Pat was born November 24, 1936, in Mars Hill, daughter of Cecile (Cyr) Brown Austin and Harry Brown. Pat was the beloved mother of five children and a very special "Nannie" to five grandchildren.

She was the co-founder of All Points Travel in Windham, and served as its president for over 27 years.

Pat was passionate about her community and served it until her death. She was the co-founder of The Gray News, and was Editor from 1971 until 1977. She was also Chair of the Gray Town Council. To this end, she was the founder of Gray Girls Little League Softball organization.

She was a graduate of Pennell Institute, Class of 1955, and received an associate's degree in medical assisting in 1957 and a bachelor's degree in business in 1977, both from Westbrook College. She selflessly raised 5 children while working full-time and going to college part-time in order to secure a better life for them.

Pat loved her friends, family and especially her grandchildren, to whom she passed her love of music, nature and education. She was passionate about gardening, birdwatching and travel.

She is survived by daughters Alison Dorr, her husband Chris and their children, Cayley and Braden, Pam Mundy and her children, Todd and Keisha, Tricia Grona, her husband Paul and their son Jadon, and Beth Mundy; a son, Bil Mundy, his fiancee Denise and her daughter Dominike. A garden party in celebration of her life is being planned for Sunday, May 2, at 1 P.M. at her home, 288 Shaker Road, in Gray. All are welcome to attend. A memorial garden is being created to honor her life, and the family asks that perennials be donated to it in her memory.

Sarah J. Murray
2004-08-26

On August 21, 2004, Sally Murray died at her much loved and beautiful home in Boothbay Harbor.

Sally was born Sarah Jean Olsen, in Orange, New Jersey on March 17, 1933. She attended Linden Ave. School and later Glen Ridge High School, graduating in 1951. In high school she was a very good student. She occasionally wrote student columns in the Glen Ridge newspaper and was captain of the cheerleading squad. She later went on to study journalism at college in Framingham, Massachusetts.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Richard (Dick) Murray and her parents, Eugene and Margaret Olsen, and is survived by her children, R. James Dilley, Brian E. Dilley, Maggie E. Beekman, her grandchildren, Ramisi L. Dilley, Kristyn N. Dilley, Emma E. Dilley, Joshua A. Dilley, Miles W. Dilley and her god-daughter, Susan J. Haag.

Among many other things, Sally was considered to be quite determined, uncompromising, unconventional, and indomitable. She was extremely individualistic, very quick to laugh and relished life with a great passion. She was a great champion of women's and individual's rights. She did not believe in boundaries or limits. She was never cowed by convention, risk of failure or lack of precedent or role models. In life, love, business, and community, Sally was an inspiration and leader. All benefited greatly by her spirit and gracious hand.

Sally was well traveled and made great contributions to many communities. Her family has been coming home to the Boothbay Harbor region for more than four generations.

Among her great contributions to the multiple communities, she also accomplished the following:

In a time when it was almost unheard of for a young woman to establish and run her own business, Sally did do, and served as editor-in-chief/owner of the Suburban Press in Orchard Park, New York.

She served on the board of directors for the Calistoga, California Chamber of Commerce for three years and was president in 2002.

Sally was a lifelong active member of the Juniper Point Village Improvement Society (JPVIS) in Boothbay Harbor and served in many leadership roles during that time including president, vice president, secretary, and correspondent, in addition to serving on multiple committees. She made everything she touched more beautiful and was instrumental in building the new director's cottage, landscaping the new tennis courts and she designed the new kitchen for the community house. In her long-standing role as correspondent for the point's weekly column for the Boothbay Register, she lent her wit and originality to recapping local happenings.

In her most recent years, she successfully founded a real estate development and design company. She was known for her signature style in residential homes and creation of a new town landmark, The Garnett Creek Inn. The creation of the Garnett Creek Inn revitalized a neglected corner of the historic main street in Calistoga, California.

Sally's great passion in life also included the desire to grow, learn and stretch every individual's potential. In that light, the family has asked that donations be made, in the name of the "Sally Murray/Shelli Calloway Children's Memorial College Fund" First Federal Savings, P.O. Box 26, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
