Hazel Louise Nash
1999-07-16

Hazel Louise Nash has passed away at her residence.

Born in Bancroft, Maine, she was the daughter of Henry and Rachel Heal Lisheness. She graduated from the Massachusetts General Hospital Cadet Nurse Corps program during World War II, and worked at that hospital and the Eastern Maine Medical Center as a Registered Nurse.

She was predeceased by her husband, John D., who died January 1, 1999, one brother, Wayne, and a sister, Ellen Varney.

Surviving are a daughter, Cindy Tibbetts, of Turner; a son-in-law, Brian Tibbetts, of Turner; a granddaughter, Sherri Tibbetts, of Farmington; a grandson, John Tibbetts, of Turner; a brother, Erwin Lisheness, of Montclaire, CA; and two sisters, Dianne Morse, of Danforth, and Donna Malone, of Haynesville, ME.

Memorial donations may be made to Gray Rescue, P.O. Box 258, Gray, ME 04039. Arrangements were made by Wilson Funeral Home.

Laura E. Nay
1998-07-30

LEWISTON Laura E. Nay, 86, of Mechanic Falls died Thursday, July 23, 1998 at the Montello Manor.

She was born in Hartford on August 25, 1911, the daughter of Addison and Nettie Shaw Newton. She attended school in Hartford.

Mrs. Nay worked for Pemco box factory in Mechanic Falls for many years and also Paris Manufacturing where she retired in 1986.

She married Harald A. Nay on June 27, 1969. She loved to go camping with family. Mrs. Nay was also fond of birds, especially chickadees. She was a collector of ceramic birds.

She is survived by her husband, Harald of Mechanic Falls; two daughters and son-in-laws, Marlene A. and Raymond A. Roy of West Paris, and Barbara and Thomas `Dick' Barton of Bradington, Florida; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Wanita Yeaton of Mechanic Falls; a stepson, Clark Nay of Mechanic Falls; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister and three brothers.

Graveside memorial services were held July 27 in the Maple Grove cemetery in Mechanic Falls.

Arrangements were under the direction of Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls.

Edna M. Newcomb
1999-03-25

NORWAY - Edna M. Newcomb, 66 of Norway died Sunday March 21, 1999 at her residence in Norway.

She was born at West Paris on December 30, 1932 the daughter of Raymond E. and Alice Smith Haines. She attended West Paris schools.

She had worked as a waitress for a few years before becoming employed at BE Cole Shoe in Norway for many years.

She then worked with her husband as a self employed wood worker. They ran their own store all-in-one shop then Newcomb Wood Products. In later years she became a homemaker.

She enjoyed just spending time with her family, and her younger grandson Robbie.

She married Allan K. Newcomb on December 5,1953 and he died on May 8, 1991.

She is survived by three children, Russ Newcomb and his fiance, Shelly Rogers, Bonnie and her husband, Mitch Morrissette, and Paula and her husband, David Patry, all of Norway; grandsons, Robert Patry and Mitchell Morrissette Jr.; granddaughters, Michelle Banville, Paige and Danielle Cyr; ne great grandson; a brother, Douglas Haines of Poland and an aunt, Pauline Smith.

Graveside services will be held in the spring time, at a date and time to be announced later. There is no visitation.

Arrangements under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Dorothy F. Nichols
1999-06-10

Dorothy F. Nichols, 73, of Jefferson, died at home following a long illness on June 5.

She was born in Norwood, Mass., on Dec. 26, 1925 the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Gray.

She graduated from Norwood High School and the Henry O. Peabody School for girls and the Augusta School of Business. She worked at K.V.M.C.

She was predeceased by her husband John in 1987.

She is survived bu two sons, John, Jr. of Wiscasset, David of Windham and a daughter, Kathryn, of Jefferson; one sister of Norwood, Mass.; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter in Edgecomb.

Dorothy F. Nichols
1999-07-22

A memorial service for Dorothy F. Nichols will be held at the First Baptist Church on July 24 at 1 p.m. with graveside service to immediately follow at Fairview cemetery on Rt. 126 in Jefferson on the way to Washington.

The family requests attendees to dress for the weather.

Faye H. Nichols
1999-01-28

Faye Harris Nichols, 79, died Tuesday, January 26 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a short illness.

Born June 20, 1919 in Chelsea, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Welsh) Harris.

A graduate of Gardiner High School in 1938, she lived in Boothbay Harbor from 1938-1941, then resided in Gardiner, and with her husband John, owned and operated Nichols Meat Market until 1962.

She and her husband then decided to pursue a livelihood that would allow them to work with horses, a life-long passion. She officiated for more than 30 years, and as recently as last summer, was the Clerk of Course for the United States Trotting Association at most of the Harness Racing ``Fair" meets in the State of Maine. She has also officiated at Harness Racing events throughout the East, including New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Kentucky, always in the company of her husband who first drove and then officiated from the Starting Gate.

She was a life-long member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Marion Chapter No. 63, Gardiner.

Mrs. Nichols was predeceased by her husband John Marshall Nichols on August 27, 1990.

Survivors include one son, Terry M. Nichols of Melrose, Mass; one daughter, Christine L. Nichols of Smyrna, Ga.; brother, Raymond Harris of Chelsea; daughters-in-law, Judith Warren Nichols of Pittston, and Elisabeth Cousins of Nobleboro; three grandchildren, Stephen M. of Edgecomb, Jeffrey W. of Gardiner, and Gregory R. of Fairfax, Va.; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 30 at Amesbury-White Funeral Home, Gardiner.

Robert Nivison III
1999-04-22

Robert Nivison III, 61, most recently of Lynn, Mass., died Wednesday, February 24 at his home after a period of declining health.

Born in Nashua, New Hampshire on July 14, 1937, he was the son of the late Robert and Lee (Blackington) Nivison Jr., long-time summer residents of Capitol Island.

For most of his working life, Mr. Nivison worked in advertising for various manufacturing companies.

He was an Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam era.

Mr. Nivison graduated from the Taft School in Waterbury, Conn., and Brown University in Providence, R.I. He was an accomplished musician.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennie E. Nivison of Valley Village, Calif.; and two sisters, Susan N. Gwin of Newburyport, Mass., and Nancy N. Menzel of Plant City, Fla.

The Davis Funeral Home in Nashua is in charge of arrangements.

Vena L. Wilcox Noble
1999-07-15

Vena L. Wilcox Noble, formerly of Wiscasset, Woolwich and Eastport, died Sunday, July 4 in Ocala, Florida.

Mrs. Noble was a graduate of Shead Memorial High School in Eastport, where she was salutatorian of the class of 1934.

She and her husband, Allen A. Noble, were residents of Wiscasset, and Woolwich, until his death, whereupon she moved to Florida.

Mrs. Noble held an amateur radio license and station, under the call sign of WA1MKO, and acquired her Army military affiliate radio system station license in 1985.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Woolwich.

Pauline F.L. Norcross
1999-02-25

Pauline F. Laing Norcross, 82, Nobleboro, died Feb. 19 at Cove's Edge Nursing Home, Damariscotta, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Quincy, Mass., she attended schools there and lived in the South Shore region of Massachusetts for much of her life.

She was the former wife of James B. Laing.

In 1972, she and her husband, David Norcross, moved to Damariscotta, residing there until his death in 1983. She later moved to Nobleboro, staying with her daughter there, until her illness.

Mrs. Norcross leaves her daughters, Ruth MacDonald of Nobleboro, and Pauline Anderson of Chicago; two sons, George Laing and James A. Laing; seven grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren.

Family services will be held at the chapel of Strong Funeral Home, Damariscotta. She will be laid to rest, in Damariscotta, in the spring.

Edward M. Noyes
1999-02-04

Edward MacArthur Noyes, 79, of New Haven, Conn., and lifelong summer resident of Squirrel Island, died at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven on January 27, after a brief illness. He was the husband of 52 years of Winifred McLeer Noyes.

Born in Newton Center, Mass., March 13, 1919, he was the son of the late Edward Simpson Noyes and Phyllis Cunningham Noyes.

Mr. Noyes was a 1936 graduate of the Phillips Exeter Academy and a 1940 graduate of Yale University. He was employed by Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio for 35 years following his four years of military service during World War II. He served as director of Career Services at Yale before retirement in 1983.

Mr. Noyes was president and a member for 28 years of the Yale Club of Cincinnati and later served as president of the Yale Club of New Haven. He was a fellow of Trumbull College, a member of the Board of Directors of Mory's Association and a past Board member of Columbus House. For many years he served on the board of the Association of Yale Alumni, chairing many committees. In 1993 he was presented the Association of Yale Alumni Distinguished Service Award from the Yale Club of New Haven. In 1996 Mr. Noyes was presented the Yale Medal of Honor of his lifetime service to the university.

Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Edward MacArthur Noyes III M.D. of Edmunds, Washington and James McLeer Noyes of Marblehead, Mass.; and one daughter, Nancy Noyes Foss of Marblehead, Mass; a brother, Richard Cunningham Noyes of Farmington, Conn.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, February 15 at 4 p.m. at the Battell Chapel in New Haven, Conn.

Frederick C. Noyes II
1999-03-11

NORWAY Frederick C. "Bud" Noyes II, 82, of Bryant Pond died at Stephens Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 8, 1999.

Born in Bryant Pond on June 4, 1916, he was the son of the late Frederick Sr. and Delia (Berryment) Noyes.

He attended the local school and married the former Mary Jane Cash on June 3, 1939.

In May, 1943 he enlisted in the Army.

During World War II, he served in an amphibian unit and operated a seaman landing craft. He participated in the battles and campaigns at New Guinea, Bismark, Archipelago and Luzon. Mr. Noyes was recognized for his service by being awarded several medals and ribbons, including the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Bronze Service Star. On January 6, 1946 he was honorable discharged from the Army.

Upon returning home he worked at E. L. Tibbets Spool Company until it's closing due to a fire. Afterwards he worked at the Paris Manufacturing Company for a year before working at Stowell's Mill in Bryant Pond. He retired in 1981.

A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #68, he also held membership in the Jackson-Silver American Legion Post #68 of Locke Mills.

An avid hunter, he enjoyed gardening and logging. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Besides his wife of almost 60 years, he is survived by two sons, Frederick III and Sherbourne (Chuck) and his wife, Tracey, all of Bryant Pond; a daughter, Anna Ward, of West Paris; a sister, Vivian Field of Clinton; nine grandchildren, Vanessa, Angela and her husband, Stewart, Jamie, Preston, Chelsi, Joshua, Christine, Michelle, and Bobbi-Jo, four great-grandchildren, Cydney, Justin, Johnathan, and Adam, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred York.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 11 at 2 p.m. at the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock. Interment will be in the spring at the Lakeside Cemetery, Bryant Pond.
