Elliott Boyd McDougall
1999-06-24

Elliott Boyd McDougall, 82, Boothbay Harbor, died June 17 at St. Andrews Hospital, Boothbay Harbor, after a brief illness.

He was born in Boothbay Harbor, a son of Richard W. and Gabriella Boyd McDougall Sr., and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1933.

Mr. McDougall entered the Army in 1941 and served for five years during World War II, primarily in the South Pacific.

On Feb. 14, 1942, he married Elizabeth Hodgdon of Boothbay Harbor.

Upon his return from the Army, Mr. McDougall owned and operated McDougall's Cash Grocery in Boothbay Harbor for many years. In later years, he was employed at Fisherman's Wharf Inn.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Phythias.

Mr. McDougall enjoyed being surrounded by his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Sally Donahue and Sandra Page, both of Boothbay Harbor; two brothers, Richard W. McDougall Jr. of Boothbay and Chandler McDougall of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Marjorie L. Alley of Southport, and Laura Arsenault of Boothbay Harbor; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life was held June 22 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay. Burial was in Oceanview Cemetery, Boothbay.

Elliott B. McDougall

Born July 25, 1916 in Boothbay Harbor, he was the son of Richard W. McDougall Sr. and Gabriella Boyd McDougall. He graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School, class of 1933.

Mr. McDougall entered the United States Army in 1941 and served for five years during World War II, primarily in the South Pacific.

On February 14, 1942 he married Elizabeth Hodgdon also of Boothbay Harbor.

Mr. McDougall owned and operated McDougall's Cash Grocery in Boothbay Harbor for many years, and later was employed by Fisherman's Wharf Inn.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Pythias. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Linnekin of Tampa, Florida.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth McDougall of Boothbay Harbor; two daughters, Sally Donahue and Sandra Page both of Boothbay Harbor; two brothers, Richard W. McDougall Jr. of Boothbay and Chandler McDougall of Tampa, Florida; two sisters, Marjorie L. Alley of Southport and Laura Arsenault of Boothbay Harbor; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life was held on Tuesday, June 22 at the Simmons, Harrington and Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. Burial was at Oceanview cemetery in Boothbay.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Boothbay Region Veterans Project, c/o Sarah Sherman Brewer, P.O. Box 385, Southport, ME 04576.

Arlene McFarland

There will be a memorial service for Arlene McFarland on Sat., May 1, at 10 a.m. in Back Cove in New Harbor.

Barbara Ann McGovern
1999-04-15

PORTLAND - Barbara Ann McGovern, 73, of Portland died Wednesday, April 7, at a local nursing home after a brief illness.

She was born in Norway, a daughter of H. Knox and Winifred M. Bickford.

She graduated from Norway High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Languages and Music from Boston University in 1947.

That same year she married Donald H. McGovern of Boston, who prior to his death in 1964, served in the Portland Chamber of Commerce and later as Executive Secretary for the Maine Oil Heating Equipment Dealers Association.

A lifelong resident of Portland, Mrs. McGovern served the Episcopal Church for 20 years, initially as Executive Secretary to the Very Reverends Wilbur E. Hogg and Donald A. Webster at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, where she was a communicant.

Subsequently, she served as Executive Secretary to Bishops Frederic B. Wolf and Edward C. Chalfant of the Episcopal Diocese of Maine. She was particularly proud of her work as Executive Secretary to the Commission on Ministry, shepherding applicants for Holy Orders through final approval by the Commission and the Standing Committee.

She retired from the Diocese in 1989, and after which she held several part-time positions until her full retirement in 1994.

She was recognized for her musical accomplishments, particularly improvisational jazz piano and choral singing. She was also a great lover of animals, particularly cats.

She is survived by a brother, H. Knox Bickford, Jr of South Paris; a sister, Betty Cullinan of Norway; three sons, Gene M. McGovern of Westfield, NJ, Dr. Mark E. McGovern of Miami Beach, FL and Bruce A. McGovern of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Gillian and many other fond relatives and friends.

A funeral service took place on Friday, April 9, at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland. Burial took place on Saturday, April 10, at the Evergreen Cemetery. Arraignments were by Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home of Portland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wolf Fund, c/o the Loring House, 143 State Street, Portland, ME 04101 or the American Cancer Society ME Affiliate, 32 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME 04011.

Ella V. McGuire
1998-12-17

Ella V. McGuire, 71, of Pemaquid died Dec. 11 at her home after a long illness.

She was born Oct. 6, 1927 in New Harbor, the daughter of Samuel E. Morton and Dorothy C. Poland Morton. She attended school on Loud's Island, New Harbor and graduated from Lincoln Academy.

Ella loved the ocean and most of her life was spent working around the water in some capacity. For several years she and her husband Earl operated a seafood business from their home, fishing, processing and selling the seafood. After Earl became disabled, Ella earned her CNA Certification and for 12 years was a caregiver to the residents of Lincoln Home. After her retirement from there she continued to caregive in one form or another and most recently worked as a volunteer at Senior Spectrum. She played a significant role in the formation of Hodgdon Green, the new elderly care facility located on Elm Street in Damariscotta.

Ella was a member of the Bristol Footlighters and a member of Seaside Grange.

She was predeceased by her husband Earl in 1990 and her son Douglas in February of this year.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law Janice L., her granddaughter Andrea E. Hallowell, grandson-in-law Kurt A. Hallowell and two great-grandchildren, Jamien D. Hallowell and Chloe M. Hallowell of Pemaquid. Two sisters, Ethel Herald of Waldoboro, Emma Whipple of Gardiner and one brother Henry Morton of Damariscotta. She has several nieces and nephews.

At her request there will not be a funeral service, however those who wish to attend may join her family for her Burial on Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at Trask Cemetery, Rt. 213, Jefferson.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Responders in New Harbor. Arrangements are by Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta.

Anne C. McIlwain
1998-12-03

Anne C. McIlwain, 76, of East Boothbay, died at her home on Monday, November 30 following a brief illness.

Born in New York City, she was a daughter of Frederic and Gertrude Parker Clark. She attended Oldfields in Glencoe, Maryland and graduated from Dalton School in New York City.

Prior to her marriage to Charles H. McIlwain Jr. in 1946 she worked in New York City.

Mrs. McIlwain lived in Chatham, New Jersey for many years and worked as church secretary at the Stanley Congregational Church. From 1935 through the mid 1970s, she summered on Squirrel Island. In 1987 she retired to East Boothbay. She later summered at Decker's Cove on Southport until 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John P. (Frederica) Luke of East Boothbay; one son, Charles H. McIlwain III of East Boothbay; one brother, Frederick S. Clark III of Yarmouth; one sister, Mrs. Alan (Phebe) Miller of Milton, Mass; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of remembrance is being planned. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Boothbay Region Community Alumni Band, P.O. Box 603, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Dorothy H. McIntee
1998-10-08

Dorothy H. McIntee, 82, of Brunswick died Friday, October 2 at Mere Point Nursing Home after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Brunswick on August 3, 1916, she was the daughter of Bertrum and Margrite Harmon. For many years she worked at Verney Mills and Health-Tex. She enjoyed being with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, William McIntee and a son, David.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Manson of Boothbay Harbor and Lyndon Manson of Lewiston; three stepchildren, Harold Manson of Topsham, Barbara Gray of Lisbon Falls, and Roselie McKensie; eight grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Monday, October 5 at Riverside Cemetery, Pleasant Street in Brunswick. Arrangements were under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, Belfast.

Christopher L. McKeen
1999-02-11

PORTLAND - Christopher L. McKeen, 10, of South Paris, died Friday, Feb. 5. 1999 at Maine Medical Center as the result of injuries sustained in a house fire.

He was born in Norway, May 13, 1988, the son of Lynn McKeen and George H.Stevens Sr. He had attended school in North Waterford, the Fox School in South Paris and was currently in the fifth grade at Guy E. Rowe School.

He was a member of the Awana Club at South Paris Baptist Church where he had earned several badges and had almost completed the book. He had also received fourth place in the Awana Derby last year.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts and was working to be an Eagle Scout When he lived in North Waterford, he played baseball and won several awards.

He was currently participating in the wrestling program at school. He enjoyed drawing, playing with his cars and collecting old coins.

Survivors include his parents of South Paris, one brother, Shawn McKeen of Oxford, a half-sister, Amy Wheeler of Norway and his maternal grandmother, Ruth McKeen of Oxford.

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, February 9 at the South Paris Baptist Church.

Spring Interment will be in Sabattus.

In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial gifts in his memory to the Awana Club, South Paris Baptist Church, Park Street, South Paris, ME 04281.

Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris.

James B. McKinney
1999-04-01

HOBE SOUND, FL - James B. McKinney, 82, of Hobe Sound, FL died Sunday, March 14, in Hobe Sound.

A native of Pittsburgh, he lived in Hobe Sound for several months and was a winter resident for 21 years. He had both summered and lived year-round on Paris Hill for many years.

Mr. McKinney was a graduate of the Choate School and Princeton University.

He served in the Army during W.W.II as a Captain in Europe and later was recalled for duty in Korea.

Before retirement he owned and operated a hardware store in Connecticut. His many interests included boating and photography.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Alberta S. McKinney; two sons, Fletcher R. of Minnesota and James B. Jr of Illinois; a brother, George B., of White River Junction, VT; a sister, Louise Warner, of Advance, NC; and two stepsons, Stephen Riley of Norway and James Riley of Bath.

He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held in June in Fairfield, CT.
