Weldon C. Miller
2003-12-04

Weldon C. Miller, 68, passed away Friday, November 28 at Maine Medical Center.

Born on August 15, 1935 in Attleboro, Massachusetts, he was a son of Perley and Marguerite Miller.

Mr. Miller grew up in North Attleboro, and was a graduate of the class of 1955 from North Attleboro High School. After graduating in 1955 he served in the United States Marine Corp for four years.

In 1963 he moved to Boothbay. As a truck driver for 15-20 years, he covered every state except Alaska and Hawaii. For 20 years he also worked for Reny's Construction.

Mr. Miller lived with his loving companion Norma Townsend and family for more than 15 years in Boothbay.

He enjoyed boating, hunting occasionally, his morning drives and stopping to visit with his friends.

He is predeceased by his sister, Fae Anderson.

Survivors include daughter Stacey Friant and husband George, and son Brett Miller and wife Stephanie, all of Boothbay Harbor; two sisters, Nancy Anderson, of Cape Cod, Mass., and Joan Kennedy, of Framingham, Mass;

three grandchildren, Nate and Kate Friant, and Aidan Miller, all of Boothbay Harbor; and former wife, Cleo Greenleaf also of Boothbay Harbor.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, December 2 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. Burial services followed at the Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay.

Donations may be made in Mr. Miller's memory to a charity of one's choice or an act of kindness in his name.

Arrangements were under the care and direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Eleanor S. Miller
2003-08-14

Eleanor Santee Miller, 90, a Bandera, Texas resident since 1990, died July 31 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas from complications following heart surgery.

Born February 25, 1913 in Bethlehem, Penn., to Anna and Claude Santee, she was one of seven children. In 1932 she married Reynolds C. Miller and moved to Boothbay Harbor five years later where they made their home for over 50 years and raised their daughter Helen and son David. Following her husband's death in 1988, she moved to Bandera in 1990 to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Reagan Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence, Donald and Thomas; sisters, Dorothy and Helen; husband Reynolds; and son David.

Survivors include one brother, Claude Santee of Albrightsville, Penn.; her daughter and son-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice. Written condolences can be sent to Helen Peterson, P.O. Louise K. Moore
2003-03-27

Louise Kincaid Moore, 81, of Boothbay Harbor died March 19 in Boothbay Harbor.

Born on November 11, 1921 in Lamoine, she was the daughter of Edwin and Eleanor Kincaid Moore.

She attended Ellsworth schools and the Central Maine Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1961.

Mrs. Moore worked at Thayer Hospital in Waterville, Blue Hill Hospital Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Endfield, Conn., Hartford Neuro Surgical Intensive Care in Hartford, Conn., Augusta Mental Health Hospital in Augusta, and at the Veteran Administration Hospital, Togus. She retired as a supervisor from CHANS Home Health Care in Brunswick.

She was a proud member of the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR), past regent of Pemaquid Chapter, NSDAR. She was also a member of Mayflower Society of Maine, National Society Magna Carta Dames and Barrons of Maine, U.S. Daughters of 1812 Past President, Deputy of the National Society of Ancient and Honorable Artillery, National Society of Daughters Founders and Patriots Association (DFPA), National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars, Auxiliary to the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, and Order of the Eastern Star, Genesta Chapter in Bath.

She was a Brownie Girl Scout leader in Auburn in the 1950s. She was a Daisy Girl Scout leader in Bath in the 1980s. She was extremely proud to be an unofficial Boy Scout. Her father was a Boy Scout master and she attended outings and learned about nature. She was called "Hawkeye," because she could see a mayflower while riding in a car.

Mrs. Moore enjoyed doing family genealogy and helped people research their family. She was a member of the Chadbourne and Harrington Family Association of Maine and the Sylvester cemetery Association. She was a member of the Clan Kincaid, served as State President of the Kincaid Clan at the Scottish Highland Games for many years.

She was an avid reader and bird watcher and she enjoyed gardening and camping. She loved the Moosehead Lake Region and enjoyed being by the water. She liked to travel, watch horror movies and enjoyed animals. She was owner of Cathmick Cattery, where she raised Persian kittens.

Her family was very important to her and she was always very supportive of them.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin Manson Moore and Eleanor Kincaid Moore; her infant son; her granddaughter, Mindy Ellen McGuiggan; her aunt, Marguerite;her good friend, Helen Stone; and a pet, Tessa.

Survivors include her daughters, Louise "Mickey" Brown of Boothbay and Cathy DeAngelis McDaniel of Woolwich; her granddaughters, Maria McGuiggan of Wiscasset and Heather McDaniel of Bath; her brother, Ralph Moore and his wife Geraldine Moore of North Ellsworth, a niece, Jerilynn Candage and her husband Howard of Gorham, a grandniece and grandnephew, Chelsea and Curran Candage of Gorham; a nephew, Edwin J. Moore and his wife Theresa of Hampden, a grandniece, Amber Moore of Trenton, a grandniece and grandnephew, Michael and Ashley Schmidt of the Hampden area, cousins, Mary Sadler of Maryland and her family, Russell Parker and family of Ellsworth, and lifelong friend and cousin, Thelma Jalbert and her family of Lisbon,

An Eastern Star service was held March 24 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay, followed by a funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boothbay Region Ambulance Service, 18 Corey Lane, Boothbay, Maine 04537, or to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the care of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Madelyn B. Mudge
2003-01-09

Madelyn B. Mudge, 98, died December 28, 2002 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

Born January 18, 1904 in Boothbay Harbor, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Blanche Parnell Bryer.

Mrs. Mudge owned the former Red Dragon Gift Shop, which she sold to the Gimbel family. She continued to work for the Gimbels for many years.

She was predeceased by her son, Robert Benjamin, in 1991.

Survivors include nine grandchildren, all of Wisconsin, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

At the family's request, a committal service will be held in the spring, a time and date to be announced.

Donations in Mrs. Mudge's memory can be made to the Gregory Wing Activity Fund, 145 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538.

Larry Jay Murinson, 51
2003-05-23

Larry Jay Murinson, 51, of Gray, died May 17, 2003, at Maine Medical Center.

Larry was born September 26, 1951, a son of Morris "Josh" and Bertha Murinson and attended Portland schools where he participated in athletics.

He graduated from M.C.I., where he received awards in English and mathematics. He attended the University of Maine at Orono and earned a degree in psychology. He also obtained his special education certification.

Larry began his teaching career in 1975, teaching in Kennebunk and Portland. He taught special education in Westbrook for 24 years.

He married Sharon Bresler in December 1984.

He was an active member of the Westbrook Education Association and served for two years on the contract negotiating team.

Larry was committed to liberal principles and opposed all forms of discrimination. Both Larry and Sharon volunteered at the Wayside Evening Soup Kitchen.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon Bresler; and his brother, Dr. Donald Murinson of North Carolina.

Lawrence K. Murphy
2003-03-20

Lawrence K. Murphy, 94, of Augusta and Boothbay, died Sunday March 16 at St. Joseph's Manor in Portland.

Born August 9, 1908 in Augusta, he was the son of Philip and Kathryn (Nolan) Murphy. Mr. Murphy worked for 34 years as a Registered Professional Engineer for the Maine State Highway Commission. He was the Construction Engineer and Training Coordinator when he retired in 1959. He specialized in asphalt paving. In 1954, he organized the Bituminous Paving Seminar for the MSHC and compiled a technical manual for the commission as well as organizing and equipping a bituminous laboratory for control and research.

Mr. Murphy was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers as well as Vice President of the Maine section of ASCE. As an active member of the American Association of State Highway Officials, he was a member of the National Advisory Committee on the AASHO Test Road. He was a consultant to the Bituminous Concrete Producers and participated in highway management seminars around the country. From 1957 to 1973, he was the New England Engineer and Consultant for the Asphalt Institute, College Park, Maryland.

At age 19, his first assignment with the MSHC was Design and Build Engineer for what is now Route 27 from Eustis to the Canadian border. From 1929 to 1930, he was concrete inspector in the construction of U.S. Route 1, now Route 88 in Falmouth, Cumberland and Yarmouth. From 1947 to 1948, he was the Resident Engineer in relocation and construction of what is now Route 1 in Falmouth, Cumberland and Yarmouth. During this time, he was also involved in the construction of I-95, Falmouth to Cumberland. He was also involved in the location of the Maine Turnpike/I-95 to Bangor.

Mr. Murphy and his wife of 66 years, Lucille Hanson Murphy, spent many years summering and boating in Boothbay Harbor and winters in Zephyrhills, Florida.

He was a scratch golfer and a past member of the Augusta Country Club and the Freeport Country Club.

He was predeceased by his wife, three brothers and one sister.

His endless energy and enthusiasm for life will be missed by his son, Richard Murphy, of Phippsburg, his daughter, Mrs. Norman (Janice) Gray of Falmouth, and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be held in the spring at Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Manor, 1133 Washington Ave, Portland, ME 04103.

Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home One Church Street, Augusta.

Earl McFarland
2004-01-29

Earl McFarland of South Bristol, died Sunday, January 25 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.

Born on August 29, 1924, he was the son of the late Vernon F. and Evelyn W. McFarland.

He attended local schools and was a graduate of Portland Business College. For ten years he was employed by the Portland Terminal Company, a subsidiary of the Boston & Maine and Maine Central Railroads.

In 1956 he want to work for Don S. Sewall Company in Boothbay Harbor as a bookkeeper, and was there for nearly 40 years. He also worked for Wotton's Lobster for many years.

Survivors include his nephew, Thomas J. Nickerson and his wife Karen of Boothbay; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be held in the Main cemetery in South Bristol. If desired, donations in his memory may be made to the South Bristol Community Center, P.O. Box 103, South Bristol, ME 04568. Arrangements are under the care of Strong Funeral Home and Memorial Center in Damariscotta.

Margaret Lois Merry
2004-01-01

Margaret Lois Merry, 68, of Slidell, La., died Monday, December 22 at Slidell Memorial Hospital of heart failure.

For 42 years, Mrs. Merry was the beloved wife of James Alan Merry Sr., formerly of Wiscasset.

A native of Carnes, Miss., she was a homemaker, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, James Alan Merry; children, Terry Glenn Beauman of Denver, Colo., James Alan Merry Jr. of Slidell, Pam Morgan of Gonzales, La., Robin Gittinger of Slidell, La., and Sandra Lemoine of Marksville, La.; three sisters, Viola Doyle, Beatrice Gardner and Louise Bittinger, all of Biloxi, Miss.; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by one sister, Tommy Nadeau; and one brother, Forest Spinks.

A private funeral graveside service was held on Wednesday, December 24 in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

Local arrangements were made by Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell, La.
