in Wiscasset. She was employed as a photo journalist for the Lincoln County News for many years. She was currently employed as an Ed Tech for Alternative Education for the Wiscasset School Department. She was loved by all her students as a dedicated compassionate mentor.

Mrs. Lorusso was a member of Literacy Volunteers, Youth Promise Group, the National Press Association and the Wiscasset Snowmobile Club. She enjoyed photography, reading, shopping, and riding snowmobiles and four wheelers.

Survivors include her long-time companion, Merle S. Grover of Wiscasset; her parents, Donald P. and Virginia R. Jackson of Waldoboro; two sons, Andrew Sparks of Pennsylvania and Franklin Sparks of Yokosuka, Japan; two stepdaughters, Catherine A. Sherman and Paula S. Foye, both of Wiscasset; one brother, Douglas P. Jackson and his wife Barbara of Orange Park, Fla.; four sisters, Donna E. Jackson of Waldoboro and Tucson, Ariz., Virginia L. Hodgkins and her husband Bryan of Jefferson, Barbara A. Bermudez of Scarborough and Judith H. Jackson-Hatten and her husband Frank of Brownsbury, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Monday, January 26 at Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home in Wiscasset with Rev. Ann Lovejoy Johnson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Association, 1 Main St., Suite #300, Topsham, ME 04086, or to Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care & Hospice, 605 Rt. 1, Newcastle, ME 04553.

Patricia A. J. Luce
2004-09-23

Patricia Ann James Luce, 65, passed away Thursday, September 16, at her home in Warren.

Born August 9, 1939 in Dresden, she was a daughter of Jesse and Jean McIntyre James.

She grew up in Dresden, attended local schools and graduated from Bridge Academy in Dresden. After high school she moved to Indiana and worked at Columbia Records; living there for 17 years.She then moved back to Maine and married Wayne Luce.

Mrs. Luce was a homemaker who loved her home and yard.She enjoyed jewelry, antiques and drawing.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Luce of Warren; one son, Paul Black III of Largo, Fla.; stepchildren, Tammy and Karen Luce of Warren; three sisters, Diana McIntire, of Bath, Susan Curtis and her husband Linwood of Bowdoinham, and Jackie Cloutier and her husband Joseph of Greene; four brothers, John James and Paul James and his wife, Melissa, all of Dresden, Ronald James and his wife Cathy, and David James and his wife Rhonda, all of Gardiner; and six step-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 21 at the Second Congregational Church of Warren with Rev. Robin Honaker officiating. Burial followed in the Forrest Hill cemetery in Dresden.

Arrangements were under the care and direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro.

Clayton B. Larrabee
2004-12-30

Clayton B. Larrabee, 92, of Damariscotta, formerly of Lynnfield, Mass., died after a courageous battle with cancer Thursday, December 23 at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta with his wife, Lucy, by his side.

Born in Solon, he attended Maine schools and graduated from Hebron Academy. As a young man, Mr. Larrabee moved to Massachusetts and under the tutelage of Mr. Noble Jackson, worked at the Town Lyne House on the North Shore, learning every aspect of the restaurant business, ultimately becoming the owner in the 1940s. The Towne Lyne House Restaurant was famous for serving traditional New England dinners and was the setting for many weddings and family celebrations.

Actively involved in the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, Mr. Larrabee served on the board of directors and was a member of the advisory council from 1973-1979 as well as the legislative and education committees.

One of the original founders of the Route 1 Businessmen's Association, he also served as a director of the Peabody Lions Club. Before moving to Lynnfield, he also served as a member of the Budleigh Lodge, Masons of Beverly, Mass.

During his early retirement in Boothbay Harbor, Mr. and Mrs. Larrabee owned and restored the Ledges Inn in Wiscasset. Mr. Larrabee also enjoyed many of the Boothbay region's restaurants, sharing the famous TLH recipe for pecan rolls and popovers with the Rocktide Inn Restaurant. Mr. Larrabee subsequently moved to Damariscotta.

An avid fisherman and hunter, Mr. Larrabee enjoyed traveling all over the world and could often be found with one of his devoted hunting dogs by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Stewart Larrabee of Damariscotta and her children, (Mark) Scott Stewart and his wife, Martha, of Lynnfield, Mass., Laurie Stewart of New Mexico, Jack and his wife, Marivana, of Florida; three grandchildren, John Clayton Stewart, Ryan Stewart and Caitlin Stewart Swift; a brother, Donald Larrabee and his wife, Julie; and a nephew, Donald Larrabee of Windham. He was also the brother of the late Midge Larrabee of Beverly, Mass.

Mr. Larrabee will be cremated with a memorial service in Lynnfield, Mass. at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Larrabee requested donations be sent to the Ryan Stewart and Friends Fund at New England Pediatric Care, 78 Boston Road, Billerica, MA 01862. New England Pediatric Care is a pediatric nursing home devoted to the care of multiply handicapped children.

Arrangements are under the care of Cremation Services of Maine, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, Maine.

Paula T. Leighton
2005-04-14

Paula Theo Leighton, 57, of Boothbay Harbor, died Wednesday, April 6 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

Born June 26, 1947 in Boothbay Harbor, she was a daughter of Sherwood and Audrey Workman Leighton.

She grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated from Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1965. She attended business school for one year before entering the U.S. Army.

After her service in the Army she moved to California where she lived for 13 years. In 1980, she moved back to Boothbay Harbor. She worked as a chamber maid and in the laundry of local motels and in local restaurants.

She was a sponsor with World Vision and Children's International and for several years, she sponsored one child and two families.

Ms. Leighton enjoyed making ceramics with her mom and later on with her late aunt, Theo, in the 1960s. She loved to read the Bible and other inspirational books and watch TV.

She will be sadly missed by long-time friend, Judy Hodgdon and ladies from Harbor View Apartments in Boothbay Harbor.

Survived by her parents, Sherwood and Audrey Leighton of Boothbay; one sister, Sheila Lewis and husband Wendell of Boothbay; nieces, Gerry Lynn Kierstead and her husband Ed of Strafford, N.H. Kerina Morton and her husband David of Barters Island, Victoria Brown and her husband Chester of Friendship; several great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, April 12 at Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay, with Rev. Allen Wells-Goodwin and Rev. Herb Mullen co-officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Maine Division, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086; or to a charity of one's choice.

Lora Lemanski
2005-06-24

Lora "LaLa" Lemanski, of Gray, died June 18 at her home.

She was born April 25, 1952, the daughter of Lloyd A. Dill and Roberta A. Albert. Lora was born and raised in Lincoln, and attended and graduated from Mattanawcook Academy. While enrolled, Lora competed in and won the individual ski championship, an accomplishment which she would later share with her younger son, Luke.

Lora went on and attended Ricker College in Houlton, where she obtained a degree in education.

On August 16, 1975, Lora married her college sweetheart, Frank A. Lemanski.

During her life, Lora taught at Southern Aroostook High School, in Island Falls. In 1979, Lora and Frank moved to Gray; she was employed at Harbor Supply Company in Portland. In 1986, she went to work for L. L. Bean in Auburn, where she worked as a frontline supervisor in customer satisfaction until her death.

Throughout her 19 years at L. L. Bean, Lora managed to start and raise a family. She proudly supported her two sons in school and their wide range of sporting activities and events. As the years went by, Lora was considered by many to be the "Ultimate Soccer Mom"-she never missed a game. She was an active member of the Patriots Soccer Club in Gray.

Lora was an avid skier, and enjoyed golfing, shopping, traveling and gardening.

She was predeceased by her father, Lloyd A. Dill, and a brother, Howard Dill.

Surviving are her husband of 29 years, Frank; her two sons, Adam and Luke; her beloved Aunt Bobbie; her mother, Lea Mary Hall; two brothers, Lloyd J. and Barbara, and Tim Dill and Toni McKay; two sisters, Martha and Duane Lyon and Roberta and Carl Staples; several nieces and nephews; and Suddy and C.J.

Visitation was Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home, and a Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday at St. Gregory's Parish, Father Keegan Celebrant.

Memorial donations may be made in Lora's memory to Annual Campaign United Way, Greater Portland, P.O. Box 15200, Portland, ME 04112-5200.

Sara S. Leone
2005-07-21

Sara Sidney Leone, 15, of Edgecomb died tragically in an auto accident in Wiscasset on Wednesday evening, July 13. born in Maine April 8, 1990, the daughter of Bob and Carol Leone, she attended the Edgecomb Eddy School where she earned the highest academic achievement award, and at Wiscasset Middle School, where she received the Scholarship Leader Award and American Legion medal. A straight A student, as a freshman at Wiscasset High School she received highest honors, numerous academic achievement awards, and was a Student of the Month. She loved the game of soccer, having played four years with the Coastal Soccer Club in Brunswick, and this past fall joined the Wiscasset High School varsity team; she was considered one of the state's best female high school players, being named to the Class C All-State Team. She was also a member of the Odyssey Sport state champion U-15 girls' team and a three-year member of the Maine Olympic Development Program. In addition to soccer, she was also a gymnast, track hurdler, and manager of the girls' high school basketball team. She loved the outdoors. and in her spare time, enjoyed kayaking, skiing, hiking, scuba diving and camping, and had traveled with her family to Alaska, the American Southwest, Mexico and Hawaii. Survivors include her parents and an older sister, Lindsay, of Edgecomb; grandparents Barbara McFarland of Phoenix, Arizona and Frank and Ellen Leone of Needham, Mass; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family and friends gathered informally Monday afternoon at the Edgecomb Eddy School to celebrate Sara's life. Friends who wish may make donations to the Sara Leone Scholarship Fund, c/o Wiscasset High School, 272 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset, ME 04578.

Robert D. Lewis
2005-10-20

Robert D. Lewis, 64, of Southport, died Friday, October 14 at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born March 31, 1941 in Massachusetts, he was a son of Douglas and Florence Lewis.

Mr. Lewis worked for General Electric in Lynn, Mass.

On October 18, 1968, he married Gail Craven Lewis in Melrose, Mass.

He had summered in the Boothbay region for many years and in 1975 he moved to Southport.

He worked as a mechanic for several local businesses and also worked for the Town of Southport. For many years he was a part-time lobsterman and later fished full-time.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Gail M. Lewis of Southport; several brothers, cousins, nieces and nephews.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Fishermen’s Memorial Fund.

Arrangements were entrusted to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Boothbay.

David R. Lewis
2005-05-19

David R. Lewis, 68, died Thursday, May 12 at his home in Trevett.

Born April 22, 1937 in Boothbay Harbor he was a son of Tracy and Cleo Rowe Lewis.

He grew up and attended local schools, graduating from Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1955. During high school he work-ed for the town of Boothbay, trimmed trees with Conley's, and delivered Tilton's milk.

After high school he entered the U.S. Air Force. He also worked at Mac Andrews Gulf station, Fullers Shipyard, Goudy & Stevens, Mill Cove Lobster Pound, Gamage's Shipyard and retired as a pipe fitter at Bath Iron Works.

Mr. Lewis was a member of Bayview Masonic Lodge for many years, NRA, Local #6 and the Sportsman Alliance of Maine. He was an avid hunter of coons and deer. He enjoyed playing and listening to music, getting together with friends and family, and going up to camp.

Survivors include two daughters, Rose Hodgdon and her husband Jeff of Boothbay, and Patricia Mc-Glauflin and her husband Jon of Edgecomb; two sons, Mark Lewis and his wife Cindy of Boothbay, and Glenn Lewis and his wife Catherine of Manchester; companion of 31 years, Charlotte Webster of Trevett; one sister, Deanna Mac-Gillivary of Georgetown; grandchildren, Amanda Lewis Giles of Wiscasset, Angelica Hodgdon, Brandy Lewis, and Christopher Hodgdon, all of Boothbay, Michelle Lewis of Winthrop, Nich-olas Lewis of Manchester, Alyssa McGlauflin and Ryan Mc-Glauflin, both of Edgecomb; great-grandchildren, Jazmyne Lewis and Michael and Logan Giles, all of Wiscasset; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visiting hours were held Sunday May 15 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. A funeral service was held Monday, May 16 at the funeral home, Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Boothbay Region Ambulance Service, 18 Corey Lane, Boothbay, ME 04537.

Arrangements were entrusted to Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.
