James Morey, 81
2001-11-30

James Herman Morey, 81, died November 23 at his daughter's home in Oxford.

He was born in Gray, a son of Herman and Addie Decker Morey. He attended South Gray and Hancock schools, and graduated from Pennell Institute in 1938.

He worked at the Earle Hayes Store, then enlisted in the Maine National Guard during World War II. He served in the 103rd infantry as supply sergeant. He earned the good Conduct Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Combat ribbon, as well as the Victory Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and four stars, and a Bronze Star for meritorious service.

Mr. Morey married Clara Glowacki, of New Bedford, MA,in 1945; she died in March of this year.

He worked for Gray Oil Company and Westbrook Hardware. He retired in 1980 from the U.S. Postal Service after 23 years of service.

He traveled to Hawaii after retiring, and became active in several organizations. He was a president of the Senior Citizens Club, and was past commander of the Harold Nason Veterans of Foreign Wars post. He served two terms as commander and chaplain of the American Legion. He was a Cubmaster for 13 years, and a Scout leader for four years. He also served as a Scout committee member.

Mr. Morey was elected a Selectman of Gray in 1966, and became First Selectman in 1969.

He converted to Catholicism, and helped found St. Gregory's Parish, in Gray. He was the first president of the St. Gregory's Men's Club.

He is survived by a son, Daniel, of Gray; four daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Nancy) Roderick, of Gray, Mrs. Ralph (Patricia) Caron, of Sabattus, Mrs. Robert (Cynthia) Lavertu, of Oxford, and Mrs. Steve (Marcia) Noyes, of Cumberland; a brother, Kenneth, of Portland; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated last Monday at St. Gregory's, with Msgr. Robert Lavoie officiating. Burial was in Gray Village Cemetery. Arrangements were by Wilson Funeral Home.

Constance W. Moses
2001-12-13

Constance Wiltbank Moses, 84, died Sunday, December 9 at Cove's Edge nursing care facility in Damariscotta.

A daughter of Clarence and Edith (Fairley) Wiltbank, she was born July 24, 1917 in Philadelphia, (German-town) Pa.

Mrs. Moses received her education at the Friends Select School in Philadelphia and later attended the Philadelphia Art School.

A longtime resident of Canton, Conn., and Southport, she began spending summers in Southport as a young girl.

She was an active member of the West Hartford Art League and was also a founding member of the Gallery on the Green in Canton. She taught painting both in Conn. and Maine for many years and was past president of the Connecticut Society of Women Painters.

Survivors include her former husband of 50 years, Alfred S. Moses; one daughter, Dana Moses; and a niece, Elizabeth Wiltbank.

A memorial service to be announced by the Strong Funeral Home in Damariscotta will be held in the summer of 2002 at the Church of All Saints by-the-Sea in Southport.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cove's Edge, Box 4500, Damariscotta, ME 04543.

Norman J. Macdonald
2002-05-15

Norman J. Macdonald of York died in York Hospital April 21 after a long battle with cancer. He was 77.

Macdonald was a meteorologist on WBZ-TV from 1960 to 1977, when he began his radio career with Weather Services and then with AccuWeather. In 1992, he and his wife, Carol, moved to York, and he wrote weather-related articles for Foster's Sunday Citizen of Dover, N.H., and The York Weekly.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Collin and Brian; two daughters, Christina and Lauren; a stepson; two stepdaughters; nine grandchildren.

Parker E. Marean Jr.

Parker Endicott Marean Jr. of Wiscasset, died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at his home, a family residence since 1912.

Born in Boston in 1912, he was the son of Parker E. and Clara (Sortwell) Marean. In his youth the family summered in Wiscasset. After St. Paul Prep School he attended Harvard University and found his career with United Shoe Machinery. He worked in Boston, Haverhill, Mass. and Auburn, Maine. After his retirement from the company, he lived in Cambridge until 1977 when he made the Wiscasset residence his home. Predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (James) in 1979 and his son Parker E. Marean III in 1997, he is kept in loving memory by his family and many friends. Survivors include his sons, Karl J. Marean of Alna, Paul M. Marean of Reading, Mass.; one daughter, Elizabeth M. Mueller of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Sean, Daniel, and Laura Marean; Katherine, John, Peter and Jennifer Mueller. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27 at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset with Pastor Gary Hubley officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME, 04086.

Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

George W. Marr
2002-05-30

George W. Marr, 78, died Sunday, May 26 at his home in Boothbay Harbor.

Born on June 28, 1923 in Gray, he was the son of Thomas and Wilma Norton Marr. He and his family moved to Boothbay Harbor when he was a young boy. He attended local schools.

Mr. Marr enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 before the first draft in 1940. He was in the Coast Artillery, 240th Battery D. He had been seining herring summers with Leland Snowman, and had been cutting wood winters with his father, Thomas, on the island.

After World War II he returned to Southport where he worked for Elbridge Plummer on the town crew and later worked for Samples Shipyard as a ship fitter's helper. George then moved to Brunswick, where he worked for 17 years at both the Brunswick Naval Air Station and the Topsham Air Force Station.

He moved back to the region and ran the Getty Station for 10 years. He also worked at the Boothbay Region YMCA for many years.

He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Logan Lynn Marr.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Marr of Boothbay Harbor; a son, Alan Marr of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a stepson, Richard Teague of Edgecomb; a daughter, Katlynn Badger of Brownville; a stepdaughter, Cathy Orne of Edgecomb; three sisters, Mildred Lewis of Southport, Clara MacQuarrie of California and Shirley Milligan of Boothbay Harbor; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay. Arrangements are by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Lucy A. McInnis
2002-03-21

Lucy A. McInnis, 93, of Trevett, died at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro on March 12.

Born August 14, 1908 in Boothbay, she was the daughter of Charles and Blanche Barter Greenleaf.

She had been employed in fish processing and also as a cook for the Lighthouse Restaurant in Boothbay and Robinson's Wharf in Southport.

Mrs. McInnis enjoyed being a homemaker busying herself with knitting, crocheting, creating and maintaining beautiful gardens, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell McInnis; two daughters, Susan Spearin and Kathleen Hodgdon; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Colleen) Rego of Trevett; ten grandchildren, Eric Hodgdon, Stephanie Wiley, Jeffrey Hodgdon, Jonathan Hodgdon, and Michael Rego, all of Boothbay, Timothy Rego of Southport, Brian Rego of East Boothbay, Jan Floyd of Texas, Amy Simonton of Washington state, and Scott Spearin of Idaho; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grand-children; and several nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held in the spring at Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay.

Arrangements are under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, P.O. Box 576, Boothbay, ME 04537.

Joseph E. McKay
2002-05-09

Joseph (Mickey) Ernest McKay, 78, of Kittery, died April 29 at his home after a brave battle against cancer.

Born in Edgecomb on June 8, 1923, he was a son of Ernest and Pearl McKay. He attended local schools, after which he served his country in the United States Army Air Force and landed in Normandy, France on his birthday, which was two days after D-day.

Mr. McKay moved to Kittery in 1950 to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he was a shipfitter in Shop 11 for 30 years until his retirement in 1980.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. His primary focus in life was his family, his gardens and his dogs. He was constantly helping all his children with projects around their homes and running errands for them.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Nellie (Dunlap) McKay; seven children, Carol Sue Grover of Kittery, Judith Ashmore of Fredericksberg, Va., and Kittery, Joanne McKay of Kittery, Joseph McKay Jr. of Auburn, Robert McKay Jr. and Reginald McKay, both of Kittery, and Stephen McKay and his wife, Sue, of Cape Neddick; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Olive Wright of Pemaquid Point and Edith Lewis of Trevett; two brothers, Thomas McKay of Pemaquid Point and Alfred McKay of Edgecomb.

He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Blake, of Edgecomb.

Arthur A. Mitchell
2002-03-28

Arthur A. Mitchell, 70, died Monday, March 18, 2002 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Born in Burnham on December 18, 1931, he was the son of Alba Sr., and Gertrude (Winn) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield.

Mr. Mitchell took great pride in the fact that he had served in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1952 to 1955. On November 2, 1955 he married the former Bessie Call.

For several years he and his wife resided in Massachusetts where he was employed by Dover Instruments in Westborough. They both enjoyed camping and would vacation in the Boothbay region. After his retirement they both came back to Boothbay where they had been residing for the past four years.

Mr. Mitchell enjoyed fishing and doing models.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Bessie (Call) Mitchell of Boothbay; two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mitchell of Florida, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mitchell of Burnham; two sisters, Hester Bickford of Conn., and Charlotte Murtha and her husband James of Colorado; two brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Call of Burnham and George Call of Troy; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Tibbetts of Troy and Marieda Call of Vassalboro; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and especially their dog, Tekee.

A graveside service will be held later this spring at the Greenlawn Rest cemetery in Clinton.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street in Fairfield.

Marjory B. Muller
2002-02-14

Marjory B. Muller, 96, died on February 12 at St. Andrews Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor.

Born February 20, 1905 in Flourtown, Penn., she was the daughter of Williams O. and Elizabeth Yeakle Blair.

She lived in Chestnut Hill until she
married Frank Fenton Muller in 1932 and then lived in St. David's,
Penn. In 1957 she moved to Villanova, Penn. and in 1971 became a full-time resident in Boothbay Harbor.

Mrs. Muller has been a resident of
the Gregory Wing at St. Andrews since the death of her husband in December of 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Warden B. Muller of Hamilton Square, N.J. Robert B. Muller, formerly of Cherry Hill, N.J. and now a resident of Boothbay Harbor; five grandsons, Spencer B. Muller of Trenton, N.J.,
Darrell B. Muller of Ashland, Va., Dwayne and Judy K. Muller of Somerset, N.J., Robert Muller of King of Prussia, Penn., Scott and Risa Muller of Springfield, Penn.; one granddaughter, Carolyn Muller of Ardmore, Penn.; one great-grandson;
two great-granddaughters; and one foster granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 15, at 10 a.m. at
Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay with the Rev. Peter Baldwin Panagore officiating. A private burial will be held.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Mrs. Muller's memory to St. Andrews Hospital and Healthcare Gregory Wing Nurses Activity Fund, 145 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, or the Women's Fellowship of the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church, P.O. Box 468, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
